What a great idea. Most of my baking/ serving/casserole dishes are different colours. So now they will all match when on the table. Christmas and large gathering meals will all match.... I love this. Thanks ever so much Laura. By the way, you are an excellent clear and concise teacher.
What a lovely idea, Laura! Pretty dish and great cute coordinating fabrics, too. It would be fun to buy a baking dish, make this pretty cover and give as a gift. Thanks again Laura! ☺️
I just love it when you show us how to make so useful things as the baking pan cover; and I especially like how you use paper and a marker to draw out the pattern and then explain how it can be made to any size needed. LOVE that fabric choice. And I also love the baking dish - I'm guessing it's vintage because it's just so attractive with that Hob Nob glass siding - I WANT it!
Home made baked beans and fruit cobbler fresh out of the oven. Also this a great craft fair item idea or bridal shower gift made with love. Thank you for demonstrating how to accurately measure the dish.
@ Doreen Sherk - Yes, when I first saw the dish, I wanted it because of the size and the color. Then I saw the fabric! Laura, I think you should off the dish with that fabric cover as a drawing/contest to your viewers - after you've had the chance to use it for yourself of course - but just one time. 😉 Well, at least you could've told us where you bought that fabric! 😢
I am so happy you did this video! I knew there had to be a way to customize covers for each pan. And you are exactly my go to person for clear, exact directions! Thank you so much, Laura for sharing your vast knowledge with us!
Nicely done! My daughter has something like this, with the addition of a zip-closed top for a covered dish, and carrying handles. This is a great way to carry hot dishes to a family gathering or church potluck.
Great Christmas gift odea. I have a couple very elderly Aunts who bake in small containers. This will be something very useful for them! Thanks so much. The measuring part of your instruction helped me a lot on the sloped sides. You're awesome! 😃
That's a fantastic idea Laura, I'm forever using my tea-cloth to get hot pans from the oven , and it looks so good too. I love all your great ideas, thank you so much for your help I like the way you explain everything so clearly.
Love this tutorial! At first I was worried you didn't add the seam allowance then I realized the much easier way you added them! I should have known you would make it perfect! Thank you!
well Ms Laura you've done it again... Lovely tableware great usable items, just the type I love to create for my sibs at Christmas... will they be surprised. I know for a fact the most used casserole dish that goes from oven to table is our 9x13". so I can make 10 here and have them ready for Christmas Eve. yea it's in the works bc I just purchased a new FQ bundle of kitchen gadget fabrics.
Very easy to follow instructions, miss Laura. Thanks so much. I will be following your guide for all my glass food containers. God bless and much love for sharing your knowledge with us
You have the BEST IDEAS! I’m seeing this 12-22, so no time for Christmas presents for this year, but a great idea for next year as well as bridal shower first, just to name a few. Thanks for ANOTHER great sewing project idea.
Thank you for a clear explanation of drafting the pattern! And while I like your flat design, do you think we could sew up the corner seams on each fabric/batting layer before sewing around the edges and turning? I’m thinking it would work like bowl cozies?
What a brilliant idea! Takes the casserole hot pad to a whole new level.....thank you so much for this......starting on some Christmas presents right now! liked and subscribed!
what a creative project loved your tutorial very clear n easy to follow will try it my collection of casserole dishes are all different sizes i wished those 9x 13 were a standard size maybe i pick the largest pan to make my pattern
@ Wanda Adams - Yup, that was my thought too; I like to give gifts like this that are more personalized. I have another suggestion: include a couple of casserole and/or desert recipes for the size of container(s) you give. The first time (and maybe more) whenever the giftee(s) eat that recipe (and like it) they will be thankful for your friendship as well as the gift.
WOW awesome tutorial. I have a similiar pyrex dish without the handles and have been trying to make a cover for that as I use it a lot. this is great and will give it a try. Thank you. Janet
If you want to put the whole thing in the microwave, you can't use insul-brite. If you heat the casserole and THEN put it in the carrier, insulated batting would be fine
Just a trick I've been using for years ... after grading & trimming the seams, to make the turn-out easier ... Open one side of the seam towards the body of your work & press open just that seam. Turn out & voila! Pressing the seam flat is then child's play ... 😊
Laura, awesome instructions!!! I have 2 questions: I was taught to clip the rounded edges when sewing- I do like the graded look. What would be the difference in the two choices? Also wouldn’t you want to use insulbright (sp?) in place of batting? I would appreciate any knowledge, explanation, or suggestions. Thank you again for all that you do ❤️😀
Hi Laura~I love your tutorials and videos. Thank you, I have made many beautiful pieces that without your tutorials would have been scraps. I do have a project I want to try~a crockpot carrier. I am NO GOOD at pattern making. Is this something you would be willing to give a go? I know there are varying sizes of crockpots but maybe a 6 quart would be the place to start? There are so many variations. I know my crockpot is a "STAY-OR-GO" with locking handles at each end to keep the top on and is oval shaped. I just want something to put the entire crockpot in to carry easily. Maybe elastic around the top, just to catch the edges of the top, a hole at the bottom for the cord and with sturdy handles. I just don't know how to translate my vision into measurements myself, without watching the same part over & over! I cannot wait to see if you do try this...Thank you, Linda
Wow, cool, that is sooo awesome, now I have the formula to customize my casserole dishes. Thank you. That's one thing no other video does. Well except for Cheryl on The SewingroomChannel. But I haven't seen this one.
I know this is an old thread, but no one asked this. If I'm not incorrect, I assume Laura in her very good tutorial is referring to taking the casserole dish from a regular oven, not a microwave. If made from 100% cotton etc., is it safe to cook the casserole while it is sitting in the cozie? In other words, will the cozie burn? I appreciate her doing a tutorial for a container larger than a bowl. 😀
I see no need for insulated batting to just set on the table or pass around.... 2 layers of cotton & 2 layers of batting is plenty. Now if you were making an insulated carrier to take to potluck that would be where you could use expensive insulated batting to keep it warm longer. Maybe I am just thrifty but I thought Laura's way was perfect for every day use.
Hello Laura, I would like to make a holder/cozy for an ice cream container. My sister in law always has melting ice cream at dessert time! I need one for what used to be a half gallon container. Would it be possible to make a tutorial for one? I am trying to work it out in my head, and its not going well. Thanks for all the great tutorials, I learn so much from you!
Nancy be aware if you plan to microwave the pan cozy~ some plastics & metallic buttons as well as elastic don’t fare well with microwaving! Three minute threshold isn’t always a safe window.
@@mgs783 yes, you are right to clarify that. All cozys intended for microwave use should have no trim like elastic or buttons. No scrim in the batting, and the thread must be 100% cotton too. Thank you for the correction, I typed up my reply while in the midst of sewing and did not consider trims.
I have an oval bowl, I'd like to make a cozy for that. Not quite sure yet how I'm gonna do it, but I'm thinking the same way you measured this. Hope it works. If you could do help with a video it would be a great idea for one. I havent found any. Just square or rectangle ones. I'm sure many others would appreciate the help. Thank you
That's awesome! How would you make a round one? I just realized most my casseroles are made in my cast iron skillet & it definitely needs a custom cover!
I would look at a how to for a round basket and go from there, but I am sure our lovely hostess will come up with another awesome tutorial for one. I never thought about making casserole holders. I am making microwave bowl holders today, next up will be some for my corningware!
Have any of you made reversible square covers with elastic that go over the top of the dish just like for round bowl covers? If so, I’d love instructions on how to sew them!
wouldn;t it be great as a wedding or hostess gift.. why yes it would.
I just love it when you show us how to make so useful things as the baking pan cover; and I especially like how you use paper and a marker to draw out the pattern and then explain how it can be made to any size needed. Now that is a great idea, once again. Your fabric choice is perfect.

Yes, looked like chopsticks on one side
A lovely idea Laura, very handy to have ! Bright and cheerful on winter days. Thanks for sharing.
Very nice idea Laura! What a great gift to give a casserole dish with it’s own little cozy!♥️👍😎🧵
What a clever idea to have covers for the pot handles. I love this! Thank you Laura for sharing.
I love the way you explain it instead of just making it or drawing it.you point to the diagram and the dish
❤ how well you explain your steps. Thanx for NOT taking each seam to the sewing machine. (That wears me out.) You are very professional.
Great Christmas gift odea. I have a couple very elderly Aunts who bake in small containers. This will be something very useful for them! Thanks so much. The measuring part of your instruction helped me a lot on the sloped sides. You're awesome! 😃
Thank you Laura for sharing your pattern and showing us how to create this great pattern x
Ok, I'm ready to make one of these. Thinking these will make good Christmas gifts for all my sister-in-laws!
That's a fantastic idea Laura, I'm forever using my tea-cloth to get hot pans from the oven , and it looks so good too. I love all your great ideas, thank you so much for your help I like the way you explain everything so clearly.
Laura that was so well done. I can’t wait to make some as gifts (dish included of course). You are such a great teacher👏🏻
Love this tutorial! At first I was worried you didn't add the seam allowance then I realized the much easier way you added them! I should have known you would make it perfect! Thank you!

Love this idea! Will try it. It would also be great to have something similar for taking the dish to a potluck meal. Thanks.
That's what I was thinking also
You have the BEST IDEAS! I’m seeing this 12-22, so no time for Christmas presents for this year, but a great idea for next year as well as bridal shower first, just to name a few. Thanks for ANOTHER great sewing project idea.

Great example on how we can make our own patterns. Thank you!
Yes it is, need to make one for my cast iron
What a brilliant idea! Takes the casserole hot pad to a whole new level.....thank you so much for this......starting on some Christmas presents right now! liked and subscribed!
You can make a plain clear Pyrex dish coordinate with your dishes this way!
So cute. What a great gift idea too. Thank you for sharing.
what a creative project loved your tutorial very clear n easy to follow will try it my collection of casserole dishes are all different sizes i wished those 9x 13 were a standard size maybe i pick the largest pan to make my pattern
This would make a great wedding shower gift. You could buy the dish and make the holder for the bride to be.
@ Wanda Adams - Yup, that was my thought too; I like to give gifts like this that are more personalized. The first time (and maybe more) whenever the giftee(s) eat that recipe (and like it) they will be thankful for your friendship as well as the gift.
Again, you are a clever woman.
Love this tutorial, thank you! How would I apply this to an oval casserole dish?
Thank you for showing all the measuring. Was having the worst time figuring it out myself.
WOW awesome tutorial. I have a similiar pyrex dish without the handles and have been trying to make a cover for that as I use it a lot. this is great and will give it a try. Thank you.
Janet
Your tutorial was way better than the others I’ve seen.
Love this!! My daughter has a glass dish that’s 7x5 and 1.5 inches deep… she asked for a cozy. Can this be made without the elastic and buttons?
Wow I really like this. I would use insulated batting. Is there a reason why you didn’t?
If you want to put the whole thing in the microwave, you can't use insul-brite. If you heat the casserole and THEN put it in the carrier, insulated batting would be fine
I have been looking on Pinterest for a pattern to do exactly this! Like your method the best. Time to get started! Thanks so much!
Just a trick I've been using for years ... after grading & trimming the seams, to make the turn-out easier ...
Open one side of the seam towards the body of your work & press open just that seam. Turn out & voila!
Pressing the seam flat is then child's play ... 😊
That’s so great for the holiday season coming up.
Beautiful! Thanks for passing on all of your great ideas!

Also wouldn’t you want to use insulbright (sp?) in place of batting? I would appreciate any knowledge, explanation, or suggestions. Thank you again for all that you do ❤️😀
Rachel Burgener graded edges make the seams lay flatter and less bulky when the project is turned
Thank You again Laura. One more thing to add to my Christmas gifts to make and I will be making some for me too. Stay Safe till the next time.

Very nice. Your videos are so easy to understand
This is so cute! Love it!!
Love this idea! Great Christmas gift.
I love this project! Thanks, Laura.
Great idea and love the fabrics
Nicely thought out and demonstrated. 😊❤️
Yes, it was well thought out and easy to follow
Fabulous tutorial. Now to have a go at a 13 X 9 Pan I have.
Well described, very good tutorial, thankyou
WOW Laura that is a really good tutorial THANK YOU !!!

Yes I think that would be extra insulated to do that.
LOVE THIS...excellent tutorial...thanks so much!
Could you use Insulbrite for the wadding?
What a great idea! I have been looking for a crockpot carrier. Any chance you would could help me out?
Use the same method to measure the container but I would use insul-brite just change the measurements.
Hello, this is a great idea! Thank you 😁💚 Erica x

let me work on it
Very cute. But I have managed to get my casserole dishes to the table with pot holders, for many years. 😃😃
KATHRYN LETCHFORD this option however you can keep at the table and will assist your guests to pass the dish around.
And it’s cute. Could use the same fabric or coordinating ones, no matter how your dishes look, all will look nice.
What a great idea. Thanks for sharing
Thanks very lovely project. Thanks for the idea.
I love this. Great instructions😊
Use 100 % cotton batting and thread and it will be microwave safe, only heat it for 3 minutes max.
Nancy be aware if you plan to microwave the pan cozy~ some plastics & metallic buttons as well as elastic don’t fare well with microwaving! Three minute threshold isn’t always a safe window.

I know it’s probably not still available but I love the vintage bowl material can you let me know the name of it? Please.
You need to use insul bright, so you don’t burn your hands
Hi, thanks, love your video, I hear your bracelet knocking.
Great pattern, thank you
Really love this carrier.
Well done. & you showed how yo change the pattern😊.
Just what I need to make. Thank you.
Great idea

Muy bello thanks
This is GREAT! Thanks
What a great Idea!
Excellent!
Love it! Thank you. 💞
Have any of you made reversible square covers with elastic that go over the top of the dish just like for round bowl covers? If so, I’d love instructions on how to sew them!
Your thread storage! 😯
So, why did you not use Insul-bright as part odf the insulation , instead of all that batting? Is it not available in Canada?
I just didn't have any on hand lol :)
I like the fit better when I also flared the corners
Very informative. Thank you
It's sooo cool 👍👍 thanks for the good video
Would the buttons and elastic melt?
So cute!
Muito lindo e útil!!
❤️
Very nice!
🤩
I do not want to use buttons. What else can I use
love
