Yes it is a historic movie.
The film is an account on the legend of Rani Padmini(Deepika) a legendary Hindu Rajput queen, mentioned in Padmavat an epic poem. According to Padmavat, she was the wife of Rana Rawal Ratan Singh(Shahid Kapoor)the Rajput ruler of Mewar. In 1303, Alauddin Khilji(Ranvir Singh)the Turkic ruler of the Delhi Sultanate, laid siege to the Chittor Fort in Rajputana. According to Padmavat, Khilji led the invasion motivated by his desire to capture Rani Padmini. Rani Padmini is said to have committed jauhar (self-immolation) to protect her honour.

Im Anju omg I saw this documentary on places in India that even Indians don't know about (meaning the places are very old and hard to find, but the " legends" are real). This guy was the host is was a whole series but the first or second ep was this very story. When I saw the video start I was like....wait? Is this? SHES GONNA JUMP INTO A HUGE FIRE GUYS!!!!!! So I scrolled down to see if I was right because I don't speak Hindi so I didn't know what was said. I won't watch it cuz I'm super sensitive. Just watching the documentary ep had me in tears. But this is an amazing story of a wicked brave woman.

You're missing a very important part. She committed Johar to protect herself from the other Rajput King who killed her Rajput King husband. By the time Khilji got to Chittor, it was already in ruins and both the Kings and the Queen along with her ladies were dead. He won Chittor but didn't have the satisfaction of an equal fight.

    Here's the story:
The origins of the legend of Rani Padmini can be traced to the epic poem Padmavat, written by Malik Muhammad Jayasi.
The movie is based on the 14th Century siege of the Chittor fort when emperor Alauddin Khilji attacked Rajasthan in a bid to capture the beautiful queen, Padmini.
However, legend goes, before Alauddin's troops could reach the Chittor fort, Rani Padmini, along with a hundred other Rajput women, committed Jauhar. Jauhar was the Hindu custom of self-immolation that groups of women used to commit in order to avoid rape or imprisonment by enemy forces.

That's where the song Deewani Mastani that you previously reacted to. They also did a movie together which is basically the Indian Romeo and Juliet, called Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela. I would recommend you watch a song from this movie called Ang Laga De. It's a very pretty mv with both Ranveer and Deepika in it. Another good song to watch is Lahu Manh Lag Gaya

Utkarsh Kirti lol Red is the most hated colour in the saffronist Hindutva camp today thanks to a heroic south Indian state. And btw almost half of India is Non-Hindu. Adivasis and half of Dalits are not Hindus while it's clear the population of Muslims and Christians is severely underestimated. This became a big joke in Coastal Andhra few years back when Church congregations were found to have a combined 10 lakh believers while Census recorded barely 2 lakh christians in the region.

Red is an auspicious color and is associated with festive occasions hence you see it often . So is orange , yellow ,pink although these Colors are not considered or worn as much as red!!
Secondly this movie is set in 1300s hence the historical vibe , which I am glad directors are using for movies , because 5000+ yrs of Indian history has loads of stories that the world needs to know and educate themselves with.
Nose ring - no it doesn't hurt ...it's the same as tongue piercing, or piercing on any other part of the bod ...whilst it may look heavy it isn't heavy to wear ..and remember those elaborate nose piercings are not worn every day but because she is the queen , she is decked up. Jewelry worn by her reflects craftsmanship of clothes, architecture, traditions from the part of India this movie tells a story about ( Rajasthan )

You are right about a lot of things:
    1. The story will be driven by the antagonist.
    2. Since this is based in a historical novel of the 15th century, based in the 13th century, the charachters would be stark, but the director is known for gray characters.
    3. The director has several signatures: red colour against dark background, shot of the female protagonist running in slow motion highlighting her vulnerability/ grace/ beauty/ urgency, BEAUTIFUL sets with drapes/ fire elements/ theatrical lights, overhead shot, conflicted characters, star crossed or jilted lovers...

But alas it's their channel and it's their choice what they like to do but can't help but feel disgusted they played the Indian RUclips viewers for 'Business' 💅

He wanted to win the queen. The good king and his army fought for their queen but lost the battle and died. When the bad king was coming to get the queen, the queen and other women of that kingdom jumped into the fire and sacrificed their lives. At last the bad king did not get the queen.

surbhi sah yeah...the way it's presented in the sweet matter in korean dramas n movies..they R good..n THEY have a plot n the manner of speech is what I like...unlike in india...but i was a HUGE BOLLYWOOD FREAK UNTIL YEARS AGO.. but Hollywood and other Asian n even southindian..make so much sense.. mujhae pasand nahi yaar bollywood..kitna zyada ab movies ko kuch bhi samaj hi nahi hota..zyaada sirf romance n songs toh!!(n many young kids r also the viewers. bollywood movies poora india dektha hai ..toh u can't just do movies with explicit content...its really sad) idk about korea..but in india actors n movies n songs r so famous. On an overall almost everyone one will know the actors name cause they r like famous all over the huge country...so lots of people see the movies n get influenced..so they much atleast do it in a orderly manner. It's just so sad..there r amazing songs with best vocals...but the videos r so bad! I'm so sorry..its just im not comfortable with such movies..

In this movie he even had to have psychological help after the shoot to get out of the character. I mean respect yaarr

This movie is based on Padmavati, the Queen. She was the most beautiful lady of her time the Rajput married her when he heard about her beauty and brought her home. Later another ruler Khilji, also heard about her beauty and demands to see her, when he saw her his obsessions increased and ask Rajput King to give Padmavati to him. Rajput didn't so Khilji attacked him.
Padmavati got the news of death of her husband and performed Jauhar with all the other ladies of the palace. Jauhar was a ritual performed by most Queens and their female servants, whose husbands had been killed in the battle, to save themsleves from rape and sexual distortion by the army of wining side.

Padmini, also known as Padmavati, was a legendary 13th-14th century Indian queen (Rani). The earliest source to mention her is Padmavat, an epic poem written by Malik Muhammad Jayasi in 1540 CE. The text, which features elements of fantasy, describes her story as follows: Padmavati was an exceptionally beautiful princess of the Singhal kingdom (Sri Lanka). Ratan Sen, the Rajput ruler of Chittor, heard about her beauty from a talking parrot named Hiraman. After an adventurous quest, he married her and brought her to Chittor. Alauddin Khalji, the Sultan of Delhi also heard about her beauty, and attacked Chittor to obtain her. Meanwhile, Ratan Sen was killed in a combat with Devpal, the king of Kumbhalner who was also enamoured with Padmavati's beauty. Before Alauddin Khalji could capture Chittor, Padmavati and her companions committed Jauhar (self-immolation) to protect their honour.
