  • King Charles III promised to follow the late Queen's "selfless duty" in his first address to both Houses of Parliament as monarch.
    The King said Parliament was the "living and breathing instrument of our democracy" as he spoke in front of 900 MPs and peers at Westminster Hall.
    It followed condolences from speakers of the House of Commons and Lords.

    To witness the end of an era of the longest reigning monarch in history and now the crowning of a new king. This is momentous. Not everyone gets to witness this. Then, the words are changed to "God save the King" and you're reminded anew that your mother is gone -- nevermind the role and responsibility you now bear for your country and for your mother's own legacy. He's so remarkably poised and clearly understands the gravity of his new position. That was impressive. And as an American I'm a little pissed off that we stole "God Save the King" and turned it in to "America" with new lyrics. I apologize on behalf of my country. That's YOUR song.

    Even as a German this spech was emotional for me. England and the United Kingdom as a whole is a great country with rich culture and history. My best wishes for the reign of the new King Charles III.. You could see how overwhelming his emotions must have been during the antheme. I can't imagine how dificult it has to be being up there, griefing for the own mother but also doing the duty in giving a speech and ascending the throne. I haven't heard many speeches of him but when he was in Germany once I listened to one he gave entirely in (really well spoken) German. The origins of his father in my mind I thought that was really sympathic, respectful and humble of him. He dind't need to, considering English is his native language, but he wanted to show it as a token of respect and friendship for Germany. I am sure he will be a great king.

    • @vaw796
      @vaw796 Год назад

      You can have them. These are not wonderful traditions, but part of a feudal system that needs to be abolished. The suffering came to millions due to their ancestors, every bit of land they have was stolen, wars they instigated for power and money, enslaving others to grow richer and dominate. Why people ignore the truth about HOW they got their titles and riches is revolting. I do not support an unelected head of state, self-given titles, hereditary roles, wearing medals they have for being a so called royal and people bowing to a human is disgusting. We in the UK are a democracy and there this man is, an adulterer with his ex mistress turned wife sitting on thrones and expecting special treatment all for being born or marrying into it. #REPUBLICUK #NOTMYKING

In fact it seems he was about to lose it and just wanted to leave so he wouldn’t lose it. This is so hard for him though you’ve known all your life the reality is so different.
