My parents are heterosexual, and I had the same experience in regards to hair, makeup etc. I think that's how most childhoods are. Cheap blue eyeshadow, terrible hair decisions. Your mothers aren't meant to be your stylists aha, that's more of a sister/best friend thing. Not being rude, just wanted to let you know that things most likely wouldn't have been different in that respect if you had straight parents x

My mum has always had short hair so never really did my hair (besides brushing it) and never taught me how. So now I suck at styling my hair haha XD it's not her fault though, it's just what happened

Vienna Elizabeth my mom "taught" me makeup but I have never liked the way she did hers. My mom dresses like an old lady and has for as long as I can remember. That being said, when it came to giving me ideas for what to do with my hair and jewelry for things like prom, she was inclined in that sense. But I feel like, like you said, it's a person based thing. And not always just that a mom isn't stylish or into makeup, just that the times have changed.
I don't think all straight moms know how to do makeup and French braid and all of that. There are a lot of moms that don't wear dresses and aren't very feminine. I'm gay and I'm like the most girly person you will meet. Okay let's not over do it now haha.. But I like pink and sparkles and makeup and dresses and bows and all that and I like girls that are very feminine as well. So my kids will have two of those moms. So I don't think you didn't have that growing up because you had two moms, but just because it happened to be that both of your parents weren't very feminine.

Angela Carlton I think with any type of parents it is important to introduce ur kids to many types of adults, kids, and families. It makes the kids less timid and shy and improves their speech and all those milestones
Angela Carlton as long as you raise your children the right way and make them into strong people they will not resent you for it. Children need a safe base and it doesn't matter if that is a mom and a dad, two moms or two dads, one mom or one dad. Trust me, I work with children and I know what they need to grow into great and greatful adults! Just do your best as a parent and try to give them as much as the world has to offer.

Some of these things aren't gay parent things... For example, my mum didn't teach me anything about makeup and forbid me to wear it, she didn't wear it often either, but she did know how to apply it, to an extent.
And I also didn't have a father, tons of kids don't. That's not a straight or gay parent thing.

My parents never really connected with me or my brother(they're straight). So I never really had a nurturing mom who would teach me about girl stuff or to do girl things with (she's not really girly, she's a tomboy). I also never had a "daddy's little girl" type relationship with my dad. I was always nervous or scared around him too. I'd get a little sad when some of the kids in my school would talk about doing fun things with their families. Mine would always just stay in their rooms and never come out.

I have heterosexual parents and heck I'm still nervous around grown men even in my early 20s. I have no problem socialising with guys close to/my age but I'm very uncomfortable around older guys. I think its just how we handle it, specially with the dangers we're been raised to be wary of as females.

I don't understand the big difference of possible straight children contracting it through birth instead of sexual contact - it's still a big problem that needs to be solved. Instead of targeting gay/bi men in Africa (especially with all the homophobia floating around it would be very difficult to reach the intended group) it would be a lot better to getting HIV+ people on medication to lower their virus load and stop the spreading, prevent raping and weaken rape culture and helping women giving birth safely to children so that the infection isn't passed on to the child.
Your opinions on homosexuality is not worthy of a comment, but one does wonder why you would seek up a video with this content if that is your mindset.

AyoCarina I understand where you're coming from and that's obviously a lot more hard but it is also hard to be raised by gay parents. A lot of children aged 7-15 think it's weird and it makes it hard to have a carefree social life and just invite people round and when you do tell people it can spread and it becomes hot gossip because it's not common. I know myself because my mum is gay but please don't think I'm dismissing how hard it is for you! You just have to understand it's hard for us as well.
i think the "doing the hair and make up" thing has nothing to do with being gay. some women just dont like it, or arent interested.

I had a female mom and a male dad and they were not good together at all. I wish my mom would've left my dad way before they had been together for 43 years. I have one sibling-- a younger brother. We saw more horrible things when we were growing up than anyone should ever see. Dad was a sexual deviant. Mom didn't like sex at all. I can't say that I blame her knowing what dad did to her. So you have 2 moms. If they made you feel happy as a child rather than anxious and depressed, you're winning this game we call life. If they are still together and you can go to their home on Thanksgiving or Christmas and you can enjoy your time with them, then you are one lucky lady! ❤️

Tbf I feel like a decent amount of the comments are about how some of her criticisms aren't really related to their gayness, rather their personalities. Like when she's talking about not having a mum who knew how to do her hair / teach her about make up / etc - that's more about having a traditionally girly mum rather than having 2. My mum is a bit of a tomboy and never knew how to do any of that. Obviously neither did my dad. I think that's one of the main criticisms people have is acting as though gay parents means anything more than having two parents of the same gender. Their individual personalities are a different issue.

Just playing devil's advocate here, but I think I can understand why the absence of small and seemingly insignificant things like this may have had even the tiniest bit of impact on her. There are societal norms translated in multiple venues in our modern culture whether it be television shows, movies, commercials, etc. Having parents of the same gender isn't as common in those venues, so I can understand why she'd feel the way she does. I really don't think it was intended to be ungrateful, it's just something that might have made her feel the absence of societal normality growing up.

+Anonymous11243 i just came from a video of a lesbian couple discussing this, they tried "mommy b" and "mommy s" (first letter of their first names), but they said it was quite a mouthful & too difficult for small children to say. they eventually went with "mama" and "mom" and when their first kid learned to spell, she spelled mom like mo-mo-mo and eventually "mo" (pronounced Emm-Oh) stuck with the kid, so that's what she is called. the couple were saying it has to be 1) really easy to pronounce for a kid and 2) organic, like that "mo" nickname developed.
I live with my two mum's (they identify as bisexuals) who have been together for 32 years.. but I know my dad, and he is gay, and him and his partner have been together for 34 years. They did it like a sperm donor type thing, except they did it privately, in the fact that all my parents were friends for about 4 years, before my mum put forward the idea to have a baby, with my dad as the donor.. they had to try 7 times before I came along (partly because my mum had me when she was 40). I still see my dad's, just not as often, as they run a B&B and are very busy.

I'm reading through the comments on this video, and a lot of them seem so extreme? Guys, life is hard. Children care about little things, and being an adult & a parent doesn't come with a handbook. I come from a straight (now kind of broken) family, and I can promise you that I didn't learn how to braid my hair or do my makeup via my mum. In fact, I taught her a lot of things. I learned on my own. It's TOTALLY OKAY for Kaylee to feel like she missed out on some things, because when you're a kid, the little things are all you have. Her feelings are totally valid. It doesn't make her a bad kid, and it doesn't make her mums bad parents! I'm sure it was hard for everyone, as it is in straight families, divorced families, single parent families, etc. We don't always have to point fingers. We don't always have to have someone to blame. Life just happens to you, and all you can do is your best. I'm certain that I won't be a perfect parent, no matter how hard I try and how good my intentions might be. I will fuck up. We will all fuck up. And when we do, it's up to us to own it, apologise and change. Kaylee told her story- I'm sure her mums could tell their side of it as well! Just think about things and put yourselves in other people's shoes before you spew hatred in either direction. Love x

I came from hetero parents and my mom still didn't know how to do those things... and i was always scared of older men other than my dad too so those things just make you normal. It sounds like you had a pretty solid childhood. Your moms did a great job raising an intelligent, well spoken young woman! ....and yay for liberals ❤️❤️❤️

@@joblupata3673 what they mean is that the "man" is in the relationship, meaning that had a common household consistently with a father(which it seems you're lacking) and a mother, and maybe siblings. We get it science isn't that far yet and it's simple biology ( congratulations for figuring that one out). But perhaps enlighten yourself by conducting simple research as to how lesbian parents make a child before commenting on something that's meant to support the creator of the video and not shunning them.
Why did you only talk about negatives? And negatives that didn't even have to do with two lesbian mothers? I don't know anyone who's mom taught them how to do makeup. My mom is not girly, she never taught me makeup or gave me fancy hairdos. You're just going off of stereotypes man. TheMickeyFrancis I know exactly where you're coming from but i have to say being raised by two mums does have some strain and awkward situations etc. Especially when they divorce and have new partners. And even though there are amazing times it's still hard to talk to about the bad to anyone because it sounds like you are ungrateful or unhappy. Maybe this was just an easy way to vent, since there's rarely someone who understands and you don't really know most people on RUclips. My step sister and I say the exact same things. I found talking to someone about a home problem just confused people and raised stupid questions like ' what do you call them'

All doctors I've heard of ask all teens about their sexuality; regardless of their parents. And most girls do very bad makeup early on, especially grade 8.

Mine never asked me anything about sexuality or gender. I was just asked if I was sexually active (in front of my parents so I said no even when I finally was) and I'm queer and transgender. I wish somebody would have asked me because I probably wouldn't have had such a hard time figuring it out and feeling alone and isolated until I realized that I wasn't the only person with gender dysphoria and was interested in men and women (I didn't know about nonbinary genders at the time)

Awww, don't worry, my mom didn't teach my anything about make-up, hair, menstruation or epilation :))). Not all mothers are like in movies. Some are shy, some are old school, some have awful clothing style or some are very open. Everyone is different, even mothers XD.
My mother is straight as hell. But I always had to learn everything myself. How to do my hair, how to do my make-up, what to wear... I´m more feminine than her and I´m lesbian. The only thing is that I like more black clothes and she likes to wear white and pink and so. I like bright colors too, but it have to have something with black. :D

Every family have problems and specifics. It doesn´t matter if it´s straight or gay family. Just the things around it may be little different but I believe, to grow up with lesbian mothers must have been difficult because of the time you grew up in. It´s kind of different these days I think. :)

1. I grew up with a dad and I was scared of most grown men, too. I'm sorry but you can't blame that on your moms.
2. I grew up with straight parents and my doctors started asking my sexuality/if I was gay when I was 13. It's more to do with making sure you're getting the right care when you're perhaps becoming sexually active or even emotionally attracted to people.
3. Okay so that might be your parents' fault but they were trying to protect you and stop you from being bullied, you can't have things both ways

I have a very stylish, feminine mother but she never actively taught me anything about makeup - even after I went to her at the age of 13/14 and asked her to do it for me, she was always very against me wearing it often (she deemed it unnecessary for my age and bad for pimples etc, which I totally get tbh). The stereotype that you have of straight mothers teaching their daughters how to do makeup is funny and absurd. A mother is a mother. All mothers are different and just because a few mothers do something doesn't make it the norm.
the makeup thing is for most girls i think... at least as a girl born in 1991 pretty much all people I knew did the most embarrasing makeup. I don't know anyone whose mother taught them how to do makeup and most girls just played around until they eventually got better.

I grew up without a father, my mom is straight, and was rarely around grown men and I'm just fine. My mom doesn't wear dresses, wears little to no makeup and doesn't know how to french braid hair because she is not super feminine. I think your issuse are less about your parents and more about you as an individual.
Good video. Statistically, gay parents are better parents due to the fact that there are no cases of accidental pregnancies. So all children of gay couples are actually wanted, and therefore more likely to be well treated than cases when kids just happen to straight teens etc.
You said that everyone should be able to have children no matter what is the situation. I would say that there are people who should not have children, for example like someone whose life is a mess due to drugs or mental problems. And the sad truth is that in many places poverty is also a thing that will make your children's life worse. Where I live, becoming a parent (as a gay man) would require a lot of money and a trip to India or some other country that has legal surrogate babybearing system. And I have no ways of getting that amount of money so I'm doomed to be childless..

I'm gay and my mother is totally straight, and she never used make up, she never braided my hair and I had to teach myself to use mascara. Well my parents aren't gay and i have experienced some of these like the make-up because my mom doesn't wear any and also feeling uncomfortable around men has happende to me before. :) I think it probably depends on the kind of people the parents are. My mum is straight, has an androgynous 'style' and never taught me about make up or hair styles or anything like that... she doesn't take me shopping or do anything particularly 'feminine'... in fact my dad was the one who took my sister and I ball dress shopping.... gender doesn't dictate stereotypical femininity.... plus, in my house, my mum is the one who not only says yes when you ask for money, but won't make you feel like you owe her something in return... :P

I just subscribed because you're the only other person I've seen with gay parents that openly talk about it. It's nice to hear that I'm not the only person with gay parents, however I never had as many bad experiences with them.
I have two lesbian parents. At school whenever people mention a dad, I say "I don't have a dad, my parents are gay" because I love talking about myself. Usually I am sorta nervous for the response, but usually it is neutral because I don't really mind gay jokes, because I make a lot of dark jokes like that anyways. I dont really think people care that much after I tell them, except for when one of my really Christian friends mentioned a dad and I told him. I think that having gay parents gives me a more open mind, and I think it will really help me a lot later in life. I was also born by a sperm donor, so I don't know who my dad is, nor do I wish to meet him. My sister says that if we ever meet our dads they will be like "Thanks for helping me but that flat screen TV, man!" Lmao 😂 My parents do so their makeup and stuff, but I think of them as less feminine because they don't wear dresses or heels or anything like my sister does.

I found this video very informative , however I feel like most of the "missing out" style points are based off of stereotypes. My dad doesn't give me money just like that, nor did my mum teach me how to do my make up- plenty of straight mothers are not necessarily feminine either. Though I agree that the fears surrounding other children and adult men are completely valid. I would have to say that some of the other points are influenced by the stereotypical family situation. Which, conclusively, I would blame on the media.

I just wanted to say that my mom doesn't know how to braid hair and doesn't wear make-up, so, same. As a kid, I wanted someone "femenine" to look up to. I have two older brothers and my mom is probably as masculine as my dad. Eventually, I learned to live with it and found out there were more people like me out there. Masculine moms are really common, so relax. Stereotypes are getting in your brain about how moms should be. And also how dads should be, in my experience, no one gave me money monthly or anything, but when I asked for some (which was not often), my mom would be the one to give it to me... Remember all parents are different. What you're talking about may not have anything to do with the fact that you have two moms...

I see a lot of people saying they are scared/uncomfortable around older men. I work as a tradie in Australia as a scaffolder. I'm around these men all day and I get why you feel this way. They come across very aggressive and angry but that is just how they are. It's like when Germans speak, they sound angry but they are probably just saying "it's a lovely day". They are hard people that respond to strength, you must earn their respect. Old men are great people, they will toughen you up in the long run.
