Hi Alex, great to see those lovely pants and the top looks great with them. The skirt is going to be alot of fun to wear too. When I want to sew a quick and dirty pattern, I usually go back to something I have already successfully made, a tried and true. Maybe you have exhausted that avenue, not sure. Good luck with it all ❤
You could remove the waistband and gather it a little bit more so you can keep the buttons and buttonholes? Love the Naya tee shirt and will be buying that for my summer makes!
my all-time favorite is: the inari t-shirt by named, new time favorite is the Arlington sweater by love notions and last but not least: the cuff top and almost lost trousers by the assembly line.
Hi Alex, you have entertained me once again - and yes after 48 or so years of sewing, I too do not know how to “fit “ a gathered skirt. Did the same as you, “it’ll be fine” and it’s not. Still hanging in my wardrobe waiting to get itself out of there, into the 🧵 sewing room, and be adjusted. Side zipper is the problem for me with it. Heather, New Zealand 👗🧵
I have done some hair brained things lately and blame it on my post middle aged brain, of course it could be the dozen or so quilts I have made because I couldn't make anything I wanted to wear because my daughters' all thought I should sew for them. Now, I am back to garment sewing and I have done some really stupid things. I am not really a stupid person, but I seem to have forgotten several basic rules for garment sewing. I have faith that it will all come back to me.
Most encouraging 😀❤. Don't you find you go in phases, sometimes I'm on a roll and everthing goes brilliantly, I think I've cracked this sewing thing, but them pride comes before a fall and then I get every little thing wrong, the unpicker goes into overdrive and I want to give up 😂😘
I love that you make rookie errors and share with us. You are perfectly imperfect. I also love that you ordered fabric when you were at the beach - that combination is heaven! Thank you another great video, and for the partnership discount with Tammy Handmade - the t-shirt looks elegant. Enjoy the warm sun, rain and everything in between!
Hi Alex....love the new quick and easy makes! A quick fix for a too short cord: I cut mine in half and sew a piece of elastic to each cut end and then reinsert😊. Also gives a bit of ease on the tie cord with movement and sitting etc🎉
It's one of my least favourite jobs - fitting skirt waistbands. I made the same mistake thinking the skirt would fit me but it was too big so I shortened it. It turned out to be too small then but I had cut off the extra waistband so had to cut out a new one, luckily had enough fabric for that.
No we all still read the bit on the pattern which say “ now is the time to try on and adjust the fit” I totally read and ignored this suggestion, carried on regardless finished my garment pressed in the pleats, a fabulous job even if i say so my self, only problem was it was so snug .. deep breathing was out of the question, at least yours was to big, to small is a hopeless recovery. I immediately gifted it and moved on. I have been sewing for 40 years, seriously I should know better. ! Great vlog, thank you for taking the time to share.
Love your Naya t shirts! I was lucky enough to get it in the makerist sale last weekend. I have made 2 already, one in woven and one in stretch. I'm going to crop the next one too. Always adore your fabric and colour choices. Have a wonderful weekend
It's an older pattern that's not getting much love these days, but the Kirsten Kimono Tee is another quick make using jersey. I'm pretty frugal by necessity when it comes to sewing so I've just been using folded over ribbon in place of labels. I have a pretty big stash of ribbon (bought for other hobbies) to use up, I'll never be able to sew enough to get through it all lol.
Great to see you Alex! The Naya shirt is such a good pattern and the two you have made look terrific on you especially when worn with those trousers. I like your skirt,I would never have the nerve to just wing it with making my own pattern . . Thank you however inspired by you I may try it😂 Thank you Alex once again.🌹🌹🌹
The Naya T-shirt is a great pattern. I snapped it up as soon as it was released and have made 4 already 😊 I would love to hear all your tips and tricks for shirt making as I’m just starting my shirtmaking journey ❤
Hi Alex. Always love your videos, just wanted to say that I find the short sleeve Melilot shirt from D&D (with grandad style collar) really quick. It’s actually incredible how quick it is and you end up with a lovely summery shirt. :-)
For the tie that is too short, add a piece of elastic to the back. The waist tie will stretch so you don’t need to untie it to get it on or off, you won’t need to remake a longer tie, and it won’t show because the elastic is encased at the back. Another way to stabilize so the tie doesn’t move is to run some stitches vertically at the back.
Lovely tops as usual Alex 22:56 . I repurposed a maxi skirt of my 16 year old daughters into a knee length one for me as I liked the fabric. Had to make it shorter to accommodate my wide waist. However I also made the waistband too big 🤦♀️ but rather than unpicking I just added in some elastic at the back, you might think about adding a small amount to the sides to save you unpicking and gives you extra comfort, just a thought. Lovely skirt though ❤
Hi Alex, lovely to start the weekend (here in Oz) with a new video from you. As usual I'm inspired. Love all your makes and how great the pants look in double gauze! Wishing you good things for the week ahead.
Hello Alex Love your tshirts I am also making a few quick tops and dresses Simplicity 8878 is excellent pattern (I don't sew indie patterns) Its really nice done in a linen Easy to make and wear I have made all views Aren't you clever making the skirt with no pattern I am not brave enough to do that It looks great Happy sewing Take care
Some ideas for easy and comfy makes e.g no zips, buttonholes, collar stands, gathering are s9541 (flowy jumpsuit), closet core cielo top, Max tee by chalk and notch, S9596 dress or pinafore views, McCalls 7131 (wide leg pants or shorts), S 9541 3/4 sleeve kimono style jacket, fantail tank by Sewing Revival,
Back in summer 2018 I made the Merchant and Mills gyo top in navy linen. It is an unusual design and probably not everybodys cup of tea, but that is what appealed to me. Last week I made another from a dress that never gets worn as it is uncomfortable. It is easy to make and needs very little fabric. I also have that little tool. It was bought as I saw it used on youtube to help putting in an invisible zip. I would be very interested in seeing a video from you, on it.
Thanks so much for reminding me about this pattern it was on my to make list in the past, but I’ve searched for it just now and can’t find it listed anymore 🙁. The haemostat is so handy, just yesterday I used it when changing my machine needle that had got stuck 🙌🏻
Hi Alex, love the skirt and was thinking instead of unpicking the waistband could you add some elastic through the back of the waistband to bring it in a bit as it’s gathered anyway.
7 pages only ! Best news ever 😊. Do u think this would work with a viscose ? Thank you for the discount code . It would be interesting to learn yr methods and tips or anything about collars .U look great Alex and love u in these jeans and top ❤
Hi Alex. The Indra top by Sinclair patterns has been intriguing me. Might be a good one for your always entertaining vlogs. Hi from sunny but foggy, Sausalito (Northern California)
I’m also looking for brown linen. Got to the point of buying a pair from Next. Unfortunately too big and not in the sale 😢 You should have a look at “Blue Dot- the No Zip skirt”. Easy make with pockets 🎉 (think it was a free pattern). 🤓🏴 p.s. it also comes in A0 - 2 pages (I also have an aversion to sticking bits of paper together)
You're not alone in your ability to think, nah I know what I'm doing... I just made a skirt and my waistband I forgot to make smaller. I'm wearing it today with a belt. It's a denim skirt. Not taking it apart.
I love Sew Anonymous labels, joli lab labels are cool too I love BICHETTE, its french for Female I like a lot lol I sew it into gifts. Heres a pattern you may like, Sulis Hat by Patterns Fantastique, Just about to start it x
Been sewing for 30 years. Just spent 2 hours ripping seams that wew sewed and top stitched with a double row of top stitches. Why don't I wait to do all that top stitching? No idea.
You are not the only idiot, no. Today I almost finished a denim skirt, before I added the button and buttonhole, I tried it on. It's a bit too small! Another diet, then!
Don’t forget code ALEXJUDGESEWS for 15% of the Naya T shirt pattern until September 2023
Thankyou
Thank you for introducing me to the Naya pattern. With four daughters and daughters-in-law it will get much use.
My pleasure 😊
Would love to have a video on turning collars for a sharp corner
Lovely makes. I could have sworn that dottty top was a viscose. It's beautiful fabric. Love the other Naya top too, perfect length! ❤
Viscose jersey I suspect, I’m going to try making it in a woven at some point ❤️
Would love to hear your tips on making perfect collar tips

You could remove the waistband and gather it a little bit more so you can keep the buttons and buttonholes? Love the Naya tee shirt and will be buying that for my summer makes!
Pattern downloaded thanks for the discount code. Lovely makes as always, great vlog.

my all-time favorite is: the inari t-shirt by named, new time favorite is the Arlington sweater by love notions and last but not least: the cuff top and almost lost trousers by the assembly line.
The almost long trousers have been on my 'must make' list for ages, I keep forgetting them though!

I looked up the db designs and the fabric she uses that I mentioned previously is called bra foam that could be used for shoulder padding..
Yes, collar tips please! Thanks
