      Dude, that's awesome! And thank you, I'm excited to share more about my book later this year. I read Kafka on the Shore previously, and I'm so mixed on how I feel about Murakami but overall I like his writing. He's a little pretentious at times and can write some pretty uncomfortable stuff, but it's also just incredibly interesting and imaginative.

    Always the king of editing! :) My favorite books of 2021 were 5) The Bear and the Nightingale, 4) Strange the Dreamer, 3) A Terrible Fall of Angels, 2) Rhythm of War, and 1) Empire of the Vampire. If you like urban fantasy Dresden-type books you should check out A Terrible Fall of Angels (by Laurell K. Hamilton), if you like bloody grimdark vampire stuff you should check out Empire of the Vampire (by Jay Kristoff) or if you want more thought or details on either of these I do have a video posted where I talk about them more.

Before I knew I was a perfectionist, I use to get angry at myself for taking so long on a video or re-doing my lines while recording so much and thought nobody else was having the same issues as me 😂 but it's reassuring in a way to know that many people struggle with it, and identifying it is the first step to fixing those habits. I'm also going through Elric myself right now. Like you said, its such a fun series!
    The later books are even weirder and even more imaginitive with the ideas Moorcock puts on page. You can clearly see which popular fantasy tropes he essentially started.

    Have you read Howl’s Moving Castle? It sort of reminds me of how you described the Titus book with the sprawling castle. I loved EotW. I didn’t read as much fantasy or sci-fi this year as normal-I read The Scarlet Pimpernel and LOVED it though. One of the best classics in my opinion.

  • @annas1197

    I also love Abercrombie, If you haven’t yet, you should def experience the Audiobooks! Steven Pacey does an amazing job, maybe for the standalone books you could try the audiobooks. Even though they are standalones you get your regular characters in them too like Shivers in Best Served Cold. I struggled listening to the Heroes because I kept getting confused with all the different union and north men names and some were fighting for opposite sides but it was still a really good book.
    I have just started Red Country few days ago but I’m actually reading the book because I accidentally ordered a US copy and only wanted the UK versions on my shelf. Once I’m done the book if anyone is in BC, I could potentially mail this copy to them.
    Not sure if you’ve read the poppy war books but I read the first 2 last year and really liked them. I’ll get to book 3 after Red Country then going to move on to John Gwynne I think. I have both Malice and The Shadow of the Gods on my shelf, anyone recommend which one I should read first??

    4. LPQ (Abraham)

    Wow your first two honorable mentions are two of my favorites of all time. My top read of 2021 was actually Murakami’s Wind-up Bird Chronicle which I think is even better than the fantastic Hard Boiled Wonderland. And I read Book of the New Sun twice (almost, still have to hit book 4 again) in 2021, such a unique and cool series that reveals more and more with each read. I am also totally with you on perfectionism … I am an editor as well … in fact I’ve commented here before on how much I like your editing … a book that really helped me is “How to Be an Imperfectionist” which sounds pretty close to Atomic Habits, which I’ve heard of and I’ll have to check that out. I started both Fifth Season and Titus Groan in 2021 and DNF’ed both … I loved the writing of Goremghast but found it a little self indulgent … however the way you describe it makes me think I pulled the trigger too soon as it sounds like there’s a strong House of Leaves element that I didn’t get to yet so I’m placing that in my Try Again list and Fifth Season I already intended to try again … I think I was put off by the 2nd person and possibly the narration so I am going to read it instead of listen next try … I often like things I’ve DNF’ed before on second try (Malazan being an example). Anyway, great vid!

      Wind-up Bird Chronicle is the next Murakami book I plan on reading, so that's awesome to hear!! Book of the New sun is amazing so far, can't wait to read more. Oh I think I heard of the book “How to Be an Imperfectionist”, I'll definitely add it to my list because I'm sure it will help me.
      Gormenghast is sort of self-indulgent at times, and sometimes I feel like the author spends too much time telling us interesting descriptions of the people or the castle when the plot could still use some work. I still think it is a masterpiece in it's own way, though it is flawed when it comes to pacing and over-description. But definitely worth a second look!

      I read the inheritance trilogy last year I really liked it, how would you compare Fifth Season. I think I opened it up or read a sample and it was written in first person ?? I can’t remember really but it seemed different. Was that easy to get used to?

    • @ReadandFindOut
      @ReadandFindOut 2 года назад

      @@annas1197 I haven't read the Inheritance trilogy just yet! The only other Jemisin I've read is How Ling 'Til Black Future Month? which was also really good. Quite a bit of the Broken Earth trilogy is written in second-person point of view, which is really jarring for a lot of people! It took me a bit to get used to but I ultimately ended up loving how it was written.

    Why are all these book channels adding in manga, One Piece, in particular?!? What is going on with that? Not really sure I would call it a novel?

    • @CapturedInWords
      @CapturedInWords  2 года назад +1

      I think because the stigma of manga 'being for kids' has been dropping as people realize that there's many amazing stories to be found in manga. One Piece in particular is the most best-selling manga of all time and has plenty to offer. Manga is pretty much the same as a graphic novel, so it is a type of novel just not the conventional one
