The former Prime Minister has admitted his government “underestimated” the threat posed by the Covid-19 virus in the early days of the pandemic, as he apologised to the victims at the inquiry.

I'm tired of people claiming Sweden did everything right. The reality is, all countries messed up to some degree. The important thing is looking at what they did right and wrong. Sweden's decision not to lockdown was right, but they botched the handing in care homes, by putting patients on end of life care plans, rather than ventilators, which is why they had a much higher mortality rate than their neighbours.

They are never gong to discuss the fact that it was never a dangerous disease and on the governments own website it was downgraded from an HCID (High consequence infectious diease) around April 2020 and continued to be so...whilst the media claimed this was some new deadly virus when in fact it was a virus from the corona family (colds) and the average age of death was above the average age of life expectancy!

Even though it’s the easiest thing in the world and requires no effort and doesn’t constrict your breathing in anyway, and has some efficacy in stopping diseases getting passed on, your courage at not wearing it is inspiring. I went through security at Birmingham airport - About a thousand people squashed into the security area, only 2 belts open, massive queues, no ventilation, no masks, no hand gel, no nothing. It took over an hour to get through. Then we go to get on the plane - and we all have to wear masks...

I've been told I'm being wise after the event. I showed them an email from early May 2020 when I wrote to my MP saying lockdowns must stop as they will be too damaging.

Was a Royal ALbert Hall 2 months ago and a couple in their 60s came in wearing...........TWO masks - a blue one and a patterned one on top ! They got some funny looks.

I was asked a few times why I wasn't wearing a mask. I just told them that I didn't need to because I had my lucky pebble in my pocket.

I watched a documentary about the spanish flu decads ago and on this documentary it says that masks where one of the major factors in the deaths because of lung infections,so i never wore a mask during covid,am not a mug.

There is a lot this inquiry will not discuss - The matter of a legal requirement to obtain IINFORMED consent from those being vaccinated as for ALL medical interventions in the NHS / Private sector would be an interesting one in this arena.

If anything masks increased the spread because they provided a false sense of security. Someone I work with came into the office wearing a mask, when he felt sick. Had he known the truth, he might not have gone into work and spread it to others. Then there's the massive amount of littler and microplastics released into the environment. It was a disaster.
What I don't understand is why so many people cannot accept they've been lied to. Their pride must be getting in the way of seeing the truth. I suppose it's often easier to fool someone than convincing them they've been fooled.

I'll never forget during the lockup the woman in a Paisley pub that put a mask on as she got up from her table, walked two feet to the bar, ordered and got a drink went back to her table and took the mask off again... I later went outside and saw a guy standing at a bus-stop pulling his little mask down every few seconds to take a puff on his fag.

I have a very large family we partied all through lockdown no one I know including people over 60 have died
I live in Canada, and I remember conversations with my family in Scotland back in 2020 freaking out about how they were not taking precautions and no guidance from the Government. They were asking us what our guidelines were. It's crazy, Boris is an idiot!
Simple. 1) Get the science and recommendations from the Governments Chief Med Officer. 2) Prepare a complete and regional impact assessment. 3) Implement the action plan with phases according to geography and rate of spread relevant to NHS impact. Am I too simple with this or are my skills too basic?

I've worn a mask outside (e.g. supermarket, church, etc.) since covid began, and I've never had covid nor have I've been ill at all. (I have lung disease.)
Me too, it seems that the people who are so against them are also against other people exercising their right to wear them.
I thought the whole point of wearing masks was to reduce the chance of you giving it to someone else, I can see if everyone wears them it could halp slow the transmission rate. I do think they must have worked or hordes of shop workers would have gone down with Covid, which didn't happen. Also if you remember the first lockdown was more or less inevitible as the R rate was very high and we had no vaccine at that point, we didn't know the death rate at that time it could have been colossal. Ofcourse if Boris had acted sooner we would have had only one lockdown as the bounceback would not have been nearly so big. I think you have to remember it was not known how bad it could be, it being an escaped lab virus.

And masks weren't recommended during the first lockdown, when "essential" shops were open. Masks only became mandated in the late summer of 2020, based on a computer simulation, which made false assumptions at how the virus spread.
