“Anderson Window & Door” Does come with a lifetime warranty on parts, I had the same problem issue with The Hinges on My 10-year-old door, Anderson Storm Door, that’s how I found out. That info is probably too late for you, but anyone watching this now might find it helpful. After giving them the information on the sticker inside the door frame & sent a New Complete Hinge/Z-Bar Setup for my Make-Model All w/ NO CHARGE or Shipping! Great video thank you. One note to your subscribers. The Mrs. called the manufacturer regarding the Z-bar to purchase. They told her the z bar on Anderson's doors comes with a lifetime warranty. They sent us the Z-bar free of charge.

Nice instruction video. Just a note for anyone doing this with an original Anderson door--I believe this part is covered in their lifetime warranty. I had the exact same failure and they sent me the part for free.

I just viewed your video after discovering that the hinges had failed on our 3000 series door. I had our door installed almost ten years ago, but from the door misalignment issues beginning at least a year ago. My question to Andersen is," What have they done to improve this design if it a common failure?". I will be calling them tomorrow to order the z-bar kit. There is no reason for these hinges to fail like this. Thank you for your video. well done

@@beachtroll8344 so when I removed the existing z-bar I found that the rod holding the hinges in place had only slid down causing the upper hinge to come loose from the z-bar. I was able to repair by putting the hinge back and pushing the rod back through the hinge. Success! With new screws and a little spit and polish, the door opens and shuts easily. Thanks again!
Our house was built in 1979 and parts are different. No Z Bar but the video gave us the confidence to do each hinge separately. Quite a workout! Thanks for posting this.

Thank you for viewers' comments about lifetime warranty. I just called Anderson Customer Service, I was told that the part is covered under lifetime warrany, and they are shipping it for free. Thank you. Ordered the zbar and had it finished in a couple hours. Next time I’ll call for the free parts first. Have a front door that will need the same repair soon. Thx again. Quite helpful. I put the z bar on the door first, with the door closed mounted the outside screws, then the inside screws. Had to file the zbar a little to get better alignment with preexisting holes.

Thanks for giving me the confidence to take the hinge panel off. My problem was that the frame has became crooked, about 1/4 in narrower at the top than the bottom, making the door stick closed at the top. I just cut and took out some of the shim board the builder put in. But I never really got that bloody trim strip back in properly.

Thanks for posting. Very helpful. I tried repairing the door using a universal hinge pin kit from Amazon, but the hinge bar was too badly damaged. Had to order from Andersen.

The design weakness seems to be the plastic flange bushings that wear and crack over time. On our 20-year-old door, the bushings on the top hinge deteriorated and the misalignment caused the bottom of the door to bind. My first thought was to just replace the bushings. The size is 0.325" OD, with 3/16" a pin hole. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find a stainless part with an outside diameter that precisely matches the size of the plastic ones.
As others have mentioned, a free replacement hinge rail can be obtained by calling the customer service number (have door serial number handy). They asked me to provide photos of the door and purchase receipt. If you don't have an old receipt (who does), then a bill or document that proves residence prior to the time the door was made will suffice. Andersen could save a lot in warranty parts if they would replace those plastic bushings with stainless steel, as that is the only part that wears out.

I'm getting mine free directly from Anderson. That was after getting a new door closer that did nothing to help my door close properly. They are telling me door has a 5 year warranty. Thanks for the video. I hope this will fix my door. It went from working beautifully to not closing to slamming. Now it's closing, but not all the way.

I bought my door in 2010. The hinges are covered under warranty for the life of the door as long as your are the original owner. My new z-bar came today free of charge!

We have this same door, installed 2008. The latch broke last year and Andersen sent me a replacement free thanks to their warranty. Starting to have hinge problems now, so will probably be ordering that Z bar soon.

@@beachtroll8344 Update: I called Anderson, and I gave them the serial number of the "Z" bar. It was a 200 series door, and the "Z" bar has a lifetime warranty, and Anderson sent me one absolutely free. The bottom two hinges of my old "Z" bar were broken. Two of the hinges on the new bar lined exactly, and the other two hinges required me to drill some new holes for the new bar. It came with wood screws for the house door frame, and I used the the self tapping sheet metal screws from the old bar for the new one for the storm door frame. I also had to cut off about two inches with a hack saw to make the bar fit perfectly. It came with plastic trim to hide the screws that would be visible from the outside. It took me a total of about 2 hours from start to finish, and the door closes great (I usually screw up everything I am fixing-lol). Thank you again Beach!

Thank you for sharing your storm door repair of the zbar hinges. I purchased an Andersen storm door from Habitat for Humanity ReStore. Everything worked properly when I looked at it but when I got home and started getting it ready to paint it I discovered one hinge was broken. I did not want to purchase a whole other zbar and searched how to repair and replace the broken hinge. I ended up using the hinge pin from another Andersen zbar and clamping down on the old hinge zbar to close the gap. I saw one video where the bushing of the hinge pin was manipulated to get the pin out but I couldn't do that. It didn't work for me. I realized how the hinge pin was put in and figured out I could pop it out by pushing in on one end to release the spring from the pin in the zbar. (Similar to a watch wristband pin) Easier to fix than to search how to fix it on the web.
You’re welcome....Great ingenuity on fixing your hinge!!...I found out after I replaced mine, Andersen warranties the Z-bar for life...There should be a sticker on the door frame with the Serial # for the door....If you contact Andersen they will send you a new one free of charge...At least you’ll have it on hand if it fails again....Thanks for watching!

I had the same issue after a number of emails and phone calls they finally replaced the z rail at no cost as its covered under warranty. Not sure the aggravation was worth saving the cost of purchasing it directly but hopefully if your having the issue you can get it replaced for free. Good luck

I was able to repair mine. My screen had 3 hinges and had no manufacturing info on it that I could find.
I took 16 penny nails, cut off the heads and used the shafts as a replacement rods for the hinge. To keep the penny's shaft from falling down the tube, I put a self tapping screw about 3/4" down from each hinge to act as a bump stop. I put half of the nail shaft in the top of the hinge and super glued it in place. To insert the hinge, I slid the glued nail shaft in place while the bottom nail shaft was slid up inside the hinge. Once in place, gravity forced the bottom nail shaft to fall and stop on the artificial bump stop. Works incredibly well.

@@volcanoscout Yes, exterior of the hinge, about 3/4" down from the hinge. I tried to place it as discreet as possible. I believe I used the self tapping screws I had on hand for metal studs used in drywall.
I called the manufacturer and no questions asked, took
my info and sent replacement pieces at no charge. Door has a lifetime warranty, have had it 7-8 years.

I just contacted them about the part i needed had it in my shopping cart and said let me read the comments. Boy am i glad i saw this one. Called back and put a warranty claim in. Same as the original person who commented. No questions asked they are going to send a FREE replacement! These doors have a limited lifetime warranty so dont spend any money before trying to put a warranty claim in. Thanks you saved me 60+ bucks!
Just an FYI, Andersen has a lifetime warranty on the Z Bar (Hinge Rail) for the 3000 and 4000 series doors. If you are the original owner (heck, even if you aren't), you can still call them up at the number on their website and provide the serial number of your door. I just called today and they are shipping one for my 5 1/2 year-old 3000 Door. I've already replaced the closures not knowing they were covered for the first 5 years.

Just so you know, Andersen guarantees the part. You may not see the part online as the door is no longer sold. You have to call the parts center. I just received mine FOR FREE. Easy installation.

Yes, my door has 2 hinges. I believe it’s for when the glass is put in due to the weight.

I am having the same problem with the same storm door and just ordered from Anderson a hinge rail, is that the same thing as the z-bar? Also HD wants to charge $125 for installation so I'm extremely happy for your video because I will be doing the installation myself.

The entire Z-Bar needs to be replaced. If you contact Andersen with the door’s serial # they will send a free one.

I found out after I bought my Zbar, that Andersen has a lifetime warranty on the Z-bar....Contact Andersen and they’ll send you a replacement free of cost.
Check to see if your warranty covers it. I'm on my fourth hinge and they have sent them all no charge. Covered under "lifetime warranty". Doesn't hurt to ask.....

beachtroll i saw the website and it does come installed in the zbar. The previous owner of the house I bought removed the door hinges of he zbar instead of removing from the door screws. Now the struggle is real to find those pins. I don’t want to pay 60 for a new zbar at this time. Thanks again for the response
I can't seem to get the door to close. The two strips of weather stripping on the inside of the z-bar prevent the door from closing. It is like when you get something stuck between the jamb and a door, and the door will not close. I triple checked everything. I don't think that I did anything wrong. The holes for the hinges from last time should work...
Maybe they sent the wrong z-bar?
If you call Andersen, the part is most likely covered under warranty. I bought mine then called them and they reimbursed me and I have a 3000 series since 2001 !
Instructions that comes with the rail hinge ...says to put the hinge on the door first..... would that make it any easier...?
I didn’t attach the Z-Bar to the door. It was easier for me (less weight) attaching the
Z-Bar to the frame so I didn’t struggle with the weight of the door. Whatever is easier for you. Good luck!

i have the same issue with my 4000 series door. I called the 800 # on my label on the door, gave them to the serial number. They said my hinge has a life time warranty. They are sending me new hinge.

Thanks for the video. I'm in the process of replacing zbar for 3000 series. I have attached the zbar to the door frame and need to attach the door to the hinges of the zbar. Door is quite heavy. You think attaching the zbar to the door first would have been a better idea ? Please share what you think.

nice vid but, the replacement hinge strip has the individual hinges spaced differently which make this job much more aggravating.
100% THIS. I just installed my second replacement Z-Bar (it also had different hinge spacing) and it was a MAJOR pain in the ass lining the hinges up to make sure the door closed properly / hit the striker plate. All I have left is that damn strip on the outside but that can wait until another day.
I always think of the money I saved by fixing something myself. It gets me through my aggravation lol.

Can you just replace the hinges and not the Z-bar? The Z-bar assembly is a whopping $70 but a whole new door is $120. i feel like they should sell just the hinges for $5 a pop

Take the whole door down and attach the zip bar with door off then put up the door and screw it in

My door had same problem, called and they sent me a new one but rep had mentioned a different door model piano style.. I told him that was wrong z bar, but he said sending the correct hinge free. I called when wrong one arrived and tried to order correct one again.. But, expected to get it free like the other. I was told that because door did not wear out and was due to some force that the door z bar Correct 4 hinge would be sent with a charge. I told them broke hinge that is several were rusted out and then any thing they saw in picture I sent was after. I sent picture to ID door since my lable was removed or feeled off door for model number. I went on line and many people said they were not given the free forever replacement part as advertised. In the end door is still not repaired. I am writing to the corporate offices to complain. They said they do not want the piano hinge returned.? Stupid. Never by from them again. Also someone wants ed $275. to install the z bar. Just what you did without the cut, The new bar would be $65. You are correct but may include shipping.? That is over $300. To put in a zbar? I don_t think I paid that much. Someone else would charge $500, for a new door and install. But not same quality door I have. Disgusted. Larson door z bar available in Walmart.
That’s unbelievable....So much for customer service!...I would call them back and ask to speak to a supervisor, and explain the problem to him/her....If the supervisor (get name) is not helpful, explain that you’re going to make a complaint with the Better Business Bureau....The BBB is usually pretty good at getting a resolution...Good luck!

It used to be that things were built in a way where you didn't have to screw around with fixing this crap. All I do is spend time fixing crap because everything is made out of crap these days.

I feel your pain also. Everytime I turn around and fix something there is two other things that just broke and need fixing. This year it seems to be doors. I had issues earlier this summer with my garage door sticking.
Tina, your post cracked me up. And you are so right; everything is crap and it's so bad that with some things you cannot buy a good quality part or fixture or door or whatever, at *any* price! Very frustrating. But it sounds like you're the type who continues to persevere, so that's great!

This doors suck azz! I have two of them, and one is barely used and they have creaked 3 months after install. Lubed 100 times nothing!
I've got 40 year-old storm doors with the same problem. I'm going to go back to wooden storm doors when I'm ready for the project, but what i did to keep the old doors working until I was ready to get rid of all that metal crap was to cut out the hinges from the stupid sidebars and put in $2 hinges and then caulk my cutouts. This was 2 years ago and it's still working perfectly. My house is a hundred years old. This metal storm door sht redudes your door width. If you treat the old wooden jamb with wood hardener and then apply a good oil-based primer, the old, original method is far, far better.
