Glad to see a review of this car without smoky burnouts or crazy drifts; driven as a typical driver would.
Yes, like most people will drive it!
But,……….if you were out on a desolate backroad strip of asphalt and there’s nobody around, you know it would light ‘em up!😉. 😁
such a professional adult review . You guys are excellent
The dealerships in the USA are going to kill this one too. Double-MSRP markups and they just don't care. They know they'll get the dude with daddy's money who'll buy it "just to have it or to be first on his street to have one"
This really was a fun video, but I’m thinking along the same lines. Corporate needs to get a handle on these dealerships. I personally wouldn’t do these reviews which frankly act as free advertising until they produce enough vehicles for the demand and get their dealers under control. It’s almost to the point of why bother watching anymore. Same goes for Lexus (NX350h), Toyota (rav4 Prime) etc…
Yeah..and the dude with daddy's money will "improve" it with a tune kit, aftermarket wheels that will hamper handling and of course a loud exhaust.
I feel sorry for ya. I’ve been fortunate to basically know someone at my work place, has a wife working for Nissan, who doesn’t do Markups. Not a single cent of markup. Already been in talks and soon about I get this beast.
3 dealers in my city and they want $99k for the proto Z ....
@@ACommenterOnRUclips I think that is only because the proto is a limited production car. I've seen a few places where they are selling the new sport and performance model Z for MSRP. $53423 CDN for the Sport, and $60793 CDN for the Performance. On the autotrader site theirs even a couple Protos for sale for $78K. I'm on the west coast.
You both enjoy evaluating vehicles. You have found your "niche". All the best in your test drives. 😊
Thank you so much, we do have a lot of fun!
Quite the car. This brings back memories of my Datsun 1973 240 zed , the best car I ever owned. Now that we are older our ride is a 2021 RAV4 hybrid limited , blueprint with tan interior.
Nicely done rowing through the gears Andrea! That’s exactly why we have two hands and two feet!
I really enjoy three pedal driving as well.
Nissan has always done a great job on their Z. 90s 300ZX has been an instant classic since its inception. While the previous 370Z had early Renault era's very cheap interior, it remained a great performance buy. Although my favourite kind of sports car should be lightweight, like MX-5 and 86/BRZ, Z is too heavy for its own good.
On the other hand.
With MotoringTV been retired, I hope you guys keep producing excellent content with Canadian taste and preference. Also our appetite for cars with lots of value-for-money. Continue their spirit of "Stories of cars and people who drive them".
Another great review from you guys! Keep it up!
Thank you so much!
Happy about this car. Love Andrea ripping it. Ppl please please keep buying manuals.
It really is a lot of fun!
So for $12,000 CDN (performance edition), you get a fancy stereo, wifi, bigger wheels and something that should be standard on all models Limited slip diff. So the base model gets one-wheel drive, something that should have been left in the 80's on anything calling itself a sports car. Of course this was noted in a more diplomatic way by our hosts.
Nissan Z400 looking absolutly beautiful 😍😍😍
All the comments on the spinning tires - dump the OEM Bridgestone Potenzas with a better set of tires and that problem is solved! I still have my '06 350Z and once I got rid of those stock tires, traction was phenomenally better! Not sure why they stuck with those crap tires, but a gorgeous car and great job by Nissan!
Huge Z fan. I have owned a 260, 280 and a 350z currently for the past 12 yrs. Won the Ontario and Canadian Autocross Championship with it. As far as the tires in the rain, Zs have a light back end. Get better tires once the stocks wear out. You will find the tires slip even when dry if it's cold out off the line at times. Don't buy new, the value is when they are 2‐3 yrs old. Let the hype die down.
Z. Owner. 370z... Luv.. ❤.my z.
1 year later, and They're already 5k off msrp and used ones are $8k off msrp
Nissan is proving their worth. I see a great value in their mid tier car model specs . I am considering getting one.
Great value for more than the price of a gtr. Ha. Gotta love that 50 to 70k markup.
I agree with Andrea that the front needs help with that rectangle. Someone should put a rectangular monitor inside the grill that scrolls through photos of nicer grills. (Ok, once again I’ve taken an idea too far.)
Love the review. Nice to see you guys test a manual trans. I think Nissan should give the car to Andrea the car to do a full year long test and review and love the color.
I factory ordered a Chev Caprice with a 427 and a 400 Turbohydramatic. This was in Saskatchewan. We put over 100,000 miles on it. We adjusted for winter driving conditions, but we also put winter tires on the rear. It was good for 20 mpg using the required premium gas. I hate to say it but they really don't build them like they used to. Times have changed. 👍🏻
Andrea! You naughty woman, you! Your facial expression was absolutely euphoric while driving the Z that I felt like a peeping Tammy watching your... review.
Loved your takes on the car, and the headsup on its driftiness.
Nice genuine reactions here. The front is ok, the rear is great.
It is a skating rink here at YYC today (at least during morning commute), and I saw a M3 auto (? the V8 one) driving up hills with no issues. However, many FWD vehicles (seems to have winter tires) were struggling or even stuck.
Maybe those FWD drivers were terrible drivers. I owned a Camaro for 5 years and you certainly need to be more careful in the rain with a high-torque RWD car.
I saw that Z parked during your Q4 video. I watched that scene twice just to make sure. I wondered who got a Z already. Now it makes sense
Great review as always. Manual all the way! For my wife and I, this car is on the shortlist. This car is just a performance value.
Always loved all “Zeds”! Let’s face it , these cars don’t perform as good as comp’s but I still want want one ! Don’t know what it is , just always loved them ! Also , I’m a Scotty Kilmer fan regarding turbos and stuff . ( reduces reliability ) . You guys look like you really have fun together -fantastic . I’m still looking for an older one !
Andrea's matching shirt awesome !
They have made it look similar to the original 240z and finally a good design. I first saw the 240z around 1971 at the Safari rally along with the 911's and these were the best looking sports cars. It won the rally a few times.
Choose the cheapest spec and spend the extra dough on aftermarket parts for tuning, performance and suspension bits ;) - and it'll be better than that proto spec ;)
So you guys were the one spotted driving around my area! Sad to see these cars wont even be released in canada this year due to a horrible launch
A set of Michellins completely change the dynamics of this Z.
I didn't realize there was such an homage to the ancestors there. Very nice.
Goodluck here in chicago its almost 95k for the base one and dealers are saying it is what it is. Supply and demand baby
Sorry for coming late into this review. But I'm wondering why the MAZDA MX-5 RF wasn't considered in the comparison for the "Zed" ;-)
MX-5 fits the bill for having controllable power on the road, great handling, and a fine daily driver. (C'mon Andrea! You love this car!)
I have loved Nissan sports cars back in the 80's and 90's, but have been drawn closer to getting the MX-5 RF because I feel this size, weight and performance is closer to what a sports car should be. My only issue is cargo space, but that's to be expected for any sports car.
Thanks!
MSRP: $40,000
Price at Dealerships: $80,000
Not in Canada, we don't have that stealership issue
I have owned three different Zed versions. My favorite was the 1980 10th Anniversary 280 ZX. But my days of 3-season cars in Halifax are done.
I wish that Nissan could restyle the air intake shape. It's too rectangular. A little softening or rounding of the air intake would help make the car look less static, and happier. I suspect that Nissan intentionally chose the rectangular shape to prevent the car looking too much like the Toyota GR86 from the front.
Personally in a 400hp Nissan 2 door Id stick with my Q60 redsport, better looking , more creature comforts and AWD so great all year round.
So color-coordinated Andrea! Well done 🙂
Thank you!
Wish it had a T top at least !
They didn't fix the front nose rectangle. Schade.
Agree the back end is where they nailed it. The front is where they lacked something.
Looking forward to see aftermarket kits to personalise this.
Amazing and hilarious video Andrea and Zack!
Haha thanks, glad you liked it!
The engine is like 5-6 years and is taken from Infiniti Q50/Q60 Red Sport. Unfortunately all Q60 models will be discontinued at the end of 2022
Ah… the Zed cars. Some models I absolutely love (original and 300ZX Twin turbocharged … either with T-roof!)… others less so (last gen (370Z), 2nd gen (the one with pop up headlights)). This one? I think Nissan absolutely nailed it! In every way, inside and out. I would buy one … especially over the Toyota BRZ. I even like the price. Thanks for the video.
Would I sell my 911 for it…? No.
@@kellingtonlink956 i would hope not ….
09:15 - Because - Nissan has a "partnership" with Bridgestone - and that means they put the worst of the worst tires on it OEM. Here's the catch - you can go buy the SAME tires from tirerack or discount tire, same model number, everything - and end up with better traction. The sad truth is that the tires that are shipped with the car are a cost saving measure. In reality - Nissan should have at a minimum - put the PS4S's from Michelin on the "Performance" package equipped vehicle.
Looks like the Z since the 90s. I was hoping they would design something more in line with the original.
I realize this is a performance car with 400 hp, but it would be nice if the fuel economy were a little better with the manual transmission.
just get some nicer tires and you can eliminate most of the traction issues
Great Job on the shifts Andrea.
Thank you!
I like the look of it
That front rectangular design I loved the most. Honestly.
I’ve been TRYING to get my own wife to learn how to drive a manual but to no avail.😩 On the bright side, I’ll never have to worry about her taking my car out.😃😂😂😂 Hopefully Nissan or Nismo will offer a short-throw shifter to tighten up and fix the shifting issues. Very tasteful design inside and out….will definitely age well.
Been so looking forward to this Andrea and driving with a stick manual gearbox too. This is an exciting car 🚗
Very exciting car, I had a blast!
@@andreaspencer9813 It certainly looked like you enjoyed it Andrea!
Are the tires a part of the wet traction problem?
I’d be curious to know what type of tires came on your test car? In other markets (Saskatchewan) would they come with an all season or just a summer performance tire?
You always match your shirt with your car?.. Cute
😆 They named after Zack a Z! 😆 I love your smiling Andrea, you look happy to drive this manual transmission is enough to scare Zack. 😂 Great interior design! I am glad you were having fun! 👍🏻👍🏻
Awe thank you, I just couldn't stop smiling 😊
@@andreaspencer9813 👍🏻👍🏻😀
Boxster! Agree the Z is way better looking than the twins.
Just get better tires. Traction issues seems like a hot topic in the video
You are correct sir, it's ZED not ZEE!!!!!!!!!!!🥶
Zack getting excited 😉😂
Nice review guys! Too bad that Nissan/Infiniti don't make the G37xS coupe anymore. The look of the Q60 isn't my favorite and a lot of mfgs are going back to that smooth looking body work. I love the look of the new Ferrari Roma. I have a 2012 G38xS coupe myself in RED and it's never been winter driver. It was front and rear LSDs and I've had it dyno tuned. I have a lot of aftermarket bolt-ons including a Invidia Gemini cat-back exhaust. I've changed the suspension and have wheel spacers and ajustable camber arms. And I drove it 2x in SW Florida. I can tell you that my car is fun to drive and is has very predictable handling. I belong to a car club here in Montreal and have driven Lambo, Ferrari and a NISMO GTR around a track at WOT and can honestly say that I love the way my car handles. Not too soft and not too harsh; a perfect daily driver.... if it weren't for the price of gas at the moment....and that's why I love driving it in Florida, especially on the blvds and highways. Would I sell my G and buy the new Z? I'm not sure....I will reserve judgement until I test drive one and even then....
Haha Andrea’s grinning ear to ear on this drive 😂
So is it Zack or Zeek? 😀🙃
The nd2 Miata for $30k id nuts.. also when I hear car reviewers say “zed” I immediately think of pulp fiction. Zed is dead Zed is dead baby.
I wonder on just day to day driving fun what you think would be best - - C8 or Z. Yes I know they are two very different cars
Maybe different tires would solve most of the rain performance issues?
It’s not maybe , the tires on the Z is really bad , even in dry conditions
Everyone knows that , expect for this channel , they don’t know that bad tires = bad traction
Maybe they think you can’t change the tires , it’s welded to the wheels 🤣😂😂
Andrea is ready for the Supra manual review!
The performance reviews have not been very positive, but having a car here in Vancouver tha doesn’t handle well in wet weather is a dealbreaker for sure.
All you need to be stuck on the Lions Gate Bridge and you will never ever look back for the standard transmission .
How are the ergonomics as it relates to the relationship of the stick shift to the handbrake/cupholders/armrest? In the video it seems awkward. 🤔
I'm driving this year round in the GTA, no fear
For Vancouver, give me a manual with a 4 cyl turbo with 280 HP. Call it the 280z version.
I couldn’t agree more. I love this car. Save the front end. Way too square. Looks like an anomie character or POKÉMON or some shit. I had an 03’ 350Z. Frost year of the return of the Z in Glacier Pearl. Drove it right off the showroom floor of Glenadale Nissan in L.A. then I had a 2011 370Z. So I’m familiar with the Z car and the style is sooooo important. I just can’t do the square end. Looks too soft and goofy
Nice ride!
As the original owner of both the 240z and 280z, i would not buy this. first, it does rain even in the sunbelt.
second, a straight six ( lighter weight) would be much better balanced handling.
third, the N cars from Hyundai have performance with better warranties, mpg, and prices.
fourth, andrea didn't quite match the color in her wardrobe....no yellow jacket...🤣
Exterior look (front especially) is so similar to New BRZ/86
How can u add a Porsche in the “for your consideration”? How do u come up with these? The price differential is ludicrous!
It’s a fun car. 400 hp is a lot of power for a main stream car that starts at $40k. I’d buy it if I could get one for msrp otherwise no.
my genesis coupe is 300 hp and its got more than enough pull to get around someone, so another 100 hp is more than enough.
Zed?…Zed’s dead baby! -Bruce Willis-❤
the toyota supra has no V6 but an inline 6
Sadly, it's more probable that the next new sports car you buy will be an electric, so no manual. 😢 Unless you guys are one of the few who, like me, are willing to take a stand publicly that the advent of the EV heralds the death of truly engaging sports cars.
Thanks
The Z always feels like an economy Porsche Caymen.
The Z is no worse in The rain than a typical Mustang, Camaro , Corvette etc. Nissan put a mediocre Bridgestone tire on it. You keep saying power you paid for. No powerful car can utilize all of the power in the rain.
A cayman is easier to drive In the rain because it has no torque.
Otherwise great review.
I wouldn't agree with including the Cayman... its a mid-engine sports car. The Z is more in the league of Supra, Mustang, and Camaro, as they are front engine, RWD high horsepower with a manual gearbox.
Killed before it is even on the lots😂😂😂..Nissan shot this car down with the high base price and the price gap between the two trim levels
Your colour grading is strsnge, the car looks green when it's distinctly yellow
Oh common already U2 good looking ‘mother Lov’n RUclipsr people!
We have tons of nice dry sunshine for the best part of spring, summer, and late fall’esh 😅 here in Calgary….
Not a big fan of the frontend either, they could have done more with the headlights.
Maybe Andrea needs more time driving higher HP rear wheel drive manual transmission cars. Perhaps even take a course on High Performance Driving. I would hate to hear what she would have to say about a C7 Z06! Until then, stick with front wheel drive Toyotas!
I would buy this Nissan Z, I love it!
It has a unique, smooth, understated classiness like a E-type, but still looks faaast.
Cutting edge handling is unnecessary for this type of car. The typical buyer I see for this would be a Female Attorney, or a Surgical Nurse. As for guys, older guys like me at 70 will appreciate the less than buckboard ride of a lot of superhandling cars.
Hmm, I'll stick with my 2004 350Z Roadster until Nissan gives in to the open-top crowd again. It's 18 years old with only 13000km, yes, 13000, and it's NEVER seen rain. It's all I need and is burdened with few if any government-legislated nanny technology items.
Wow her voice sounds like a commercial
They both have a radio background. I actually dig it as it sounds like a throwback audio reviewer. Like Tom volk
wireless Carplay??
Wired unfortunately
If you take the drama out of it, would be more professional car evaluation.
That front end just ruins it for me.
I agree it is boring with no style in the oblong grille !
Where the hell is this car? I dont see it anywhere!😡
I’ll be keeping my Nismo 350z..
Polestar or is it polstar has an electric coupe
It's like $160k starting price. Not affordable.
Although I love the Cayman, it’s tough to compare with the Zed since it’s basically double the price.
But how about a preowned Cayman
Your Canadian. It's zed that's it
Rectangular grill is just laZy design no matter how you slice it.
Finally someone agrees with me 😂
No kidding looks like a 2 yearolds drawing of a car !
Looks like the bottom of my fridge
You mentioned a lot the “ put the power down “ thing
You don’t know something called “ tires “ ? You don’t know that some tires is good in traction and some is not ?
So you are advising people not buy the car because it’s bad traction tires ? 😂
