- The story of Leo Valls and his hometown of Bordeaux is an unlikely one to say the least. It’s a story where skaters, artists, lawmakers and city officials are working together to create a more skate-friendly city. But this is more than just a story about one skater and one city… this a story about redefining skateboarding’s role in the city of the future.
DC Shoes presents its latest Yours for the Taking piece, "Skate Urbanism" featuring Leo Valls
This is so awesome. Really great that Leo brought up that skaters have a responsibility to the public as well. The “fuck you” attitude can ruin things for everyone else. I hope more of this happens in future city plans!

That's pretty good for skateboarding, big up to all the guys involved in this project. In an other way i have some doubt about the good coverage it creates for the municipal team and how politicians could appears as "cool" people even thought they're not. Just afraid of seeing skateboarding used one day for politics aims by the wrong people. Apologize for my pessimistic approach and big up to all the true people behind this

Cool video. I couldn't imagine the Mayor of my city London, communicating with the skater community to make skateboarding more integrated into the city as a whole. What's the population of Bordeaux ? London is around 8 million.

Public places where skateboarding is allowed are AMAZING. You get a ton of different people drawn there hanging out. Not just skating. I skated Bristo Square in Edinburgh (RIP) Back in 2005 when the scene there in the summer time was amazing. A couple kids from the US mingling with the local Scots and in a couple afternoons it was like we were apart of their little community. One of the best couple days of my youth and skateboarding and a public place to do it gave me what a skatepark really cant

I am a student study Urban and regional planning at Cal Poly Pomona in California and this documentary touched me and made me happy at so many levels. What you have done to your city is an accomplishment. Hope this is the stepping stone towards the future!!!

Thank you Leo, DC and the city officials for keeping skateboarding adventurous! No skatepark can ever duplicate the freedom of skating a street spot and discovering a street spot with a group of friends!!!

it's so nice that now the city start to understand the impact of skate culture as positive effect on the youth and on older generation. The plaza can become again places where people can meet and exchange knowledge, passion and love for something even more than skateboarding (respect, music, architecture, philosophy etc...).The true school of life is in the streets.I'm so proud to be able to call Leo my friend and to see Sergio (aka SER aka HYPEMASTER) skate together ! well done DC well Done Leo and WELL DONE BORDEAUX !!!

councils and cities working with skateboarders is the worst thing for skateboarding.
you cant help the city intergrate skateoarding in an 'authentic way', there is nothing authentic about that, it has become forced and disingenuous. It just becomes a skatepark disguised as something else, in the end it is just another way for cities to keep skateboarding somewhere they want it to be, and be able to control it. youre a tosser leo

Theres a thin line between the best street plazas in the world (love park, south bank, etc.) and a sanctioned park for skating only. Giving skaters skate friendly infrastructure in a city setting blurs the line even further, and that can only be a positive thing unless you choose a narcissistic view point of pessimism. Choice is yours
