I miss a good campfire!!! Oh well soon enough the fire ban will be lifted and campfires will be safe again! I heard from some people that they would cancel a camping trip if it was too hot and they could not have a fire, would you? Thanks for watching.
I wouldn't cancel a trip because of a fire ban, but to be honest if you combine the fire ban, bug season and the xtreme heat i would probably stay at home!
@@jakeoshea6804 Yeah! Over 22 degrees C. at night on Crotch Lake is very hot. I can recall an American from Florida coming down to our cabin on King's Lake below the dam and saying as he rubbed his hands together, "Man! How cold did it get last night?" He and his wife actually put on a fire to keep warm at night sometimes in July.
@@jakeoshea6804 The Crotch Lake insects kept me in my screened in porch in July. I loved our cabin in the first week of Sept though. No insects biting. And the weather was still lovely and you could still swim off the point.
Great video! I agree that even under some not so great circumstances, being out camping is better than not being out. I still have yet to get out this year, and your video is really making me itch to get out there! Happy adventuring!
Great video Dave. We all were sat in the truck while camping in the rain and you were the highlight for the evening. As always enjoy the camping updates.
I enjoyed the video of an area I'm very familiar with while sitting in my basement at the computer with the air conditioning on here in Kingston. Only 90 minutes away, but the temp. is usually a lot hotter and the humidity extreme compared with the area around Crotch Lake and King's Lake.
Beautifully shot David. Those thunderstorms can catch you without notice. I am glad you were okay. That was nice of you to do a shootout for other channels, have you thought about doing a collab with another camping channel?
Thanks Sabrina, I appreciate it. I haven't thought much of doing a collab, I really do enjoy the solo camping aspect, although doing a video with someone else would probably be a lot of fun. Thanks for watching
Here I am we in Ontario also had a fire ban, we were allowed propane , but now July 11 we are allowed a fire in some places , suck's about the fishing rod at least your out enjoying nature camping , Lovley spot your at with epic views . id not cancel a camping trip just because i could not have a fire as for the bugs id use bug deterrent cream, and bug jacket. aww cute chipper. Pancakes looked tasty to me Dave. true anyday camping is a good day. Another epic video thank you. congratulations on the sub's .
Hey Dave! Really enjoyed your video and the filming, some great shots. Also really appreciate the shootout! Been a while since I’ve been able to get out but your video makes me want to plan my next trip. Thank you!!
Hey Jake, sorry I just saw your comment. Thank for watching. I enjoy your videos so I am happy to mention your channel. I hope you get out on another trip soon!
Hey, I was waiting for a time lapse to pop up ;) Thanks for the memories, I really had a great experience at that site (2021)...but I also had 4 days, no fire ban and great night skies. Sorry you had a rough one. I'm going to send you some screen grabs comparing the water levels from the time I was there.
Thanks Michael. The plan was to shoot the stars that night but it was getting cloudy and I didn't want to take a chance of rain with the camera, but I can't wait to shoot the stars again. I did like this site but there was too much fishing traffic for me. I like it a bit more quiet, but it was still a good trip.
Thanks Dennis. The stove was from FireMaple. It is a Jetboil knock off. It was a gift from the kids last year. It does a decent job...although I prefer to cook on the campfire!
Dave, I just now grabbed that tent for a hair over fifty usd because today is Prime Day and there’s a thirty percent off deal 👍🏻 Congratulations on reaching the 1000 mark🎉🍻 I subscribed to Castaway TV. I’ll give him a look see 👍🏻
Nice. I really like this tent. I was sent it for free but I really do like it. I haven't tried it in really bad weather but so far so good. I hope you enjoy it. I think you'll enjoy Castaway TV!
Congrats on hitting 1000 subscribers. Well deserved I never miss one of your videos. The heat sucks probably worse than the bugs IMO. I love the channel shoutout, good for you I have always thought the big guys should do that as well, we are all a close knit community. I like Jake's channel as well. So were you skinny dipping there? be honest!
Another great video day beautiful spot. I have watched your videos long enough to know how much you enjoy a good campfire, sorry about that. How do you like using the double blade, you don't seem to use it very often?
Thanks Shane, ya not having a campfire did suck but that's life! The Double blade is good I am not going to lie, it is much easier to get around. I still need to practice with the single paddle plus there's something cool about the wooden blade!
Thanks Shane, yep I like the double blade. I think it gets a bad rap from the canoeing community. I can get much faster and further with the double blade. I have a bad shoulder but I find the double blade easier. I still like the single blade but I need to get better at it.
North. I believe the mosquitos at the 10:43mark were heading out to ''North's Diner''. You gotta quit sending them invitations.🤪🦟🦟🦟🦟🦟 I'm subscribed to several RUclips Ontario based RUclips channels that promote remote backcountry camping and canoeing. Back of the days of relying solely on topo maps & compass, a group of us spent years exploring parts of northern Ontario. Looking back, I'd say that we took a lot of risks. Though many of us have since slowed down, it's made for lifelong friendships. I do find that your channel North as well as others such as Lost lakes, Canoe the North, Camper Christina, Alec on Adventures and Exploring the Back Country all help promote and the importance of preserving our forests. Keep up the great work you are doing.
However, Crotch Lake is only about a 90 minute drive from Kingston. An hour from Perth which is, maybe, an hour from downtown Ottawa.. It's not really the North. It's to the north of Southeastern Ontario, I'd say. It's protected. most of it is Crown land with a couple of lodges at one end and a recently closed camp on King's Lake by the dam. There are a few private cabins as well. The videographer didn't show the jet skis or the boats racing around, but he mentions them so I guess they are out there still although not as prevalent as on southern Ontario lakes, I guess. We cottaged on Sand Lake near Tweed and another lake to the west of Crotch Lake near Plevna as well Verona Lake / Sand Lake near Verona, Ontario years ago. I'm sure Crotch Lake has still less boat traffic than a lot of those lakes today.
Ya it's funny on how some places had fire bans for a long time while other places did not. In early June I did a trip and I had an entire lake to myself and that area did not have a fire ban but every other area around there did. I decided not to a fire. Two days later the Centennial Lake fire started. Scary. I hope you enjoyed your fire!
Canoeing at 40C...no thank you, lol! Fire bans suck but are necessary. Another great island spot...question, do you bring water with you or do you have some sort of filter system?
Water in Crotch Lake is very clean. An American tested it years ago back home and it was absolutely drinkable. It might be a good idea to take it from the middle of the lake though.
Ya it was a wee bit hot! I did bring water with me, about 2 litres, but I drank that on my way paddling to the site! I have a water filter so I can filter the lake water. I drank over 8 litres of water in 24 hours it was so hot...and only peed twice! lots of sweating.

Thanks guys. I hope you enjoyed your camping trip, is there a new video coming out about the trip?

Ha, thanks. Glad you could enjoy the video in the rain. I kinda like the sound of the rain when sleeping in the car. Have a good trip.

If I’m sleeping in a $50 tent, I’ve got a $150 tarp to put over it incase the weather goes south on me 😆
