" the pen is truly mightier than the sword " i love this movie it's one of my top 10 favorites michael keaton will always be my favorite batman movie and jack nicholson will always be my favorite joker
me too.
Me too!! 😍🎚️✌🏻
It's curious that the same phrase is said in the two biggest blockbusters of that summer of 1989, this and Last Crusade.
Me too I agree with you , I love Tim Burtons Batman movies he’s a genius
@@vilavidi878you’re right! And in both movies Pens were used as weapons!
Bruce Wayne casually walking through the shootout and not even flinching when he gets shot is one of the most badass things in the movie, and he's not even Batman when he does it
he's always Batman. Bruce Wayne is his most frequent undercover identity.
It's not badass and it's not casual. He's in a state of shock.
@@jonahfalcon1970man i saw die is alive and now a deranged clown.
I always thought a bullet happen to ricochet off the building and graze his jacket sleeve

I love the symbolism of hitting half of Harvey's face and the TV lighting on fire, too bad it never went anywhere
The symbolism of the joker hitting the TV and it sparking fire symbolises the joker hitting the TV and it sparking on fire
Nice catch! They should've followed up in the sequel.
@@OingoBoingoTapes I think you misunderstood what @grkpektis meant. He meant that Harvey was supposed to become Two Face in Batman Returns, but it never happened.
Oh, it went somewhere. It's just not somewhere a lot of people didn't want it to go.

Nice callback to The Scarecrow in his cameo in “The Dark Knight”.
"Hello Vinny, It's your Uncle Bingo, time to pay the check."

Reporter: Does this gang war dampen the city’s 200th anniversary festival, Mr. Borg?
Mayor Borg: The festival opens and the police are going to stop these gangsters.
Reporter: Mr. Dent! Mr. Dent! What do you think the theory is that Batman is a mob enforcer?
Harvey Dent: I don’t have any comment about it.

Joker: Batman? BAT-MAN?! Can somebody tell me what kind of a world we live in where a man dressed up as a BAAT gets all my press?!
*turns to Bob*
Joker: This town needs an enema!
*Blows party blower twice*
Nicholson will always be my favorite Joker. His dialogue throughout the movie is amazing.
Wonderful.
@GABRIELA-ACEVEDO I think between Nicholson and Ledger, both Joker's were great. Nicholson's Joker was more of a comedy Joker where he would laugh at things that were not funny, acted immature, and said something silly before doing a crime. Ledger's Joker was more of a serious Joker where he would pop out of nowhere to do a crime which was scary.
@@afriendofbean exactly, both were great. Both different. Can't go wrong with either.
@@GABRIELA-ACEVEDO. I agree.
@@afriendofbean Not at all. watch it again.
A reminder that Joker has been killing people with stationary supplies long before John Wick.
Jack Wickolson
Also,,, "The pen, is truly mightier, than the sword." So true!! I say that all the time. A pencil works as well. Ask my 8th grade lab partner, who has a piece of lead still stuck in his arm since, 1995. Lol!!
With the little difference that even the Joker will never EVER mess with John Wick.
Also, a little under 20 years later, he had a magic trick, which also predates the great Wick.
Jok Wicker
I just LOVED the stylized look of Gotham with reporters and people wearing hats and trench coats like it's the 40s. It made such a surreal looking world and I LOVED that. It really added character to the city. Little things like that are missing from these other Batman movies.
“Well Ms Vail. Another rooster in the henhouse!”
Another great line of his 😂
The look on Bob’s face isn’t even amused for Jack as he whines and breaks the tv. It’s pity and fear. Love it. Even though Jack has told him “you are my number one guy”. Bob understands that and the implications that if Jack keeps going mad, he might just turn on him too if he doesn’t do a good job.
Love rewatching and checking out the smaller details and reactions on the supporting characters faces
absolutely spot on observation!
i caught that look too.
a subtlety in acting that is missing in today's movies.
i know why... but thats a rant for another time lol
Especially when the joker inevitably killed him for Bat's actions
Bob, gun
I always think Tracey Walter is doing his best not to break character in this scene. Look at him! He's trying not to smile. 😊
You are my number one guy is a warning. Look what happened to Grissom.
Remember when this movie was first released and everyone was wearing the related memorabilia tee shirts? Joker tees, Batman tees, Joker and Batman tees. This movie was absolutely huge.
Kid at my HS showed up for the first day of school driving a black Ford Probe with a Batman symbol front license plate.
Ford Probe! Lol! I thought those were so cool when I was in High school. One of my buddies had one and we all envied him. It was Foot-mobile for us.
@@frankbarron1907 It was supposed to replace the Mustang. Like, what? But they were ahead of their time. Just compare the look to the redesigned 5th generation Prius that's gotten so much good press this past year.
My nephew has one of new Prius. I have to say, they are pretty fancy. Especially in comparison to the old models.
I was 8 years old and it was literally all we talked about. I had EVERYTHING, the game on Commedore 64, the album by Prince I played none stop on my dads record player, the toys, a tshirt and hat with the black and gold logo. I was obsessed. Good times. The best times.
1:15 - I love Joker's smile in this scene.
Keaton displaying the duality of the character is fantastic!
This kind of operatic, flamboyant, performances are lacking this days with modern versions of the joker. All that gritty realism is ok for certain movies but I wish we had more of his psychopathic jokes and antics
This movie was always supposed to be darkly comical.
Even worse with real life psychopaths - very little in the way of panache.
Well said. It’s good to have realism, but I would say the theatrical flare and almost vaudevillian touch are severely missed.
It’s what makes the Batman villains such a wonderfully stark contrast to the Dark Knight: yes, he is grim and serious, but the adversaries he faces are so oft comical and goofy, which almost serves to make them a little bit more empathetic than this person who’s never laughed or smiled once.
It’s a good yin and yang: the Joker succumbed to the pains of the world, and goes mad with laughter for it, while Batman refuses to let the world get him down, but he will never smile or try to be happy. And I know it’s not as cut and dried as that, but it does seem to be at times.
I like both
Nicholson is the definitive Joker!
The pen is truly mightier than the sword.
Anyone else notice Bruce getting shot at 1:37 and not reacting?
Knowing him, he likely had armour underneath.
It just makes him look even more badass. 🤟
The guy is truly shocked and amazed that some psychopath is that stupid to commit murder in broad daylight dresses as a clown with mines with guns.
He couldn’t believe and he saw it. He’s just like “who the hell is this guy?”
Hehe he’s probably used to getting shot and having armour under the suit. He’s lucky the assassination wasn’t meant for him or the thugs would have just blasted him on joker’s orders. But all he’s like “heheheh bye bye hope you enjoyed the show, fella”
@unknownyoutuber2407 I always noticed that too where I would guess that a piece of his Batman suit was under his clothing since his batsuit is bulletproof and he got shot in the spot where a piece of his batsuit was.
@@afriendofbean Or it was just a clothing graze, and didn't do any actual damage to him.
"Hey Benny, it's your Uncle Bingo! Time to pay the check!" Noir gold.
Vinnie*
Anyone else besides me who would have loved to see Billy Dee Williams as Two-Face?
His version of Two Face made its debut in the comic series/graphic novel Batman ‘89.
Yeah. He did voice him in the LEGO Batman Movie.
Better as Lucius Fox.
Perhaps the Penguin is looking out from under the sewer and saying "what's with all those clowns shooting guns?"
Penguin looks up and sees people getting gunned down in broad daylight : “yeah I’m just gonna wait til next movie”
@@sylvester3018 Well, I know the Penguin was born at this time and the scene of him being born in the beginning of "Batman Returns" was a flashback of when he was born. Also yes, he was going to wait until the next movie because I did wonder that if he was born at this time as to why he never came out from under the sewer and I would guess the reason he didn't come out of the sewer because he wasn't ready to show himself to the world and he was probably still in the middle of making his umbrella weapons and still trying to get a gang of henchmen together which was the circus gang seen on "Batman Returns." Then when his umbrella weapons were finished and he had the circus gang as henchmen, was probably then and there he was ready to come out of the sewer.
Oswald yells "MY BABIES"😂
@@runitback5066 That's right. That was at the end of the movie when Batman got Penguin's penguin babies against him.
"I have given a name to my pain and it is Batman." Then the Joker shoots the tv LOL 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I love how the Joker has these mime minions for just this one scene and we never see them again.
I always assumed the mimes were part of Joker’s goons but just in different costumes and makeup, once this particular task is done, they revert back to the purple jackets and black fedora.
The way Bruce walked as bullets where flying was 🔥🔥🔥
1:14 when, I collect all lego villains from Lego Batman 2.
I want to see a version where the Joker's aim is a little off and the pen just bounces off of Vinnie's tie
Don’t ask for such things. Some writer might see your comment and an entire movie will be made trying to depict what alternate reality will be. Hollywood is truly scraping the bottom of the barrel these days.
@@eufrosniad994Things like this are Already happening with movies today ‼️ something has to change 🤷♂️
Jack Nicholson has said that playing the Joker is (still) one of his favorite roles.
And that is why Jack is the only joker
Jack has sooooooo many great one liners lol they're countless
Savage move by the Joker. Walks up say a few things then bam lol
Jack Nicholson's Joker had the highest body count.
Definitely
Didn’t only one person die in this scene?

@@NicholasVetter-sy8io lots of people get shot, not by the Joker, but by his goons. Even Bruce got shot here.
Obsessed with his make-up!!!! Love this era so much compared to today's
This joker had class.
I still don't know how the second time he blew that party toy, it squeaked higher...but I like it!
2:18 😅🤣🤣
🥊
Love Jack Nicholson’s Joker most
Joker's farewell through the car window reminds me of Fernando del Rey in the subway in The French Connection
Nice one!
Jack had so many great roles but he was BORN to play The Joker... there's a reason he got first billing in this movie over Michael Keaton who played BATMAN, the starring role!
Jack Nicholson asked for top billing in the credits. He asked for it to be included in his contract along with the movie's profits from the marketing.
@@michaelrodriguez1391 well whether he demanded top billing or not is irrelevant, Jack is clearly the star of this movie
It's your uncle Bingo. That's my favorite line.
It's crazy that Nicholson didn't even get a nomination for his role as the Joker.
He got a Golden Globe nomination, but not an Oscar nod.
The Oscars didn't do that back then except for special effects, musical score, and artsy stuff. It's a shame because Nicholson definitely deserved Best Actor that year.
first time a scene of thie movie that is underrated uploaded
Jack Nicholson's Joker is hilariois
Joker: Batman , Batman can somebody tell me what kind of a world we live in where a man dressed up as a bat gets all of my press. This town needs an Enema!
As with most movies the first is often the best, as in this case.
This world needs an enema!
Blows bazooka
A TRUE LIFE COMICAL ALLEGORICAL SCENE.
Joker: The Pen Is Truly Mightier Than The Sword.
but those details, the mime with the sad face shaking his head "no" in the car. hah XD
Since Jack killed Bruce's parents during his youth, why do you think he seemingly never gave any thought to the fact that Bruce was still alive?
What about "this town needs an enema." 😂
The fact that they got Ed Koch former NY mayor to be the mayor of Gotham!!! Awesome
This film is way better than Dark Knight
Are you kidding?
In a classic sense, absolutely. Not in a modern/refined take on the character, absolutely not
They’re far too different to compare. I’ve always just tried to see them both as stand alone films.
@@patrickc3419 which they are, and both can coexist
1989's Batman is absolutely better than Nolan's crappy Dark Knight
this scene is evokes such an eerie and forebording feeling its incredible
Jimmy Fallon: Tell me your favorite movie quote
Benedict Cumberbatch: "This town needs an enema"
Jack Nicholson's Joker hits that perfect blend of comedic and threatening for me. Also, the party favor is the perfect end to that final quip.
amazing movie, but when joker straight kills that guy, the cop in the background just stands there doing nothing for like 6 seconds just staring off into space
I mean Muroni/Falcone? was a gangster, the cop doesn’t give a crap at that point (or maybe also it’s tiny pen at the neck and the big guy is acting all dramatic he probably thought it was just a performance and not a real assassination attempt lol). Just another favor for the messed up city. Not like they’re gonna end the cop to-wait those MIMES HAVE GUNS OH SH* BANNG BANG BANG*
You know. For realism.
I love Keaton's Bruce Wayne/Batman. This was Batman that had issues, and I liked that.
That extended boxing glove🥊 is too good🤡🌺
Thanks movie clips
Jack Nicholson ist der beste Joker. Unerreichbare Schauspiel/Kunst. Vorallem die zwei Schauspieler machen diesen Batman 1989 unvergesslich; Kim Basinger 😍, Jerry Hall😍. Im Übrigen; Habe heute,12.Juli 2024, den besten Batman 1989 auf DVD angeschaut.
Hello Vinnie, it's your uncle Bingo! Time to pay the check!
Shout out to " Bob The Goon", he was a good henchman, why joker had to shoot him?
Because he didn't tell Joker about the Batwing.
This is my favorite movie 🎥 batman I love all actors best actor
2:11 I seen this guy from the Star Wars.
It’s lando from Star Wars the friend of Han Solo
batman 89 movie is so complex
It's an acquired taste for modern audiences, but back then it was the coolest thing 5-year old me has ever seen.
The two second stare at Bob whose just remains silent always cracks me up.
MK Ultra Program!!!
Joker = Dark Alter Ego!!!
When Bob Was standing there, I first thought it was a Picture.
The music makes this scene. Something so creepy about it but it's also so playful.
That's the brilliant Danny Elfman.
The first Batman movie was completely boring until Jack Nicholson as the Joker made his appearance.
2:40 very Joker
😂 uncle bingo
By far my favorite line of that movie
Best Batman movie ever.
My favorite Bruce Wayne by a country mile.
89 batman is so damn good. Captured the noire comic book vibe perfectly. The latest bagman incarnation was good too but this is my favorite live action Batman movie by far.
This town needs an enema!
Kim b very attractive
Greatest Batman film ever! and anything else associated with Batman. The Gotham City atmosphere created was amazingly done with the dingy, gothic streets and comic book feel. Tim Burton, we salute you.
2:23 The Joker: ¡¡BATMAN!! ¡¡BATMAN!! 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
The two Burton-films of Batman are also the two best ones. I cannot choose which one I like best.
I remember how was Bruce Wayne standing cool like that expectedly when the Joker's men was shooting the place
Such a wonderful scene! Great music choice!
As a kid, I always assumed that Bruce’s suit underneath the coat was made out of bulletproof fibres.
They should have made more scenes like this for Nicholson. It is amazing how he captures the youthful energy of TAS Joker. I know this was before TAS but to me Joker will always be this youthful figure portrayed here. Poor writing was not his fault.
If the Joker says it's legitimate, that's good enough for me.
The World’s Greatest Detective sure spends most of that scene being surprised by stuff
It really does say a lot about Batman's reputation when Joker murders someone in broad daylight in front of reporters and has his goons lay down suppressing fire so he casually leaves and he still manages to be quite literally overshadowed by a guy who...technically speaking to said media, wasn't even there.
I love how despite strict studio rules, Tim Burton was able to include his director trademark stripes into the pantomime's costumes 🙌 (yes, I'm aware stripes are very typical anyway)
2:18 ¡¡¡TV PUMMM!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The whole US needs an enema.
Russia and China too.
That is sadly true.
What RUclips needs is an enema.
When i was a kid this scene always scared me.
My town needs an enima as well 1989 joker jack ❤ 💯
Hands down Jack was the best Joker
I love that the hoods are using Thompson's. Proper gangster style.
Watching Bruce's reaction to the mimes before the shooting happens, you can see how he has no sense of humor.
2:10, Becky Narita signs her own death warrant.
Nicholson looks like Klaus Nomi in this role as the Joker.
"The pen is truly mightier than the sword" but the submachine gun trumps both.
I never trusted mimes.
The Pen is Mightier then the sword? **BFG 9000 out** Think again
As a kid I always thought he said, "This town needs an enemy" but said enemy wierd. When I got older, I understood the joke lol
“Can someone tell me, what kind of a world we live in, where Marvel movies get all of the press!??!”
I feel ya, Mr Joker 😂
