I like this so much. I used "Baka Gaijin desu" at restaurant in Hiroshima. Restaurant staff were stunned initially, however they broke down with the most startling laughter I have ever heard. I broke through their insincere sincerity. To see a Japanese person let loose is a sight to behold. All restaurant staff lined up to bow and express salutations when I left. Most bizzare . Maybe they were telling me to "fuck off" however they were very nice about it.
Ken-san seems to be an expert at saying, "No, it is not true!" In which of the following scenarios has he used this response? A. "Conductor-san, this oyaji pressed his small banana against my dress in the train!" B. "Policeman-san, he was taking photos of my pantsu under the stairs!" C: "Principal-san, Ken-sensei asked me to remove my clothes for art class!" D: "Judge-san, this baby was made by Ken-san and I can prove it!" E. All of the above.
The most effective praise: “I have been to China and Korea, Japan is the best! “ hahaha thanks for letting us know Meshida San. I’ve learnt one more thing on how to communicate to the Japanese now! I did visit China and Korea, my honest opinion is that Japanese civilization, quality of service, politeness are really on a whole different level.
Honestly from the perspective of me as tourist Japan is perfect. Amazing food everywhere, even convenience store food taste pretty great. The subway is so wonderful silent, everything is clean and orderly. 😍 People are so friendly and nice. Then a few years ago I visited South Korea and it was the complete opposite to my Japan experience. Japan will always be in my ❤
"Meshida-sensei, you have three books on the shelf and a RUclips award! You are so smart and successful!" (Are you pleased now?) P.S.: I love the video. No, seriously.
I used to speak broken Japanese to Japanese customers when working at a restaurant, most would appreciate it, except this one time, where the three Japanese women were annoyed and suggesting that I use English instead.
@@kkamiya9038 Who knows? I went to Nikko a few months back. My dad's wife asked for an english tour guide. I can speak conversationally Japanese. Our tour guide looked a little annoyed that I kept asking her stuff in Japanese. She was a volunteer, so this was her english practice.
Meshida-San, I will respect your lolicon cultures and praise your country's beautiful temples. Heck, I will even go as far as to humble myself before Nami Sensei and Eri Sama. But I can never say that Japan is the best country in Asia before I wake up one morning to find myself in the Xinjiang Re-Education Camp. 😅 Kumenasai! 🙇♂️🙇♂️🙇♂️
As a baka gaijin who lives in a 'tourist area' of the Eastern US, we also have another thing that foreigners do that makes us happy- perhaps you wonderful people in Japan can understand and enjoy as well- We love it when foreigners spend all their money and go HOME.
I’m very stuck in my ways, I’ve been to Singapore and Thailand and never used chopsticks. I always ask for a fork. So I think the Japanese wouldn’t be happy with me. ❤
We spent a week in Osaka and a week in Tokyo on a holiday once. I thought that Tokyo people were much more mysterious than Osaka people. Osaka people were much more open. One of them - on a train - ask me what I thought of my prime minister. Unfortunately I did not know him personally so I couldn't give a very good answer.😁
All these advices are also applicable to your online relationships with the Japanese community and Japanese gamers. I play a lot of MMORPG in the Japanese servers, as many titles such as Dragon Quest and until recently Phantasy Star, never make it to the West. You would not believe how friendly and warm the Japanese community can be, and how accepting of you they can become, if you follow Meshida-sensei´s advice. Try to write in Japanese, even if you have to use basic sentences in rōmaji, or google translate, be humble and ready to praise those players who take interest in you, allow them to teach you Japanese, something they absolutely love to do, and thank them and act impressed even if you already knew some of the words, and do not be boastful if they praise you or encourage you. Before you know it, you will get plenty of friend requests, party invites, and even allowed to join groups and clans that usually do not accept foreginers. All they ask for, really, is that you respect the fact that you are a guest in their server, and they can be very gracious hosts if you are humble as their guest.
I was thinking about this recently...and I think the _type_ of praise is important too! To praise someone about an aspect of their culture that's a famous stereotype might seem superficial and insincere ...but to praise them about something ordinary and relatable might sound like you're really you're really interested...and that would leave a better impression I think. :) Also, Meshida...not everyone is as talented and funny as you! ...if I try to make people laugh, they always end up confused or annoyed instead 🤣
Either Meshida-sensei is offering wonderful advice, or he's the best troll ever by successfully teaching us all to call ourselves idiots in Japanese. Either way, he has my respect 😭
I'm glad I was already on the right path. Also Kens scenes were really great in this. I just love that goof ball he has just a great way on making me laugh. I also wanted to say that I love your Pikachu shirt which I think we have it here from the Pokemon store site. But this was before I even met my girl I had a pride in both my country and yours. I just wish I could find a pin for my shirt that has both my flag and yours back to back. Which I'll also be honest with you but it's repeating myself I don't really care about Korean things and I've NEVER been a fan of China. However before I just looked at them as "well cares right?" but it wasn't until a a few years ago that I really started to hate them. But not so much South Koreans. See a few years ago my church had a South Korean girl with her living with the pastor of my church. She was a good kid and her real family wasn't too bad. So it's not all but I think you get what I mean.
6:01 so you tellin' me, i get to ask questions, and actually get information, and people *won't* think I'm annoying for it? this is awesome! i already love learning, now I get a good excuse to learn ALL the things! (well at least all the things about japan specifically.)
Meshida San, I bought an old kominka, and I live in it while doing renovations. As a consequence, I've learned many things about such houses. Sometimes, Japanese people will say "Wow! You know more about old Japanese houses than I do!" Of course, I know the right answer so I always deny, even if I'm aware they know absolutely nothing about kominkas 😂
This was a really fun video. Comedians always have great insights into human nature. I feel like a lot of these apply to people everywhere (maybe in slightly different ways), but it’s cool seeing it presented from a Japanese perspective
Saw the shorts of the "3 comments to remember" but thank you for the long form video. Because of Meshida-san, I've started learning Japanese on Duolingo and I'm on a 49 day streak. Thank you Meshida-san. 🙇♂🙇♂🙇♂
Basically, treat them like children. 🤔 I-I mean, I am amazed that Japanese people are so patient and love to teach foreigners so they don't embarrass themselves..! 😍 They are so helpful! Ok, I think I'm ready for my trip now. Wait, I mean, I have no idea what I'm doing, because baka gaijin desu..! Please teach me Japanese-person-sensei! 🙏🏻😁😁 Haha, did I do it right? 😝
Just to add to those three phrases Meshida San mentioned saying "suimasen" - excuse me or I'm sorry helps a lot too. No if you must speak English speak in perfect "Engirishu" instead of saying, "eat lunch" say "iito lanchi" or "durinku wota" not "drink water" so just add a vowel after the English word and you're good to go.
Been to Japan many times, from Kobe to Shuzenji and all the way to Wakanai. I've never had a bad experience. All the locals that I have met are really nice people.🥰 For example, a bookstore owner (a lady) in Kanda, Tokyo gave me an umbrella because it was raining outside. In Sendai, I asked, using very poor Japanese, a mother for direction to the Miyaki Museum of Arts, and it turned out that she drove me home, made me lunch, then drove me to the museum with her child. We had good time together. So I have to sort of disagree with you, Meshida san. Also, I have been to China and Korea, Japan indeed is the best. Of course it's only my personal experience. 🙂
this made me laugh too!! Damn, I thought I was the only one feeling depressed about doing everything right... the wrong way. xD
