I'm 61 years old and I ride a Boosted Mini X electric board. When I was 18, I bought the Moto-Board , a 2-cycle motorized skateboard sold to me used from 17th Street Surf Shop in Virginia Beach. I used to be on their skateboard team so I got a few percent discount but it was $300 in 1979 money which is was a whole lot. I had so much fun with that board! It was worth every penny to me. It sounded like a chainsaw and had a 26cc engine and chain drive to one rear wheel. It was noisy and would do 20 MPH with the muffler attached and 25 MPH without the muffler. Loose dogs would love to chase me down the street. Sometimes I'd have four or five of them at a time chasing. One day I ran out of gas doing that. Adrenalin sports. One day I noticed an empty glass pocket flask bottle of Jack Daniels on the side of the road. I took that and made it my extended range top off fuel supply. People would be interested in the board and come up to talk when I stopped to rest and I'd say "it runs on Jack Daniels" and pull the flask out of my pocket and top it off. A lot of them really believed that it ran on Jack Daniels. One day I was in a school yard parking lot with some friends and a rough looking older guy came up and started bullying us. He asks me "what's that in your back pocket". I pulled the flask out and held it up label side facing him. He yells "gimme that" and grabbed it out of my hand, opened the cap and guzzled a bunch of it. I tried so hard to stifel my laugh while that guy just suffered gagging on the two stroke fuel mixture.
I definitely need to see that because I always wanted one when I was a kid like to just put a lawn mower engine on my ninja turtle skateboard😂😂
Another honest review. I can’t afford these things, nor do I have a need for one, but glad to see someone sticking to their roots
Chris, Really enjoy the product reviews especially when you're out and about on something electric powered and we get to see your neighbourhood. I always find it interesting as i'm in the UK.
Meepo Mini 2 owner here. Thank you for this video review. I sure as shit won’t be upgrading. Thank you for saving me from wasting money.
Seems like that is a bit strange on the wheel tightening. If it was me making those I would make them so that forward motion is tightening the wheel. I appreciate your honest reviews Chris! Jen and Gus to the rescue! As always thank you and thumbs UP!! 👍💯
Yeah but what if you go down very steep hill and suddenly the wheels fall off and you got no brakes any longer? We have very steep hills here in Taipei and I put a lot of trust on these breaks… I probably shouldn’t but…
Fingers crossed they change how those wheels are fitted anyway, this is why RUclips reviews are worth watching
Nice 1 Chris 👌
I did the skateboard thing back in the 70s years before the 2 strokes came out, at that time you didn't see anything bigger than 50 or 55 mm mm and you certainly weren't going on gravel, 15 miles is a good long ways on a skateboard
Awesome review, & I'm right there with you, I want to be able to attach or hang the board to a backpack so I can use it on trips when I travel to different countries etc. & I love that you included the fix for the wheel
Good afternoon Chris and Jen.. Pumping out the videos Chris!!
Afternoon Richard!
Love the content
I've never gotten into skateboarding. However I've found every review you've done very intriguing. You didn't disappoint with this one Thanks Chris ! Godspeed
I appreciate that!
And appreciate you checking the video out even though you're not into skating
These esk8 are currently one of the best mini board out there. Got mine some months ago and really after using them.
If they're a company worth using not only will they fix this issue they'll send you a fixed version of this board to test out. And a letter thanking you for all the lawsuits they didn't get.
china =/
Honesty about the product is always good C! Yeah the other board design looks a little better with the added back and the lights! We used to have a killer clear fiber glass skateboard back in the day with a clear red hot rod looking wheels!.....wonder where it went.
That's a nice sencer review!
Thank you for a good video keep them coming
I got quite a scare watching this video. I was multi-tasking in my kitchen, making supper with my toaster oven in between glances over at my PC screen. You were cruising along at what seemed like break-neck speed in that cemented area while the skate boarding music played in the background.
I was looking back at my toaster, when all of a sudden, the music stopped and I heard a sound like someone falling off a cliff into a deep chasm. The sound was like someone screaming as their voice faded into the distance.
I thought, Oh my god! We've lost NNKH. Looking back at my screen in horror, I realized I was watching a combat video game advertisement inserted into your product review. Whew, that was a close one.
Man remember the rubber front stoping bumper on rolling skates.. put u 1 or 2 of those on the back bottom..might help that kick up
Full on testing 😊
That wheel issue seems pretty common with meepo. I ordered a 105 hub motor+donut kit and the same thing happened to my hub motors. Very dangerous
I'm not much of a skateboard guy but good review for those into this type of boarding.
I appreciate the raw uncut review style you have going here, most RUclipsrs nowadays follow some sort of script, it just feels a tiny bit superficial of course you gotta do what you gotta do to make a presence tho am I right?
They still have the Meepo mini 2s on their website, looks like the one to get.
Hey from New Zealand!! I purchased a onsra challenger e skate. You have go to get yourself one!
Thanks for your review man, lots of good info. I wonder what are the true benefits of this new version over the outgoing mini 2S, except for the design language which is obviously subjective. Remote is definitely a downgrade... The wheel problem looks like your typical QC issue on prototypes so I'm not worried Meepo is gonna fix that asap
Love all these electric boards, bought a onewheel pint and a g2 backfire. I'm looking into something small I can get around my uni with; they get pissed off when you have big electric boards in halls and I never like leaving my boards outside.
Even brand new items need repairing these days, great review
upssss!!!! They will make sure it doesn't happen again. All the best.
So happy to see a single enclosure on this;
need to retrofit existing decks: intensifies*
Love My Mini2 ER! Almost 2 years and over 200miles on the remotes OD going strong. And i'm 47yrs old 6'3 250lbs of PPeralta/Hawk-Old/School. That thing hauls my big ass like i'm not even on it! Even up bridges! I have to agree with your review. I don't like a thing about the replacement. I've got a way better premium remote with lighted digital screen, better brakes, better wheels, digital power gauge, Powerbank charger for phones/laptop etc, And the deck even looks better. I've taken her through crazy terrain and puddles also and never had a wheel fall off or ANY issues whatsoever. Fastest i've ever gone was 23mph and I had to back off. At my age and weight if I fall something will break and it won't be the board!
I love my Mini 2 but a downhillers foot stop is very much needed. With the foot stop I feel locked in especially during a hard brake.
Looks cool. But the bad roads we have here. I couldn't rode it. Thanks though. Keep up the great work
Been using the mini 2s for a year or so super regularly in an Urban environment and gotta say I completely disagree ab the tail or how high it comes up. It's actually a blessing to be able to kick it up and catch it like a skateboard rather than bend over to pick up the 20 lb thing. Also super useful to be able to kick turn sharp turns around a corner or other situations. Also never had it be a problem while riding, you can shift your foot an inch closer to the center of the board and effectively remove any kick tail issue you might have.
To each their own!
The tail is awesome to have no doubt. But it should be longer. I have a Enskate shortboard which has a longer tail and it is a game changer. Anyway, short tail is better than no tail
@@NNKH2 agreed, tail is indispensable. For me a shorter form factor is among the biggest selling points so I'm happy with it as is haha
Chris you should really try a Boosted board v2 plus. They have the vanguard Loaded bamboo deck and carve so damn nice. The power band and the feel is like a german car. Yes they're out of business but the used market is hot and you can find so many replacement parts if needed. I was big into the local eskate scene and have a lot of experience with different boards and most people stuck with Boosted because of the ride and feel of them....there's nothing that compares. These hub motor designs ride harsh.
I'm getting a little old for high risk recreation, but am still quite interested in easily carried devices, that, for example, can be carried onto a public bus, and that are faster than walking. Do they splash you in the rain?
I had the same thing happen to me on my meepo v5 ER’s 5th ride. This really doesn’t seem that uncommon which is why I returned mine and bought a belt drive board.
If I can’t feel safe with a preflight I’m not riding it. This is crazy.
Penny pinch model is how this reads to me.
Yeah kind of seems that way doesn't it. Like a money grab. Cut corners. Inferior product compared to the mini 2
Hey I'm this video is ancient now but could you tell us what tool you used to get the wheels off?
Next time, strap the extra board to your back in case of a breakdown like the one you had.
Great review!
God Bless
😎
4:00 Wait, so it's using the Meepo Mini Dual remote?
No digital info screen...
Hi, did u tried Exway Wave? i wonder how it compares to those two Meepos
Wouldn’t work today in Detroit! Seven inches of snow!!!!
Imagine if they had a left-handed thread on that wheel... they do it on bicycle bottom brackets for this exact reason...
I was wondering if he was going to mention that chunk out of the tire.
What app are you using? I recently got the mini 3s and i cant seem to figure out how to connect to the ride app
When meepo says 28mph u can hit it, but you have to do it on a fresh battery because of voltage sag.
I agree. Sketchy on a shortboard though
@@NNKH2 Yeah, when the mini stops or crashes from the wobbles at 15+mph, you just keep flying. i usually stay between 13-18 for work commutes. Hit the pavement once and learned fast.
Still no built in lights, I'm gonna wait for Exway wave 2
No idea those things could go over that rougher stuff
I have a few mini2s. They all have 1000+ miles. Great board and this board seems like more of the same. I love Meepo but I'll probably get their V5 when it comes out and skip this one.
Throw it out, get an Exway Wave instead. At least they don`t fall apart on their own. Plus you got all the lighting you need, batteries you can just swap on the go for 300 a pop and a decent belt drive system with real wheels under your feet. For commute in the city, if and when you plan on getting on a train or subway every once in a while you just can`t beat that lil board imho.
Sadly it seems that some companies have amazing products to build a name, then live off the name while streamlining their profits using cheaper guts. I know I've told you before and you'll disagree but Optima did this when they moved manufacturing to Mexico. I was the biggest optima fan boy until my last 2 red tops took a shit at the 2 year mark, then I went online and it wasn't just me. Love all your content brother!
who do you recc as a successor to meepo?
I'm currently using the mini 2 ER but it has over 1800 miles on it and it's time to start thinking about a backup board.
So with the break mode you have to pull back on the break while stopped and hit the mode button this will show you which break level your at while riding. also your crazy for not wearing any protection my man haha, one slip at 25 mph.... especially with that wheel coming off! stay safe my man! I do reviews on these boards and I have the v5 review coming out soon as well
Thanks for the info!
@@NNKH2 no problem also I’m located in jersey would love to meet up or have you come over for a group ride in the spring summer time!
What brand of light is on your mini 2?
Hola saludos desde CDMX de 🇲🇽🥶👍 la patineta es China
I never rode skate boards and am now too old for them, however I still enjoyed your video. What was that area with all the buildings removed you were riding at. It looked like a big factory.
It's across the river from Trenton. It used to be a corn syrup plant
My dad is in his 50s and rides them, obviously depends what age you class at too old
Does the mini 5 light up when charging
What's the battery AH capacity on this anyway?
😊😊😊😊 hey man I just got the same board and had the same issue. Did the bond and tightening thing work out at all? How’s it holding up so far?
Yeah red loctite did the trick. Holding up great. I actually did an update video on it as well on the NNKH MISC channel.
How has your wheel been holding up? the same thing happened to me on new mini 2s er. Same wheel too
Haven't had a problem again yet. The loctite seems to be holding up
How that wheel sleeve fell off is shocking!
That was kinda risky
But good practice before fully running an eskate you should always test it.
lol 13:41 is loctite enough?
Haha
New Meepo's beginner boards are not an upgrade from the previous beginner models, in case of this Mini 5 is a huge downgrade , no battery percentage on the battery, no display on the remote, wheels that are falling apart.
Yeaa unfortunately that seems to be the case here. Unless they switch things up
Chris, are they secretly using you for R&D?
🤙🏼⚡⚡🤙🏼
*Shredder trucks are "copies" of the more well known Bear Kodiak truck*
Thanks for the info man!
@@NNKH2 no problem, i like the videos man, proper ride testin and talkin about real issues 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Meepos new design language is sexy
Do this ship to Ireland?
Twenty eight mph that’s all I can do on my old little Indian mini bike!!!!! Scared to do that! My adult kids go much faster. My son has one like your original boards I’ll have to show him this!
Perfect example of “newer isn’t always better”…
Hopefully the Meepo Flow is better
Gus ❤❤
3amp charger, nice.
What app are you using for the MPH?
Ulysses
What's the 5 ton update?
I sold it
The Wheel fell off It fell off !!!!!! Ron White has a funny skit on that
Funky town esk weeeee
It looks like a guy could convert an old school board into one of these by bolting the hardware and trucks on.
Had one...range was solid. Torque was there. Only con is the street wheels, they tear up really easy
Hit 50 on this thing down a hill, scary af
What is the specs? No different between 2S?
Pretty much the same
@@NNKH2 It's actually worst, Mini 5 18 miles and 2 ER 20 miles. And those crappy hub risky AF
isnt the mini 5 still NDA?
Made in CHHINA!!!!!!!
Are they waterproof
No. Water resistant
I think they have cheaped out..
IT has another guy impersonating your character
Who does
lol brutal
Bigger Cross 4WD tires, handlebar (like kickscooters) with all controls (left and right yellow blinking leds etc etc). App to slow down the speed or the Watts of the motor for the country regulations (Switzerland is the country with such regulations : impossible to drive such devices on the road like a bicycle as there's Police almost everywhere). IP68 and 1 click exchanged battery Sodium-Ion so we can take the small and light board inside airplanes. Such devices MUST be re-invented as they are actually boring and nothing new.
Seems like a lot of abandoned buildings in your area.
I always think the same thing when I watch NNKH vids. Makes me jealous thinking that Chris gets screaming deals on real estate and commercial properties. [shakes fist] -lol
So many places to explore.
Make your own.. take your "normal" board and mount the trucks and the rest of the stuff from your MEEPO..
More usable?
The short tail and noose is a no for me. 🙂
it's possible, though for this kind of riding, it's better kept to longboards.
Form an opinion and _then_ read the instructions. 🙃🙂
No name parts, wheels falling off. Seems there quality is seriously dropping. Profit over quality.
I said on another video that meepo needs to fire their designer. They have an identity crisis going on. This board isn’t a step forward but more like two steps stale.
That could had made Jen Very Sad & Very, Very Rich🫣. Glad that Wasn’t a Child like my Grandson, I started looking them up as soon as you opened the Video and already owned one. Thinking it was a good Breed, now I can’t Buy One. Sucks but glad I watch, I watch all your stuff and I’m not a Mechanic either. Catch you on the next one, Keep it Safe Out There, ……..Seriously, after that, be Damned Careful!😂🤣
No helmet?
I recommend one yeah
It’s a shame they’ve made their V series of boards and mini series of boards their absolute budget boards, that are actually downgraded in many ways from their older boards.
Omg after watching this i would never buy that other then rocks will chey up the rear inner wheel ups like totally fail to this board and its the only trick style nice electric board on the market. Sad
🚬🚬🚬🚬🚬🚬🚬🚬🚬🚬
Not sure what this video recommends, but DO NOT BUY MEEPO. I have been a customer for 5 years, there ESC randomly stops working, causing extremely dangerous situations when you suddenly cant break! They used to be good with customer service, but after telling them about this issue they completely left me out to dry. The company has gotten too big it would seem, the days of dealing with a passionate skateboarder are gone. Completely profit driven with no support, and faulty dangerous boards. I have always recommended Meepo, but I will never buy from them again! Removing their sticker from my helmet as we speak, the only thing with their name on it that actually works.
MADE IN CHINA
fake as hell
?
Guess this is your first time seeing my videos if you think I would fake anything. Of course you didn't really specify anyway.
Comper to electric cycle on this channel this sket bord way rich 26 mile is faster than cycle 😮😮😮
$100 discount code for all meepo skateboards: v100
Anything with a hand held remote control sucks . Onewheels and EUC are what’s up . The riding experience isn’t comparable. Don’t waste your time with all the shitty 4 wheels with hand held remotes , truly inferior.
Couldn't disagree more. Those are useless if they ever break or the battery dies. You have a big heavy weight you got to carry home. The skateboard stays functional even with a dead battery
@@NNKH2 carry home ? My EUCs have 70-90 mile range .I’ve never seen below 25 percent battery, ever . But most importantly, The riding experience is superior . It’s not even close . The hand held is lame as fuck , in comparison . Replacing gravity with electricity and accelerating and decelerating from body movement….. vs standing on a big remote control car . From agility , speed , torque, and jumping ….. EUC is the best in every category .
To each their own. I prefer something that can be used with or without a battery. Electric bike, scooter, skateboard. One day you're going to be carrying that thing home when it has some sort of failure and you'll be thinking of me. Lol.
The skateboard doesn't rely on electronics to balance. That's a big selling point for me
@@NNKH2 fair enough, I’m all electric . Ill never ride a bike electric or not , because of the handle bars . I’ll never ski or snowboard or surf again. I’ve done all of them since age 5 , when I started skiing. All do not compare and are so inconvenient and expensive [ because of travel} euc can go to mountains snow , the desert sand , and the city concrete. I have a charger that weighs maybe a pound in my bag and I live in the city with places to charge . A once in lifetime where there is a battery issue or whatever , I’ll take a cab that one time .
So yeah , we are definitely after something different, I respect that you are going natural but I’m over it ☺️. The euc is like being half robot , It’s not like riding, it’s like moving through space as a single entity .
