This video was so extremely helpful! The wind caught our storm door over the winter and it was driving me nuts. My mom and I (two women who really had no idea what we were doing) were able to fix our door using this video in no time. It closes like it should again. No more slamming it shut. lol Thank you!
The bent door closing rods are a hint to check the hinges. A good gust of wind will whip the door open, bending the rods & hinges. Great, helpful video. Thanks.
i typically loath the negative comments and here i am posting one but one might note here how one of the piston pivot points was reversed, they'll say right on them which side goes to door, also don't bend your catch plates, just shim them out with small washers or something. but rather than even doing that start by adjusting your return rate on the door end of the pneumatic cylinders, they might just not be pulling sufficiently. a good goal when attempting to fix something is not messing something up worse for the next guy in there. happy fixing folks!
I didn't do everything in your video but it did help. I found two things ... First I tightened every screw in the door, about half of them were loose, likely keeping the door out of square. Second, I had that same bent bottom hinge. Instead of hitting the door I just opened it all the way and hit the hinge from inside. Did the trick.
It worked. I loosened the 4 frame screws on the inside (2 at the top and 2 at the bottom side of the door handle) side of the storm door. Then used a shop rag wrapped around a small crow bar and with some slight leverage raised the sagging side of the Storm door up 7/8 of an inch all the way across the bottom of the storm door to safely clear my new deck..
Thanks so much. I'm rehabbing a home (to live in), and I think it is true that there isn't ANY problem, issue, or annoyance one can have that someone, somewhere, has not already done a video to show the solution. You guys keep it up!
Thanks much! After frustrating search for new storm door, found this video. Halfway through, got some ideas to fix my own door. Paused video and fixed the door. The mallet was key for the bent door-closing rod. Hinges wound up being ok for now...until the next big wind gust.
Perfect video. My storm door latch was off by a centimeter or two and a few wacks with a hammer and a two by four did the trick! Thank you for your advice sir!
Thank you for this! I was able to fix the storm door on my parents’ house with this method. The repair barely took a minute. A couple of taps to a piece of 2x6 from a rubber mallet on the center of the door frame; and it’s closing like a champ.
Thank you this video was exactly the problem I had with my door. I had spent hours trying to fix my door once every few years, and I had never noticed the angle of the hinges. Mine proper angle was 75 or 80 deg. I was able to bend them with a sheet mettle folding tool and hammer. It finally closes properly after all these years. *****
Ah man you are awesome. You just saved me having to take my door off and replace the hinges. Mine was hitting at the top and tried your 2x4 trick. Worked like a champ.
A man who is handy around the house with stuff like this is so dreamy. My hubby works about 80 hours a week, 6 and 7 days a week so his work ethic is dreamy...but it leaves me trying to play handy woman via a RUclips tutorial. 👷👏🛠 Thanks for sharing!
lol .. my husband is a chef and does most the cooking (grateful!!), but he is no handy man!! So here I am once again searching RUclips to fix yet another thing ..
God bless you, this video sure did helped me, especially that there’s no companies or individuals that do little jobs like these without trying to replace the entire storm door! ❤️
I have the same problem, they told me couldn’t fix it, told me to buy a new one or just take it off. Thank you I have had this problem for many years I’m not no handyman but my wife says I can fix ( we can Fix it)
Thank you for your video. I had the post office leave a box between my doors on a windy day. The door has sagged about half an inch now, but Im going to try your video and see how I do. Thanks again.
THANK YOU SIR! I was trying to hire someone, now since you made this repair so simple I will save my money and do myself. Have the same exact door as you.
This did help me. Thank you. I have three doors that are about 20 years old, and they all need doing. Since I don't follow the NFL, I think I know what I'll be doing tomorrow. The pliers strategy seemed to work pretty well, and I have some good pliers. Will be following your video tomorrow. Thanks again.
I learned form this video that I had a different issue. My door closes with a 2-3 inch gap. It seals if I pull it close and latch it, but doesn't close or stay closed on it's own.
Great video that's happen to me Never though about checking hinges like u did. Will try that. Also on mine rods on pistons & piece they hook into got bent so had to change them. Have same problem with latch & I just cut some thin wood like paneling to put behind the plate to bring the whole plate out more
Good video helped out alot....if you would take a metal block and put on the back side of the hinge and then hit it with your hammer works alot fast to shape it back to were you want it thanks for the video the helped me out
Use a door hinge repair kit to fix the hinges, you can also replace the hinge rail, but it's cheaper to fix the hinges with new pin repair kit. Still need to remove the door, then remove the rail to fix the hinges, but not a hard job to do.
Have same door. was going to contact manufacturer to get a new Hinge rail or Z rail as they call it.. will remove the door and bend the top hinge back into place as you did.. thanks. [ my only question was why you did not remove the glass when you did the sledge/ wood 1st attempt].
Duuuuuuuuuude thanks a lot I am gonna try this. Seems v difficult to get the door lined back up to put the screws in though I hope I can do it by myself.
Easiest and most effective remedy is to replace the hinge rail and hinges,we repair hundreds of door ..Forget about beating a door or it's parts with wood.
Thanks for posting... Happy New Year... Banging sometimes helps... Not here... "Door Hinge Kong". Yay!!! What will Banshee bang? Cheers. S/V Good Karma.
Is it possible to lock this door open? I'm trying to social a feral cat & lock step the door open for him to come in and eat. The wind catches the door and blows it to a point it releases and closes. The freal freaks and runs to get out & has gotten hit by the door twice. So, is there a LOCK OPEN feature or am I at the mercy of the winds whether the door stays open or not. All the previous ones I had you could slide a lock to keep it opened.
@@exoman Thanks, but that is missing on mine. If there was one the handyman never installed it. I adjusted the closing speed, so hopefully it will give him enough time to get out safely if it happens again. :-)

Wow, that is great to hear, Kiersten. Thanks for visiting.

Hey thanks! You two seem like good people. Need some neighbors like you guys
Awesome! I will do this tomorrow. I was racking my brain why my tight-fitting door became impossible to close. I'm positive this is the solution.
He did a nice job of explaining everything in detail I think it was a very good video

Thank you! We are DIYers and this fix after wind bent both storm doors' hinges
is quite an obvious solution after inspecting.
Excellent, after smashing my thumb using the first method I will attempt the second once it stops bleeding. My other thumb and I thank you very much!
Both issues you repaired were exactly what happened to our door! I will try this later today😍
Thank you so much for posting! Single mom and I honestly had no clue on what to do Sir. I got this now!
You are so welcome!
Thanks, this was very helpful, helped me solve issue with my porch door not closing properly. The 2x4 worked perfectly without damaging door.

Thanks very much. I had some foundation work done recently and since then the storm door will not close. I believe that this is the solution.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the tip about the hinges being off-90. Mine were bent a good bit past. Time to pull the door.
I am working on this issue right now. Thanks for the video. I thought it mght be the hinges but I didnt know how to approach fixing it.
God bless you, this video sure did helped me, especially that there’s no companies or individuals that do little jobs like these without trying to replace the entire storm door! ❤️
Thank you dude. You gave me an idea how to straighten my screen door. I hit the 2x6 on the bottom hinge on the outside of the frame. Worked great.
Pure genius! Thanks so much for this video!
I have the same problem, they told me couldn’t fix it, told me to buy a new one or just take it off. Thank you I have had this problem for many years I’m not no handyman but my wife says I can fix ( we can Fix it)
Exactly what I needed. Thanks. Sheet metal clamp pliers will help get the 90 degree bend easier but you managed to do the same with regular pliers.
Exactly what I needed. Thanks so much.
I don’t even have a storm door, yet I’m still watching ...
😂
This video really helped me. Thank you very much!
Awesome video without all the hype & awful music!! Thanks Exoman!! I look forward to more vids! 😊😊
I MAY LOSE MY FINGER. YOU ARE STRONG! THANK YOU.
👍❤👍
This was perfect. Going to try and fix our door tomorrow! Thank you!
Thank you so much! My same exact problem and you helped me fix my sagging, sticking glass door.

Great Job Exoman....
Excellent and informative presentation. Thanks exoman, and (helper!) Have a nice day, and thanks for the post!
Excellent! I'll go and try to fix my door now.
sure did help, thank you very much! you are a cool guy.
Glad to hear that, and thank you!

had this happen to my door. wind took it. i found it easy to place the hinge in a vice and carefully bend the hinge to 90 deg
Well done. Thanks for the tip.
Awesome sir u just helped me big time I learned alot from ur video on this thanks so much ur the best
Glad to hear it! Thank you.
This wasn’t my problem but it got me looking and found that the hardware for the door was lose. Nice video. Surprised the glass didn’t break. Lol
Good job if you get a chance put on chain it might ruin the appearance but less work?
Thank you for sharing this video. It worked!
Glad it helped!
Thanks sir very appreciated!!
Helpful. Thank you!
Yep helped me, this just happened to us too.
I have the same door and that problem won’t close .Thank you for helpful video
Could've used a small wood block to bang back those hinges too.
This is awesome! Thank you!!
You are so welcome!
Thanks, That's exactly what I need to do I appreciate the video.
Great Video Thanks a lot!

Sanity saver!! Thanks.
Where does one acquire an assistant such as her!? Nice job on the hinges, I didn't realize they could become warped/bent over time.
nice work

So, Carl Spangler, fixes the storm door after banging it, good one Jenn
Thanks for that!
Great video. Thanks for taking time to explain,
Duuuuuuuuuude thanks a lot I am gonna try this. Seems v difficult to get the door lined back up to put the screws in though I hope I can do it by myself.
Thank you!!!
It helped me. Thanks exoman.
You bet, thanks!
Your bottom door closer bracket is backwards the tapered end is suppose to face the screen/storm door.
Thank you so much Sir
Thanks a ton. I have had the same issue with mine and kept trying to adjust the frame. I will try the hinges on the next warm day.
Great video!!!!
Bingo. Thank you, sir.
Easiest and most effective remedy is to replace the hinge rail and hinges,we repair hundreds of door ..Forget about beating a door or it's parts with wood.
Thanks im gonna try this on my door. Was wondering why my door doesn’t shut right.
Thanks so much, i was about to buy a new door but not i just going to fix it.
Thanks this was very helpful.
great video thanks.
Thanks
wife's comment about gopher is funny I was thinking Bill Murry hat as well.
I have a similar problem but caused hinges bend and tare, how would remove hinges rod like the one showed in video so I can replace hinges
Brilliant
Or in my case, just tighten up the casing screws on the side with the hinges. Sometimes people over think things.
Good job. 👍
great job.
Chinese junk everything, my friend! I agree.
then don't buy it
I wish I’d seen this a couple months ago. I still have the door but lost two of the hinges parts and ruined the handle
It sure helped me.
Great to hear!
Exoman, do you think the same would work on a screen door that got sprung? Smae problem

There should be a sliding disk on the piston. Or maybe a block or brick to hold it.
