- King Charles takes his seat in the House of Lords for the state opening of Parliament, where he will set out the UK government's upcoming agenda in the King's Speech.
King Charles III set out an election-focused UK legislative agenda at the ceremonial opening of Parliament, with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak focusing on a series of low-cost measures that lean heavily on right-wing politics as he tries to hold onto power in a nationwide vote expected next year.
Facing about a 20-point poll deficit against the main opposition Labour Party, Sunak’s government announced tougher sentences for criminals, more drilling for North Sea oil and gas and limited housing reforms in a pitch that aimed to draw dividing lines with Keir Starmer’s party.

@@johnfritz7497Jesus was not King of a physical earthly state. Kings on earth are delegates for God so why on earth would he become man for a government position? As for the pomp, regalia, and tradition, it is exceptionally important to have things like this that unite the entire country. Not everyone is smart, they can only understand power if it is shiny and gold. You think evey King and Emperor wore Gold just because they like the color? I'm not saying the less bright are bad, but how else can you convey authority to people are unable understand abstract concepts?
And yes it is ostentatious, because it HAS to be to convey majesty and legitimacy. Have you read the entire Bible? Do you not recall what happened with the gift the apostles wanted to sell so they could give away money? How about unto Cesar what is Cesar's? You are living in fantasy if you think removing your monarchy will do any good for you. The royals are CARRYING the whole tourism industry in the UK. The monarch is a person who really cares for the people. Arguing that because the monarchy is an "age old tradition" and "it costs us so much" and hence it should be abolished, is ridiculous especially when these assertions can be very easily refuted. Nowadays people are ashamed of a millenium of tradition and heritage... Such a pity!
