I picked up a mint set of MP33 ( 1 to 9 iron with Rifle 6.5 shafts) in the charity shop next to Gullane GC Scotland ,around 2018. Playability wise, (2hc at the time) the good shots were great , the poor shots were horrible , i traded them with a friend who then sold them to an avid collector in Japan.
Still have a set 2-pw - had the lofts adjusted to be closer to newer lofts/lies and still play them. My opinion, the mp33s compete with anything new on the market.
@@HowGoodGolf I picked up a mp 32 2 iron at a Second hand shop for 2$. At the range, with my last ball, I pulled out the two iron. Immediately, I felt something different about the weight, you knew where the club head was. I am not a religious person, so when the shaft of light hit me , I heard Sir Alec Guineas’ voice, “You shan’t shank it”. I turned slowly, turned through and absolutely smoked the ball. I was so shocked I dropped the club and said “Holy cow” (actually what comes out of said cows end, family channel here). True story about my mp32!
I just retired my MP33's a month ago after buying them new in 2002. I played 2 iron through wedge and when my ball striking was on, it was like hitting marshmallows all day long. The 2 iron was an absolute weapon, especially on tight par 4's. 255m (total) straight down the pipe was the longest I hit it. Absolutely beautiful blades to play and look at.
Thanks for the video. I played MP-33s around 2003-2005. I am sure I still have them in my garage (I never sell anything). Great clubs. Beautiful. I stopped using them when I moved to Arizona, which has tighter and different turf compared to Pennsylvania. I needed more bounce and forgiving sole than the MP-33s have. I could hit the MP-33 3-iron in the set pretty well. But I never had a 2-iron. Hmmm. . . maybe I will drag them out this week and hit some balls on the range.
coming back after a golf hiatus. Just got fitted for my MP243's. Driver fitting tomorrow with a side of 2 iron! I loved my old Precept 2 iron so I'm looking forward to hitting fli-hi.
it always surprises me when people are in shock that clubs from the golden years of 2000-2010 perform just as good as clubs now a days, if ur half decent. I still game the MP30s and prefer the 3-iron off the tee as my long fairway finder more than any 3 wood you put in my hands. MP30s, Victory Reds, Cleveland CG1's, Adams CB1's, and Hogan . All better feeling irons than modern day imo.
I think I need to swap out my 3 wood for a 2 iron bc I like a lower ball flight and I don't hit my 3 wood consistently. I've never tried any Mizuno clubs before but this may be the 1st bc it looks awesome!
Never underestimate Mizuno blades. I have the Mp 11 and the MP 32-Fantastic clubs. The mp 11 is a very similar club to the mp33 in looks. The Mp32 are just butter all day
The mp 33 2 iron was my favorite club for about 6 years. I used it with 3 different sets of clubs and I hit it so many times that It has no groves and almost wore the number completely off the bottom. Went through 3 shafts.
In the late 60's my irons were 2-si and driver 3 & 5 wood. The 2 iron was 18 degrees & I could only hit it off a decent lie. Golfers, today, are being cheated out of longer irons, because of ridiculous lofts & really couldn't use the clubs we used, with a sweet spot of the size of a little fingernail!
I bought a used set of MP 32's a few yrs back really luv them, then I found a set of MP 33's the other day from a non golfer for cheap. MP 33's look almost perfect!
Love to see this! I'm about a 15 handicap. I have a full set of Ping G410 (super game-improvement power bats), but I bought a full set (3-PW) of the Mizuno MP33s just because they are soooo gorgeous! Paid $120s for them. For some perspective, I can hit my Ping 7 iron over 175 yds...the MP-33 7 iron (with a good strike, of course) will go about 168-170 yds., but I usually hit it around 155. Loved the video!👌
Do the current Fli HI against the 2008 Fli Hi (the one with the cut muscle) I just got the old one wtih the s300 shafts.... hits rockets. 2 iron was so good I went out and got the 4 iron. wish it came in a 6 for my MP60 combo set. I bet you its less than 5 yards apart.
I still hit MP33's to this day. Bought them when I was 21, 45 now.. so yes not as easy to hit when I was younger.. may retire them soon/next year. Man I will miss them. :)
Perhaps you may review and compare some current irons#4 with loft 18-18.5, such as Wilson D9, Wilson Dynapower, TaylorMade Qi, Cobra Darkspeed, Callaway BigBertha 23, Callaway Paradym X, Callaway Mavrik.
Hahaha great test mate, seriously impressed with the mp33's. I tried hitting blades once a few years back...sometimes when it's quite and I'm sitting still...I still feel the vibrations 😂😂😂.
I play the Mizuno MP 20s. They are untouchable. Best irons by miles. I can play every kind of shot with them. I’m 57 now and will probably play with these for the rest of my golfing life. The 3i is a beast
So the new ones are better.. job done. LOL. I have mp33s I take out at times, but as a 12hcp they usually go back into the attic. They have a s400 shaft instead of the s300 I normally have, so I'm hoping to test out if it reduces casting (hit it fat a lot this morning). Guess what, they just went back into the bag. Can't resist that feel. Offset doesn't bother me but when you point it out here, it looks scary.
Crazy stuff! I think I will stick with my fairway woods however lol Speaking of which, Have you ever hit or reviewed the Cobra King Tec Hybrid? I just picked one up and the amount of adjustability and buttery feel has blown me away.
Hi … I play hybrids but have tried the Fli-hi and struggled with it. Felt that to get it to work, I had to hammer it. Do you think lower swing speeds can make these clubs work given the low loft ? (I swing the driver c.95 to 97mph or 100mph if I go for it) Thanks.
Such a nice modern fli hi iron would have been a nice giveaway.... I'm having a 2 iron from 1990 in my bag. That's a pured butter knife... But for me 220 distance is the maximum to achieve with them. Because the shaft length is only 39.... In these past times the clubs weren't build a half or full inch shorter! And the length of a shade gives distance - power multiplicated with the way to go. Simple physics. The reason for shorter clubs build in Japan is simple - the people are grown up in the last decades.
You are correct and they are but I do like my MP 29,14 and 221 irons. I just got a like new Yoro set of MP 32s because they are getting hard to find in great condition. For a few hundred dollars you can find some nice sets every now and then but it's getting harder by the day.
Recently I bought a Ping G400 driving iron, having had only a 21 degree MP15 (Donald designed) 3 iron in the bag for ages. The G400 is cheat stick. I cannot hit a hybrid.
Why does everyone freak out when hitting an old school blade ? It's a golf club. Make a good swing and hit the dam thing. Golf is not easy sport... reguardless of what clubs your using You need to be able to make a good swing and strike the ball
*This is a Holy grail club right?! How would you hit this 2 iron?*

15 handicap, hitting 7 iron 175 yards??!! I presume your short game and putting are very poor…..
The MP33s have the old traditional lofts. All of the new clubs have stronger lofts. In some cases, a club and a half stronger.
