Nicotine is a neuroprotectant and a stimulant used for development. Combustion is different. Cigs are different. Vapes contain sugars required to suspend as a solution.

I'm a hater of smoking but this would be a crazy law. Can you image in the future someone say 26 years old can smoke all day long as many cigarettes as they want but a friend sitting next to them who's 25 years old is completely banned from smoking and it would be totally illegal for them to ever be able to smoke. If it's banned, and they ask you at a hospital appointment if you smoke, people will lie and say no. They will be frightened that it will go on their record. So, it will be an inaccurate medical history.
Before the Hospital asks if you smoke, they will ask if you stand in solidarity with black lives matter.

That's right. Now if you drink more than 14 units a week the DVLA will revoke your license. It's called alcohol abuse/dependence so people might choose not to tell their GP when asked. The GP has to inform the DVLA to rightly ensure safety.

Think of the problems caused by alcohol? Think of the money we'd save if we banned it?
Obesity is the major cause of heart problems and diabetes, think of the money we'd save if we banned doughnuts, crisps and cheesecake?
Skin cancer? Ban sunbathing?

Smoking is a contributory factor is some cases, but some people get lung cancer who have never smoked a cigarette in their lives.
But alcohol is the only cause of alcoholism, should we ban it? It would save the NHS a lot of money, it would save a lot of police time, it would save a lot of lives. So why not ban it? Because the freedom to live our lives however we like, matters ...even if there is a cost, it's a price we have to pay. Freedom is never free.

It's not about policing it. It's just about making something illegal. There are many laws that make things illegal but are virtually impossible to Police. For example, taking drugs, child abuse, domestic abuse, animal abuse, underage drinking, underage smoking, watching broadcast live TV without a licence etc etc. All illegal but virtually impossible to Police if done in your own home. It doesn't mean that you still cannot introduce a law just because you cannnot Police it

nicolahallsworth - Maybe you don't know how EASY it is to make your own wine/sherry/beer/cider etc. It only takes time to make and a lot of ingredients can be picked outside. All fruits, most vegs and lots of flowers too.

Smoking ban almost unenforceable because of the hard cut-off scaling annual graduation of age and the nationality/visa issues of the individual, as well as all the alternatives available to smoke. No doubt the smoking/vape lobby will find a loophole in product definition.
The answer is to keep going with public smoking & vape restrictions which apply to all ages. People with addictions would just choose something else, equally damaging. Its an ID-card-creep issue as well. If you smoke in the park you'd have to carry ID or risk being arrested for smoking a day after your birthday. Idiotic nanny-state control.
I am not a smoker, but I would also say drinking is deadly too, killing thousands directly each year, and it also has social side effects too (domestic violence, crimes like theft, public disorder, public violence, road traffic deaths and injuries), so, on this logic why don't we go for prohibition too?!

Higher compared to what point in history? Smoking was extremely prevalent in history some 3+ decades ago.
Personally, I have always been a non-smoker. I guess it is because I have never been one who responds to societal pressure and to follow what others do. I am an individual capable of objective analysis. This analysis also extends to understanding that individuals are free people who will do what they want, and find creative ways to do it, especially when authoritarians place legal obstacles.

Ive not smoked for many years but what right has govt to interfere in people's (potentially) harmful pastimes? They're very selective too - certain sexual proclivities are encouraged whilst they have higher average negative health effects. I smoked from the age of 12 , after several attempts to pack them in i finally managed to do it aged 52.
I can't stand any one smoking near me now the smell is disgusting,
But i dont think they should be banned , its up to the individual if they want to smoke , just don't do it near me , most will realise that its not a good thing health wise and most smokers i know want to pack them in , theres lots of help out there to do that , you just need your mind set to do it.
Most would never go back to it once you do it.

Nicotine is not addictive, it's the chemicals that are sprayed on it that's makes it addictive. Nicotine is also known to cure brain tumours. Nicotine is also good for a stronger immune system. They need to ban alcohol, as it's the most destructive drug in the world, but legal!
