im the only lazy one 🤣 but recently i did a rear diffuser for my brothers car on his Model Y, i ended up removing the bumper and it honestly wasnt too much work
My 2018 Model 3 had adhesive behind the factory reflectors which were impossible to pry off, making your directions not useful for me. I ended up finding the video "Installation of knight rider turn signal indicators" from RPM Tesla and I drilled mine out per their instructions. Notwithstanding, glad I found this video cuz it gave me the confidence to pursue this project in the first place.
3:54 Solution: Cut 18 inches from the end of the top wire. Connect cut wire to bottom light connector. Now you have a wire long enough to feed from the bottom. Use wire hanger to help feed wire from bottom hole to top hole if necessary. Get a new wire connector to rejoin the cut pieces.
Really cool! 🔥🔥 Hadn't even seen these before. Too bad it isn't working as it should but I think I'd actually prefer it this way. Especially with them staying on together with the tail lights. Not that I can use them anyway, illegal to replace the reflectors and add more lights over here. 🙁 But definitely nice for those that can use this.
I heard in some states you can get a ticket for the lights staying on all the time when you have your lights on at night because then they are considered fog lights and if there is no fog they have to remain off.
Thank you for biting the bullet and trying these out. These are just a **little** too cheesy for me, and I wouldn't have known if you didn't try them out and also discover that they were incorrectly spec'd for the US. If they 1) better match the OEM light color and 2) dial back the animation a bit I can see this as a nice little project! 🙌🏾👏🏾👏🏾👍🏾
Haha yeah normally I’d say no especially I make fun of all WRXs with their 3rd brake rain lights. But these were sent to me for my review and I don’t mind the subtle uniqueness added. I feel like I want to use my signal every time a fellow model 3 is behind me now haha
Thanks for this video, helped me a lot. I couldnt pull out the bumper at the top as much as you can, so instead, i just cut the long wire, pushed it up from the bottom hole, and it just popped right up. Then i just had to re solder the 4 wires, it turned out great. Mine didnt have the blinking brake lights. When i stepped on the brakes, it just turn on solid. I think it all depends which vender, and which Tesla model year you have.
@@TeslaDIY Correction, i just found out that everything works well only when driving in the day time, the brake lights turn on and off solid. But when i drive at night with all the driving lights on, when i brake, the left lights blinks 3 times then solid, but the right light turns on solid without blinking. :O
What happens if you plug in the turn signal but leave the brake plug unplugged? Will it stay lit when your low beams are on? Or will it only work when you use the turn signal? I think I would prefer not to have it work when I’m braking due to regen brake activating so often that it’ll annoy the drivers behind me.
Nope, because the oem tail light shares the same light for turn and brake, so power is feeding the brake light, turn signal only trigger it to blink. If no power to “brake”, the light won’t come on at all. If you don’t want the light to blink when you brake, simply plug in both sets of wire, then these reflectors will work as turn signal only
@@TeslaDIY thank you, I guess I’ll plug both wires in and run it the same way you did then. Hope it arrives soon, I also have the Audi style tail lights on order from hansshow. I know a lot of people aren’t fans on it but I think it’ll look together with these.
I hear that they are working on it but I can’t say for sure. China seems to be pretty creative when it comes to coming up with new parts for our cars, however they don’t seem to know there would be issue with US Spec cars, since they have no access, now that they know, they might be able to figure out a way

I am bummed a bit that the brake light doesn't flash before turning solid. Do the later models support both? The Y? Always appreciative of all your DIY vids and knowledge share!
Good job Ray! As far as I know, all usa model 3 won’t get the hyper blink/solid brake effect, not unless you unplug the turn signal wire anyways (I forgot what color it was) or unless you run a separate power wire from the front fender side camera turn signal, all the way to the back to connect to the reflector light. Model Y works as designed, it does the sequential turn signal and rain light brake effect as it should
I have seen those, but nah, i won't be getting those, a bit chessy/ricey, even these lights are a bit chessy but im ok to leave them on, its subtle enough
@@ronm7781 just get a good grip and pull onto it, or grab a flat head, with a towel to protect the bumper and pry, do it carefully though, if you feel too much flex on the reflector, try again with better grip, tuck whatever tool you have in as far as you can and pry again
@@TeslaDIY was able to get them out and only broke 1 clip from the original reflectors - in case I want to put them back. Started on the outside edges and used two auto interior trim removal tools *wedge and crowbar looking plastic one. Was then able to get fingers underneath and they popped out. @@jamespeterson7100 I actually agree, especially since it works well on its own without affecting anything else, running it as turn signal makes braking silly since when braking it’ll light up once as turn signal
So I installed these and they actually work as brake lights. Issue is only the driver side light blinks before it goes solid. The passenger side functions normally. Any suggestions?
I did a 2021 and didn't drill a hole. The installation was similar to his. I did have a problem seating the tail lights because the harness goes through the same hole as the tail light connector
Nice job! So, if I want just parking light and the hyper flash brake light I just have to leave the turn signal wire disconnected? I wonder if I can use a diode on these wires to get it to work for everything? A pit of diodes could block feedback on the wire and it might work and only costs pennys to try. Thoughts?
