- King Charles has given his first State Opening of Parliament speech as Monarch with key announcements including restrictions on smoking and commitments on tackling climate change and crime.
The King also condemned the "barbaric acts of terrorism against the people of Israel" and that government ministers will "facilitate humanitarian support into Gaza and support the cause of peace and stability in the Middle East.

Although previously on tuesday the 10th of may 2022, then Prince Charles delivered carried out this state function on behalf of his mother, her majesty Queen Elizabeth II who couldn't attend because of mobility issues occasioned by her very old age.
In all the late monarch, her majesty Queen Elizabeth II only missed this event thrice in her 70 years reign.
1. In 1959 when she was expecting Prince Andrew.
2. In 1963 when she was expecting Prince Edward
3. In 2022 for reasons stated above.
The British are always the best when it comes to pomp and ceremony.

It's very cheap for the tax payer, the Royal Family produce a net positive income in the tens of millions of dollar range just directly. They're a great business for the peoples, and provide us with large amounts of wealth through taxation, funding, etc. The republicans who hate tradition will often not mention that, or pretend somehow we are mere 'peasants' who have to 'pay' for the Royal Family - that's never been the case, the Crown has always stood on it's own feet and given to the people.

No. It's an event that happens every year when the Monarch attends Parliament which is where the Government run the country from. The Monarch reads the speech outlining the present government's plans for the coming year. It is one of the rare occasions when the Monarch wears a Crown and full regal clothing. What we never see is that every day the Monarch receives new Law proposals/changes which are either signed off or given suggested amendments - and every week the Monarch and the Prime Minister meet in person for talks on the state of the nation.
