Zagorsk is a Soviet name of town currently called Sergiev Posad. I'm assuming it's chosen because it has Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius which is the most important Russian monastery and a spiritual center of Russian Orthodox Church. It's huge! Also, the legend is that Russian Matryoshka doll originates from that place.
I'm Catholic and I've always worn Avignon for most of the funeral services that I've attended since I've gotten it. It kinda fits and brings back dear memories of the loved ones who have departed.
Indian incense is usually very sweet and floral, most of the joss sticks available in spiritual stores are Indian. Japanese incense is a lot more refined, usually includes notes of plum blossom, cedarwood, aloeswood, sandalwood and fig. Japanese incense produces very little smoke as there is no bamboo stick in the centre. I’d like to see a perfume based on Tibetan incense which tends to be more herbal and smokey. The closest fragrance I’ve smelled to Tibetan incense is Guerlain Santal Royal. The purpose of incense burning in the eastern religions is to send the prayers up to the heavens from the temples
I need to spray all of these in the air and say a prayer for wtf is going on in this world right now 😂 I'm only familiar with avignon so it was great to learn more about the rest of what they have to offer from you both ☺
Love, love, LOVE incense fragrances. I had a decant of Ouarzazate years ago, and from memory it was sublime, very subdued, and unfortunately didn't last long. Great reviews (as always), and good to see you both!
I tried a frag calked Botafumeiro by Carner Barcelona which is meant to evoke the censors of Catholic church. BTW my Mom used to take me to Greek Orthodox church also- I loved the incense.
Jaisalmer is the desert city in India. Incense in India is mostly used for worshiping n stuff and some ppl use in houses also for both spiritual/worshiping or just to make rooms smell good. Yes spices/sandalwood/benzine etc. are used to make incense smoke in India.
I once dropped and broke a bottle of Herod, by Parfums de Marly. To be honest, I was relieved. Who ever heard of tobacco being cloying? In a week I was already sick of it. Now I'm hoping for a similar "accident" (Freudian slip?) with my Jo Malone Myrrh & Tonka, a rash blind buy. I do love me my Comme des Garçons, though. I have Avignon, Sequoia and Black (which is the closest thing you'll ever know to wearing a campfire--weird, I know; it takes me back to my Boy Scout years).
I have been practising meditation for years.. Traditionally burning japanese encens sticks, some fragrances of this Série by R Kawakuko have the same spirit. She is a genuine artist.
I own a few Comme des Garcon bottles, including Avignon, 2 Man, and, a personal favorite, Blue Encens. Apparently, Jaisalmer smells a lot like Blue Encens so I'll have to try that.
Oddly, the hunt that this video sent me off on led me to a CdG fragrance that intrigued me far more than any of these incense ones, though it seems to own a vaguely incensey-like kick of its own: Scent One: Hinoki. I think that's where I'm going.
Yes, when you comment on a fragrance being "orthodox" and therefore closer to your upbringing, there is perhaps a slight misconception there, as the Armenian Apostolic Church is a profoundly different tradition from the Orthodox (Russian, Greek, Ukrainian, etc.) churches. The Armenian Church really isn't part of that "college" of churches but a thing all its own. I suspect too that their incense is rather different, for both traditional and geographical reasons. So it doesn't surprise me when you say that you don't find the Zagorsk to be what you remember as incense.
Great comment. I have read somewhere that Jaisalmer is closer to Russian Orthodox incense due to a certain ingredient used, but cannot recall which. I have Zagorsk, and do not find it familiar with any incense I have experienced in either Russian, Greek, or Serbian Orthodox liturgies. I will say, if CDG made a Greek Orthodox incense-one that captures the smell of majorana flower, it would be heavenly.
Really looking forward to hearing what you say about these. I'm crazy for incense, so I'm deeply intrigued to see what the nuances of differences will be between these and which most appeals to you.
ordered samples of all of these besides Kyoto, from Lucky Scent (Kyoto samples out of stock) plus will be getting a sample of Ouarzazate as well (4 total). Can't wait to try them.
😳 woe - those fragrances are awesome. sampled them all and every single one is really unique at least to my nose. Avignon reminded me instantly to church . The opening of Jalislamer smells like fresh Hashish to me. Kyoto is a Beautyfull floral for me 👍😀 Thanks
This series of fragrances has always piqued my interest as I'm a fan of incense perfumes. Hopefully I can sample them at some point. It would be great if you could find that fifth one and do a review for it. As always, I love watching your joint videos with Dalya. Hope you're doing well!
There's incense and there's incense. If you think of it as just what you smell in church, that's a very narrow profile. But if you think about all the different varieties you might pick up in some "hippie"-style shop, "incense" had a far wider profile. And what they consider incense in Japan is likely quite foreign to western experience. I'd be drawn to the Avignon except for the vanilla, which immediately puts me off. So I think it's the Kyoto that's most pulling me here. Except I want to go find out more about the "Arabian" one you didn't have. And that would reflect a whole different incense tradition, I'm sure.
I remember that Ouarzazate was my favorite from this line. However, I've just pulled out my sample to retest and describe it here and can't smell anything at all! Maybe I have coronavirus?? o_O
Wish I were living near you... so would be your friend. Would love to smell with you. Not my most liked video, usually love it when you get someone on with their point of view.
Don't mean to sound creepy but can we have 'your body chemistry' in a bottle because a LOT of fragrances seem to work with your chemistry. Ok, that sounds creepy..
Hi Sebastian! Have you ever tried Luxe Champaca by Comme des Garçons? Could you tell me something about it? I don't know whether to buy it or not. Thank you so much for answering!

Thank you for sharing this information, I visited Zagorsk, beautiful, love that sity

Avigon is made for vampires hunters
Avignon is my favourite, lasts long enough, has a wonderful classy church incense, and a slightly soapy side, probably the chamomile
I absolutely love Avignon. I’m a big fan of Frankincense and Olibanum is just that. This fragrance is so so relaxing.

I’m on my third bottle of Kyoto, wonderful scent. Great review of it.
One of my favourite
Had Kyoto a few years ago. Was just thinking about it the other day, found it very calming. I need to re-acquire. Enjoyed. 🤙🏻
Incense is associated with the element of air. It's suppose to carry the prayers to the heavens. Also acts as an energy cleanser.
I own and love Avignon. You have me curious about the others now,
still Avignon is my Holy Grail for Incense.
I love the cooking and baking metaphor and the pray/meditate metaphor. These sound wonderful!
Kyoto is so calming, beautiful in the winter while meditating. Unfortunately doesn’t have staying power
Great to see Mr. Sebastian and Dalya. Great thoughts and reviews.
I need to spray all of these in the air and say a prayer for wtf is going on in this world right now 😂
I'm only familiar with avignon so it was great to learn more about the rest of what they have to offer from you both ☺
I have used/owned all of these for years, and AVIGNON has been my hub, all others in the Series 3 are spokes in order to switch it up now and then.
Makes sense.
Love, love, LOVE incense fragrances. I had a decant of Ouarzazate years ago, and from memory it was sublime, very subdued, and unfortunately didn't last long. Great reviews (as always), and good to see you both!

I smelt all of them and finally fell in love with Jaisalmer!!! Which from my point of you is the easiest to wear.
But all of them are lovely
Nice and perfectly done description. They are really professionals.
Thank you very much!

Enablers!!! I used to live in Japan and Kyoto sounds exactly what it was like so literally just bought a sample.
Dalya ❤️ appearing in a video to view makes quarantine so much better :)
Hello Mr Zanshin! Nice to see you in the comments this fine quarantine. Hope you are well

My fave over Avignon is..........Jaisalmer.. much more woody and almost lumberyard(ish) which i appreciate alot more..more wearable i think
We need more of Dalya in our blood ❤️

YSL - NU was created when TF was in charge of YSL, it was released together with M7. True masterpiece.

I use Kyoto for years- to me its a brother of encre noir...maybe more soft. its amazing
I‘ll get a decant in a few days, hopefully it‘s how it has been described 🙌🏼🙌🏼

try Naomi Goodsir, Bois d'Ascese for the holy grail of incense
Kyoto and Jaisalmer are the best according to me in the "série Incense" colection of CdG
ordered samples of all of these besides Kyoto, from Lucky Scent (Kyoto samples out of stock) plus will be getting a sample of Ouarzazate as well (4 total). Can't wait to try them.
Thanks for the extensive review :)
I've just bought Kyoto after having finished my bottle of Avignon!
Hope you enjoy it!
Avignon to me smells like a hike in the dry hills of the Angeles Forest. Very dry but sweet like dry sage brush.
Who is this model in the picture?
Yaaaayy Dalya 🙂, I hope she is well and safe
she is! hope you are as well
😳 woe - those fragrances are awesome. sampled them all and every single one is really unique at least to my nose. Avignon reminded me instantly to church . The opening of Jalislamer smells like fresh Hashish to me. Kyoto is a Beautyfull floral for me 👍😀 Thanks
L'Artisan Perfumeur's Mon Numero 10 is pretty insense-y 😁
I don't remember that one so I must check! :)
Bought a bottle of Nu last year at Heathrow. Was surprised it is still made. Frankincense a gogo!!
My grandfather wore Incense Kyoto so the smell is very sentimental…
Nice. I bought Kyoto in Kyoto last November, then this week bought Avignon on the recommendation of you both.
And my longest lasting incense is Or Encens by Issey Miyake. It's rose-heavy but one of the most beast-mode fragrances I have.
Mare Crisium Is it a nice one?
Sibyl Haynes, it's beautiful. But strictly winter wear since it's pretty nuclear.
Montale Full Incense is very similar to Avignon and is very long lasting.
I have NU all of it the Lotion body wash but the original from Tom Ford bought it early 2000's
Quero muito esse perfume onde encontrar o encenso zagorsk série 3
Gone through two bottles of Avignon, looking to pick up Kyoto.
Did you pick up Kyoto?
So interested in these scents.
On day two Jalislamer reminds me more that wood chips / pencil shave from Encre Noir L'Extreme.

Great vid! Unum opus 1144- beautiful fragrance...powdery, citrusy, ambery incense :)
Love this video!
Kyoto smells just like the shrines in Japan
When I think of "Indian" incense I think of the ubiquitous Nag Champa in the blue and red box.

Found out more about the Arabian one. Nope. But the trail led me finally to Hinoki.
Very interested in this video ! I love wonderoud !
How about longevity and siage for zagorsk and avignon? I really want to buy these 2.
I have Kyoto and mix it with a citrus scent
You gonna get like some sorta of trademark volition . Hilarious when she said that 😂 . Great video !
I remember that Ouarzazate was my favorite from this line. However, I've just pulled out my sample to retest and describe it here and can't smell anything at all! Maybe I have coronavirus?? o_O
Thank you i will make sure my first bottle is wrapped 🫔 up like a baby cdg red letters 🔤🎉
I love Avignon
The incense in the perfumes, in my opinion, is most likely the frankincense w/ some other notes (such as spice notes).
What was the name of those beast mode incense fragrances?
I have the incense fragrance La Religieuse by Serge Lutens. You should check it out.
The opening is nice and the rest of the fragrance is musky.
Jaisalmer is a city in the state of RAJASTAN In INDIA.
Great video and I enjoyed it and I'm going to try these fragrances and have a blessed day
Heeley Cardinal is bombastic
We speak about Cardinal here in this video: ruclips.net/video/fO5TpPgzWLM/видео.html
Thx Sebastian..
Living in perfect harmony 🎤🎼lol
Love CdG Incense Series. Zagorsk and Kyoto are my favorites ☺️
I've been wanting to try a couple of these for so long, not easy to find near me.
Incense is used a lot in Hindu pujas..
Wish I were living near you... so would be your friend. Would love to smell with you. Not my most liked video, usually love it when you get someone on with their point of view.
You two have just wildly different noses! Which is an amusing demonstration of reality.
Don't mean to sound creepy but can we have 'your body chemistry' in a bottle because a LOT of fragrances seem to work with your chemistry. Ok, that sounds creepy..
Can't find anything about Ouarzazate on RUclips. People don't like Islam. I was a Christian. I came to Islam.
cry
Maybe because oarzazate is Islamic incense! *Gasp* I don't know... Just tossing a random idea out there
