I love winter! Very fortunate not to be affected by seasonal depression. To me, its a time without the FOMO of summer, time to read, to recharge with alone time... Wishing you the best and that cosiness and brisk winter mornings might help you!
Totally recommend spending some of your winter in a snowy/sunny place, even for a week! I’ve spent the last 20 years in either the UK or the pacific north west and the rain and darkness really gets to me in terms of energy and my SAD, but this winter spending it in a sunnier (but v cold) part of Canada and the amount of sun is blowing me away! Was definitely not expecting sun and cold.
I'm going through a rough time these days but seeing this pop up on my YT subscriptions feed made me so happy now 😊 Thank you for being a light in all the darkness, Venetia! 💕🙏
Thank you Venetia for a lovely cosy vlog, i always look forward to snuggling under a blanket with a hot cup of tea and watching your vlogs ☺️ When I am at work I work long hours so during the winter months I go to work in the dark and come home in the dark. I am embracing the winter months by making sure I go outside on my days off for some light and fresh air, and then at home enjoying making lots of different soups and homemade croutons yum x
This year for the first time I am pretty excited about winter. I guess I just try to romanticize it a little by making the most of all the things you typically do in winter: cosying up inside, drinking hot chocolate, reading on the couch, playing board games with friends, cooking winter meals, knitting, going on winter walks when the weather is sunny and crisp...
I honestly could not stop laughing during The Lost City. Sandra Bullock is a comedic genius! The pink jumpsuit got me in stitches every time I thought about it. I also love the outfits you put together :)
I’m all about soft mood lighting, so winter is perfect for cosy atmos. candles, soft lamps!! Lots of inspiration to dig at the old wardrobe, forever grateful to watch you do that as it helps me to do this! gonna start taking vitD supps too. I’m after a good vegan supplements rec for Vit D and omega 3?? Any ideas! I already have a good b12 I think Thank u for the vlogs, they are always so soothing and make me feel calm and peaceful 😊
I feel like I comment on every video of yours 😂 but I can’t stress enough how much I enjoy watching your videos and how much I value your recommendations! I also just got laid off working in climate tech and have a lot of thoughts of how I can make a positive impact now / where I can make the most impact in terms of jobs and it sometimes gets a bit frustrating. So it’s amazing to see you and your community doing so much for educating and making a change - you make me hopeful thank you!
Thank you for the wintering book recommendation in your previous video. I just finished it this morning and it was the perfect book I needed during this time :)
I have to appreciate the matching pancake flip with the beat in the background music! Also, winter is just perfect for introspection and slowness. I can’t complain❤
Always love your videos so much! We're going into summer in New Zealand, so different vibes, but when we were in the middle of winter I watched some of your old winter vlogs and they really helped me to sit within the season and embrace what winter does bring. Sending so much love!
Absolutely loved The Wintering as well. My plan is to get out for a walk on my lunch break as often as I can. Being alongside nature as we both begin to hunker down for winter brings so much peace and calm 💜
Wow this has been the highlight of my gloomy week. Thanks for sharing another insight into your life 🫶🏼 trying to not feel the ‘guilt’ just hunkering down and enjoying some slow evenings on the sofa. Thanks Venetia 🥰
I am gonna embrace the life after dark. Spend time in places where life is buzzing after sunset and relax in the knowing that the day has not ended just because the sun has gone down. This for me means sitting in the window of coffee shops and watching the lights of the outside world glisten through the soft blurry condensation and listen to my fellow winter wonderers' conversation. peace n love xxx
I am very exited for your podcast; looking forward to it being released again. It helps me to embrace winter by orienting more on living seaonally in general and getting in tune with that. Like: what food is seasonal to this season, what recepes, activities, feasts, plants, trees, traditions etc. And maybe even more on a psychological or biological (body need) level, it helps me not only appreciate winter more but also grow into the habit of living seasonally and not looking at winter as something hard to be endured but just as part of a cycle that is natural, a bit ike you hinted at.
ah thank you for your RUclips, I hope you don't ever feel pressure making them :) it was so cosy, and I'm about to read wintering! Finishing just kids by Patti smith right now which is soo tasty.
so glad you posted! I've been feeling down all day (partly about winter) and it was great to hear you talk about Wintering. I was one of those who recommended it last year and it's made me wand to re-read it again this year. off to do a gentle yoga class in my living room, have a bath and start Wintering again this evening :) thank you, as always!
aw thank you so much Gabrielle. your evening plan sounds oh-so-soothing, hopefully it will make you feel better. time to surrender and embrace the wintering ♥️sending love to you ♥️
I think the "trick" is to go outdoors (try to) every day even in "bad" weather - not only good for circadian rhythm but also to actually enjoy coziness inside! But i admit it was harder for me to enjoy winter in the Netherlands than it is in Bordeaux in the southwest we have muuuch more sunshine and mild weather. (But lots of ocean rain too ☔) also whenever I can't wait for spring I remember myself that Id never want to swap seasons for 25-30 degrees and sun all year round😅 seasons remind us how everything changes all the time and each season has specific qualities and makes us appreciate the next season even more. In Bordeaux we had several (!) Weeks of 40+ Celsius and cold weather was a literal dream back then.
I enjoy winter, bringing out the duvet and winter woolies, snuggling up on the sofa with a good book and having early nights. Fortunately here in Barcelona we still get lots of sunshine in winter. Yes, Wintering is a wonderful book, you've inspired me to read it again. X
Recently moved to a town with a colder climate during the rainy season so I will be embracing my rain jacket and layers for walks in the forest this winter. 🌧 (And most definitely looking for Wintering at my library!! Thanks for the rec. 💛)
ngl winter has been tough for me this year. love fall, especially in nyc but the dark evenings have been really difficult for me and my body clock. just treated myself to some bath goodies from the lush near me earlier today and focusing on winding down in the evenings with my cat and spending time in the sun when it's out :))
A recommendation on a vegan Worcester sauce switch: Henderson’s relish. It’s delicious and we’re brought up on it in Yorkshire. Happy cosy season all x
If you were to make pancakes in every single yt video for the rest of your life I'd absololutely still love it every single time! do you have any fave home workouts that you so on yt? 🥰
Love the sound of the wintering book. Will add it to my storyworth. Something I’ve been struggling with living in the Southern Hemisphere is that the mainstream stuff is geared to Northern Hemisphere seasons and I don’t think I’ll ever get used to it 😅
Every year I get a little bit better at understanding my winter emotions and February is always my worst month but this year I'm lucky because I'll be escaping back home to Australia in Feb to visit my brother and sister in law who are having twin boys so ill be cuddling new borns and swimming in the sea which should be a great end of winter boost 🥰
I will be having nightly cozy tea or cocoa and watching the new season of Hell’s Kitchen. And walking my dog in his new jacket which makes walking in the dark a little brighter 🤩
If you haven't already you need to add Henderson's Relish to your food cupboard. It's like Worcester sauce but much better and 100% vegan! From a Sheffield girl ☺️ x
There’s a Swedish brand called Emmy Design that have exactly that House on the Prairie-style of clothing, although I can’t claim to know how sustainable they are 😅
