Hello Alex. I'm also a big fan of double gauze for summer wear. And oh my, the colour combination of teal, your hair and the artwork behind is just glorious. I'm in Australia and have never hear of Molly labels so thank you!
Snow falling out my picture window. Ginger biscuits and tea and your latest Vlog snuggled indoors. Latest slow sewing project in my lap. Couldn't ask for a better few minutes to myself. Love your fabrics for the next few projects. I agree with other comments on here that you seem to need more fabric in the front of the pants so the pleates won't pull but I have no idea how you'd fix that in completed trousers. The dress patterns all look wonderful. After a long cold winter I think we are all getting excited for brighter colours and something besides long pants and sweaters. Moroccan merino wool jersey is a bluish colour that would be fabulous on you. The linen blend you showed is really close to that. I can attest to how lovely the Moroccan merino is. Its not in my colour palette but my daughter loves it.
Sorry to hear about the beautiful dress not fitting. I have had the same happen when cutting a garment with the fabric in the other direction and not the lengthwise as normal, which is what I assume you did. Even though it is a woven and one would not think it, the give of the fabric sometimes really does make a difference on the normal crosswise cutting. Hope that makes sense 🙂
Hi Alex, I’m one of your Australian fans and though I rarely comment I really enjoy your videos. I’m 72 and certainly don’t need to sew but continue because I love everything about it, creative process, problem solving and the sheer joy of playing with fabric! Have you seen the new Dovetail dress from the Sewing Revival? I like the lines of it, makes a change from tiers and ruffles, and it could be made to be worn in all seasons. Also, I have enjoyed making and wearing the Geneva blouse from Leisl and co. The lantern sleeve is lovely. Great work with sewing for offspring! I sew for my daughter in New Zealand so understand the challenges. Best wishes!
Hi Hilary, I wish I could find an excuse to go to Australia I need my Husband to get an Aussie client so I can tag along. He did some work with the All Blacks in NZ a few years ago, but the children were in their early teens so I couldn't join him. I have been given a Dovetail dress pattern to try as I love a lot of The Sewing Revival patterns, but for some reason I didn't think about using that fabric for it, I had in mind something warmer, but now you say it, I'm having a re-think 😀. I'll check out the Geneva - thank. you 🙏💓
Your kids are so lucky to have you begging to sew for them. When I was in my teens and early 20s, and didn't really sew myself, my mum would only agree to make me something if I cut out the paper pattern and then the fabric, as she hated that part. 😄
😂 I've made this very suggestion to my three with zero success. When we were all making scrubs my eldest cut one pattern and did it so badly I never asked again - I'm sure it was intentional, as she's a really precise artist 😂
Thanks for the reassurance regarding the coffee. You knew exactly what I was thinking! Love that petrol blue color on you. It's my fave color at the moment!
|Thanks so much Susan, I really appreciate it. I'm going on hold off on changing the dress until next year just in case I've changed shape, it's no likely but you never know. 😄💚
Alex re the busy print… Try the Willow top by Grainline patterns and wear on its own when warm or with a cardi and a polo neck underneath in the winter. I have many that i always line with the burrito method and they are used year after year !
Very enjoyable chatty video Alex, love hearing about your makes for your son and daughter. I wonder have you ever looked at Maison Fauve patterns. Many of their shirts and blouses have lovely sleeve details and the Mia dress is a beauty . Lots of sew along videos on You Tube which although in French are easily understood. The latest collection is the Empire ,their website is worth a browse and they have great fabrics too. Atelier Jupe also do some good patterns and they can be seen on Lamazi fabrics and also Beyond the Pink Door.
I'm vaguely aware of Maison Fauve, but haven't looked for a while so will enjoy a browse. Everything I've seen from Atelier Jupe on Instagram looks amazing, but again I haven't had a look yet. ❤
A few years ago I was introduced to a fabric store called "Discovery Fabrics" in Canada. They specialize in fabrics for indoor and outdoor activities, they have an abundance of wicking, workout and waterproof fabrics and their explanations of the fabrics are quite extensive so perhaps this may give you a bit of insight on the fabric you have purchased 😄
Oh no, that Armidale dress accident! That’s so disappointing. I wonder if you could add a button placket down the front.. it could give you an inch or two and can work as long as the other areas fit, it could save it.
Thank you so much for being so honest in your videos - it is SO good to hear that I'm not the only one to make misjudgements in my sewing! It can be so disappointing after spending so long making something when it looks all wrong when you try it on! X
Thanks Colette, it's the worst feeling isn't it. I've found that if you come back to it a while later it's easier to sort the problem out, although sometimes you never want to look at it again 😂
Can relate to the throwing of the garment to one side 😂 I have a question...where is your online go to for printing a pdf pattern please? I'm looking at the gorgeous Rossi wrap dress pattern by the bold one and would like to get it printed rather than do it at home. Any advice appreciated!! X
Bamboo jersey is perfect for loose drapey activewear tops, the bamboo is wicking and I wear it for running, you just need to make sure the fabric you buy is not a bamboo mix, ray stitch do lovely 100% bamboo jersey but it’s a bit pricey, fab makes Alex
Wonderful video! I'm looking forward to your discussion of the new pants, too! I really appreciate you linking all your talking points for us, I really need to take another look at Pattern Emporium, the name does keep popping up. I didn't think anything about your coffee cup being there - my thought was "What a beautiful cup!" I've got one nearly like it, and I think of it as being really big. But I think yours is bigget 😉 AND I keep my coffees in exactly the same place on an armchair I keep in my sewing room just for reading. With a coffee! haha. (I really should use a coaster, but the arm is narrower and the coaster won't sit flat.) Your new fabrics look fabulous and I envy your collection of labels! Lordy! Happy Sewing! 😁
@@AlexJudgeSews I have many pieces of LeCreuset cookware - Love them! My cup is a single one, same color as yours but a little smaller, specifically to match an accent color in my sewing room when I was setting it up 😍 Red's my happy color!
I enjoyed the chat! I’m in the same boat, hoping to get inspired! I’m so glad you are enjoying sewing for your kids. Mine are 22 and 26 and I often think of pattern that they might like 😊
Hi Alex - lovely video as always :) If you're after nice moisture wicking activewear fabric then definitely try a bamboo jersey, I use these for gym wear all the time and it's perfect. Greenstyle also has the Xpress tank that goes great with bamboo! x
Love what you are wearing the colour is fantastic on you. Have you tried the Sussex Seamstress patterns. I have made a few great instructions. Love the new fabrics.
Hi Alex, loving your Saguaro set 👌💚. What about the Atelier Jupe Olivia for your floral fabric... I have a feeling that you have that already though in your wardrobe but if it's one that you like...why not 😁. Looking forward to seeing your recent trouser make..they look like a great style for autumn 🍁. Lola is adorable by the way 💝🐕🐾😘
Great idea!! I've just googled it, I haven't got it but think there might be something similar. Trousers coming soon, I've just got to get this man out from under my feet, his voice booms around the house so hard to make videos. I'm hoping he'll return to the office in the next week - fingers crossed. 💓
Snow!!! Yes of course the rain, it’s been dreadful by the sounds of it and even worse in Pakistan. I hope it dries up soon and you can enjoy lovely Spring weather 😘
What about the belemite dress again? I’ve also got the pattern and want to sew it this autumn. I’ve just ordered some beautiful quilted cotton jacquard from merchant and mills to make the ayora jacket by Pauline Alice. The Florence dress pattern also made its way into my basket -although I’m only 5 ft 3 ish I still want to make longer dresses and layer up in the autumn with thermals and boots.
I enjoyed hearing your fall plans. I made the Nepheline Blouse in a busy floral print and while it is beautiful, the tucks did get lost in the print. I agree a plainer fabric would better show case such a nice feature. Also, the teal colour of your saguaro set is gorgeous on you :)
Hi Alex, I've heard a few US vloggers talk about supplex fabric for activewear, maybe that's what you're looking for? Unfortunately, I have no idea where to buy it from in the UK. How about the Fibre mood Norma blouse for your top? For the Armidale, did you end up cutting your pieces on the cross grain because of the border print? That might have affected the fit a little bit. Love teal on you 💙
Yep, I did cut it on the crossgrain and it was only when I read a comment earlier that it twigged that was what had caused the problem! I think you can get Supplex occasionally in the UK, but I believe it's a bit heavier and more suitable for leggings. I need something that's as close to being non-existent as possible as I get verrrrrry hot. 😂
Ooh I saw that Nepheline blouse last week too and I am itching to make a version! I agree with you though, the details would be lost in that lovely floral fabric. Hope all is well!
Your Saguaro set looks lovely ☺️ I have the SOI Florence & Heidi dress patterns that are both long sleeved maxi dresses - I’m wondering if they would work through Autumn months in a heavier fabric 🤔
New stretch thread by Gutterman, called a few different names e.g. Maraflex, 80% stretch, will stop legging seams popping. See Dahlia Sewciety. Can’t get it in NZ yet.
Yes I saw Kristen's post on Ig, and spotted a UK supplier. I haven't seen Kristen talking about it, so I'll do that today while I'm sewing. I've got an overlocker and a coverstitch machine, so leggings should be safe, but I'm nervous 😂
Love your signatory set, colour really suits you and live double gauze. Regarding the pink stripe, if you like it , go for it, there are no fabric police 👮♀️ x
What do you think of the Merchant and Mills Etta? I’ve made it in the sleeveless version and it covers so nicely for a wrap dress! I don’t even need a snap. It’s fabric hungry, but that’s partly due to the lined bodice, which could obviously come from another fabric.
Different fabrics may need different sizing. Even if both fabrics ar woven and in the same Wright. My mother who worked in a ladys wear factory told me they sometimes had different patterns for the same dress, when made in various, but similar, fabrics. I guess you need a trained eye to be able to decide when to make such adjustments. I would never know. 😊
I am waiting not very patiently for autumn. The last few years summer seems to be lasting longer and winter is coming faster. That is too bad your beautiful dress is too small. Could you add extra fabric at the sides? I love that you are making clothes for your adult children. I have made lots of clothes for my kids from babies well into adulthood. I am also looking for some different shirt/blouse patterns to make for the fall into winter. I look forward to seeing what you choose. And may I say your hair is just so amazing, the length and colour are perfect.
Thanks Jennett, I appreciate the hair comment, I've been debating to cut it to bob length and almost did it when my Husband reminded me that I'd told him to never let me cut it short again as I regretted it last time 😂. I'm going to hold onto the dress for next Summer just in case it fits. 🙏😘
Love the teal color you are wearing ! I was wondering if you could salvage the beautiful linen fabric from the dress and make a blouse? Also, I have made several athletic knit pants with no seam popping issues--I always opt for a gusset and use a serger .So many fun fabrics and good patterns! Re sewing for our daughters who live far away: I was inspired to try a Fayma pattern after watching your review, and I made the Bluebell dress for my daughter. We did the 30 measurement points in person, though!
That's a great idea, but yes as you say I'd have to do the measurements - brilliant! I suspect leggings would be fine, I've got a coverstitch machine too so no excuse, maybe they'll be next but good tip about choosing a pattern with a gusset 🙏
Petrol blue is YR color! Love yr makes and the fabrics u purchased . As regards to the linen dress could you cut the bodice and use it as a skirt ?shame not to use that fabric really. Maybe u cut it cross grain and it did not give do much ? Check out yr Style Arc patterns I am sure u have some lovely dress patterns already and Atelier Jupe ! Tks for the interesting vlog 😊
yes, I've just realised following an earlier comment that cutting on the crossgrain was the cause - I feel so much better now 😀. Now that it's the end of Summer I'll hold onto the dress and see how if I've changed shape at all next Summer, but if not then, yes it'll probably become a skirt.
Not sure what your athletic fabric is called. There are so many names for similar and dissimilar fabrics. Just note the stretch % for your choice of pattern. BTW I love the GS Cavallos and have made/serged numerous with no adverse outcomes. I also recommend Sewing with Sarah blog and vlogs as she sews lots of GS and other stretch patterns and does great sew alongs. Beautiful colour! Sorry no suggestions for the dress.
I Think we are many in here who do not need any more clothes 😁 but i would be very sad if you do not sew any more for yourself. You are a great inspiration to me. I also love fall. Love from Denmark 🤩🤩
Great to have a catch up...thank-you. I have started to sew for my daughters and as they are inter-state it can be tricky. I also have a couple of shirt and shorts patterns for men I'd like to try for my husband and son. Plans for down the road though. Have you looked at Jennifer Lauren Handmade patterns? I think she has some nice blouse patterns. I've made the Aisling blouse.
Hi, i am still weeks behind watching vlogs but I have pushed you to the front of the queue! Isn't it a terrible revelation that you don't really need to make any more clothes, it happened to me when I returned from holiday mid August. Unlike you, I don't like Autumn so couldn't find any enthusiasm for warmer clothing, it will come eventually! Like you, I am making for others, the Heyday Dungarees, 2 for my grandsons and a pair for my daughter in law, A twist on the normal mother matching! Thanks for the recommendations for listening, I love listening when I am walking the dog, I am listening to Miriam Margolis autobiograpy at the moment but may alternate wih these. Thanks for doing these videos.
Hi Christine, I feel very honoured to be in Miriam's company she's absolutely brilliant - did you hear the Off Menu podcast when she was a guest, I don't think they knew quite how to take her 😂. You're lucky family, I'm looking forward to the Grandchildren stage although hopefully not for a few years yet. Hope we have a NW meet up again soon ❤
Hi Alex love the Saguaro Set on you. I’m in Australia and cannot wait for Spring and Summer. I have 5 grandchildren so always have someone to sew for. I started my own RUclips channel yesterday, so if you get a chance have look and let me know if you have any hints and tips moving forward, keep up the great content, thanks Deb
I'm very envious of you having Grandchildren to sew for, those new Paper Cute patterns are lovely and I wish I had an excuse to make them. I'm sewing today, so promise to watch 😘
Omg…It stresses me out watching your arms, fabric, garment moving all around that big cup of coffee!! Just waiting for it fall. But I watch on anyway because I love everything you make! I think teal is your color…it looks so great on you.
@@AlexJudgeSews please dont change how you do things on my account. I really only meant it jokingly that it stresses me out :) I will try to focus more on your sewing than your coffee…and I can relate…I can’t get by without my coffee!
Look at Discovery Fabrics (based in Canada) - they sell all types of active wear fabric. You will probably be able to figure out from their what different types of fabric are called and best used for.
The Atlas Dress by Sewing Patterns by Masin is on my wish list. I am not familiar with this company. But the picture they show of the green wrap dress would look very beautiful on you!!!!
Hello What a shame that the dress was too small for you Could you use the fabric and make the blouse with the details? Or going to the gym and you will be wearing it down the road I go to the pattern releases for fall in big four and watch what's happening there Then Check out a few high end clothing sites that I like see what colors and styles are there Often fabric colors for fall follow them I am not a trendy person But it gives me ideas Often I have a pattern in my stash that can work by some simple tweaks I also have matched some big four patterns to make a indie idea pattern I have lots of patterns lol Midi length dresses in pinwale cord and boots love it for fall Denim skirts in Midi length also With knit tops 😍 Looking forward to fall plans as well Happy sewing
Yes, I'm probably being a bit optimistic but I'm not going to make any adjustments until next Spring, just in case 😄. It sounds like we have a similar process 😄❤
You said you increased the saguaro top overlap by 3cm. When you did the overlap adjustment on their website, did you do 1.5cm on each front piece or did you do 3cm on each front piece?
Could your linen dress have shrunk while ironing during the making? I envision the autumnal double gauze as a dress with cut on kimono sleeves, and an obi type belt. Sorry too lazy to find a suitable pattern.
Hi Alex,I love your content and your honest reviews. This is such a happy chit chatty vlog. I am always checking in to make sure I havent missed any of your uploads. Based on your lovely review I have recently bought the Billie shorts pattern by JoliLab and will be making them shortly..love learning about new pattern companies too. Happy subscriber from Cape Town South Africa 🇿🇦
Hello Cape Town! i do love how sewing brings us all together, do let me know how you get on with the Billie shorts - I've just packed mine away until next year. 😄❤
Funny you say that, I was looking at some online this week! However, when I'm cold I always feel it in my upper arms - who knows why, but I need sleeves to keep me toasty. ❤🙏

Thank you so much for the suggestion, I had completely forgotten about SewOver It! I used to buy a lot from them, but not for ages. I love both dresses, I’m going to check my computer to see if I already own either of the patterns, honestly this brain fog 🤷🏼♀️😁❤️
How wonderful you must have felt when the clothes you made for your daughter was so appreciated. ❤️
Yes it was, I've waited years for that response 😄
Hello Alex. I'm also a big fan of double gauze for summer wear. And oh my, the colour combination of teal, your hair and the artwork behind is just glorious. I'm in Australia and have never hear of Molly labels so thank you!

Great minds eh 😘
Thanks, yep you're right, it's a phrase I use often, must listen to myself 😂❤
Ha ha. Happy to be a fabric purchase influencer 🤪
I've just ordered more this morning 😊😂 japanese sandwashed cupro - yes please, who needs food anyway
@@AlexJudgeSews did the code work?! 🤞🏼
What do you think of the Merchant and Mills Etta? I’ve made it in the sleeveless version and it covers so nicely for a wrap dress! I don’t even need a snap. It’s fabric hungry, but that’s partly due to the lined bodice, which could obviously come from another fabric.
I think you’ve cracked it! Fantastic idea thank you 🙏🏻. I have a memory of you posting yours, so am off to have a look 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Has that … never mind. I definitely would make the top, lengthened.
Ahh that's interesting and I guess makes sense. I bet your mother has some great insights 😘
If you added piping to the edges of the sleeve detail on the Vivienne blouse would that make the detail of them stand out in that print? Lovely makes
Great idea! thank you 😘
Love the teal color you are wearing !
I know what you mean about having enough clothes... What about the Avid Seamstress Day Dress lengthened... Or Butterwick b6872?
Hmm, I've been put off Avid Seamstress patterns after a bad experience with their shirt pattern, maybe I should give them another go ❤
Petrol blue is YR color!
Ooh thank you, I need to follow some active wear sewists I'll check out Sewing with Sarah, sounds like there's a lot to learn. 🙏❤
I Think we are many in here who do not need any more clothes 😁 but i would be very sad if you do not sew any more for yourself. You are a great inspiration to me. I also love fall. Love from Denmark 🤩🤩
ooh thank you, thanks so kind - I don't imagine I'll ever stop and now the season is about to change there'll be no stopping me 💃🙏
There's the Sabine skirt by the little pomegranate. It's free pdf if you sign up to emails. Might work for your autumn double gauze
ooh I don't know this one - I'll do it now thankyou.
Ooh thanks, I'll have a look, I've only made her Juniper cardigan and the men's one she does both of which were fab. 💚
Hi! You've a gorgeous picture on your profile ☺️ just decided to stop by and say hi! I hope my compliment is appreciated!
@@AlexJudgeSews Fingers cross for a NW meet up soon.x
Hi Alex love the Saguaro Set on you. I’m in Australia and cannot wait for Spring and Summer. I have 5 grandchildren so always have someone to sew for. I started my own RUclips channel yesterday, so if you get a chance have look and let me know if you have any hints and tips moving forward, keep up the great content, thanks Deb
I'm very envious of you having Grandchildren to sew for, those new Paper Cute patterns are lovely and I wish I had an excuse to make them. I'm sewing today, so promise to watch 😘
Lovely fabrics Alex. I know they're not new but I thought the Style Arc Hope dress and the Papercut Nexus blouse would both look great.
Great ideas and I have both patterns!!!! Thanks Liz 🙏💓
💐
Hi! You've a gorgeous picture on your profile ☺️ just decided to stop by and say hi! I hope my compliment is appreciated!
Omg…It stresses me out watching your arms, fabric, garment moving all around that big cup of coffee!! Just waiting for it fall. But I watch on anyway because I love everything you make! I think teal is your color…it looks so great on you.
Ahh Ithank you, did say it won't move, I'll try to remember to put it somewhere else next time, but I do need coffee within reach at all times 😂
Thank you so much, that's a fantastic idea 🙏🙏
The Atlas Dress by Sewing Patterns by Masin is on my wish list. I am not familiar with this company. But the picture they show of the green wrap dress would look very beautiful on you!!!!
I love it! thanks for a brilliant suggestion ❤
Could you change the dress that doesn't fit into a skirt 🤔
Yes, I could and if it were the beginning of Summer I probably would, but I'm going to hold off until next year as you never know it might fit then 😀❤
Hello
What a shame that the dress was too small for you
Could you use the fabric and make the blouse with the details?
Or going to the gym and you will be wearing it down the road
I go to the pattern releases for fall in big four and watch what's happening there
Then Check out a few high end clothing sites that I like see what colors and styles are there
Often fabric colors for fall follow them
I am not a trendy person
But it gives me ideas
Often I have a pattern in my stash that can work by some simple tweaks
I also have matched some big four patterns to make a indie idea pattern
I have lots of patterns lol
Midi length dresses in pinwale cord and boots love it for fall
Denim skirts in Midi length also
With knit tops 😍
Looking forward to fall plans as well
Happy sewing
Yes, I'm probably being a bit optimistic but I'm not going to make any adjustments until next Spring, just in case 😄. It sounds like we have a similar process 😄❤
🐯
You said you increased the saguaro top overlap by 3cm. When you did the overlap adjustment on their website, did you do 1.5cm on each front piece or did you do 3cm on each front piece?
How about Vogue Sewing Pattern 1781 for that brown/orange double gauze? (The long version!)
Thanks so much Lucy, I've just googled and it's lovely and very me 🙏😘
Would bamboo be the teal fabric? it is a natural wicking fabric and I know you can get different weights.
No, it doesn’t feel as soft as bamboo, but now you mention it that’s a very good idea 🥰
Could your linen dress have shrunk while ironing during the making? I envision the autumnal double gauze as a dress with cut on kimono sleeves, and an obi type belt. Sorry too lazy to find a suitable pattern.
I don't think so, I pre-washed it and tumble-dried it first, who knows, I must have used a greater seam allowance somehow. ❤
Why not make a long length outer wear sleeveless vest with buttons front? I love love love sleeveless outer vests.
Funny you say that, I was looking at some online this week! However, when I'm cold I always feel it in my upper arms - who knows why, but I need sleeves to keep me toasty. ❤🙏
🇨🇦😃
Not wright 😂 weight!
Thanks Alex for sharing your fantastic vlog 😁 a great catch up, inspiring and informative as ever keeping it real 👌😉😘
@aloadofbobbins
Always 😄😘
Your Saguaro set looks lovely ☺️ I have the SOI Florence & Heidi dress patterns that are both long sleeved maxi dresses - I’m wondering if they would work through Autumn months in a heavier fabric 🤔
Thank you so much for the suggestion, I had completely forgotten about SewOver It! I used to buy a lot from them, but not for ages. I love both dresses, I’m going to check my computer to see if I already own either of the patterns, honestly this brain fog 🤷🏼♀️😁❤️
I made a Tatb Lyra in a needlecord... Could that work on those patterns too?
