What a treat! I drove from DC to Philly to see Leif Ove Andsnes play with the Philadelphia Orchestra, and so glad that I did!
I truly believe Andsnes is one of the most underrated pianists of our time. His technique is so fluid, yet so understated. Not a flashy pianist, but a very sincere one.
I already own most of his recordings. The overall quality of his discography is really exceptionally high, there are very few duds given the number of discs.
I agree. And I'd add that he's also an exceptionally gifted accompanist and chamber musician.
He is not underrated at all..on the contrary.
@@thepianocornertpc Whatever you say.
@@MisterPathetique ..but..please explain..underrated by whom exactly?..and don't be so pathetic, please.
@@MisterPathetique Being underrated means that someone or something is not given the level of recognition, appreciation, or acknowledgement that they deserve. It suggests that their true value or potential is not fully recognized or acknowledged by a larger audience, whether it be in the context of individuals, talents, skills, achievements, or even inanimate objects. Is that how you feel about Leif Ove Andsnes? ...him playing all over the world in sold-out top concert halls? His Beethoven Journey a few years ago was received enthusiastically worldwide by legions of piano and music aficionados..no?! you just have a room temperature IQ, is it not?
One thing I love about him (aside from his marvelous play) is his personality. My dad used to play in the chamber orchestra of Europe, where they played a lot with him, and they became friends. It is so amazing to see him just being a normal, humble individual!
36 hours is insane! what a man
A stunning array of synaptic nerves and mitochondrial development tempered with humility and genuine musical communication.
One of top supreme masters of the piano of his generation and of today.
He's one of my favorites. I always go back to his recordings. Amazing artist
What an amazing memory. He makes a beautiful sound too. Lovely interview. Thank you.
I’ve had the pleasure of playing for him in masterclass. Brilliant musician and human being.
This is a wonderful video format, I could have kept watching and listening for another hour. Please give us more of this!
I can see Ben enjoying every moment of live piano playing of Leif! It's amazing to see the respect of a musician towards another musician, it's so nice!
I love Andsnes's recording of Chopin's Cello Sonata with Truls Mørk. In my opinion, the best recording of the piece.
Love this pianist! His recording of Bartok's second piano concerto is one of my favorites
I was introduced to Leif Ove Andsnes through the beautiful album "Mozart Momentum - 1786." It seems that perhaps this album won't be included in the box set, judging by the video prologue at the beginning. But what an amazing collection this is across the years, and some wonderful treasures indeed!!!
Please do 36 hours of this. Just wonderful
One of my lifelong heroes. I was fortunate enough to meet him in Antwerpen in 2017 after one of his concerts on his Sibelius tour. Very enjoyable content Tonebase!👍
Got your answer with Kissin's slow and thoughtful rendering of Rach 3 some weeks ago now! You can hear every detail! It's amazing 🤩
Wonderful, thank you, maestro!
I'm old enough to own his recording of Grieg/Liszt2. Still play it on occasion to this day while enjoying a fine cognac and a roaring fire.
The first time I ever heard Leif play was his concert on Mozart's G major piano concerto (No. 17), and I felt this was the most powerful interpretation I'd ever heard and all that happened in a live performance! I still hold that opinion today, though I know more of his recordings. Amazing pianist and definitely my top 10 Mozart interpreter!
I recently heard him playing Rach 3 in my city, truly a magnificent pianist, very powerful but not in a flashy, vulgar way, full of class but also of strength
Thank you, wonderful Andsnes in all his repertoire. Liked the notes.
I'm not a piano player and I never will be a piano player, but I love Tonebase videos! Another excellent offering!
Excellent vídeo, Leif Ove is a wonderful pianist!! Tonebase is increasing always the quality, bringing us with that!! Thanks, ❤❤ so much👏👏👏
My favorite pianist ever! And also my favorite live version of Rachmaninoff 3rd piano concerto with Paavo Berglund and the Oslo philarmonic orchestra. A truly inspiration in my life! Thanks for sharing Greetings from Mexico!
He is incredible!
Espléndido video. En realidad, todo lo que viene haciendo tonebase es absolutamente increíble para quienes amamos el piano.
This is a wonderful video. It was fun to listen to but informative as well. What great idea. It's so interesting to hear his recollections and perspectives on his music journey.
Absolutely lovely video with Leif Ove Andsnes! Thank you for sharing 🤗
A Magnificent Concert 🎵 Pianist. A wonderful video 💎
Such an amazing interview.
What a lovely video. Thanks, Ian, Leicester UK.
That Janacek disc is one of my favourite piano albums of all time, it's pure magic. I think this music has never been better recorded.
Excellent video! Great job Ben! 👍
this channel rules. Great interview.
Amazing journey ❤
Dude this guy is a savant. I bet he could play all 36 hours by memory still- or very close!
I'm sure you're correct!
i don't think he is autistic
@@Samuri_Jack_Enjoyeryou can be a savant and not be autistic.
@@bartwatts1921 yes but usually a savant has a significant intellectual disability. This guy is a prodigy
imagine if someone kept him hostage for 36 hours to play all his repotoaire
Don't give yt chat any ideas.
I heard him at the Cliburn competition when he was very young. He did the Beethoven Eroica Variations. Very moving and beautiful.
His Greig Concerto is my favorite. I can play it too, but nowhere near as well as he can.
Sanjosemike (no longer in CA)
Thank you Leif for sharing your wisdom with us. What about another hour?
whoa didn't know the nielsen and i love it
Came here from his performance of the Mozart 22 with the Berlin Philharmoniker that I was listening to on their app.
Another typical Andsnes W
How could he stop right at the climax during Rach 3 haha
❤
Thumbs up for the Rach bubble gum shirt. 👍
I would get RUclips Premium just to watch ToneBase videos without advertisements…
Ok, this video is 25 mins, there's 35 and a half hours missing! Lol
this channel highlights rach 3 too much.. what about the rachmaninoff piano concert 1 or 4???? (which Andsnes both recorded.........)
Rach 3 triumphs over ALL 😊
@@Ben-kh2rh Rach 3 may be the most architecturally imposing but rachmaninoff 4 has the best harmonies, orchestral colours, and a sort of Ravelian rhythmic fizziness to it..
0:36 Umm, no. "Dropping the needle" is what us old people did to listen to our classical music LPs back in the days before the world went insane.
Wait until you hear that "heart of gold" doesn't literally refer to metal organs
This channel has really fallen off. All about the subscription model now huh?
You classical cats are alright. But... Why can't you swing? I never got that. There's a world in swing triplets. No need to be so formal all the time.
Also, so you guys ever write your own songs? Or even own arrangements?
You just don’t seem to understand that is the strange thing about your message. André Previn though is a classic example of being able to play in both styles.
His recording of the complete Beethoven and Rachmaninov Concertos is without equal.
