This riff is one of the most beautiful and inspirational pieces of music I've heard in recent months. It's simple but so sentimental it almost makes me cry.
It’s a demo recorded by a person, of course. Not sure, but the voice is probably somebody with a German accent, using an AI voice-changer to make them sound like an American.
At first I was like "how is this better than wavetable", then they showed the modulation and scale awareness possibilities. Damn. I love how the LFO section almost brings some modular synth-type modulation capabilities.
It's not. The modulation section is more developed but could simply be added to wavetable and a full on wavetable synthesizer is more diverse. None of the oscillators are as good as a wave table. It's actually worse than that though this whole synth is designed around obfuscating. It's literally like a bunch of marketing terms to make it seem like it's really cool but there's nothing new about this synthesis and all of the oscillators are just variations on a theme of stuff that we can do elsewhere.
What a beautiful melody to work with it. It's really not easy to choose one that doesn't get annoying after repetition for over 10 minutes. This worked out well!
Hi there, That is definitely an interesting idea. If you'd like to submit your idea officially, please check here: help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/articles/360011934759-How-to-submit-a-feature-request Thanks - Ableton
This is such an amazing synth. I like how they have taken some of the Elektron engine concepts. This is gonna become my favourite synth, so versatile, fun, and full of creative opportunity and serendipity.
Great job with the Meld! I really hope that Tension and Collision gets this kind of mod matrix in the future. So you can go deeper into the sound design of these two devices. plus it would to be cool too if Resonators and Corpus had Scale Mode as an option (especielly Resonators). somethings I really just want the Resonators to follow a midi track with a melody and having the Resonators on drums, for example.
Man, this is a good video for explaining Meld. There are vanishingly few 4 bar melodies I'd be OK with repeating for 13 minutes straights, but I'll be darned if this isn't one of them. This was great.
Nice tutorial, thank you! ❤👍💯 I especially like that it includes technique to test, disable portions such as OSC A or B as a way of showing both learning and testing portions of Meld given even those relatively "narrow" areas are actually vast. To boot, I like that enabling/disabling areas/sections is repeated as part of the tutorial which is both a great way to learn and show an exploratory iterative approach that does not overwhelm.
They implemented quite a few workflow enhancements. Normalize clips in the clipview, tagging, mixer in arrangement view, scales and tuning, update for push 2 to display the session view etc.
Now if only they’d make it stop giving you bizarre initial warp markers starting at the 2nd 128th note of a bar in 97.3 bpm, even when your audio clip clearly has the correct BPM in the file name and works just fine from 0:00. Also their file find and replace is still atrocious after 12 versions. 😓
Love this device. Thanks for a great walkthrough. Gonna take a few hours tonight At 3:18 - that's some serious Jan Hammer / Miami Vice vibe going on there ;)
And the next comment down is my case in point. It was effective. Why were you like wow? The dual oscillator setup is literally meant for the second oscillator to be able to more precisely detune against the first without having to use oscillator 2. Turning on the current scale doesn't do something magical it just quantizes that knob and it's no longer even a detune it's just a second oscillator that is offset by that number of scale degrees base 0. We've always been able to do that just make an instrument group stick pitch -> scale In front of the second chain and you get the same effect without sacrificing the actual function of the detune knob. Plus you can do that with any synthesizer. By the way the manuals written wrong and the basic shapes oscillator tone knob doesn't do pulse width modulation it's doing simple fm. An operator the oscillator effects are uniform across all the wave tables. This is decidedly more intuitive and actually versatile. they have done here is create the illusion of a bunch of cool **** by actually limiting which oscillator transformations you can do and giving a macro to it. You end up with a bunch of oscillators that have a particular modulation associated with them but not because that manipulation really makes any sense related to that oscillator it's just they chose to group it with that one to make it seem like there was a lot more.
Off-topic question, but how do you change the value of parameters without clicking+dragging? I know you can use the arrow keys but it doesn't look like they're doing that. In the video it looks more like the scroll wheel but AFAIK that doesn't work 🤔
It doesnt look like shes clicking and dragging on those parameters, it looks like shes hovering over them and scrolling or something?? anyone else got any ideas?
To me it seems to do 90% of what serum does. The interface is maybe a little more technical but I have a feeling the cpu usage will also be much lower.
Not heard any pads yet. If it can do lush pads then this is on par with the likes of serum. It's also available on Standalone, most of the functionality is in there.
@@daniel_tennerlower?? I'd say higher, serum is incredibly well optimised whereas the Ableton devices past 8 seem to be...well, not very well optimised
I'll never understand why some plugin overviews aren't showcasing the most important pieces of a plugin. You didn't let us hear how each of Roar's dist type sounds and now the same story goes for Meld's oscilator types. Really weird. Melody is great though.
Another great part of Ableton 12, let down by an awful video. Come on Ableton, you created this great synth, surely you can create a decent video to demo it
could barely make out what the woman had to tell me in her clinical unemotive voice, sounds of the synth where overpowering the information.. Wanted to learn but cannot watch this
What a melody!
This melody is incredible
I literally came here to express the same syhtn-taments. SO good
Great melody and adjusting all these parameters make it even more beautiful!

@The_Invisible_Man Am I a bot? I didn't know that
i know right? i wonder of that sound from a stock pack in ABLETON 12
Apart from the great explanation, that synth riff is so gorgeous 💟 I'd love to hear more music from whoever made it.
Entire thing is AI, amazing right 😂

Facts.
You’ve never done sound design before have you
PLEASE give us Meld's LFO section as a stand-alone, separate Modulation device! :)

That would be very cool
This is actually so amazing. Thank you for the great explanation as well. Hope to have the funds for this upgrade soon now
This is such an amazing synth. I like how they have taken some of the Elektron engine concepts. This is gonna become my favourite synth, so versatile, fun, and full of creative opportunity and serendipity.
Also, looks pretty intuitive to use, I think I probably could’ve worked out most of it by just diving in, although this video is super helpful too.
Great job with the Meld!

All of the classic Ableton synths could do with UI improvements.
What would be really amazing if all Ableton synths worked really well with Push, with minimal menu diving.
Awesome tutorial. The UI on meld is much easier to understand than other native synths

I actually like this synth but I really hope the next live update is more about workflow enhancement and not just another synth or effect.

The sounds and control of said sounds makes me salivate
Beautiful melody and great demo 🫶
Wonderful melody and sound
beautiful demo
This synth is incredible. Can confirm.
Did anyone notice she said 'Nice' when she turned the modulation envelope for the tone to 69 at 3:57?
lol eagle eye up in herre😂
Legend
Hahaha wow
nice
big thanks ABLETON!
amazing! love the scale based features!
Professionally done!
Beautiful unit. Convinced me to buy the suite. Thank you 🙌
I found this synth quite unintuitive but this video helps lots!
Great bunch of videos to learn from. Thank you Ableton
Awesome synth, I wish we could get the whole lfo section as a separate effect though :'D
Great video. Was looking for the glide setting.
It's under Settings...
I checked this out in the beta, but was not very inspired until seeing what it is capable of in this video
kinda obsessed with this sketch. who made it?
Nice melody btw. Didn't bore though it looped so many times.
what is this gorgeous melody
I don’t get the meld haters, it sounds great and has a plenty of features to make cool sounds.
Totally Digging This
Man, this is such a beautiful sounding synth. And this is coming from a Bitwig guy 😊
Love this device. Thanks for a great walkthrough. Gonna take a few hours tonight
At 3:18 - that's some serious Jan Hammer / Miami Vice vibe going on there ;)
Lol when it faded out and back it, I was literally thinking, ehh not something as cool then it fades out and into something cool again
This video is mesmerizing
is there an alternative to meld? i only have live 12 standard and can’t buy suite
Sceptical of how preset-y it seems but cautiously excited
Reminds me of the minifreak
I agree, longtime Ableton user who bought minifreak plugin “ah do this is Abe’s minifreak equivalent!”
my face when you turned on use current scale and started messing with the detune. fkn wow

I had no idea my iPad was in stereo until this video lol
Who is doing this voiceover?
Sounds A.I.
It’s a creepy AI voice

Seems AI but I don't think it is. If it's AI then it's very soothing, not creepy.

3:57 "nice" hahahahah
Could Deadmau5 put a beat under this?
You could make so many patches, does this compete with serum? Or what would anyone compare this to?

What the heck, let me get one
it's cool but CPU intense as we can see.. just for one synth... don't know..
Nice 😂
69, nice
sample this fucking melody
Why doesn't ableton add a polarity switch for the LFO? Not even in the lastest instruments.
In the matrix you can modulate by negative values which will give you the same result.
I'm asking for a toggle to switch between bipolar and unipolar LFO
There is a "unipolarizer" entry in Meld's LFO FX section which can turn the lfo unipolar in various ways
AI voice sounds creepy
dork
i don’t think it’s an AI voice but i definitely think it’s a voice actor reading a script without any idea of what she’s talking about
I also don't think it's AI, although the speech is very AI-like there are people who just talk like this.
I think they are real…elphnt and the other dude are regulars and they sound a bit more rigid too…then again maybe all clones 😂
it's def AI i can hear some slight glitches and weird dynamics@@abominablesound2769
