The average South African is stereotypically bigger, more harder and more physically imposing than the average person on earth in all statistics whether it's RG Snyman(size) or Bryan Habana(speed) or Wayde van Niekerk(athletic world record holder) but one thing I respect about kiwis is that they don't care about our brilliance and give us motivation to be our best. I wish the AB's well in the most epic event since 1995 which the world is still guessing, gambling and pondering with regards to that fourth trophy. Both teams deserve the attention for this massive RWC contest and whoever wins will enhance the new generation of ambitious players that only heard about 1995 through the media and encyclopedia articles. Thank you to the IRB for pulling off another great tournament, money well spent and today I'm proud as a saffa to meet the mighty NZ team again to decide who stands on the top with this historic match up for a fourth which is already described as ridiculous concept but true to other tiers. SA and NZ rule rugby and the rivalry will continue to stand above the other lower ranked rivalries worldwide.

Nerve wracking just thinking of the final. I hope that rubbish going around the circles that the English brought to light concerning Bongi using Wit Kant & them interpreting as a racial slur hasn't dampened the bokke spirit in any way. I reckon their strong mental resolve focusing what's in front of them as a team that has never been beaten in a final, is their resolve. The bokke could easily had another 1 or 2 RWC's if they had played in 1987 & 1991!.
SA 🇿🇦 would have to be the favorites & we have to figure out how to take the Cup away from them. Let the predicted wet weather stay away, so we can have a great running game. A forever AB ❤ fan.

  • @dhirshg

It's either the Boks will win due to their many tough games (in being battle-hardened) or NZ will due to their many easy games (in being fresher). Boks have literally had one easy match (Romania) while NZ have literally had two hard matches(France and Ireland - in fact, the Ireland game looked like an easy one - they never trailed).

Taking that into account, would it not be better that we play end of year (oct-nov) series (3 matches) against a single nation. I have a feeling that would help all countries improve their games and also force the British isles to convert/build capacity stadiums which should also aid the club game. And also maybe a single game against a tier 2 nation to improve their experience.

Allblacks have to be the favourites Easier run in, an extra day, have taken less physical toll on their bodies.

This final is likely to be just one match too many for the Boks. They’ve had an incredibly tough path to the final and although they’ve done well to spread the minutes, most of their key players are close to burnout. Under different circumstances I would have given them a big chance to take it, but unfortunately not this time, also with a relatively fresh All Blacks team that’s very much on the up and close to peaking. My prediction, sadly, is a relatively comfortable win for the AB’s. Still fingers crossed for the Boks.

So with the hard fought wins they have had they are well hardened for this match with self belief from 3 close games and will be well rested and set to go. Contrast that to All Blacks having relatively easy games, not tough or any real mental hardness required for those. In 2029 we beat SA and Ireland we thrashed…then bombed against England. England got stuck into us, after a run of easy games we just weren’t prepared for that tough game and got beaten badly…so many parallels to this years final. I hope we have learnt from the poor conditioning and prep then, but I would say hard games before a final builds you better for it than not having them. Still, I will back the All Blacks! Bring back the precious!

On the other hand, the Bokke know how to handle the big moments. This they have proven in the last two very tough games. What we have not seen much of, is the brilliance of the Bok outside backs. Lets hope for a day with no rain to show the best of both tems.
My heart says Bokke, My mind says AB's. All I can say is, this is the best possible combination for a Final. If the Bokke have to lose, then at least it will be against the other best team in the world. Good luck Bokke, Good luck AB's.

As always - you guys deliver excellent content, thank you.
At the start of the World Cup I had a France Nee Zealand final.. always fancied the All Blacks and laughed at all those (particularly Irish fans) who discounted them.
They have timed their build up to the final perfectly and unfortunately for us (as a Springbok fan) I think they will have too much on the day for us. I think that not because on our day we can’t win - because any of the top 4 can beat each other - but more so because I think our team are physically battered after a World Cup that has seen us play all the top 6 (bar New Zealand) up to this point, a physically exhausting semi final (whereas New Zealand cruised theirs) and its this game above all others, where I think we will miss Marx.
I hope it’s dry (although forecast not being kind at the mo) and that we have a yet another spectacular match like we have had at this World Cup (thank you France for being unbelievable hosts)..
    may the best team win.

What stands out to me is that there is no mention here of the fact that the Springboks were out on their feet in the game against the English. They had just come off an incredibly intense and passionate match against France and simply weren't up for the challenges that England posed. Despite all of that (likely the worst performance by the Springboks in a very long time?), they still managed to win the game.
If you ask me, the Springboks had their poor game. They see themselves as the underdogs, and that always makes a Springbok team very, very dangerous.

Great idea from Chris Minto re the quarter final draw. Only problem is it would mean it doesn't matter whether you finish 1st or 2nd in your pool, so it takes away some of the excitement and meaning from those big pool games. That could be fixed with a slight tweak. Sort the teams who finished 1st in their pool by their world ranking, and then make them play the teams who finished 2nd in their pool, sorted in reverse order by their world ranking. In this tournament, that method would have given us a quarter final draw of:
    IRE vs FIJ
    FRA vs ARG
    ENG vs NZL
    WAL vs SAF

    • @gabefabe6706
      @gabefabe6706 11 месяцев назад +1

An equally great "tweak" to a great idea, matey. However, I think World Rugby would ultimately reject the idea, for two reasons. The non-cynical reason is the possibility of two teams from the same pool facing each other again in the quarters (eg the 1st & 8th ranked teams had been in the same pool) or semis. The cynical reason is, well, I'm sure you can guess...

Is this a New Zealand podcast or SA? They spoke for so long about how good the Boks were and raved so much about Rassie, and how the players play for him etc. Fair point, and I am sure it is true, but the same should have been said about Fozzie - the players back him and want to play for him. I have listened to this podcast for a couple of years, and two of the three commentators have never been Fozzie supporters, and this has been clear. They could have the decency now that the ABs are in the final, to give more credit to Fozzie and his coaching team, other than 'you have to credit Fozzie for how he has handled the past 2 years of public scrutiny'...the fact is that he is a dam good coach, and the players want to play for him!

Thanks for including my question tonight Ross...absolutely love the show....fantastic analysis of the game by all three of you...would have loved to have seen Ireland make it through but unfortunately like you said until we get over the line , all the preparation, rankings, form and favorite tags count for nothing in knockout rugby...south africa and new zealand have been there and done it and in the last 20 minutes have that sheer belief we just dont have at the moment...eventually we will get there but I just don't think we will ever get a better chance to make a final or win it...practically had home field advantage with the support , no injuries and a team at the peak of thier powers with every box ticked and still couldn't execute in the crunch moments...I fear this quarter final loss could have a physiological affect on the Irish team for some time but I hope I'm wrong...good luck to both teams at the weekend....I have the All Blacks to win...I fear South Africa last two games and the group stage in general to get there may take it out of them but it's South Africa so they seem to always find a way...

My knowledge of what the Irish team play for is very poor so excuse me if I make an inaccurate assessment but from what I see winning knockout games at a world cup requires more than just being the best team with the best strategy, it requires a passion, a belief, a pride in what you are playing for that transcends the game. Those players are literally willing to put their lives on the line for their country because they know what it means to the people back home. Have a look at the 2 teams in the final, how they are with each other. They are not team mates, they are brothers that are prepared to go to war together. I don't see that in any of the NH teams?? or am I wrong?

Re viewer suggestion - you can’t have one city host all the quarter finals unless it is a multi stadium city.. and even then, you have significant issues with hotels for teams, staff, never mind supporters.. and if you using more than one city, it becomes an issue in countries where games can be spread far apart (eg Australia 2027). It also doesn’t solve the group issue which I think was more an issue than the knockouts in this World Cup (ask Scotland)

If they had beaten Ireland in the pools then they would have met the ABs in the qrtrs n went home early or faced the pumas in the semis. So they really had the easier draw not to face the ABs earlier or they might not have made it to the big game.
Just a lame excuse to claim the underdog tag n gain sympathy from the neutrals which is not the mindset u wanna be carrying into the final. But all the best to both teams. May the better team win. ABs all day.

The only issue I see with the suggested play offs system is that it makes winning your pool pointless. Say Ireland ranked 1 and South Africa ranked 2 are in a pool together. If South Africa beat Ireland and Ireland come 2nd in the pool, they'd still play the lowest qualifier as they were ranked number 1 before the tournament. South Africa will still end up with the harder game even though they won their pool. Not to mention this system would do nothing for a team like Scotland ranked 5 but in a pool with South Africa and Ireland.

    • @agz471

I agree…but is this only an issue because Ireland (the so-called no. 1 team) we’re knocked out? I say leave things the way they are coz it’s not the AB’s fault they knocked them out and it’s not anyone else’s fault that Ireland can’t get passed the quarter finals…the Southern Hemisphere dominate the RWC no matter what the draw looks like

I really dont see any difference. Leave things as they are . What if South Africa beaten Ireland? It wouldnt made any difference. The islanders had hard games. Everyone knew the draw before world cup. So nothing is guaranteed. All blacks lost to France, and went on to win the the rest. South africa lost to ireland and went in to win regardless of the score. That is how it is. You wun some and lose some Not All blacks fault they got the draw they got. Quarters, semis and finals is knockout and if you bring it on n dont finish to win thats the way it is. All Blacks n Springboks are in final. They were hungry enough to get there.

You then take the best to worst world ranked quarter-finalists and place them in the pool juxtaposed to the best ranked semi-finalist. .... oh my now i am even getting confused 🤣 Anyways World Rugby has got to find a solution.

I'm not even mad about what the commentators are saying. I'm much more disappointed in the South Africans that are showing a spirit of cowardice, lining up excuses in advance. They're not worthy to be Springbok fans.

😂 why cause the props knee was on the ground? Sooo much luck. Definitely nothing to do with the laws of the game.
