Thank you so much for this. The other day I was listening to a podcast where Jessica DeFino was a guest and the hosts were just casually talking about getting preventative Botox even though they were then talking to DeFino who is obviously an advocate for embracing ageing and it made me really paranoid, that Botox has become so mainstream now and that i'm kind of sleeping on it? We all need reminders that ageing without invasive measures is totally fine, so thank you for that! Loved the outfits, off to search for secondhand Linen trousers now. :)
oooh I need to do a deep dive into the JD podcast archive! I know I'm going to love listening to all her guest features, so thanks for the nudge! hope you get on well with the linen trews.. i saw so many good ones on depop! x
You've really inspired me to not buy any new clothes this summer, I've saved so much money and love dressing consciously! I love how you make multiple outfit combos from your clothes and always look effortlessly cool! Also please remember that you are a gorgeous gal too x
I really really relate to the comparing yourself to other younger people, it's so hard to not internalise what we see online. I send so much of my time on social media, and I know so many of the people around me do too. I wish there was more influencers out there talking about aging and social media too, as I honestly think my personal confidence is at the lowest it's been in my life, TikTok and instagram has played a huge factor in that. Thank you so much for talking about this and (btw you're gorgeous)
i am really sorry to hear that. social media can be awful for comparison. my only advice would be to spend a little less time on it (if you can) and to unfollow absolutely everyone who triggers something in you. sending love you way 💛
I've been struggling in this heatwave as I have heat intolerance as part of my chronic illness, it also makes me anxious about climate change and the future. But this video made me feel a lot more relaxed so thank you as always Venetia. I've just turned 30 which made me have a slight *crisis* but you've reassured me that getting older is a thing to be positive about.
hey gemma, i'm so sorry to hear this. a lot of us are feeling anxious about the global heatwaves. it's a very real and hugely valid emotion to have right now! we must hold the tories and the fossil fuel industry accountable - things will change if we rally together! sending you all the love and happy happy belated birthday - 30s are ACE! 💛
I love skincare, it kept me sane during all the lockdowns by giving my mornings/evenings structure. I was new to it in 2020 and did over consume but I don't regret that phase. I've now settled into a more relaxed routine after discovering what I like and what works for me. I'm also content with ageing naturally, I've found a few greys and I love them. Thank you for hanging out with us, I appreciate your content here 💛
thank you for sharing your skincare experience with me. i think it can be a really lovely way to give ourselves some love. so here for embracing the ageing process! thank you lovely💛
Loved the little ageing chat, thanks for that! Video idea (not sure if you’ve already done this): how to sustainably care for clothing. I’m particularly stumped on how to keep whites white for years and years. x
Yay, I’m so happy you’re back, I’ve missed your videos. You really make me want to live a better, more considered life 🙏 Also I love your take on ageing! I’m 44 and despite luckily being told I look 10 years younger I still worry about it. And be kind to yourself on skincare, you do way more than most on this planet generally and you use sustainable ethical brands so enjoy your YOU time. ❤️
Love those outfits! And thank you for the aging chat. I'm also in my 30s and def am noticing little lines etc. I'm a big proponent of utilizing traditional wisdom when it comes to aging/taking care of our skin/bodies. I think gua sha is an amazing tool for looking glowy and smoothing things out! Have you tried it? Our western society is always looking for the quick fixes, but I've realized it's how you live your life and the little things you do to care for yourself that make the biggest differences.
hello! yes, they actually used one during the facial i had the other day and I really enjoyed it, I'm just conscious that it's yet another indigenous tradition that's been co-opted by the beauty industry /white folks, so wary about where I would get one - and also promoting one, if that makes sense. If you know of a place to buy one that celebrates its origins rather than erases them, please do share! x
@@VenetiaLaManna_ For sure, such a good point you make about appropriation. I got mine from my acupuncturist as it is a tool in Chinese Medicine, so perhaps you could go that route?
Absolutely love you and your style! You inspire me with every video so thank you! Loved your chat about skincare - I am definitely with you on that. Love it too much to totally give it up ;-)
Good to see you back. I imagine if you reduce skin products over a longer period, say 3 to 6 months, your skin would adapt. Sounds like you enjoy it and it gives you pleasure so keep doing it! As a nearly 60 year old I had a little chuckle when you mentioned ageing as a 30 year old. Have a good summer and tell Max to make more videos!! I'm missing his recipes!! 💛
Lovely to see your out here again! I enjoyed seeing all the outfits but I also loved hearing you talking about aging. I feel similar about it but it is good to hear people who have a more 'public' job/role, like you, talk about it. I also find aging kind of beautiful on other people, so I am trying to see that on myself aswell, a bit harder haha but still ;)
Hi! Thank you so much for chatting about Botox. I’m around your age and have tried it two times. It can be surprisingly triggering in its parallels to food and body image issues. As it wears off its akin to a magical spell breaking and it made me feel really out of control thus determined to obsessively attempt to control it. After rushing to go get a second round I had the unfortunate issue of one eyebrow being kinda frozen down. Subtle but enough to make me question all the baggage I was accumulating. I’ve mostly (I admit not totally) been quite relieved to have it fade a year later. I highly suggest finding some people in the public eye to watch after an intense amount of perfectly botoxed influencer consumption. Emilia Clarke and Adèle Haenel are two inspirations for me in their mid 30s. I fully support people getting Botox if it makes them happy and they are able to keep an easy heart with it. My aunt had an eyebrow frozen wayyyyy up high and she laughed about it more than anyone and hasn’t missed a beat continuing Botox a decade later. Maybe someday I’ll be that chill! In general I wish the mental health around “minor tweaks” was talked about more. So thanks again for being open and I always love your creative creations 💫
really grateful for this insight, thank you so much. i think i would have a similar experience to the one you had. did you see the hoo ha around Emma Watson's naturally ageing face recently? just gross. so important to see famous folk like her (and the others you shared) age naturally in the public eye. thanks again💫
Loved the outfits. Especially the full linen look with the hat. You need to teach me this roller clip front hair tricky please and make me the pasta salad and let’s go for facials together. Okay love you bye xx
Beautiful outfits! I still am hoping to nab my second hand linen but no luck yet. Looking forward to that full linen outfit feel, especially after 2 months of the Italian heatwave. You are looking super fit and well. Keep up the good vibes, take care x
would love to know when you use Depop how you differentiate between what is resale and what is genuine second hand? for example the nike bucket hat and Birkenstocks are very on trend pieces right now - and they look barely touched. When you're buying what sort of tricks/processes do you use to make sure you aren't just buying from someone looking to make a profit (and it's actually no better then buying direct from source) rather than actual genuine, no longer loved, second hand?
this heatwave is really a lot and makes me think about climate change and how people in other parts of the world are even more struggling than we are in europe :/ love these outfits especially the colours of the bikinis and linen is just the best material for the summer, I'm obsessed!
i know... especially as they've been trying to get us to care for SO long. It's a lot. Grateful for folks like Vanessa Nakate in times like these ❤ Hope you're ok and taking plenty of time for you and your joy Kalsoumy ❤
Hi Venetia :) If you haven’t read it yet, I would really recommend Period Power by Maisie Hill, it talks a lot about the ebbs and flows of hormonal cycles as you mentioned, and how to use different parts of your cycle to your advantage, especially with things like creativity! I have found it has helped me to be really mindful of my cycle and it’s truly been life changing. Also so cool you’re a hara fan, another really great Melbourne brand I think you would like is Underwear for Humanity, they’re amazing! Xx
of course skincare is also into the industry and standards and spending money..but I so enjoy having my skincare routine as a moment for me, with a little face massage and a moment to relax before bed :)
