Trust me, as a 15yr old this was life and death to get a win in Cyprus, I must’ve replayed that goal a 100 times after the game. Brillaint moment in a brilliant campaign
Was up the back in Chemistry class when this game was going on listening to the radio commentary with headphones. When Gough scored the entire back row of the class jumped up in the air and went mental. Punishment exercises all round.

I watched that live on TV in Scotland. My boss didn’t know that I skived off work. Every one of these extra minutes was justified by the East German ref. They were the days when refs usually never added on enough time and so time-wasting worked. A Richard Gough special!
Our headmaster took the whole school into the gym hall so we could watch this game on tv

I remember this clearly, virtually no time added on ever happened in games,so I think the ref got a wee brown envelope with a mince pie with brown sauce on it 😜.

I'd say this referee was lucky to escape with his life out of Nicosia back then. Probably never went anywhere near Cyprus for a holiday since, with that time added on.
Was at the game with a party of Jambo's I'm a Raith man but it was a brilliant week apart from the game. The Jambo's by the way were from Inverkeithing.
Leighton's keeping was shocking.
