      It's heartening to read your comment. Your story beautifully illustrates that love and acceptance are the true foundations of parenthood. The notion that one can 'convert' another's sexual orientation is a fallacy that thankfully more people are beginning to understand. Your experience with your sons and grandchildren highlights that genuine care, support, and understanding are what truly matter. Sexual orientation and gender identity should never overshadow the unconditional love that a parent offers. Your journey is a testament to the fact that love transcends all boundaries, fostering happiness and well-adjusted lives. Thank you for sharing such an inspiring perspective; it adds a profound depth to the conversation and reminds us all of the fundamental values of love and acceptance.

  • @leefi1
    @leefi1 2 месяца назад +41

    I was raised in a heterosexual home with church-going parents. There were constant fights, domestic violence, and our parents both worked outside of the home. Our older brother was very happily, joyfully sadistic, but since he was ":left in charge" we suffered constant abuse at his hands. By abuse, I don't mean sibling squabbles, it was physical, emotional and sexual abuse. Our Brother was a monster but our parents were oblivious to his cruelty. To this day, my little Sister and I have no contact with him, we have not one good memory of our brother. In a final irony, he is a Psychologist.
    When my parents found out that I was gay, they threatened me with having me arrested, it was the 60's in the South, it was not an empty threat. They told me to leave town or else! The greatest gift they gave me? How to navigate awful events with equilibrium and poise. I'm steady and calm.
    I was lucky, I have always had a wide array of friends, from the School Board President, my mentor and friend Ann, to teachers and my friends who were mostly gay couples in the military, so I was well protected from my parents. My friend paid my tuition at my chosen University, where my teachers had been educated. My favorite teachers all attended the school over a period of 35 years. I came out there in 1970, it was a warm, loving University that accepted me with open arms. To give you an idea of how much worse the world is now; my University was in central Alabama. The 1970's were wonderful.
    You had amazing parents who happened to be gay men. I had awful parents who happened to be straight. My Mother eventually drove my Father to alcoholism and suicide, we heard a 'pop' and my Mother told me "Go see what he's done. So I got to watch him die. My parents had finally made amends and accepted me as I am. I was visiting, and just in time to hear their constant fighting again, and the result. My Father's death.
    As far as anyone could tell, our parents were lovely people, entertaining and fun to be around. Both were respected for their work. But for we two younger kids, the reality was far, far, different!

      +liz violet Indeed, great kid. It has been well-known for some time that any child raised by ANY TWO ADULTS (whether those adults are in an intimate relationship or not) has the best chances of coming out well-adjusted. A result of several studies done I think over a decade ago, it was not exactly something the public was ready to hear. As long as their presence is consistent, any two adults, period : - )

    • @GothicElf68
      @GothicElf68 7 лет назад +26

      Not ironic at all. It has more to do with the temperaments and mental stability of the parents who raise a child than what their sexuality is. A child being raised by parents that are mentally unstable, and/or who suffer from addition is far more likely grow into an adult than those children of emotionally mature adults. It makes no difference whether these two parents are heterosexual or homosexual. People who believe otherwise have been misinformed and buy into the stereotypes without doing any actual research on the matter.
      Parenting style has a a huge role to play as well. Psychologists have identified four basic parenting styles, and of them, only one is really good. (At least here in the U.S.) These are Authoritarian: in which the parents expect obedience and silence from their children. Children are not encouraged to ask questions, in particular to why they are being told to do something or not to do something. Disobedience is usually met with punishment, often harsh. These children often grow up to be inhibited and to lack self esteem. Neglectful: these parents take little to no interest in their children beyond putting a roof over their head and food in their belly (and sometimes not even that much.) Children of neglectful parents often have severe trust issues (gee, I wonder why? *heavy sarcasm*) Then there is the Permissive style. These parents want to be their child's friend. They often think they are great parents, because they take an active interest in the things their children are interested in. unfortunately, they also fail to discipline their children and make excuses for them when they get into trouble. These children grow up to be insecure, do not understand the concepts of authority and rules (laws) and often get into trouble as adults because they've never had to face the consequences of their actions. Finally there is the Authoritative parent. These parents are active in their child's life, and provide loving support, but also clear and well established rules and boundaries, with consequences for both good and bad behavior. For example, if the rule is little Johnny has to complete his homework before gaming on his XBox and he fails to do so, the XBox gets taken away. Conversely, if he does complete his homework before gaming, Mom or Dad might join him for a 1v1 of Johnny's favorite game. These children often grow into respectable, well rounded adults.
      So parenting style combined with the mental and emotional stability of the parents is what is important.

      Yes that is true however you have to consider the fact that there is an emotional "hole" that is created when one gender is missing in someone's parenting. I totally agree that the male parents in this video seem to be very level headed and smart and i am sure that they are extremely capable and that makes them a lot better parents than a large number of other gay and straight couples. However, it is important to note that they can't fulfill the need that a child has for a female parent. There are just some things that are missing in the child's life as a result. Mind you this is also the case for straight single parents. So this situation is definitely better than being in an orphanage or having a single parent.

      @mertcameron8956 What do you mean when you say, “This kid will go far.”? Can you offer him a career that would allow him to pay rent in his own apartment? A college education does not necessarily determine success in a career. Familiar with the expression “still living in his parents’ basement at age 30”? That is another example of the non-importance of a parent’s gender. Unless you offer a job to the young man in this video, you are clueless about his future.

      I would watch this BEFORE I think about raising kids. Love is not just a warm, fuzzy feeling. It's being able to put the other person's needs ahead of your own, no matter how much that hurts.
      To LISTEN to and recognize those needs, and sacrifice your own if necessary.
      Listen: ruclips.net/video/tyqApok2gaU/видео.html I want my mom to be proud.
      This boy was raised by 2 dads, and they obviously all love each other. But the tremendous sense of loss and longing that can never be filled by anyone but mom is very evident. I cried. I hope his mom was watching and wants to meet him. And realizes just how important a mom is to a boy, a loss that 2 dads could never fill.
      ruclips.net/video/_BP_QmFC7BA/видео.html - I wanted a father
      The other side of the coin. A little girl that never knew the joy of being swept up in her father's arms, and knew the sense of loss at a very young age, even though she could not understand it yet.
      The needs of the child FAR OUTWEIGH any need of adults. These children have fundamental needs and basic rights. No adults needs trump this. The human race has TWO COMPLEMENTARY genders. Nothing is every going to redefine that.

    Whoa! I have never seen/heard another young man look and sound so close to my own son in all my Youtubing. Right down to the inflection in your voice, to the word choice/usage, and subject matter, and how you flowed from one subject to another. Since I know my son to be very cool, I am figuring you are just as cool, just wish we lived closer! We are on the mid-east coast outside of Baltimore. You rock babe, you keep on being you, as I know you will. Love to you from Glen Burnie Maryland. :)

Although I now live with my grandmother (NOT AT ALL BECAUSE OF MY PARENTS) but I would just like to say I fully support you and understand what you are going through. I turned out perfectly fine as did you obviously, and I love to say here in Delaware where I live gay marriage is legal and I am glad you fought it out too.

    What a bright, clear-minded, well-spoken, pleasant young gentleman you are! I am so impressed with how well you express yourself, and how clearly you articulate you're thoughts. I'm also impressed that you're interested in so many things. You are an intelligent, well-rounded young man. Your dads are awesome, first of all for adopting, giving you a living and supportive family. I hope the rest of you're family members are just as supportive. Your fathers have done a wonderful job in raising you. Knowing that you are part of the people who will run society when I'm old is comforting. I hope there are many more like you and your dads!
    I'm so glad that Minnesota now allows same-sex marriage. It's about time! Soon, howitzer, the entire country will be on board!

    Threw me for a loop when he said he was 15 and born in '97 lol. As someone who grew up with fighting hetero alcoholic parents it absolutely was not a place I thrived. Homophobia was drilled into me at a very young age and even now still struggle to accept myself.
    It's absolutely insane how brainwashing kids with homophobia is socially accepted and even encouraged but telling someone anyone can love anyone causes such outrage.
    I hope one day it's as accepted in society to be gay as it is to be left handed, and we'll look back on how ridiculous it was to be discriminating gay people like how ridiculous it was to be discriminating against left handers.

    This goes out to the young man who made this video. I APPLAUD you for making this video, and it's my wish that you don't read too many of the comments by religious zealots and pure haters. Sadly, there are still too many people out there who don't understand anything beyond their nose and their religion. @@cookiebrain129 Maybe these close minded bigots should read "Putin Country" by Ann Garrels. She spent a lot of time there as a reporter and freelancer for NPR. She goes into just how bad Russia is, their lack of proper facilities for children and how Daddy Vlad put the kibosh on gay ANYTHING after he got the Olympics. He is refusing to allow ANY adoptions to ANY country who has legalized gay marriage.
      I am somehow not surprised to see that a few people who I blocked due to their hatred and bigotry when I see 2 or 4 responses to a post and only one shows up. I think these people have nothing to do except troll any videos that have any gay theme just to spread their vile opinions.

    This is a perfect example of why gay marriage needs to be normalized and legalized. This poor kid is so worked up about something that shouldn't even be within his frame of reference. He should be worried about midterms, puberty and all that other teenage stuff.

    Okay, so, screw all of the negative people in the comments. I think you're a lovely young man with two loving parents and I'm so happy for you. I don't understand why two people that love each other can't vow each other's love and faithfulness. Because that's what marriage is. It isn't a man saying "I'll take care of my wife" or a woman saying "that I'll take care of my husband." It IS two people saying that for the rest of my life I will be faithful to you; I will love you; I will take care of you; I will be there for you when you need me; I'll be your hand to hold, your shoulder to cry on, and your partner-in-crime. And if you think that only a man and a woman can have that relationship and bond, then you are ignoring your own ignorance.
