    This reminds me, never put mulch anywhere near your house. Yes the termites love the mulch and will build a colony in it. Best to keep a distance away around the house.

      @@juliocamacho8354 For sure. Space it out a bit. At least 2-4 inches from the house with fabric underneath and no more than a 2" layer, you should be fine.

    I just came across this video searching about termites after discovering them in our yard. My husband and I were removing the mulch in flower beds and around trees in our yard to replace with rocks. I found little white ant-looking bugs crawling after removing sections of the cedar edging surrounding one of the trees. I had no idea they were termites until I was hosing the edging a few minutes later and noticed chunks of wood missing from the bottom of some sections. I had never seen termites before but instantly realized that is what they were, a couple even crawled out of the holes. I showed my husband who confirmed it We had just purchased the edging four months ago and it never crossed either of our minds that using cedar edging or mulch would be a concern for termites. I am kind of annoyed because that edging was pricey but also grateful to have discovered them when we did. It will not be put back; instead replaced with stone edging.

    Let me clarify something for everyone and this reporter: subterranean termites are a type of termite in which there are multiple species. The one that she is referring to, as the very destructive one is the subterranean formosans. There is a species that is called the eastern subterranean. The eastern subterranean is nowhere near as destructive as the Formosan. These are the ones that showed up in Hallandale Florida in the 1980s.

  • @sfulghum81
    @sfulghum81 Год назад +4

    We have 2 different types of subterranean termites in Florida. The ones they are talking about in this video are Formosan termites that are invasive. We also have the native species or eastern subterranean termites. I've been with Massey services for 6 yrs and have seen so much damage from them.

    I've noticed the ones that like to occasionally invade my room come out only when I turn my bedroom light off. They make very small holes in my wall, or ceiling. I've put drywall spackling to ceal the holes as a temporary fix. They have not broken through in about a week now, but I'm sure they'll show up again.

    Termites are not attracted to sentricon stations! It’s called random foraging. Larger colonies forage more, so it works better on Formosans.

    My dad put dead wood against the holiday house to build a ramp for rain water. He wanted to save money for plant irrigation. I inherited the holiday home and have to invest 80k to rebuild the wooden roof. He did all the wrong things. Moisture, dead wood and plants close to the house, even touching the roof. Otherwise rational man, well read and informed made such fatal mistakes....

    I live in Louisiana and we have Formosan termites here. The previous owner of the house I bought 3 years ago left it seriously neglected. The bathroom drain has a hole in the slab where they often gain entrance however, the damage to the shower stall wall is high up in the top plate area and the lower part still intact. They're all long gone and I have no active infestation and have a liquid barrier however am dealing with the repairs.

    What does a person do when they’re poor and they can’t afford to get rid of the termites, except maybe getting on a payment plan that is very low. I live in a single wide mobile home that has been permanently fixed to the property. I also have an addition that is attached to my mobile home and that is where the termites have entered. They are in my ceiling, baseboards, oh dear Lord Jesus I need a prayer

    This year we had major subterranean termite infestation. But at the same time we had some pool rusting (concrete pool) right where the worst of the termites were. I know they dont eat concrete but is it possible for them to make exploratory holes into the pool concrete looking for food/water (thereby allowing water to hit the rebar and rust?? Anyone hear anything like this?

    Doing research after finding some and bates can attract NEW termites. They can be making their way to the bate but stop at your house and never make it to bate trap. Not the best way to treat them.
