The only problem I’m having using the drums in GarageBand is getting them to cut through the mix but have some fun. Are you using the 11 band EQ that you can get for the track?

I'd have to go back to the project to see what I used. But GB drums can be some work to get them to sound good if you are talking the stock Smart drummers. .

A work-around for better mixing of GB's drummer tracks can be achieved with the followig method:
      > Get the drums you want from the drummer track - all the fills and tweaks to the rhythms and such - just as you normally would; get everything dialed in.
      > Create a new midi track; set the midi instrument on this new track to be the same as the drums used by the auto-drummer you selected.
      > Click the track header of the auto-drummer track to select all regions; then with the regions highlighted, use the 'copy' keyboard command (cmd + "c").
      > Then select your newly created midi track by clicking the track header there; set the beat marker to the appropriate location, and paste in the stuff you just copied with the paste command (cmd + "v").
      > You'll notice that the drum regions have transformed from audio to midi; bring up the piano roll with the keyboard shorcut "b" so you can begin editing.
      > The midi notes of the drums are assigned a single note on the piano roll for each of the individual drum parts; to isolate each one for proper mixing, you'll need to create a new midi instrument track for each note representing a drum part.
      > Copy and paste all the original regions into however many new midi intrument tracks you created, then in the piano roll, delete all the notes that are not the one you intend to isolate on this particular track.
It's a bit tedious, but you'll be able to seperate all the individual drum sounds and mix them however you want.
      Cheers.. 🤘

Epic tutorial man ! But do I need to purchase Tse pedal that you mentioned or it's already in the garage band ?

The TSE 808 is a free plugin you can download. No license required. Good Luck

How do you actually add it?

I've added it to Library > Audio > Plug-Ins > Components/VST for each file, rested GB and restarted the Mac and it's still not picking it up.

Rich, this is amazing! I'm brand new to distorted tones in Garageband - They take a lot more dialing in than the clean ones, and I found it super frustrating. This video has my tones sounding better than ever! Just subscribed. Appreciate all that you're doing!

I love it when viewers find these useful! I struggled for some time also to get decent tones. Glad you enjoyed it, and I welcome any other feedback you have.

I need to tell you: I’m traditionally a voice actor and have lots of experience using DAWs like Audition. However I’m new to Macs and GarageBand, plug-ins, mastering instruments, etc. I’m also new to playing guitar and just plink around in drop d playing metal riffs.
Tonight I decided to try to record a simple metal style jingle with my edrum kit and epiphone for my Twitch channel and stumbled across your video.
After three hours of stumbling around the frets and experimenting with a melody and using your amp examples, I produced something that actually sounds half good.
Thank you so much! You’ve opened my eyes to something I never thought I could do!

It’s a free plug in that can be added. There’s a link for TSE Audio and it’s a few years old, but I think the free download is still available
