I've never heard it sung like this. Never. Cantabile. Molto espressivo. With such heart. So genuine. No sense of performance. You were the words and the music. Your phrasing, your breathing. Virtuosity without any showiness. None. Full voice but exquisitely intimate. As though you were singing to each listener. You sang this in 2013? It's 2019. I have to see what's happened to you. Your accompanist was wonderful. I would like to have played it instead. Thank you. You have a great gift.

    Sure on this shining night
    Of star made shadows round,
    Kindness must watch for me
    This side the ground.
The late year lies down the north.
All is healed, all is health.
    High summer holds the earth.
    Hearts all whole.
Sure on this shining night I weep for wonder wand'ring far
    alone
    Of shadows on the stars.

Beautiful song! Barber creates an atmosphere through the plaintive melody and
harmonies very American . Has a soaring quality extremely expressive. Similar to his treatment in Knoxville.

Excellent technique and bearing. Beautifully expressed -- you breathe life into the music and text but you don't overlay it -- i.e., you don't gild the lily. Bet it sounded all the more spectacular live in the hall. Glad I stumbled across this. Congrats and thanks.

This is a recital piece of mine from 30 years ago. Hearing your performance stirred me to my soul and brought back so many memories. The texture of you voice, the emotions the interpretation of the lyric stirs within the listener reach a new level. What are you doing now? Where do you perform?

    • @Dewario
      @Dewario 6 лет назад

While I do think this is really high quality singing, she sounds like she's intentionally darkening her sound to achieve that "Fleming-esque" sound.
I would like to hear her sing with less of that forced production. I think it's also causing her diction to be muddled. For example, @0:52 "All is healed" is so open that her diction suffers, in my opinion.
All that being said, this is one of my favorite versions of this piece on RUclips! Definitely will be checking out more of her stuff!
