Nope I'm still MavericksDrone... He has a YT channel, he is the guy that got the huge FAA fine.. It seemed that the FAA dropped the case but they are right back at the poor fellow again now... I mean he did do some silly things but the fine is ridiculous... I'm just worried he is going to do something really tragic, the poor guy has had a tough time... Anyway that's the gist of it. Philly Drone Life is really testing the FAA with his non compliance to the US FAA regulations. We will see how the FAA handles his case. He's still making his drone videos. 💯✌️🫡
Why would you think he's about to do something harmful to himself. The guy puts up a good act. AND, Piss on the FAA. I dont fly outside the rules but I own nothing worth taking if the Gov went that way either.
I think its a great safety feature. We can all forget sometimes and if it takes off in sports mode obstacle avoidance is off.

Nice one Nobby. Part of my pre-flight checks is to select Normal Mode but interesting for someone to point this out. Didn't notice when it was taken away until you posted a vid .

well, the proof is in the pudding (as you say lol)... I'd say it's definitely back in the Fly App... I don't like how the RCN1 controller doesn't change it on the phone screen like the RC1 and RC2 controllers do... Great video and thanks for testing that out, brother...
Sure is man. Apple crumble springs to mind hahaha. Yeah it’s weird how the rc n1 differs from the RC? Obviously somehow to do with the different controllers although it’s the same fly app? Keep safe brother 🙏

I'm in the US, and noticed this yesterday with my Mini 4. I keep the drone in Cini mode because I'm inexperienced and slow is better. While looking for active track I wondered what "N" mode was top left. Now I know. Thanks for sharing.

Nobby - one thing you didn't notice when you were first flying and the toggle & controller screen both said S mode: the Obstacle Avoidance icon was white, indicating that it was really in N mode. Go back and look at your controller recording again - the controller said S, with the OA active (white), which is clearly incorrect. Then when you toggled N back to S, the OA icon turned red as it should be in this mode. This is therefore another way to tell for sure which mode you are in - OA white cannot be S mode. Personally, I don't like this "Safety" feature. I would prefer that the controller screen and the flight mode dictated by the toggle position be consistent and correct at all times, even if it means taking off (inadvertently) in C or S mode. Noticed this the other day. I suppose it's not a big deal just check your in the mode you need once take off is complete. Most of my filming is done in Cine mode so I just toggle back when in the air.

I recently bought the Mini 3, everytime i take off it is in normal mode, regardless of where the switch is, my 1st ever flight with the mini 3 i had the switch set to cine mode, i thought wow this is fast lol, then after playing around and seeing a video online i realised this is DJI making it a safety feature, a little annoying at first because i didn't know why it was fast when it should have been slow, my Mini 2 never had this issue.
It was always like this before they changed it. I’m pleased it’s back especially for beginners being able to fly off in sports mode and not realising 👍

Cool video. Years ago I realized that the DJI controllers are really lagging as in features. Why do they drag us along allowing new features only by releasing a new drone. I still fly the mini 2. No reason to upgrade. With 3rd party apps such as Maven, Maven lite, and Litchi...I stopped using dji fly long ago. So much potential in the drone yet the fly apps really limit what you can do.
The mini 2 is a fantastic drone. Wouldn’t part with mine. I guess they like to add features as mentioned and yes some third party apps are good 👍
I've got the Mini3 Pro and Air 3 that feature has always been that way never had it any other mode right from getting the drones
It was like it from the beginning but they changed it a short while ago. Not many noticed the change but I did cover it in an earlier video 👍 thanks 🙏
Rule One when you have control of anything non-human. Never assume - CHECK. Be it the car; an aircraft; ANY piece of 'machinery' (a hydraulic press or a hand drill) AND a UAV...
CHECK.

Why is it a safety feature? I just got a Mini 4 Pro and had my first flight yesterday. I had it in Cine Mode because I wanted to get some experience with it first. I did notice the N at the top of the screen but didn’t know what that was and forgot to look it up afterwards. I did think it was a little fast. I just came across your video and now realise what it was.
Basically there to stop you taking off in sports mode and causing damage to you or someone else. Glad you found it useful 👍
@@nobby-green I can understand that with Sports mode but with Cine mode it has the opposite result, I was travelling faster than I was expecting to be. Well last least I know about it now so can be aware. Thanks.
Cine or Sports mode, at power up, take off, the Mavic 3 Pro flies in normal mode..
Practising returning the selector to Normal mode, after landing, is likely the best for safety.
DJI looks like changing their mind according to the wind, sad to say.
This is true. However we are human and forget now and again. I always switch back to centre after changing 👍
@@nobby-green Rellay true, we are human and forget. I usually say it takes almost nothing to make us forget anything....
I suggest DJI to stick with Normal Mode after take off...

Thanks. It’s predominantly metric nowadays although I was taught in imperial 😉 I much prefer mph on the speed settings 👍
@@nobby-green that’s fair enough, seems weird though because you drive in miles and figure out how many miles to the gallon your car does, then you set your drone in metric when there’s no need to🙂

I haven't flown my drone since the last firmware update but if I recall correctly, when turning it on and a connection is made my rc2 tells me it recommends normal mode. It happened a few times. I can't remember exactly what it said because my brain is old. Do you remember seeing that notice? Thanks for the video.

Plan to travel to the UK and Ireland this year. Want to bring my DJI 4 Pro to film our travels. From my research it would appear that I will need to register as a flier but not need to register the drone for the UK but I am struggling to find rules for the EU. Any help would be appreciated.

For Sports Mode you must sit in a sport scar with your sporty arse.

@@nobby-green I personally consider it a dangerous option. You have a mechanical switch on the controller, that should be the master. The software should take it's cue from that switch. If you are used to always flying in coach mode (coine) as most of the flyers I know do, and I do, then suddenly having it zipping along is a danger.
@@siukcnc that’s exactly what it does but not from take off. It’s designed so that you cannot take off in sports mode by accident ie having the switch left in sports mode. Once you have taken off the select switch will then operate as desired. It just defaults to normal to take off irrespective of where the switch is. Hope that makes sense.
@@nobby-greenI'd agree with not wanting to have sport selected and it stopping that. Not sure I'll ever test that setting. If that's all it does then it makes more sense.
I did though watch another channel demo it a few days ago, they had it set to 'cine' on the switch and yet it said normal on the screen. He changed the subject, so I don't know if it corrected soon after take off.
