What a wonderful class. Mr. Andsnes is not only.a great pianist but he's a brilliant teacher as well, far from always the case. And this student is a fine pianist and very quick to respond to his suggestions.

It's so interesting when a pianist comes from a country that doesn't have a bunch of world stage instrumentalists and somehow withtheir teachers &training they are able to ascend above all the German,British,Asian and American networks in place . It happening all the time now Turkey has at least2 (Biret&FasilSay),India,Armenia even Africa and Iceland have musicians and composers in high places now
So the nervous anxiety and intensity/tension of the 4th Chopin Ballade in one lesson is not needed here but his penchant for tight focus , making a committed world , atmosphere what Debussy 's Estampes demand is still necessary . As a lifelong student it's amazing to see really what communicating music needs first from the player ! I played Jardins sous la pluie in highschool and had no idea the depth and approach needed for any music . Music study on this level -what a wonderful thing to see stuff only the most talented ,best trained musicians ever get to experience . So the average listener is just a consumer will forget the performance before the night is over just remembers the fact he heard some nice music but we play for the truth of art and it must be real if we are musicians with integrity .

Good players don't come from nowhere. There are many world class musicians from the Baltics, even 100 years ago there were well educated classical musicians. There have been also lots of piano builderers. Besides having their own rich cultural identity, the Baltic states have been strongly linked to Europe most of it's history, in every field. To say that Estonia doesn't have a bunch of world stage instrumentalists is just so wrong.
