    That De Young mausoleum is the final resting place of Michael De Young, co-founder of the San Francisco Chronicle and namesake of the De Young Museum.

    Awesome cemetery! I love these old family mausoleums. I am glad to see that they are in good condition, and well cared for, for the most part. I get a kick out of seeing a broom being left in some of them, for family members to use when doing their annual cleaning. I hope they think to bring a can of 3-in-one oil, and some wd-40 to lubricate the locks and hinges of the doors. Or would the cemetery grounds crew help with that?
    Great walking tour, thank you very much Tony. Have a great day. 😊

    Mausoleums are very impressive no doubt. If one could afford to go that route I would hope that a perpetual care fund would have been established for care and maintenance down the road. I have seen some that were in such sad condition after those entombed have long long been forgotten.

      Thanks! I’ve had people tell me that I just walked by a family members grave in one of my videos, or I’ve been asked specifically to visit a grave of somebody because they lived out of state and haven’t been back to visit that grave in years and they can’t travel because of health reasons. But it actually happens pretty often that somebody will put in my comments that I walked by their grandmother, or their aunt or somebody.

    Think about the hours it took to hand carve the stone and time to design and pour the metal for the doors. Probably not many hand stone carvers anymore. Plexiglass to keep what is inside inside. LOL

    Nice calming walk thank you Tony. Who would think an old potato farm? I'm crazy claustrophobic in situations even on the plane. Gotta have windows for sure. Thank you for this walk. The five or so with the iron gates makes me feel much better. Fresh air flow that's nice.

    Many of the mausoleums are certainly grand but remember that most were built by families in the days before taxes when large fortunes were established. Families oftentimes left trust funds for their maintenance but, for example, the income from $50,000 left in 1900 went much farther than it would in today's world. Additionally, in many cases, no family members are left or if they are, they cannot afford the cost of the maintenance of a mausoleum. Lastly, many cemeteries are having problems simply running the cemetery let alone maintaining mausoleums. (Income from the now popular cremation burial is far less than that of a full burial.) Sadly, these magnificent monuments will eventually cease to exist. Nothing lasts forever!

    I’m waiting for the day when you slide the Endoscope into a space & something grabs it….just sayin…..😂

  • @jeffreyyoung4104
    @jeffreyyoung4104 3 месяца назад

    Hi Tony! I am surprised you got any backlash for using the endoscope. You would think they would be happy you are able to get insider info on the Mausoleums! Oh well, I guess you can't please everyone! As for me, I say use it whenever you can!
    These were some good shots on the Mausoleums, I enjoy every recording you make of the many cemeteries in your area, even repeats! You never know when a change may be found, like the open crypt in the one Mausoleum waiting for a new occupant to arrive!
    Do the cemeteries in your area forbid dogs? I went to one in my area, and they had a sign, no dogs allowed, however, they had no way to keep wandering dogs out... If it is due to messes, I am one who brings bags for such accident clean up!

    • @CryptDoor
      @CryptDoor  3 месяца назад +1

      Some have signage up about dogs

    • @jeffreyyoung4104
      @jeffreyyoung4104 3 месяца назад +1

      @@CryptDoor That is what I found, but rather than "CLEAN UP AFTER YOU DOG", they had "NO DOGS ALLOWED". Which bothers me, as I like to have my dobie boy along for the ride and walk around, and I always carry "doggie bags" for clean up!
      And the cemetery isn't in a nice area, and I don't feel safe going alone there.

Some very interesting info of the past 🤔

    You know, when they build the fancy mausoleums, monuments to themselves, they expect people to look at them. If they have windows, they want people to look inside. When they are maintained inside, they especially want people to look.
    Ha! Holy Cross Cemetery. Catholic? Everyone buried there has worn-out knees from kneeling. lol
    We have a wealthy DeYoung family in Fresno. They are in construction. They married into another Fresno construction dynasty, the Bonadelle family. Hey! That's a spicy-a meat-a-ball. lol
    Oh, the McCaffrey family, also in construction, married into the Bonadelle family also.
