I still cant figure it out, and some of the custom filters i create dont even work half the time. Its a shit show and Live knows it now, so they are scrambling to try to fix it. I think the important thing is to customise your VSTs into the User Library; yeah it's a pain but once you have your 'categories' (compressors; delays, creative tools, whatever), it's easy enough to 'add' any new or existing installed plugs into those user-defined category folders. That being said, VSTs by developer is still a must!

Tags make sense, but only if you create them yourself, and you really use them. Dumping all sounds into one bucket creates confusion, especially for ppl who had their way of orientating in the browser from previous versions. Same for the plugin. What I don't like the most, is that many sounds, effects, and instruments from my collections are now gone and I have to rebuild them.

U shud give us the option to hav it like the Live 11 layout, with the exact same audio effects group folders and group names , nd the option for the new Live 12 layout with all the filters.
The only time I wud need all the filter searches is for searching though masses of samples, as it does seem proper useful for that. But I wudnt ever use the browser filters for stock plugins or 3rd party plugins.
If u can update Live 12 with that option to group the audio effects in folders like we was able to in Live 11, that wud be sick

Hey Team, I'm trying to save instrument/fx racks into custom folders in my library tab without it being put in a parent folder. IE. I made a FILTERS folder and all of my VST and Stock filters show but any filters I've made and saved as a rack are being put in a parent folder called AUDIO EFFECT RACK and I have to click the arrow to open that folder to show my racks. I need JUST the racks to be visible at all times. Having them in a parent folder defeats the purpose of this whole system making things quickly accessible. Another big issue is not being able to manually organize the folders in the Library. I want to organize everything in that tab from the "most frequently used" at the top and "less used" at the bottom. Also, why not allow more collections? I'd rather use these than this new tagging system. Collections works effeciently but limited to 7 folders and Library tagging has unlimited folder options but doesn't work efficiently... A few minor tweaks and it would be a bullseye! 😅

What am i doing wrong? This feature has made a real mess of my plugins, its actually made it multitudes more untidy. Also it doesnt do groups by developer properly. If I click on say the fabfilter tag there arent any fabfilter plugins in it. Also I had to make a tag for Eventide and others but they show plugins not made by eventide under that tag. This is really annoying.
Hopefully im just doing something stupid and theres an easy way to fix this.

    • @Riptide83
      @Riptide83 3 месяца назад

It has taken me ages to figure out how this works. I have google and searched for a solution or explanation about this issue with the way plugins are sorted. Why on earth was a video not made to show how this works?
Anyhow, for some reason some creator tags are already premade while others arent, and there are no correct plugins placed in those tags that are created automatically. Im not 100% sure, and im definitely not reinstalling Ableton to find out, but the way it looked to me is that Ableton makes some creator tags and makes an absolutely appalling effort at 1) creating the tags and then 2) filling them with the correct plugins.
So basically you need to create creator tags yourself and manually assign each plugin to a creator tag. Its actually so incredibly badly implemented that I feel like im wrong in some way. Its almost like something Microsoft would do.
But overall this is a really good update the quality of life features in this update are really substantial. The Roar effect actually seems pretty good too.
EDIT: I still don't see a reason to add this feature in. It's pretty much the same as the old way but just takes time and is a real pain to set up. I would honestly love to know if I'm missing something.

Hi there - thanks for the comment. The way that plug-ins are organized was indeed changed with Live 12. This means they won't be separated by developer by default anymore. I'd like to strongly advice people who oppose the filter & tag sections to at least give this a fair try. Because it can save you _so_ much time once you set up your tags and groups; you don't even have to bother with the defaults! Seriously... having VST2 and 3 devices I always had to keep collapsing the main selection, then the folder I wanted and only then could I access my devices. Now? I open the VST section, I click, say, u-he and *done* . All my synths neatly in place.
Fun fact: even though your folders are invisible Live can still detect these AND filter on them! So if you have a folder called U-HE like I have... press ctrl + f in Live, type u-he and watch the magic unfold. Then set up your tag(s) and you're done. It's so easy once you set it all up....

    Group tags = Main Folder
Tags = Sub Folders inside that main folder..
You can combine vst with vst3 in those folders OR whatever you want, anything! Such as m4l, racks, tracks, samples etc etc. If it shows up on your browser it can be tagged.
But but but wait it gets better... you can save those
" folders " i.e reverbs, delays, distortion, etc etc as docked folders on the left column of the browser where you have your audio effects, sounds, midi fx tabs etc etc.
