One of the most sacred JDM cars, the late 90’s Mazda RX-7.
And almost completely unmolested too, crazy.
Didn't have any rear spoiler which is quite rare and the red interior is also rare. They really are fantastic cars stock. Mine is still stock and I loved driving it. But it's blown a coolant seal. I'm trying to weigh up keeping the stock twins or a modern single turbo. Hard decision.
@@gav240z Bathurst twin turbo is a direct bolt on. Turbo`s are Hitachi like the original ones. Easy decision.

Anyone who knows nothing or little about cars, would likely mistake a RX-7 for a C5 Corvette (also very pretty imo) because it looks very similar from certain angles.

That was a real treat! You have done a wonderful job! Being a good dad is much harder than any restoration I have ever done.
My wife’s cousin, an F-16 pilot, had an RX7. He drove it fast. I had a GLC. Good mileage, no go. Mazdas are well engineered and fun cars.

This may be my favorite episode of Barn Find Hunter ever.
Check out Ammo NYC channel. They just came across 300 rare cars gathering dust in a warehouse. Prototypes, one of two cars, one of four Bizzarinis, Ford GT40's, Ferrari F40's, Cobras etc. It's insane
The coolest thing was that Tom just let Brian tell the story of his own cars. I say that because after a couple of minutes, it just became another great episode where a guy is telling a story about his cars. I had forgotten it was his son that fast, which is a testament to the format. I also liked that Tom was just Dad enough and host enough that he was up to his normal asking for clarification and poking around the immediate area.

11:10 thant's beacuse the hood for that model was redesigned short after many hoods (what you call step hood is called "scalino" in italian) were already build. So, instead of throwing them away, they decided to put those no matter what. And a legend was born. That's the story behind that little step!

Tom, you have every reason to be very proud of Brian. We really do look forward to his occasional appearance on Barn Finds with you. He seems very personable and quite knowledgeable as well. I really enjoyed your visit with Paul Spruell and hearing about his SCCA history. I used to crew for another SCCA National Champ who won D-Sport Racer 4 out of 5 years in the late 1980's and early 1990's. Excellent episode!

Paul Spruell is a very known and respected Alfa Romeo guy. They supply good amount of street/race Alfa parts that helped me built few engines that are still running.
Tom the was the best episode ewer seeing you with your son and his awesome cars. I really hope he will some day continue your work.

Great to see Tom’s son in this one. Also bought a 3.2 Targa before old 911s got expensive. Put 50k miles on it - commuting, road tripping, tracking, canyon carving - and sold it for more than I paid for it (with 240k on the clock).
This is my absolute favorite episode. Hands down. I actually dropped tears of joy
nice to see 90s cars become collectable classics. Knowing the Volvo scene the 850R wagon from the mid 90s has become a beloved classic.
Back in my old days at Summit Point (I crewed for a SSC/ITB racing co-worker), the Mazda
rotaries were out in force. The exhaust sound out of them (running pretty much open exhaust)
reminded me very much of popcorn popping - hence my nicknaming one of them (a friends'
racer) "Hamilton Beach" after a popular popper at the time.
Some of the others in the bunch we had at the track called them "Quisinarts" or "La Machine"
after popular food processors of those days.
The cars were incredibly light and quick and usually put on quite the show on the track, what
with their unique sounds and typical flames belching out the pipe on downshifts.
I miss those days at the track. Seems like things were simpler and more fun back then.

My first new car (age 25) was a 1985 Alfa Graduate purchased from Paul. Drove it as a daily for over a decade. What a great car!

Love this episode...I am an ALFA fan. Had a 69-70 Duetto that I bought new and I kept for over 40 years. I finally sold it to make garage space for my 2015 4C LE also bought new. Loved the old Duetto and if I had the garage space I would have both. The old car was durable and lot of fun to drive as it had a souped up engine, trick suspension, etc. The 4C has been dead reliable and an absolute blast to drive. Have had lot of other cars in my life (72 years old now) but only the ALFAs make me want to keep them for a long time.
I had a 1300 Normal & a 1300 Veloce 1960 & 1963. Lovely little cars wonderful to see a show on ALFA's

That lowered van was done by Joe Martin and crew, Martin Bros. Customs (Johnson City, Texas), from the TV show Iron Resurrection, for their upholsterer Cato!!! Nice to see it again!!
I would never have imagined all this time I have been watching your channel that you would have a mazda rx7(FD3S) in the family. That is just awesome. FYI I too have a problem taking in cars from the 90's. Also a proud owner of a 94 RHD RX7.
Wow wish me and my dad could bond that way.... he does not know much about cars... yet he teaches me about it... sparking my inner car guy to this day.... i always wanted him to say "good job son" since im fixin his old 83 corolla liftback.... i wish you guys all the best and hopefully the car bug bites down further and passes down to the next gen.... :3

I love your sons choice in cars. He also did a good job in his reviews. There is a lot of hype on rotary engine blowing up but that often is not true when you have a good engine builder, tunning, good fuel, premix and a responsible owner. I auto crossed my rx7 Fd many of times without any fails. It is so true about the odometer. I just sent my gauges out to DNA speedometers in Tampa, Fl to have them fix them. I liked the review so much that I just subscribed.

Great to see a stock FD. I would replace the stock plastic overflow tank. Especially if u are tracking it! Love Love Love the stock stereo and interior.. Had a stock 94 R2 (except reliability mods) i sold in 2001, what a car!

You and your & our friend Peter Egan, represent so well my generation. I got to know you by Peter in one of his crazy adventure story, when you with him riding shotgun, to drive your new 289 Cobra from CA to your home across mountains, in freezing cold, rain, snow etc.

My supervisor, in the early '80's, bought a new, or almost new, Alfa-I'm not sure if it was the car, or the mechanics-(or lack of mechanics), but he would constantly call me to tell me he would be late for work, because the Alfa had some issues.He loved the car anyway, so we didn't give him a hard time about it. Thanks for the great video, as always!

Love the boat tail Duetto. This was just before Kammbacks became all the rage, when a lot of gorgeous ass ends were uglified for a negligible improvement of aerodynamics. Been following Jethro Bronner's restoration project of lovely white one.

Cool to see you still out there finding old cars , and with your son yet . I've been into cars for so long and the last few years mostly VW . witch is why this vid. made me sit up and take notice . I'm in the process of rebuilding my 1968 bug ( Baja ) for the forth time . This time the body is going onto a 76 pan in order to get more lift for a taller tire .I built this car for going fishing , I Love to fish. Any way as for the motor I've got 1641 cc sp with some tricky work done to it .When tested she was making 103 hp at 4400 RPM .Hard to believe but true . The list of tricks in this thing would take too long to list . She's a mini hemi sort of and gets 27 MPG and a lot of fun. Keep up the good work

My Grandpa did Formula V. Told me when the car came into pits. They would stick a potato on the the exhaust just before the engine was shut off. Kept the engine from sucking in cold air and warping the valves.

On your sons car, the rx7, I would take the washable air filters out and get rid of them, put back regular disposable filter back on. The reasoning behind this is that the former one has larger spacing and allows particles to bombard you turbo impeller and destroy it, like a sand blast. Eventually you will need new turbos w/k&n. Great show, thanks.
this is the take away from performance air filters is that to get better flow means more particles can be sucked in.though one thing though is these filters tend to be oiled and helps trap particles.i dont think it has enough microns to damage the compressor wheel as my 92 nissan silvia turbo uses one of the cone oil filters and compressor wheel looks ok?ive had these filters 20 years now on my turbo with no sand blasted wheel
Alfa Romeos were called Giulia and Giulietta as an hommage to Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” tragedy, but it was also a word pun because the Alfa owner at the time was called Nicola Romeo (Romeo and Juliet). There you go
My grandfather was also an engineer from the late 1950s throughout the early 2000s, thanks to him i’ve always been deeply in love with Alfas

That lowered van was built by Martin Brothers Customs out of Johnson City Texas. It belongs to Cato, he did interiors for Martin Brothers. They did the van as a gift to Cato. He recently moved to Ga for his wife's job. A really talented interior guys, appears to be a really great guy too. He used to be on Iron Resurrection on Discovery Channel. Would love to see what he is up to now.

My dad has a van just like the lowered one at the intro, a 48 International Metro, I went to Woodstock In it in 1994 as well as Jimmy Paige and Robert Plant and Phish and Pink Floyd, most when I was under 12 years old. We still have it with over 500k miles.
