- Yes, that's right! Expert also gets Extra stages. you've seen how Beginner Extra takes you on a tour through Story Mode and is thus a step above Beginner in difficulty, and how Advanced Extra turns up the heat a bunch from Advanced. Well, you can deduce that Expert Extra would do the same for Expert.
But wait, you wonder--how could things be that much harder than what you've seen? Well, you're not thinking creatively enough. They get downright sadistic here:

EX 7 Pendulums
EX 8 Conical Slider

"Charge" refers to charging ahead, not as in an electric charge or any. What you're supposed to do here is use the teleportation gates to build up speed so you can bounce up to reach the platform with the goal. Think with portals.
"Strata" is the plural of "stratum," which mean layers of stuff. The most common use of this term is for sedimentary rock, which form many distinct layers with squiggly lines dividing them. The weird jagged shaped platforms at the end of Strata resemble those sedimentary layers.
"Puzzle" refers to a slide puzzle, of course. This can be very tough if you find yourself chasing the goal. Of course, you can "solve" this Puzzle by going to the second column from the left for two panels, then turn right and go another two panels, then turn left to get to the panel with the goal. This allows you to avoid getting caught on any platforms while moving.
Giant Swing is a stage that usually gets me. I have a much harder time here than with any other Expert Extra stage. So just because I didn't die a lot here doesn't mean it's not hard for me, That being said, I can get to the platform with the goal if I land on the swing at about 31 or 30 seconds left--I just tend to go careening out if I don't try to smack into the goal myself.
The stage 5 Drums is frequently mistakenly called simply "Drums." I'd presume it's because of it being the 5th stage and thus people might forget about the second numeral 5.
If you're not familiar with basketball, a free throw is an attempt to shoot (throw) a basketball into a basket while standing still, with no interference from other players. Of course, chucking a ball with your hands is a lot easier than with a flipping platform, which is why it's here. Also, a Green Goal and a Red Goal exist in Free Throw. They, in addition to the normal goal, are all somewhat equally hard to reach. I would've hoped for the Red Goal. It wouldve allowed me to skip the difficult Pendulums and Conical Slider.
Construction is the very, very last of the maze stages in this game. It sort of resembles that mission in Super Mario Galaxy's Melty Molten Galaxy, huh? You know, "Through the Meteor Storm." Though that one was way, way gentler than this.
For Train Worm, it looks like the idea is to get onto the worm and ride it to the goal. Personally, I prefer to sidle next to it and go in the same direction, then slip into the goal following behind.
Oh yeah, and by finishing Expert Extra without using any continues, you get the Master difficulty. Only 10 stages exist here, but they get even crazier than what you see here.

i question how a child could possibly perform the specific finger gymnastics and have the proper knowledge of theoretical physics needed to beat these levels

I beat the Expert levels of SMB1 at age 7-9 (can't remember)
I beat the whole game unlocked everything in like 2004 and im 21 now lol

I remember Expert Extra. On that night when I breached Air Hockey with all of my continues unscathed, my glee turned to frustration as one stage blocked the path to victory: folks, I'm talking about Strata. Night slipped on as my continues began to fade away; all because of that last drop to the goal. Controller in hand, I dozed off to sleep.
Then the next morning, I beat the everloving crap out of Strata and the rest of Expert Extra. Finally, I be - WHAT DO YOU MEAN THERE'S A 'MASTER' MODE?
“I reached the extra stages! I’m so cool!” 😂
If only these days returned.
I cant imagine doing theses stages myself. It take many hours for me.
free throw is definetly an easy stage for you. You made it look easier than stage 1 of begginer!

Construction made me realize I was mortal after all. 10+ years later I vow to get my revenge!
Edit: Still to this day I can't believe it got me. I got there with like 60+ lives and still couldn't beat it. I felt so defeated, never gone back to the game since.
Construction is a maze. In order to get to the end, you have to find the right path.
+Overhazard I figured it was, but couldn't find the route. No idea if it's a hard route to find or that I just didn't have it that day. I'd like to think that I've grown as a gamer since I was 14 and can beat it today^^

If you follow the route I took in this video, you can reach the goal. The first time I went through this game, I spent a good 30 minutes looking at the stage view in the pause screen to figure out its solution.

I never got to make it to this stage because I never got to beat Giant Swing!
These are pretty easy, even master and it’s extra stages aren’t to challenging. If you want a real challenge, expert floor 7 from smb1 (Exam C in deluxe) is where it’s at 😂
And if you get through the master stages without using a continue You go to the master extras

Actually, I didn’t struggle too much with that stage. But yeah, Super Monkey Ball 2’s main mode gets hard after Expert Mode.

It’s the GameCube having been turned into a stage to end the Challenge Mode of SMB2.

you are very good at most of these ( especially strata! ) . every one who says pendulums is hard, PENDULUMS IS NOT HARD! Ou of all the times I have played expert extra i have only fallen once ( first try). It is the 2nd easiest there! my opinion
get master by completing every mode 100% then play Master 1 through Master Extra 9, then after extra 9, you will find the gamecube as extra 10, it is insanely hard!!! I only beat it once.

I miss this game. I cleared story mode, STUPID WORLD 7 AND ARTHROPOD SUCKS
... Not sure what to say but I don't really know y extra 9 was called construction it's just a maze I would more think 2 construction things digging down trying to find the goal

They stages are hard, but why is the goal areas always so huge? Or the starting area for that? What I loved about the first one was the arcade like quality about it, how the stages were compact and small but still presented a hard challenge
The starting spot is likely to allow you to get a good view of the stage and prepare yourself with a running start. Personally, I prefer the larger, more dynamic stages of Super Monkey Ball 2 over Super Monkey Ball 1 though. This was the first Super Monkey Ball game I played, and the first game's stages feel so cramped and basic to me.

This is my childhood game.
This looks as roughly as hard as solving a Rubiks Cube in 60 seconds. Master will likely be as hard as the same thing, but with one hand.
I know someone who can always solve a Rubik's Cube within 35 seconds, and most of the time within 30.
You should introduce him/her to this game. S/he'd probably be good at it.
