Question is if that's a pedal with an attached tank or a tank with a pedal hanging from it? I don't know, maybe a lawyer or a phylosopher around here to set this thing...

I am getting old to the point of not caring about vintage or boutique gear anymore and stick to a 2019 Fender Vintera Tele into a 2021 Fender Blues Junior amp haha.
So true, I never gave a crap about clean tone in my teens and early 20’s, now mid 30’s have a Series 3 Reverb on all the time and I run my tubes on the edge of break up. I love hearing the guitar.
I'm getting back into guitar after many years. I was a straight-into-the-amp guy back in my punk/indie days, but I'm looking forward to exploring pedals now as a home player. Your videos are fantastic. You're very generous with your knowledge and in giving airtime to different makers. Thank you!
I am so fortunate to be an early fan of Mono. My friend was friends with them back in Japan and gave me their very first demo. I remember thinking "instrumental rock? LAME." But from the very first notes I was hooked and became a rabid fan. Favorite show was attending the concert in NYC with an orchestra they recorded for the DVD, one of my favorite all time concerts. Makes me really happy to see them get some love here!
My favorite reverb pedal currently is the dynamic hall on the helix software since it’s not a standalone pedal that goes to the neunaber wet reverb I love the wet sounds you can get from that I’ve broken at least 3 from rowdy gigs I’ve played i love it that much. My first reverb is a line 6 verbzilla I bought new in 2006 mainly using the cave setting. it was on my board till 2013 when the wet reverb took over it’s place after a drunk destroyed my verbzilla jumping off the stage and using my board as a ramp. Gotta love grunge rock.
I was called the Flerb in Highschool. I also didn’t have any friends... it was more of a title than a nick name. It was more like: here comes the flerb
MONO was one of the loudest bands I've ever heard. And one of the most serene and beautiful. Their lead guitarist wept during my favorite song of theirs. Saw them on tour once with Pelican, and another time with Boris.
Glad that a pedal maestro has given the thumbs up for the holy grail. I’ve had one for about 15 years and it’s finally given up the ghost. I’ve ordered the same one again. Most others seem to have too many options and would take a load of faffing / adjusting between sounds live. This one instantly sounds great and you can just flick between spring and hall depending on the song. No messing
As always, I watch mainly for the guitar stuff and Josh, but am always blown away by Nick's KILLER TASTY drumming (ghost notes, single hand rolls, and that drum tone...)
My first amp was a Marshall Valvestate. I used to kick it to make that sound where Josho-boy shook the springs here. I thought it was the speaker shaking that made that sound for many years.
Reverb might be the most important effect because It can really evoke emotion, & tune your tone, but you can also turn it into other effects with a bit of manipulation. Tremolo, Reverse, Rotary, etc...
You’re absolutely right about the plate setting on the Blue Sky! I’ve used it for years! And another hell yes to a ducking reverb. Ducking delay. Everything ducking. The only way to use time based effects with fuzz or high gain. Cheers!
i loved the infinte plate joke! My "favorite" reverb sound are the spring tanks in my amp, but I love my OBNE Dark Star, since it can do all the crazy long ambient reverb stuff, with modulation, and has a footswitch to hold the reverb infinitely, it's just really cool for big ambient pad reverb. I almost think of it as an overtone device sometimes more than a reverb
Very nice episode, thank you Josh (and the whole JHS team!) I'm deeply involved in reverb and I think is my favorite kind of effect for guitar. I like a lot the wall of sound reverb permits, or the atmospheric hints it can give. My favorite sound right now: - Reverse reverb (ok, it's a bit like cheating as it's a kind of delay, but the full wet shoegazy reverse reverb is incredible) - Plate, with its striking precision, is a go-to for any reverb sound. Like when I think of a reverb, it's plate reverb. - Reverb before the drive. The purist will eyeball for the wrong order, but I became a better person after putting the Cathedral (my main reverb unit) before my ODs. The tails are so sweetly enhanced by light overdrive or completely crushed by a high gain distortion. Every sound is better, my whole person is better.
Had the same exact thought and it is driving me crazy. Not only does the H9 have a ton of delays (and every other effect) in it, but the Blackhole algorithm actually even has a multi-tap delay within it. LOL
i love your video and your personal choice of best spring reverb: - at about 3:37 : shake it baby, that is a nice and natural way of introducing some modulation! - your story and showing off of the gold-plated H9 reminded me, perhaps strangely, of the King Crimson song "indiscipline" : "the more i look at it, the more i like it, i repeat myself when under stress". Ah, the eventide H9, overall my worst nightmare: only two switches and a dial on the front. Nothing showing us or even indicating of what it all can do. Big mistery. - i use the blue sky myself for all the reasons you mentioned. It is very versatile yet much less complicated than the big sky. And like all strymon pedals it adds something new and essential to the clean sound without omitting it. The effect can be as subtle or as extreme as you like. Currently using the cloudburst for individual tracks, especially vocals, and the blue sky for mastering. Guys, i really enjoyed this video very much. My respect for the drummer, without whom this video wouldn't have been the same!
Empress Reverb. I love it. I have been chasing delay for years, buy it was really reverb that I needed. I heard the 'dark spring" setting demoed, then immediately sold my Blue Sky for the Empress. No regrets. But the Blue Sky is cool.
Recently got an Electro Harmonix Oceans 12 and it's pretty darn killer. It's a feature rich stereo, dual reverb with a bunch of cool, fun, and inspiring sounds - the hall is great and I personally have a ton of fun with reverse reverb.
This is like an episode of "JHS Pedals". You're all very satirically humorous. Downplayed and undercut yet... infinite. btw that Line 6 pedal was/is just how you billed it. Awesome pedal !!
I like it when one of my pedals is featured on this show, especially when it’s one I got cheap. I’ve been into Line 6 tonecore for a while, it looks like the days of getting them cheap are numbered.
My first was also an RV-3, that I bought new in the late eighties or early nineties (whenever it was that it was released) and I still use it! I also have an Ocean’s 11, and it’s really all most folks would need. Awesome selection of types, and the spring and shimmer are standouts!
Flerb might be one of the most hated settings of all time, but that really goes to show you how well the other 2 settings are because that pedal is everywhere
I got the Neo specifically because it ditched flerb and added plate (my personal favorite type). Mine is always on, though I adjust the knob a little bit here and there.
Verbzilla is the first verb pedal I bought (with gift money, too). I keep it on basically one setting, where it's similar to the Barton Hall sound from Grateful Dead's 5/8/77 show. With an envelope filter into it, I can pretend to play a Jerry line or two. To me it's like my favorite local pizza joint. It's perfect.
I am a bassist in a drummerless art rock trio and right now, I am totally rolling with the Neunaber Immense Reverberator Mk. 2. It's my only effect and I love it.
Ever try the Stargazer by Hungry Robot? It’s my favorite reverb. It’s a dual reverb that does real nice sounds from subtle to ambient reverb. The two reverbs in the pedal are exactly the same circuit. So the common thing to do with this pedal is to set one as a subtle/always on reverb, and set the second reverb to a more extreme/lush ambient reverb. Now you have two very different sounding reverbs that you can switch between very easily. The ambient style reverb that it does is very nice because it’s not like a lot of the other ambient reverbs that you commonly hear. It doesn’t have those higher octave undertones like most others, which makes the Stargazer more musical and useful in my opinion.
Most of the people spending this kind of money on music gear already have large pedalboards anyways. You could easily mount the spring tank to the front or bottom.
Love. Love. Love Mono. Friend told me about them. Listened and ears were forever kissed. Getting vinyl of Nowhere Now Here did my birthday on Sunday. I love it.
1st reverb was the big box Holy Grail. When that power jack wigged out, I replaced it with the Neunaber Wet reverb. For me, THAT is the best modulated / infinite reverb sound. Neunaber has some killer stuff. I'm surprised I've never seen any of it mentioned in these videos.
JHS being a sound engineer/designer/musician and very small tubes available, please design a real tube, real spring , real small reverb tank/unit/pedal. Love the topic(s), love the show!
It's not just that wall, that whole room is like that, and he has more in drawers under the shelves and in his office (which also has the Sovtek amps), they used to also do the jams in a different room with all of Josh's guitars and amps on the wall, as well as his private collection at home. You watch this channel enough and you see just how much gear acquisition syndrome Josh has. 😂
Wasn't it just yesterday that Nick was ranking on a scale of Turquoise to Mustard Yellow...and then today he shows up in a turquoise hat and mustard yellow hoodie? Are there no rules?
Weird take: the EHX Cathedral makes the Flerb setting incredibly usable and honestly really stellar #1 reverb for me though is the mega simple Mr. Black Supermoon Chrome, the sway setting has this really gentle modulation that's woozy and dreamlike that i love
One of my favorite Reverb sounds is the TC Electronic Hall of Fame TonePrint “Big Room with a View.” It’s an incredible reverb for ambience and swells. I don’t even use any of the other available sounds on the pedal. Just that one.
Essentially, you're saying, "Why don't you just spend a lot more money, haul around heavier gear, and sacrifice flexibility for your pedalboard?" Am I understanding you correctly?
07:12 "Aargh, I gotta finger print on it! It's gonna hunt me..." RLMAO!!! I'm like that with most of my stuff, comics, you name it... U made my friday Josh, you really did.
Actual spring reverb pedal has to be Van Amps' "Sole Mate." It's a wee Fender tank, basically. I am also in love with my Caroline Guitar Company Meteore, which is, I dunno, magic or something.
Cool EBow . I use a slide with the Ebow. If you are ever in St. Paul Minnesota go to the Minnesota Historical Institute go to the east parking ramp stairwell. The reverb echo is mesmerizing. I installed all the signage there and the Mall of America which has nothing to do with reverb but that how I discovered that reverb.
Josh: "I like spring reverb because it's subtle"
Also Josh: "lets shake the springs like 50 times so everyone knows it's a real spring reverb"
Josh: "The rule is it has to be a pedal"
Also Josh: *pulls out spring reverb tank that attaches to a pedal* LOL
Danelectro had a pedal that I think had the tank inside the pedal (it also had a “kick” pad for that fun “sploing” sound of hitting the tank.
Omg I just posted this exact comment almost word for word!
And an Eventide unit with a thousand other effects. Love this show :)
Question is if that's a pedal with an attached tank or a tank with a pedal hanging from it? I don't know, maybe a lawyer or a phylosopher around here to set this thing...
Yea. A reverb tank is run essentially like a miniature amp fed through a spring. Is it a pedal to have a foot switch for my amp?
I think not JOSH!
A massive thanks to all of you at JHS for featuring our pedals 😍
We are so proud to be your selection for analog spring reverb with the Element 💪🤘

et merci pour palf :)

Yep!
As always though...
Always is!!!

“Rule number 1, it has to be a pedal”
Immediately pulls out a pedal that runs into a tank
Yeah and I'm pretty sure he broke rule no 2 with the h9
Josh could be a Senator like that.
The older you get the less you obsess with gain and obsess with reverb more.
I am getting old to the point of not caring about vintage or boutique gear anymore and stick to a 2019 Fender Vintera Tele into a 2021 Fender Blues Junior amp haha.
Ummm, that's a really profound statement.
And it didn't totally go over my head.... 😏
I used to love heavy metal distortion ut now im into od getting there i think
So true, I never gave a crap about clean tone in my teens and early 20’s, now mid 30’s have a Series 3 Reverb on all the time and I run my tubes on the edge of break up. I love hearing the guitar.
Not me. Reverb is easy. OD and distortion are still much harder to perfect. It is a lifelong search.
I feel like this episode taught us more about Josh's obsession than about reverb pedals.
Nah it was missing his whole, "i don't have this pedal, it's okay" speech and then Nick's jingle.
And I'm 💯 ok with that
Always has been
Nobody tell Josh that the h9 has tons of delay algorithms, he'd have to redo the episode
DUDE the drums were so perfect on the ducking reverb song. Go Nick
I was going to say the same thing. Great job Nick.
The snare is always so snappy!
It's such creative drumming. Very musical. How do you learn that stuff?

I love the MXR reverb. Lots of sounds in a standard enclosure.
I like the digitech Polara except for how difficult it is to read anything labeled… sounds great though for a reasonably priced unit 😊

70s Plate preset on the GFI Specular Tempus. Yes the stunt box is a reverb/delay, but 70s plate solely uses the reverb function.

In French, “météore” is approximately MAY-TAY-ahr. [meteɔʀ]. So like the English noun “meteor” only without the silly English sounds.
Also, those are acute accents (French) - umlauts are German.
@@Twannnng Did they say “umlaut”?? oh my god, come on. “On today’s episode…” Americans learn about other languages’ diacritics.
Hats off to the jams this week, gentlemen - very, very enjoyable.
I've never made it to an episode within a minute of upload hell yeah
Great demo of how to use an e-bow in there, Josh 👍
Actual spring reverb pedal has to be Van Amps' "Sole Mate." It's a wee Fender tank, basically. I am also in love with my Caroline Guitar Company Meteore, which is, I dunno, magic or something.
Cool EBow . I use a slide with the Ebow. If you are ever in St. Paul Minnesota go to the Minnesota Historical Institute go to the east parking ramp stairwell. The reverb echo is mesmerizing. I installed all the signage there and the Mall of America which has nothing to do with reverb but that how I discovered that reverb.
Don't touch it. Don't point even. It can't be played. Never. No. You've seen enough of that one.
Gotta love that reference
@@joseislanio8910 does it go to 11?
@@fredstevens799 why not just make the 10 louder?
@@joseislanio8910 you know, when you need that... EXTRA reverb... most of them just run out at 10.
@@fredstevens799 and where do you go....
11
My favorite is the T-Rex Roommate tube-verb, the 6-knob one with an LFO setting....so luscious.
"Small Town Sleuth" had some Deep Sea Diver vibes going on.
Yeeeeees! Shake that spring! So awesome. I would buy this just for that alone. Killer!!!
How about a shout out to nick’s drumming?.....he has great timing and feel........
This is the funniest episode of all time. Also some of my favorite jams. 5 out of 7.
When no one's around,do the gold H9 and Nick's microphone secretly hangout together?
i've heard that paul gilbert can make the flerb setting sound good.
If you can make the "take off" mode sound good you can make everything sound good :)
