Brilliant pants and jacket.......look better than store bought!!!!!!!!! xxxxxxxxx
Love, love, love those trousers! I wore similar trousers in the late 70's or early 80's. I can't wait to make some! I sincerely appreciate a lovely interior of a garment. My mother always demanded it. It was she who taught me to sew.
Absolutely beautiful trousers! I am off to look at Bella Loves Patterns right away ❤
Same here !
Same here!
Hooray - she's a one Woman band, so always nice to support 💓
Both of your makes are beautiful and look fabulous on you, particularly the trousers! 😍👌🏻💯💣💖
🥰
Those trousers are a triumph, absolutely perfect fit and so flattering x
Thanks Kerry
Great makes. Love the idea of changing the waist band to make it more comfortable
😘
Love both of those makes. You always make something completely different to everyone else which is so interesting. Thanks so much.
Thanks Annette 😘
Those trousers are fantastic, color, fabric, fit!!
Thank you, I'm really pleased with them.💚
I love the trousers. I live in the U.S. and can't find wide leg in our shops. It's skinny leg here. I am so over skinny leg styles. Love the looser fit, the green fabric is beautiful!
Wow, the fit for those trousers are on point! Well done!
You reallllllly are inspiring me to have a go at the trousers! Thanks
Simply fabulous Alex, those trousers fit you beautifully and look so good on you. Do make the blazer to match. I love your jacket it is so neat and will go with lots of other things. Thank you for the clever PJ waistband tip.I have been looking at the Reiss website and your trousers would pass muster on there🥰
Oh, thank you! I had so many encouraging comments, that I dashed off yesterday and bought more fabric to make the blazer!
I'm so glad you did because it'll look wonderful as a suit but they can be worn separately, too. 😊
You’ve been busy! Love both those pieces. I might have a go at that jacket, adding a little length. Love the swingy shape. The trousers look fab on you.
Yes, I meant to say that it could easily be lengthened 😘
Two really special pieces. I love them both. Great tip re the pj waist band.
Stretchy PJ waistband is great for us late night snackers 😂
I love the Billy Trousers. I think the pleat on the crease looks very slimming and that shade of green is really nice>
😘
Super trousers! The jacket looks fab too and a green suit would be incredible (just saying) Love the pj hack too !
I'm getting weaker and weaker with every green blazer comment 😂
Alex, these both are fabulous makes that definitely inspire. You model them both also. I always check out your patterns but haven't copied you, yet. I bet you wear the pants with extra confidence.
Thank you, I think those of us who sew are often wearing the same things, pre-pandemic when we still had sewing meet-ups you could spot the new patterns a mile off 😄. I wore the pants yesterday and honestly they were so comfy ❤
Love the trousers and the jacket. According to my grandma, it's blue and green that should never be seen. For your jersey, if you want a closer fit, just go with a semi fitted t-shirt pattern with a high crew neck, set in long sleeves and the length of your choice. I'm betting you have lots of t-shirt patterns so surely you already have something that will fit the bill. Although it's not perfect, I would be tempted to go with the Closet Core Core T-Shirt because the neckline and armscye are perfect. You would need to make the side seams more fitted and perhaps slim down the lower part of the sleeve but these are simple enough adjustments to get the desired fit. x
Yes I realise that I've got that wrong all these years and it makes sense to me now as I'm not a fan or blue and green together! You're right I have loads of tee patterns, I'm a big fan of the Pattern Emporium ones so probably should start there. 😄❤
Sew beautiful, attention to detail and fit is fantastic, I aspire to sew like you Alex, one day maybe . I'm thinking of the tilly and buttons freya top for winter I like a Cowell neck and it is fitted . Alison
Thank you, I'm sure you can do it - I spent years avoiding anything 'tricky' until sewing online courses became a thing. Funnily enough, I was considering a cowl neck, I really like them, but for some reason whenever I've made them I haven't really worn them and I can't remember why. 😬❤
For a cozy basic in the red wool, I'd suggest the Pattern Fantastique Glacial Tee. It's actually designed for merino.
Spectacular outfit. The jacket and trousers look very good on you. I love the cropped jacket. I admire your sewing skills. Mine are so very rusty and I continue to spend more time making quilts and things for my grandchildren. I'll get to the trousers for myself soon. LOL.
You can do it, it's just a series of small steps 💪❤
Jacket goes great with your trousers and personally I think is a better look than the blazer ,original and very flattering . I am a fan of style arc ✂️x
Me too, I probably have more Style Arc patterns than any other brand!
Love your fabric choices and the fit of the trousers and jacket! As always, Alex, fabulous choices and tips! Thank you!
Cheryl
Those trousers! 🙌🏾😍
Glad you like them!
That Isabella wool mix Jersey is lovely, I have used it before. Sew Essential sell it much cheaper than Minerva.
Ooh good to know, thank you.
Fabulous job on those trousers 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻
Thank you! 😊
The trousers and jacket look fabulous on you! I've always stayed away from RTW pleated pants because I have a high round tummy and round thighs, and end up with pools of fabric in the valley between them lol.
Yep, I've had that too - I'm so pleased that these have fit well first try 😀💚
Nice try on, green looks so good you, thank for sharing
😘
Those trousers look great x
Fabulous makes as usual, you have such a great sense of style and color! Great work XXX
Thank you 💚
Great save on your PJ bottoms 😀
Thanks lovely 😘
I love how your trousers came out! I bought the pattern earlier this year and have yet to make them up.
Great trousers - very flattering on you. Excellent combo with the jacket - they make a really nice silhouette together.
Oh thank you!
Love the pants. Look fabulous on you. I will definately be looking to buy that pattern.
Thank you, it's a goody ❤
What beautiful sewing going to check out her site!
Thanks for another great video, I love the jacket , I'm still new to sewing but sewn loads this year, I had a look on their website and there is a sewing tutorial at the bottom of the page, so Im now off to buy this and that beautiful fabric, you always have amazing fabric choices Kx
Kudos for wearing front pleated pants! They look so good on you and double kudos for welted pockets. Love the short-waisted look and that back pleat ...🥰
Glad you like them!
Love both these makes Alex, you always give value for money in your reviews. Also I was distracted by a small red mark on my screen spent ages just rubbing but the n realised it was on your white door!!!!!!
Ooh no 😂- That's Dave splashing paint around, it's his space so I can't really complain (although I do 😄)
Wow, really lovely makes. Such style. I really look forward to your reviews, thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much!
Sew over it Roxy jumper, without the puffy sleeves, is a little different but cool
Loving these trousers Alex.. right up my street.. as well as the cropped jacket 😍. I still haven't made a pair of trousers with a zip fly yet.. do you think the instructions for these would be ok for a first try 🤔. Loving the green fabric on you and the red fabric for the tops ❤️❤️❤️... gorgeous 👌🥰😘
You can do it Sally, you could always practice just the zip part 😘
Your trousers are absolutely beautiful. I have never heard of this pattern company before but I am off to have a look. Thanks.
You’re welcome 😊
Love both these patterns and your makes ! I think the saying goes “blue and green should never be seen without a colour in-between”.
Ahhh that makes a lot more sense 😂
Not at all! It’s all about the tones- cool blue and cool green or vice versa can look stunning
@@moira7083 I agree with you but I was only QUOTING the old saying, hence the QUOTATION marks. I wasn’t giving styling advice.
You should make the matching blazer, that color is wonderful on you. The blazer could then also be worn with a great skirt, dress or a plaid pair of pants for the holidays. I love both of these makes on you, you can tell you have been working out, you look great.
Patricia, I do not need encouragement! I'm sooooooo tempted that if they still have the fabric in next time I go I'll probably get some - in fact, it's 50/50 that I might just get in the car and go today 😂
Love the jacket and trousers combination - just gorgeous! I made a Sewaholic Renfrew with the cowl neck with some Isabella jersey in the past. The gorgeous drape made a perfect cowl neck.
Wow a Renfrew - that's a blast from the past! I think that was my first indie sewing pattern 😄😄
Beautiful trousers, Alex! And great tip for improving PJ waistbands!
Thanks so much!
Make the blazer! Wear it with a tee shirt and it will look amazing. This outfit has my name all over it - I loved the smith jacket when it came out and now I see it made up I love it even more. Those trousers look so good on you….I have some cobalt blue linen/cotton blend that I got in a sale for a crazy price ($3 a metre…about £6….which is cheap for here!) and I am super tempted to make them both in this fabric. With my go to black and white striped tee I think would be great. Thanks for the inspiration! I always think about nature when I hear those so called colour rules…it used to be blue and green should never be seen too but how many plants and shrubs have green leaves and blue or red flowers? I think the red will look gorgeous on you. ❤ Would an Unwind sweater work in the red and tucked into your Billy trousers?
I can so see this being your kind of thing Leanne 😀. I caved in yesterday and bought some more fabric to make the blazer! I don't know why I was kidding myself. Cobolt linen sounds delicious and perfect for the job. You're right by the way it was Blue and Green not red - which makes more sense, but still as you say nature would disagree. Thanks for your support Leanne 💓
LOVE seeing the inside of the pants!
I have had the same concern with pleated pants so it's good to know that these may be an option.
It's comforting to know it's not just me 😀❤
Love both makes. I have also tended to avoid trousers with pleates but I think part of the trick is to sew them down to just the right point, and to get the overall fit right to start with. I am very tempted to try these as they look so good on you.
Very true! I don't think I did anything different to the pattern, so they must have taken that into account - hooray!
Great trousers, but I love the jacket pattern. I’m definitely bookmarking it, your suggestion about a spring linen jacket is spot on. I should put in my calendar for March 🇨🇦
Me too 😄❤
Great makes. They both look excellent on you. And definitely make the matching jacket or you will regret it.
Thank you, I'm afraid I didn't last very long - I dashed off yesterday and bought enough fabric for the jacket 😂
Your trousers are fabulous! And, that red jersey is just luscious. Maybe something like the Southbank sweater. Isn’t that the one that is shorter? You wouldn’t want it cropped so much, but short enough to show the lovely detail in those beautiful trousers!
yep, that's exactly my thinking - I haven't made a Southbank and it's very popular - I'll go and have a look at it, thank you for the reminder ❤
The Westcliff dress Friday pattern. Also has instructions for making into a top. I really like it as a dress which I make as a midi and I lengthened the sleeves. It might make a lovely top to go with your trousers?
Thanks Jan, I googled it and it's a beauty but I think I'd save it for warmer weather - I just hope I remember as my memory is dreadful.
I’m so pleased to hear this as I’ve just bought this trouser pattern
Hooray, do let me know how you get on
Hi Alex, love your makes! The red wool would look fab in the Friday Pattern Company Elysian bodysuit. It has lovely style lines.
Great idea!! 😘
Lovely trousers and thanks for the super tip on boden pyjamas, I’ve had exactly the same problem with my old pair!
You are so welcome!
I love those trousers on you! so much so....I downloaded the pattern and I'm making them tomorrow!
I'm jealous 😄💚
Lovely makes. You should make the green blazer because it is your color and you could wear them as separates. Look at the Iris from Forget me not patterns
Shhh, I'm even closer to going to get the fabric with each comment 💚 I think I've got the Iris pattern, will have another look, thank you.
Those trousers and jacket are so so lovely ❤
You r so skilled at what u create .
I live in Europe in a hot country with mild winters , What fabric would u recommend for the Smith jacket , I however prefer not to sew it in linen for the colder months . U encouraged me to give it a try ! 😊.
What about a linen/wool blend?
The trousers are great. I felt the same about pleated trouser and my tummy (you explained it clearly) and the pattern has completely addressed that, the pleats are genius. I might try them, though being under 5’4” wide legs can make my legs look stumpy. Love the jacket. It’s a bit like the stacker jacket which is great for heavier fabric. I think I’ll make one in linen next spring. Are you going to SewBrum? It would be good to have another Leeds meet!
Hmm, you could see if anyone similar height makes them. Yep, I'm down for SewBrum, I've missed going to sewing meet-ups so much that it's worth the drive 😄. As it's the weekend I can use Dave's car, which is electric so it'll be guilt free!
You should make a Macy Top from Sinclair Patterns in that red wool jersey. It would look awesome with those fabulous green slacks!!
Thanks so much, I'll have a look at that one 💚
@@AlexJudgeSews love the neckline on it too!
Love the trousers. What about a bodysuit for your red fabric?
I was thinking about the new Friday Pattern Co one!
🐯just to let you know Sew Essential sell the Isabella jersey and it’s a lot cheaper and yes it’s a lovely fabric .
Thanks for the tip! ❤
Lovely pair of trousers and jacket Alex. This look really suits you. Have you come across the "sweat Ysée" from L'usine à bulles #luabysée . I was thinking about this pattern when you show your fabric from Minerva. I have made the crop short sleeve version but there's also a longer version with long sleeves, which I am planning to make this winter.
I've just had a look and wow, it's a spectacular pattern thanks for the ti[p 🙏💓
I love the trousers. In the 1970's-1980's, I use to wear this style of trousers with the pleats. I think the pleats can help disguise the tummy if the fit is right. And I do love the jacket. Style Arc are my favourites. I think they are making more of an effort to give more detailed instructions, even going to the effort of making RUclips videos. Did you say you put elastic in the PJ waistband or just the draw string?
Ooh I didn't spot that Style Arc are doing tutorials, I'll hunt them out! There was already elastic, with velvet ribbon sewn at the ends so I recycled the whole thing. I think either elastic or some kind of drawstring would do the job. ❤
@@AlexJudgeSews I don’t know if they’ve done too many yet but it’s in their plans.
Gorgeous trousers!
Such a shame the pattern is not more size inclusive.
Agreed, let's hope there'll be an update soon
Hi Alex, when you made the Style Arc Smith jacket, did you do a full bust adjustment as I understand they draft their patterns for a B cup? Thank you Denise
Danke
Spray the jacket with Scotchguard to waterproof it, which is what we did at the dry cleaners in about 1971 and charged the customer $25!
Brilliant 🤩
Pants look great on you! I wonder if you inadvertently solved the potential pleats splaying issue by grading to a larger sized waistband?
I'm not sure, it's not a massive jump from 14 to 16, but I'm pleased it worked out ❤
Thanks for the great video - I wonder if you could make the jacket with length added to it in a soft linen and have it as a shirt - has anyone done this - thanks in advance
Great idea, I don't see why you couldn't!
Beautiful garments, as usual. I can’t decide between the Billy trousers and the VikiSews Adeline trousers. I have both patterns and fabric but can’t commit to one. Have you tried the Adelines?
I don't have the Adeline trousers, have only tried vikiSews once and the instructions weren't a patch on the Billy ones. ❤
Love the trousers! Would you say they are feasible for a beginner sewist? Most probably more ambitious than confident beginner:-)
Hmm I don’t know, it’s been a while since I was a beginner but why not give them a try. At least you don’t have to worry about any zips/fly fronts.
🇨🇦😃
Make a long sleeve Nikki top.
I'll check it out, thank you
Nikko
I'm sad. I love this pattern but it isn't in my size. I keep looking at it anyway but sigh. Yours are so perfect
Oh no! Hopefully she'll change that soon 💓
I’ve made the Fibre Mood peaches pattern which is very similar, perhaps that’s in your size
@@natasha4467 Thanks - looks like an idea. I'm thinking of the new Closet Core, the Deer and Doe Genet, one from By Hand London... but it's always the ones you can't have!
Very Katherine Hepburn 1940S style (pants)
Well that I take as a mega compliment! 😘
