Henry seems like a good kid...one day he will remember working with dad on old tractors as a fond memory. I remember working with my dad on old tractors , trucks & whatever needed fixing on the farm... By the time I took shop in high school , it was a breeze . My shop teacher allowed me to take on big jobs like rebuilding engines , welding , ect .. My dad was a hydraulic expert & I could read prints & trouble shoot at a young age.. That skill got me my first real job & it was all because my dad loved to teach & I loved learning about mechanical things..

My dad was an auto and diesel mechanic. When he was growing up in Brooklyn he knew a deaf man who could adjust the engine by placing his hand on the fender. He knew from the vibrations if it was running smoothly or not

Would that little tractor be a good choice for running the sickle-bar cutter for reaching beneath the fences for keeping those groomed? That could become a good Henry job to get used to the feel of a tractor. That's great that he's taking an interest in that little ol' girl.
It's good that Henry has an interest in Mechanics.... I started at his age at a Gulf Gas Station behind our house. The owner, Joe Maider had a Wrecker, he raced Stock Cars he could teach anyone anything they wanted to know. My dad didn't like me spending all my time down there... but there was 4 vehicles in our Family and I got to take care of them all in the 60's.... Later I went Automotive School in Rhode Island...! =)
My father has been gone almost 15 years. I think back to the 1970s when he taught me to use a moldboard plow, or do maintenance on the equipment, sometimes some choice words putting mounted cultivators on. It was invaluable. He was a good teacher. Pete seems like a good teacher. No matter what Henry does in his life, he'll always remember working with and learning from dad.

The machine is probably getting a better spark at startup and that helps. It seems that the magneto ignition is not as strong a spark for that initial startup... 👍

Treasure your time with your parents Henry. Just as your dad said, time flies by and then they're gone. Learn as much as you can while they are here. By learning what I could from my parents, I find myself not missing them as much. I miss being able to talk with them though I don't really miss them because I, in a sense, am them. I have even found myself telling dad jokes, lol

Usually the first thing that happens when I take the bottom cover off the bell housing of my 140 is I have to clean out mice nests, acorns ect. I'm convinced this is where the Holy Grail will one day be found. I love those off set Farmalls and grew up using a Cub and 140s. I can't get over how much Henry has grown. I don't know if you ever watched the movie FRANKENSTEIN with Gene Wilder, but when he brought FRANKENSTEIN to life he loudly exclaims "ITS ALIVE!" I couldn't help but laugh when it started. All I could think was "ITS ALIVE!" Henry and Pete, have a great evening. 😉😊
When I was a kid, I recall helping my grandfather in his garage. One of the tasks I remember is using a special spark plug cleaner to freshen the plugs. You inserted the spark end into a rubber opening and stepped on a pedal that would be like a sandblaster to clean the plug.
Glad to see Henry getting involved in the tractor repair. Not only spending time with your dad which is priceless but learning how to help your dad as he ages.
2:20 - Atta boy Henry!!!! It is good to help your Dad, some day he won't be there (hopefully a long time away) and you will treasure these times, he is/can/will teach you stuff schools would be totally unable to do and many, many times that third (or fourth) hand is a God send! The man has a rare trait for today, common sense, learn that also. It is also good to bust his chops, often if possible. I am an old man, 81 now, and still treasure my memories, even copying him walking 70 or more years ago.
Although he won’t fully appreciate it for another 25 years, the teaching moment you just shared, will live with him and be a memory between a father and son that he will always be able to recall, and be ready to eagerly share with his children, or anyone willing to listen!
Hi Pete! Ken here from Nova Scotia. I’m kinda having a little chuckle to myself here. When I was Henry age I swore I would not ever like my dad. Dad jokes and just coming up with things to make my kids laugh. I’ll say something now and am like, oh my gosh, there it is. Guess really it’s not so bad. My dad lives in me the same as I live in what my boys say and do. Life’s circle. It’s great you and Henry are doing that project together.

Now that Henry knows how to start and run the Super A it will get more use. Even if it is just joy riding out in the fields, try to think of it as home school Driver's Ed. Good to see you two wrenching together, I fondly look back on those days when I come home from school and Dad from the mill just to go out into the backyard to try to bring some recalcitrant hunk of junk he got in trade back to working order. He never had much spending money, but I think he had a sense of achievement when he fixed equipment others gave up on.
That's right about the Driver's Ed comment. I learned how to shift gears with a clutch on a old Farmall A with the offset steering shaft. Even though I didn't learn how to shift up or down while moving due to lack of syncros, I was able to master the clutch and shifter enough to make my transition to a car as seamless as possible.
You gotta make sure you get that pointer around... 🤣 I love that you're able to do these things with your children. I sure miss those days with my dad. Great video!

You might not think washing and cleaning the tractor is uninteresting ... but for some viewers invested in your project, there's nothing more refreshing than seeing the tractor cleaned. Maybe it's my OCD. :) It doesn't have to be long, but a couple minutes seeing the tractor go from dirty to clean would be the cherry on top. Just a thought. No biggie. More importantly, it's great to see you pass down your wisdom, knowledge, passion to your son.
I love seeing all of those Farmalls lined up in your barn. I started using a Farmall H on the farm when I was about Henry's age. I remember my dad teaching me to work on things the way you and Henry work together. it brings back good memories of my dad who has been gone almost twenty years now. Treasure the time with Henry, he will be grown and out on his own in the blink of an eye.

Henry, I started as a very skinny, long-legged, 12-year-old girl on one of those. That's how I learned to drive! Days like this one, Henry, will be your private memories when you reach 75! I can still see and hear myself plowing the garden and hauling stuff on that old tractor. Granted in the late '50s in Ohio it was a John Deere, but it was the same. I also chased cows and bulls on that little tractor. LOL Yes, those days were good ones. Thanks for sharing Pete. PS: You did say that one cow was Patti's offspring once. So, Patti's in the barn!

Hi Pete, here’s some “Dad jokes” for Henry. What’s orange and sounds like a parrot? A carrot. I took up origami for a while but I had to give it up !!! Too much paperwork. Why did the invisible man turn down the job offer? He couldn’t see himself doing it. Did you hear about the restaurant on the moon ? The food was great but no atmosphere. I slept like a log last night I woke up in the fireplace. A great little tractor. My first tractor, when I was 9 years old, I learned to drive and learn the standard transmission. We used this for raking hay, cultivating corn in the summer and my grandfather used it for his garden. We have a single bottom plow for this also. I am the same way about parting with this tractor, it doesn't get as much use anymore.
That was fun. I like the rapport between you and Henry. Knowing at my place it is -10° (-137°C haha) See you working without gloves made my fingers hurt. Our neighbor uses a Super A to saw and split wood. Just a thought.

Well that's another good lesson for Henry, he sure will take a lot of fond memories with him from this, I know I did with my dad during those types of lessons. lost knowledge for many, did much the same with old Massies and Fordsons.. great to see a youngster taking interst .. usually life gets in way ,but many return to their roots and dredge out that old knowlege.. old trucks , boat motors and tractors and heavy horse ..
I remember a few years ago, looking around my place and I saw all these nice Apple products - I sold my Apple Macbook air for about 1000 bucks . Sold it to a man for his college aged daughter. Felt like a good sale , I had a perfectly fine iPad Pro, which I use even today . I realized as lovely as some of these products are I don’t need so many of them, so yeah, maybe get rid of that tractor might be hard to do but take a few good pictures with it ! Maybe donate it to a young family in need you never know !

I think one of the most appealing things about that old equipment is the fact that the average guy can still work on them.

A great little tractor. My first tractor, when I was 9 years old, I learned to drive and learn the standard transmission. We used this for raking hay, cultivating corn in the summer and my grandfather used it for his garden. We have a single bottom plow for this also. I am the same way about parting with this tractor, it doesn't get as much use anymore.

lost knowledge for many, did much the same with old Massies and Fordsons.. great to see a youngster taking interst .. usually life gets in way ,but many return to their roots and dredge out that old knowlege.. old trucks , boat motors and tractors and heavy horse ..
I love how Pete talks through the process and narrates what he is doing, I find myself watching the video and saying, "Oh I get it, that make sense!"

I remember a few years ago, looking around my place and I saw all these nice Apple products - I sold my Apple Macbook air for about 1000 bucks . Sold it to a man for his college aged daughter.
Felt like a good sale , I had a perfectly fine iPad Pro, which I use even today .
I realized as lovely as some of these products are I don’t need so many of them, so yeah, maybe get rid of that tractor might be hard to do but take a few good pictures with it !
Maybe donate it to a young family in need you never know !
Some of my best memories are with my dad and grandpa learing how to fix anything awesome work!
