i often feel lost and have my own fight with depression so thank you john and DC and skateboarding for this video and project you give me hope when i feel alone ❤️❤️❤️
I was having "I'm just done" feelings these last two days then I saw this video. God is real. I needee this video so bad and it helped me so much today.
This is so beautiful, thank you :) I had an awful day yesterday but as soon as I went to my local park I met up with a few friends and had the best time. Thank you, skateboarding.
This whole thing was surreal. It was so beautifully told, so cinematic and so powerful. I’m glad to see more people are opening up about their mental health. The more we talk about it the less it remains stigmatized. Amazing job to everyone involved 🙏🏻
I have been battling depression throughout my life. 2 years ago, I had a horrible time - just being lost, don't know where to go, cannot focus on my studies. I just went back to skateboarding last May and it was such a great feeling to be riding on a board again, just feeling out the air and watching the sunset. Negative feelings still visit me every now and then, but I am so thankful that I can always lean towards Skateboarding and make me feel better afterwards. I just learned a new trick (fakie tre shuv) the other day after 2 years of not skating and man I really missed that burst of excitement of landing something new! Skateboarding is a therapy and a medication and it's always there when you need it. Thank you DC for giving light to this issue, all love !
thank you DC. What I found most insidious about depression is the chasm between the perception you have of a person and the inner battles they are fighting. If you're out there and feeling depressed you are not alone. Talk to someone.
This is so powerful and beautiful .I'm still grieving the loss of a parent, I will remember that " I'm the blue sky". Channeling my energy into mobility thru running, yoga and just breathing has changed my life around. Peace of mind is the wealthiest thing we can have right now..meditation to me is non-negotiable. And i treat it as such...in a much better place now.
Beautiful ❤ 😍 😘 Love YOU JOHN🙏❤ John has The most Beautiful Soul Inside & Out 🙏❤🙏 Thank You For Speaking Out & Helping healing Sharing your experience and knowledge Of Depression❤🙏❤ Spread The Beauty of LOVE❤ & IT WILL HEAL❤🙏❤🙏❤🙏✌
As a father of a teenage boy, who has his struggles and demons this touched me. Beautifully shot and gently told. There was information that is extremely helpful. Thank you
This singlehandedly got me back into skating, I'm worse then ever but everytime I glance at the shoes I got from this collection it brings a big smile to my face. From the bottom of my heart thank you this means so much to so many of us!
A beautiful and touching piece that everyone can relate to. I’ve been struggling for a couple years since the death of my dog and chronic pain. Meditation and breathing have both helped, as well as making myself be more productive and opening up to friends. To all those going through the struggle, hang in there, things will get better 🙏 ❤️
The video i didn’t know I needed, thank you DC, and thank you everyone behind this project, really appreciate the effort put into this. We shall stand together! Skating is relieving, “a moving meditation” ❤️
Nothing but respect for the honesty and openess from John and this video... Mental health is tough to talk about, but we can have these talks now or when it's too late. I'd rather choose now.
John your skating is super rad. Thank you for speaking on this very difficult, but important subject! This is a special community we’ve got and I think a lot of us feel that mediation magic on the board. I certainly have turned to skating as a mental health practice now that I’m getting older. Talk with those you trust if you are feeling too depressed to handle this life, the real ones will come through for you. Take care of yourself and your homies! Much love y’all.
Its hard not to shed a tear for all of our fellow fallen skaters. Each passing serves as another reason to keep living on, both for ourselves and those we've lost. Our loved ones may leave this physical plane, but their presence remains within the confines of our brains
John - you are truly a sweet and gentle soul who does so much good in this troubled world - I'm blessed to be able to have you for a cousin - my love and blessings always to you and the rest of the family (-:
We are lucky to still have you with us John! Too many kind souls have left us the past few years, i still hope that videos and projects like this will create a wave of change in regards to how we view mentall well being, compassion for each other and the end of stigmatisation of (mental) illness. This too shall pass!
DC has been making a great job with the recently videos. Sometimes we, as skateboarders, think that everything in our world and art is included and accepted. But it's vital to talk about mental healthness, sexual orientation and things like that, because it's easy to be with your friends in a session and tell jokes, but to talk about your demons is so hard. Thank you DC and thank you John for talk about it.
Me and Jon henry at 5:47 this is crazy i wanna thank DC especially to be in a video like this it's really amazing and something I think everyone should see weather your a skater or not
I just bought a C70 and it arrives next week. I thought this was just going to be a nice link someone sharred with me to just see the quality. But I didnt know that I needed to see this, to enrich my heart and soul..
Awesome video and conversation about this issue within skateboarding. Thank you for taking the time to produce this video! I think we need to shed some light on what happens when that “ride away” feeling no longer produces the high spoken of in the video. Also, we need to comment on the beast that is the modern skate industry. Enough is never enough and that’s a shame.
As much as I want to agree with the opinion that the skateboarding community is supportive I've been through through tough times being around my so called fellow skate Brothers. To the point where I didn't want to skate with anyone but myself. But I wont ever quit skating.
I just want people to know that all these tips help yes, but what people with severe depression really need is a connection with others and to feel understood and cared about. Seriously guys, check on your friends and family, and ask them how they are REALLY doing and be willing to listen. It is the biggest difference you can make in someone's life who is in a dark place.
Im interested to know what happens when you can’t skate anymore. Not really, because I know. It’s not the skateboarding or breathing 6-9 times through one nostril this way then doing a backflip with the other nostril. It’s a spiritual battle. There’s absolutely nothing you can do about it. The most you can do is to go and forgive in person if you can, your mother for ruining your life and turning you away from your father, and forgive your father for not protecting you from her. Then once you go in person and forgive, if you can, if not then just sit down, shut up, be still, and watch every thought that comes by and be present as you can. Every single thought is a lie, the more you watch them the more you realize that, but you have to sit down and shut up, and quit worrying about your breathing, because you were made to breathe without thinking. Just relax and be normal. You are not your thoughts, you are a spirit, and when your parents traumatized you as a child, another spirit made a little cozy home within you. And that became your ego. You become what you hate, and as long as you hold on to anger and resentment and hate, you will suffer. The ego is a dark spirit that wants nothing more to control you with lies. Your thoughts. But when you go and forgive, you get your light back, your courage, and then you can sit back, relax and let go. God will do the rest. But you have to forgive, you have to understand that this is not your fight, this is not your fault, you were traumatized as a child because your parents tried to impose their will on you, and they were messed up from their parents, and it’s been a vicious cycle all over the world for a long time, different countries, same spirit of anger. But once you see how much darkness is in you, and you don’t try and fight it, you just notice it, because the spirit wants you to believe lies like “oh, you just have to fight this, you can surely beat this” and every other thought that comes to you, don’t fight it just watch it while not engaging it, observe it. That’s all you can do. But you must shut up and be still, when you wake up in the morning and before you go to sleep, and anytime between but it has to be consistent. The ego will tell you, “you don’t have to do it all the time, after all you breathe through your nose AND mouth and you count it” but you must be still. And don’t time it either, you have to allow God to catch up with you. Just sit and be still, and wait on him. And he’ll come, in his own time. And it will be amazing. And he will fight this battle for you. There’s nothing other than that, that you can do except stay out of your imagination, the place you retreated to when you were traumatized, and live your life. Smoke on it man. Lol.
I really wish they would share the cause of death more and not hide it (suicide or not). I know there will be horrible people or just kids that don’t know any better that will say the most horrible shit and dog pile on someone they don’t know, but at the same time how can we save others in the future if they never disclose what happend.?.?.? It’s a catch 22 for sure, but I do think there’s positivity to be gained through telling the truth….. I don’t know man, I’ve buried faaar too many friends and I’m tired of sliding shit under the rug………
hey guys. Thanks for the great review! Quick questions. what 4K format did you use? I know one is smaller but in post it lags. did you guys deal with this at all? Convert to prores. in post? Not sure if I should shoot in the 410brate or the 120. The 120 has a 1 sec. lag in the edit. Thanks! T.
Thank you John and thank you DC - you know who you are. It’s an honor and a privilege to be a part of this project. Take care of each other out there.

This was the most impactful and important thing I have seen skateboarding produce in my 28 years as a skateboarder.
This spoke directly to me... skateboarding needs more of this awareness. Thank you John, Andrew and DC.

This is good in a good way. Share it! Even if you are not a skater. I heard about this on the Nine Club . Thanks to everyone involved.
