When I did everything right and saw there was some play in the cassette, I said to myself that's gotta be normal but I wasn't 100% sure until seeing your explanation, thank you🙂
Thank you for this. I've been working on swapping my SX Eagle cassette for an NX Eagle cassette as part of my GX upgrade. I noted this wiggle in my cassette, and thought I needed a spacer under the cassette or something, but nothing I tried corrected it. After watching this video, I removed the cassette and checked the freehub. Sure enough, the freehub itself had the wiggle in it. Not sure how this will impact shift quality, but I'm glad that I figured out the cause and can stop pulling my hair out!
The freehub on my 2003 Mavic Cosmos rear wheel has had play for years now. Doesn't appear to affect riding but it's always bugged me so I finally took it off and apart to see what if anything could be done. Turns out that nothing can be done. I cleaned everything, relubed the pawls, regreased the races and ball bearings, put it all back together, and still the same play. Either the ball bearings or two thin washers prevent the end cap from being screwed on tight enough to remove the play. Probably the washers because if it was the bearings as with old-style cup and cone hubs then there would need to be a second lock nut to prevent the end cap from being set either too tight or too loose. The washers probably set a predetermined tightness that's neither too loose nor too tight, thus the play.
I like how I get this video right when I wonder why my new microshift group set has play. But I’m still gonna check if it’s the free hub that’s a bit loose
My cassette is wobbeling a bit and it made some wierd sounds. I got the same cassette on my bike, i checked the axel, but i wasn't bent and i dont know what the cause may be. If you have any idea pls tell me
Thank you. This answers LOTS of questions. Therefore, I can ignore it and go ride.
This is so helpful now I know why my r8, advent, and advent x cassettes are like that. Keep making durable drivetrains!!

Thank you 😅 i just “Rebuild” a Scott cortessa scale 730 for my yunger sister and i was scared that the hub was done for
Thanks a lot! Very helpful
If the hub is ball Bearing normally it has a little play but if the hub uses sealed bearing there is no play on freehub or cassette
Mavic Rattle of DEATH has entered the chat

Yeaaaa... I think I'm missing a cog 💀 it broke while riding
thanks boss, im anxious about this issue of my deore hub. i repacked the hub but there's still a wiggle.
The cheap stuff has play? My Chris King’s and Hydra’s have zero slop!
Nice video brother
Thank you soo much 😵
short answer ,because the hub is shimano .
Your words not ours.
But am I good to ride though because it’s affecting the performance
Shouldn't affect performance unless there's a TON of play. Lots of things to check -- derailleur hanger straightness, B-tension adjustment, etc.

Really hard to say without looking at it. If you think it's an issue with our product, fill out a claim on our website and our techs can take a look.
@@microSHIFTTECH the cassette looks alright, it may be something with the hub or smth
Нужно затянуть конус подшипника и всё.
