- Andersen says their 3000 series storm door can be installed in 45 minutes. I'll show you how to install this storm door and lockset See if I get it done in 45 minutes! You can do this yourself and save a lot of money versus paying someone else to install your door. The Andersen 3000 storm door is heavy duty, built well and installs easily.
Although not a requirement , most often storms doors are installed with the lockset on the same side of the opening as the entry door. You'll notice in this video , I install the storm door with the lockset on the opposite side as the entry door. There is a reason for this. The entry door installed by the builder is the wrong hand, it should have been a left hand door based on the way the front porch is built. It will be changed to a left hand door in the future. If I had installed a storm door with the handle on the same side as the existing entry door, we would exit the doorway into a wall unless the door was fully opened when walking out. Not convenient at all, so changing the entry door to the proper hand door will be the best solution.

Great video. I pretty much just followed it for the entire install and it went great! Question for you... Did you have a plastic layer over the glass? Mine seems a bit dull or hazy, but for the life of me, I can't see any noticable plastic where I can peel. Mine has no plastic on the frame itself, but like I said, the glass just seems cloudy. If there is plastic on it, will it be impossible to peel off now that the window retainers are installed?
Hi Mike, thank you for watching! Mine did not have any plastic film on the glass. I don't think the retainers touch the glass, so if there is a film on yours, I'd think you could peel it without removing the glass form the door.
@@dwcoffey well, Windex does wonders. I was sure the haze was from plastic, but it was just dirty haha. Looks good now. Thanks for replying
That's great! Well, the good news is, that was easier than trying to get the glass out and get a bunch of plastic off! :) Take care, Mike!
@@dwcoffey didn't have any plastic on mine either

Thank you, Mr. Coffey! I read thru the instructions a few times and then watched your video. I'm 5' and installed it with minimum problems.
I miss my dad being able to help me with projects.😢 Thank you for temporarily filling his shoes.
Thank you so much and I'm very glad this helped! Great job getting it installed yourself!! I'm sure your Dad would be proud of you!
This was so helpful. My favorite part was how he was surprising his wife and had to get it done before she got home. What a guy. 👍👍
Thank you very much for watching, Alex!
Exactly what I’ll be doing today and why I came here for a video like this.
I love that we have great people like this showing us that we can tackle projects. I get a lot of compliments as a 30 year old dad and husband for being “handy” but heck there is a video ready to embolden me for almost any project I ever think to try to tackle. Thanks for a great video. Next best thing to having a family member here to do it with me.
Thank you so much for the nice comment! I appreciate you watching!
Like others have said, extremely helpful and well presented. A million times better than the written instructions that come with the door!
Thanks for watching, Randolph!
I saved almost $200 installing mine and following your video. Thanks for the detailed steps!
For sure! If they would use good quality bearings and grease them from the factory (like Scag has done), spindles would last for years. Thanks for watching, Tim!
Excellent video Mr Dennis!
After 4 years you are still a blessing thank you so much and God bless
Thank you very much, Kelley! I appreciate you watching!
Thanks for talking thoroughly on each of those steps.
Now me and my son in law can tackle this more confidently.
Thanks 😊
I'm glad this is helpful! Thanks for watching!
My boyfriend and his father installed the same door in black today 5/17/2020.. It took them about 1 1/2 hours due to the side top of the frame came a little bent and they had to straighten to align evenly with the other holes. I wanted to take it back to Home Depot to get another one. But you know men they figured out how to do it. 🤣😊 Your step by step instructions was on point. Your steps was much simplified than Home Depot in. I want to thank you, thank you, thank you for taking the time to make the step-by- step instructions. 👌🏽👍👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾I love my new door.😊
Thank you so much, Talesha! I'm glad this helped and thank you for watching and commenting!
What a great job with this video. You were very detailed and showed the tight shots so everyone can actually see what you are doing. So many people do these videos just to be seen and the actual instruction details are lost.
Thank you so much Bob! I appreciate it and thank you for watching!
Had some water pushing through the back door of the house after a hard storm. Purchased this door and installing it today. Thanks for the Vid!
I hope the install went well! Thanks for watching!
THIS is a EXCELLENT, perfect video that helps us DIYers know exactly what to do, and what to expect. This video saved me A LOT OF TIME of what it would of taken me fumbling through the instructions....THANKS DENNIS!!!!
I'm glad this helped! Thank you for watching!
Probably the best installation how-to video I've seen on youtube. No fluff, everything I wanted to see and nothing I didn't. Well done
Thank you for watching, Victor!
Awesome video! Great help. My door only came with a parts list. Found this video and made my install very easy. Thank you!
I'm glad it helped! Thanks for watching, Nicholas!
Hey I just installed the same door on my house today (Monday 17/20). It was a easy install even for a 71 year old.
That's fantastic! I have to say that I like the way these doors go in....way better than the old doors you had to cut the frames to fit, etc. Thanks for watching!
Dennis, thank you for providing such clear instructions. After watching your video, I'm even more confident about installing my storm door. I think you would have made the 45 minutes if you didn't have to explain everything to us newbies. I hope you're wife is happy with her new door, it compliments the exterior door perfectly.
Thank you so much, Charron! A couple of viewers pointed out to me that I had installed the handles upside down.....they are correct, but my wife likes them that way, so that's how they got installed! haha. She loves the door, now she can let a lot of light in thru the front when she's working. Thank you!!
Wow! This was a great video. Thanks so much for the thorough install. This was much easier to follow along than the written instructions.
Thanks for watching, Stephanie!
This video provided clear, and accurate instructions to help me install a storm door for my grandpa. Thank you for your help
That's wonderful and a very nice thing for you to do for your Grandpa! Thanks for watching!
I followed your video step by step! Thank you for making it so easy to follow. It took me 1:30 but it really was easy just following ur steps. And now my husband owe me $50 😂
That's great Sarah!! Not only did you save money, but you made money! :) Thanks for watching!
Hi Dennis, my door was slightly different as it's the version with a sliding screen/window combo. Andersen's video leaves a lot to be desired and your was spot on. Thanks for the help!
Thanks for watching, Kevin! I'm glad this helped with your door!
Just installed mine in the 90° heat, was about 45 minutes on the dot. That upper trim was a total pain, but thanks to your video the rest was smooth sailing and the GF is going to be totally stoked when she gets home. Thanks for the video.
Awesome! Thank you for watching!
Just installed an Anderson series 3000 door today after watching this video. I have the retractable screen door. Took me about 1hr 15 min but I had trouble with the lockset. This video definitely helped so I could skim through the instructions and save time. Great video. Thanks for posting.
Thank you Jeff! I'm glad it helped and I appreciate you watching!
This was my first time installing a storm door. I watched the video, then replayed it during the installation. It took me 2 hours total to gather the tools, get the old door off, and the new door on. Thank you. Great instructional video.
That's fantastic! I'm glad this helped. Thank you for watching!
Thank you!!! Do these companies ever do focus groups to see if their instructions are worth the paper they are written on??? My husband and I are pretty handy but it took us an hour and a half just to install the handles- 10 minutes after we watched your video. Unbelievable! Your video was a Godsend..
Thank you for watching, Kim! I'm glad this helped. I've wondered the same....I don't think they actually ever try to follow their instructions...they just write them down as they 'think' it should go. haha
Excellent video, I just went out & bought this same door yesterday & installed it in like a hour& half & 6 beers just using your video.. no instruction manual needed what so ever .. thanks brother
That's fantastic! Thanks for watching!
6 beers in 1 1/2 hrs. How did anything get done lol
Dennis, thanks for this great video. My install took closer to three hours, but I had to build out the door frame first and then I had a lot of trouble with the handle set. Your detailed description really helped me figure out the handle installation. Thanks again.
I'm glad this helped! Thank you for watching!
I’m a female and just looked at this door at the store. Your video was super helpful and I’m excited to install my door. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos
Thanks for watching, Dierdre! I'm sure you will do a great job getting it installed. Let me know if I can help!
Thank you for the video. I installed one Anderson 3000 series door with one hand retractable screen with the help of a friend. Watching your video, I believe I can do it myself. Thank you for demonstration. 👍🏻
I'm glad this helped! Thanks for watching Taj!
Thanks for the help!! It's like you were here with me
Glad I could help! Thank you for watching, George!
I bought this same exact door storm door yesterday at Home Depo and I would like to try installing this myself because I got a quote from a handyman stating he will charge me $300 to put this storm door on. I think $300 is a bit and the gentleman at Home Depo told me that the installation is very easy. I will use your wonderful video to install my door over the weekend.
I hope all goes well Roxanne! I'm sure it will. Let me know if I can help. Thanks for watching!
@@dwcoffey my son and I installed the door in three hours and your video demonstration helped us greatly. Thanks so much for such a well put togather video.
That's great, Roxanne! I'm glad you got it done together and glad you saved that $300!! Fantastic!
Home depot will install it for 199 .. I had my friend install two for 300
I just wanted to say thank you!. I didnt have the guts to try this until i watched this video. Storm door is installed within about 30 minutes without any issue at all. I need to simply install the door handle hardware. I just came back to this video to double check what i have done so far. Many many thanks. I owe you a beer.
That's great Marc! 30 minute install is fantastic too. Thanks for watching!
Door installation was pretty simple. I’d say it was a 15 minute install if you have a perfectly squared up and sized frame. My struggles were with the door handle installation. I was getting SOOO frustrated! Took about 30 minutes before searching online and finding your video. Watched your handle install and finished up in 5 minutes. I wasn’t preinstalling the handles into the plates which was required. Thank you for keeping my sanity and helping with my installation!
I'm glad this helped and thanks for watching, Christopher!
This video was absolutely perfect! Every home project I attempt usually ends up with lots of frustration and parts left over. I literally didn’t have to open the instruction book (my nemesis) and it went as smooth as I could have hoped. The only thing that slowed me down was trying to slide on the little side vinyl covers that cover the screws. Such. A helpful video, much appreciated.
I'm glad this helped! I'm not a fan of those screw trim covers. haha. Thanks for watching, Patrick!
Your awsome i brought that same storm door and had no ideal on how to install it never had install one hate reading instrutions i followed your video step by step and i was so impressed on how it came along … great instrutions thank hou so much … your the best
Thank you so much, Willie! I appreciate you watching and I'm glad this helped!
Me and my ol’ lady just got done installing the same door, her grandma bought it for us because we just bought our first home!!! This was definitely helpful! The instructions were a little hard to understand, so seeing you do it was very nice. Couldn’t get the retainers to attach on the inside so I decided to leave them off, and the clips that came with the closer I couldn’t figure out what they were for so I just left those off as well. But anyways thank you so much for your helpful video and I really hope your wife liked the surprise!!!
Thanks for watching, Drake! I'm glad this helped! Congratulations on the new home!!
you mean your wife not your ol'lady !!!
Thanks Dennis, I'm putting in 3 Storm Doors tomorrow.. great video!
Watched the video a total of 3 times, can’t thank you enough sir, you definitely made installing this door very, very, easy you are greatly appreciated. Biggest issue I had was the plastic trim that covers the screws took me a few minutes but I got it down, two thumbs up, thanks.
Thank you for watching, Antonio! I'm really glad this helped and I agree with you about those plastic covers.
After fighting with the screw covers for longer than I care to admit, I bought some exterior 8 x 1 1/4" flat head wood screws and replaced the pan head screws. After that, it was a snap.
Thank you! This video was extremely informative and helpful. I purchased this screen door in black yesterday and will be installing it today when I get off work. I watched this video a few times and I’m pretty confident that I can tackle this project without any issues. Thanx again!
Thanks for watching, Brent! I hope your install went well!
So glad I watched your video before making the installation (4 times)! Saved me untold frustration and problems. My only problem was the orange clips that hold the door in place while installing the edge screws, thought I was never going to get one of them off, they need to come up with a better way! Thanks for posting!
Thank for watching, Papa! I'm glad this helped. Yes, as I recall, one or two of those clips were really difficult to get off.
Hello Sir, thanks for the thorough video. We are getting two of these doors delivered tomorrow and your video really helped me prep.
Thank you for watching, Derek! I hope your install went well!!
God bless you. You Made the installation so much easier than expected. Five star video. Straight to the point.
Thank you so much! I'm glad this helped and I really appreciate you watching!
Thanks for your video! You not only saved me $$ not hiring someone , but my wife also trusts me a little bit note to install stuff ...I give you all the credit!! Thanks again
Thanks for watching, Anthony! Hey man, that's great!! Points with the wife are better than money in the bank!!! Good job sir!
Great video! I was able to install in about an hour. The instructions were confusing, but thanks to your video I knew what to do step by step. Thanks Dennis!
Thank you for watching, Roy! I'm glad this helped you!
Very descriptive and easy to follow along. Great job Dennis.
Thank you Jeffrry! I appreciate you watching!
This is great. I should’ve watched it first but now I know what to do to finish the job… meaning the closers and the retainer clips. At some point I thought I was picture illiterate 😳 but you explained them well. And now I have a storm door without paying 170 for install.
I'm glad this helped! Thank you for watching, Mercy!
Thank you. Mine is taking 2 hours and counting so far but I'm watching parts of your video and then running downstairs to do what you just said. Plus I had to walk my dog. 😊
Thanks for watching, Peter! I hope it all went well!
It really did. I was surprised that the door handle does not have the springy return that yours has. Maybe I tightened thigs down too much?
Possibly, but you may just need to lube the lockset to loosen it up.
Thanks for this video, tackling my rear storm door this weekend and the existing door is kinda installed funky. Seeing how the Andersen installs before hand helps.
Thanks for watching, Sal! I hope this helps!
Great video! Never even opened the directions and had it done in an hour! Thank you, Dennis!
Nice job! Thanks for watching, Eric!
I just installed the same door. I had issues with the door frame being too wide because it’s in a 160 year old farmhouse. I used trim strips to fill the space. One side was slightly shorter than the other side so I had to cut about 1/8” off one side of the storm door. I also had trouble lining up the dead bolt cylinder but sorted it out. Great product! Thanks for video.
Thank you for watching! That sounds like a lot of work, but also sounds like it ended up looking great! I agree, I like the Andersen door....It's nicely made and seems to be holding up well. Thanks again!
Dennis, Than you so much for the video. I just installed the same door in a rental property of mine. I didn’t even use the instructions. Super easy step by step video. If I had to do it again, I could probably cut the time in half. Great video!
I'm really glad this helped, Dan! Thank you for watching!
Dennis - This was an excellent tutorial. I wish I’d watched it before installing the two doors I put up yesterday. But in total honesty I followed their instructions exactly as you did and everything about my install went the same way yours did. Well done, sir.
Thank you for watching! I'm glad your installs went well. I agree...their instructions are pretty good.
Dennis Coffey - yeah, so I was finishing up the last bits this afternoon. Couldn’t get the screw covering molding to “take”. Any trick to that?
I slipped the edge closest to the door into the full length of the channel first, then pushed the 'outside' edge into the channel from the top, then kept pushing downward until it was fully seated.
Dennis Coffey - Appreciated. I’ll give it another go. These are out back, I suppose they don’t need all the cosmetics, but we’ll see
Just the video I was looking for! Bought my 3000 yesterday but because it is a special order and because of the pandemic, my door won't arrive for 6 weeks. Anyway, I will be ready and I'm sure the install will be a piece of cake! Thanks for the video!!
Lead times on things are getting crazy! I 'm sure you will do a great job on your install. Thanks for watching!
I like of what you showed on youtube. My husband have a hard time to install this storm door and would appreciate your demonstration. Let me save your video for him to watch this.
Thanks for watching, Pamela!
@@dwcoffey he successfully installed our beatiful storm door.
You’re a legend. This was so much better than reading the instructions.
Thanks for watching! I appreciate it!
@@dwcoffey no problem.
One question, on your door did you have any issues with the door latching? Despite doing everything correctly when installing mine, my door doesn’t like to shut if the main house door is closed behind it, almost like the air pressure trapped between the closing storm door is enough to not allow the door to latch, and so I have to push it closed.
Another thing that’s weird, is that on my storm door, when it’s latched closed, it’s pretty solidly closed, but if you do much as breathe on the door handle (like moving it 1/16”) it’ll unlatch. Not sure if that’s just me, or if you experienced that as well.
I have not had either of those problems. I'd try setting the closer cylinders to be a bit tighter, maybe they can overcome the trapped air between doors. The only thing for the latch I can think of is to check the alignment of the striker plate and the plunger.
Great video. Getting our exterior front door replaced and want to add this storm door as well. Looks simple to do thanks to your video.
Thank you for watching, Kyle! I hope this helps when you tackle your door install.
Thank you so much. Was extremely helpful and drastically cut my installation time down had I tried to simply follow the instructions.

Thanks for the clear video. I had the exact same set and little details like acknowledging the oil residue on the handle were good to know mine wasn't especially defective.

Thank you for your detailed video, it was a tremendous help and saved money by doing it myself. Appreciate it!
Thank you for watching, Dishant!
Great video..Everything went smooth as silk for me except for a little trouble out of the latch assembly but I finally got it to play nice.. I got the one with the self storing glass for the quick screen install and we love it! Thanks for taking the time to make this video...
Thanks for watching, Danny! I like that self-storing door too. I think I'm going to put one of those on our back door so we can open the screen to let air in easier.
Dennis, great, clear, good simple tips. Good job. Thanks.
Thank you for watching, Jim!
Dude great video probably one of the best instructional video on RUclips 👍 Thank you.
Thank you so much, Pete! I appreciate you watching!
Thanks for the Video. I didn't even read the instructions. Only problem I had was the drill bit broke on the very last closer hole I had to drill. Luckily there was enough sticking out to grab it with a pair of pliers, and back it out. So, maybe use a better drill bit.
Thanks for watching, Bob! That stinks....I just had the same thing happen to me when mounting a bilge pump in my sailboat. I broke the bit right off in the fiberglass but I did not have enough to get it out. Glad you were able to back yours out!
Thank you!! I watched your video to install my door👍🏿

I installed many storm doors but never installed one the hinges opposite of the main door. I am installing one of these doors in the back of my new house this week and thought I would watch your video. Thanks. Maybe I will try the opposite hinge thing when I get the door for my front.
Thanks for watching, Andre! I agree, normally the hinges will be on the same side. I installed this one opposite because the entry door installed by the builder is the wrong hand, it should have been a left hand door based on the way the front porch is built. It will be changed to a left hand door in the future. If I had installed a storm door with the handle on the same side as the existing entry door, we would exit the doorway into a wall unless the door was fully opened when walking out. Not convenient at all, so changing the entry door to the proper hand door will be the best solution.
Same here good explanation sir . I was wondering too but now makes sense. Beautiful job I’ll watch the video a second time . Thank you sir
Thanks man! Really Appreciate people like you. Made my day easier

@@dwcoffey install went fairly well, glad I watched your video first. Great Video Dennis! I am installing ours later today or tonight. If I finish in 3 hours I'll be happy. Everything takes me 3 hours no matter how easy. lol As my buddy once said while we were golfing, "What club should I use? 5 or 7 iron? What difference does it make, they all go the same distance anyway!". Lol
LOL! That's about the truth! Thank you for watching and for the great comment!

@@dwcoffey Ended up taking me 90 minutes to install door and lock, and most of that time was changing bit to driver on the drill, and fiddling with the lock. I kept turning the lock handle towards the outside instead of the inside. That will drop the handle out of the door when you test the latch.
Would you recommend caulking around the storm door trim?
Yes, I did mine. I caulked between both side rails and the brick moulding on my door just to avoid leaks and draughts.
Awesome job. Quite thorough and excellent illustration.
Thank you so much for watching, Lascelles!
