Fun story, found some termite damage in the house. Started demoing to repair all the damage. Husband tears down drop down ceiling and the whole brood chamber of the colony falls on his head. My house is a mess haha
I keep finding 1 random carpenter ant randomly around my apartment. Sometimes crawling around my wall, along baseboards. I can't find a source. I have no idea where there coming from.
I had the same problem. Was killing at least 10 a day for about two weeks and I gave up. There was no end in sight. What worked incredibly well was Terro ant bait traps. I set out a couple of them in my apartment and the ants were completely gone within about two weeks. The freaky thing is once the ants discover the bait traps you’ll get about 25 of them in your place at once eating the bait but that’s normal. They take it back to the nest and it kills the queen and then you’re done.
@@12NEpatsfan they are not here anymore since yesterday.. My theory is that because we flush away each one of them, they are not sending scouters anymore to my address hahahaha
My mother in law swears she has carpenter ants but I told her it's termites. They pretty much ate the door frame of her back door. You can tap the molding and when it breaks there is big cavities behind it and no sign of the ants. Now when I plugged in a DVD player in her bedroom the electrical outlet was lose.
If you see rotting trees near your house should you have them cut down and taken away? I found a nest after I ripped of my fascia boards around my house. They were tunneling in the long wooden beam that forms the peak of your roof. I don't know if they got into my attick but I had a pest man check and he did not see any behind the insullation. They were also infested in my shed door which I did not know until a carpenter pulled the doors off to replace some rotting ones.
I just killed one on the carpet in my second floor bedroom. Over the past couple of days, I found one on my kitchen counter and one on the carpet in my family room, about 6 feet from the back door to my deck. Each time/place, it was just one lone ant.
It's important to stay vigilant if you're spotting lone ants in different areas. Carpenter ants can be exploratory, but it's wise to consider a professional inspection to ensure there's no underlying infestation.
So we have never had issues with ants in the 5 years we have lived here. The city did roadwork outside our house and in the nieghbourhood last summer and every once and while between August and September we'd see big black ants randomly either in the kitchen, or bathroom upstairs. There was usually only one, we'd see one and then not see any for a few days or see two and not see anymore for a week. Can roadwork displace current ant colonies and they were sending scouts to find new homes? Like a lot of heavy machinery moved through our area during the work. Tuesday morning, I spotted one in the downstairs bathroom, it got to about 10C on Monday so it was warm enough but it was so random and werid. We don't have issues with the wood, no saw piles, flying ants or see much around the house, so I don't know what is going on
@@jamessollazzo4860 they do eat termites but not whole colonies. They only eat what they need to feed there nest. So you can have both. They try to stay out of each other’s way. One colony can be on north side and the termites on your south. Had that problem myself. Never seen a ant 🐜 or termite in my house but they are around my yard turds at my trees. All 5 of them 50 footers to. Previous owners had a huge garden area a shed a man made doll house. It was a pain the arse first couple years trying to trim and cut those trees up and moving all the rocks around the house and gardens perfect protection for all bugs.
I rent and the aunts keep coming up thru the hardwood floors throughout the unit. From the bathroom, to the kitchen and even living room. Landlords not bothering to help with the issue. We tried bait and even covering some obvious areas of entry. But they're back again unfortunately, especially now that the heat is pumping . Not sure what to do.
Dealing with ants in a rental unit can be frustrating, especially when the landlord isn't providing assistance. Remember, it's important to consult with professionals and consider local regulations and laws regarding pest control in rental units to ensure a proper resolution to the issue.
When I saw the title I was thinking...How do you know you have carpenter ants? You wake up in the morning and you have new wooden chairs and table in your kitchen!"
The Carpenter Ants tend to have bigger chips falling on a area usually. They forage 10-2 at night. Velvety tree ants make a frass like parmesan cheese in a straight line. Discovering carpenter ants on the ceiling can be quite surprising! It's important to address the issue promptly to prevent any potential damage they may cause. Seeking professional assistance or implementing effective pest control measures can help ensure your home remains ant-free.
Hey, I need help. (In the comments, not real life.) I've been having carpenter ants appearing in my room out of nowhere. Why is this happening? I hate ants and I don't want them in my home. And I don't have anymore food in my room.
Do you have a tree relatively close to that room? A lot of colonies can be found in the trunk of the trees and they wonder in looking for food, water/moisture.
KSound Kaiju Yeah carpenter ants don’t die off during the winter, they remain dormant until warmer weather unless your house is nice, warm, with the foods they like, then they skip their hibernation and keep reproducing.
Carpenter ants are in my large maple 20ft. from the back of my house. Today one ant was in my Living room!! If I try to kill by my tree, will they all run into my house??!! Help, what should I do?
In a week or two we recently found between nine or eleven what we think might be carpenter ants in our bathroom. All were killed right away. We covered up the drains, they only seem to be coming in our one bathroom. Sigh… guess we have to get someone out to check. We have a deck, so maybe they’ve invested the deck? We thought the wood was treated, but learned today, seventeen years later, that the tested would only last like two years, the protection.
Well I searched this bc I went downstairs in midnight and I see a big black quick ant lookin like I was scared but nothing to be scared off House; destroyed Me: MOM DAD HOUSE IS SHIT
Nice but slightly offensive as I am an ant keeper I have 2 Queens that are successfully laid brood which I hope will become the nanintics of the colonies
We hope that your endeavors are successful! I really enjoy insects and arachnids in the wild and have had several pets. It just takes a different tone when they are invading someone's life.
1- seeing carpenter ants in your house
Thats why im here. Saw 3 large black ants in my home just today!
@@hisbeautifultruth5931 They might be queen ants
Lol your comment made me laugh

Carpenter ants only chew wet wood.... keep it dry.

They are probably queens and are looking for a place to make a colony after nuptial flight days
good news: they eat termites, so unlikely you have termites!

Unlike termites, they don’t eat wood. And spit out a substance resembling saw dust

They like rooms it might be hot an they need moisture
You might have to pour water and kill them and cover the holes with tape or anything that can cover it

I occasionally see one or two crawling around

lol they literally burrow into wood which means if it happens for long enough your rooms, ceilings, walls etc will start to collapse
