Peel: I’m here to protect the orange by making myself bitter to discourage eating it.
Bakers: n o
The reason there is fruit to begin with is for animals to eat it
Actually many fruits are juicy and sweet is because they want t be eaten. That how the tree distribute themselves, repopulate and expand themselves.
@@mysteriousbluehat2035 yes the animal shits the seed out
peppers: *”NOOOO YOU CAN’T IGNORE MY DEFENSE MECHANISM, LET ALONE ENJOY IT!”*
us: “haha spice go fwooooosh”
Peels not that bad.
In the winter when it's too cold to open a window for fresh air, I use my citrus peels to freshen the air by simmering them in water with 1 cinnamon stick and 2 whole cloves. It smells wonderful! Really helps to freshen the stale, dry air.
cloves of garlic? O.o
Aromatic
@@zerotheliger no not cloves of garlic. Lol clove Google it you'll be able to see what it looks like it's a spice
Ok but for how long we can preserve them without appearing any fungus on it nd how these can be kept out side the refrigerator .plz a quick response is needed
That's a really cool sustainable way!! Thanks for the awesome idea
I have a lemon tree in my backyard and made candied lemon peels with this recipe. They were a great energy booster during a road trip! 😁
Lemon turns out the best!
Awwww I had a beautiful big lemon tree in my old house ,and it gave me THE BEST LEMON EVER . Miss it so much 😢😪😪😢😢
Am in a Cold Climate,I cannot even get my lemon tree to grow,I put it outside in the Summer and when I brought it back inside for winter, all the leaves fell off,
@@nermeenhamada6447 I feel your pain, the one i had before, i for whatever reason decided to feed them miracle grow in the dead of winter, I ended losing both, i feel like crying at the time
Lol duh its candy
wow my favourite candy. now i can make it my own. thanks!
+Lim Niccola they are so good!
Who’s favorite candy is this lol 🤦🏻♂️
This has been the most simple recipe for candied peel I have seen. So simple and easy. Thanks so much!
If u don't wanna make this just for a small quantity of citrus , u can put the peeling of every oranges or else in the fridge and they will stay fresh for a long time . Well , i tested it with orange peels and they stayed fresh for more than a month . It's nice too when u need orange zests for a recipe coz u don't have to use one just for that .
love her idea of dipping in chocolate! Great flavor combination
Sarah you have a lovely way to teach us the sweet side of live. You are a beautiful teacher lady.
Perfect! That is my mom's favourite snack so I definately gonna make it!
Thank you for the recipe . I made a batch , diced into tiny pieces and stored in freezer or fridge. Toss some bits into salad made from shredded radish( and shredded cucumber and shredded carrot), sesame oil, lime juice , bit of stevia (or sugar or honey) and tiny pinch of cinnamon ( five spice) powder. ReFreshing, healthy and delicious.
I make these every Christmas.............❤️💜💚💙
I cannot believe I’ve been throwing out citrus peels all this time when I could have had candy from them!
Use a vegetable peeler to avoid the bitter white part of the orange or other citrus. And it goes faster that way. You can boil the peel once in water to take some of the bitterness away but if you avoid the white bitter part of the peel to start with, you can skip the blanching and put the peel directly into your syrup. You can make your syrup with water and sugar or with fresh orange juice and sugar. I add a vanilla bean too for extra flavor. Dry your peel for an hour or overnight and roll them in sugar or dip them in dark chocolate.
🫡
loved to eat these when i was little. can't wait to make these. thanks!
It reminds me of candied fruit eaten in Asia, usually candied ginger or dried plum. I'd try adding a bit of salt to your sugar and some acid like lemon juice or citric acid powder to your water for some tartness if you want it to be more like a snack food than a sweet. :)
It's so strange that 99% off video nobody make Tangerine peel candy, actually the Tangerine peel the aroma way better than the orange peel, I will make it and will find out the two flavor.
thanks for the idea!
Orange peels are better than tangerine peels. Tangerine peels have a very bitter taste to it
Tangerine peels didnt work for me 😓they were nasty
@@imacup8630 damn cup sorry lol 😂😂😂
Citrus salad,Italian way: cut a lemon to slices with the white pulp still attached, taking off only the slim peel. We cut half an orange the same way and put it in there and then: salt, vinegar and olive oil. The lemon has to be ripe and the peel has to be really thick to make the taste delicious. I swear I didn't want to try it at first but it's so good!!
Right on time , thank you I really wanted to learn this!
+heghineh happy to help!
Is this Martha Stewart and Woody Allen's love child?
*Leeloo cooking candied orange is one of my favorite cooking videos* (no offense just a joke ur really a great cook, nana)
Thank you so much for your helpful video! I always wondered and wanted to know how. Happy cooking and Bendeciones
I've been doing it wrong! I used to scrape off as much of the pith as I could and simmered it directly in the simple syrup. This recipe should work much better. Then a half dip in semi- sweet chocolate.. yum!
Thanks from Texas.💚
Medicine is in the pith
Made it yesterday.....soooo good!!! Easy to follow directions.
Toni Johnson does it go crunchy when it dries? how long does it take to dry?
No. The sugar is crunchy, but the peels themselves are soft and chewy. If your area is not humid a couple of hours or so. I'm in the South so I let them dry over night. Really didn't need to, but always over cautious first time.
Hello miss... Tq for sharing this recipe... I will try it at home.... Its was awesome... 👍👌😉
I unintentionally made caramel
Finally I make tangerine peel and they more flavor than orange peel, just cook tangerines peel for a couple minutes. I find a faster better way to cook orange peels just want to share. After Cook three large orange peel for 7 minutes drain the water out (I save the liquid and drink later) I then add 1 lime and 5 tbsp full of sugar mix it all up or you can hold pot handle and torsh put in low heat and torsh few time when you see orange peels coating and they are done and you can mixed with sugar.
Mmmmm! I have been 'thinking' of making some....I love citrus!! Thank you for making it look easy & not as time consuming as I thought. :)
+Prisilla Cope I do my best to help relieve cooking anxieties!
Sarah Carey You ARE the best! Thanks again! Like my Mila said...you're the best cooker!! :)
Awesome peel recipe! Just made some yesterday with fresh harvested oranges. Great video😀👍
By boiling the orange peels to remove the bitterness, aren't you also removing flavor from the peels because the essential oils will be transferred from the peel to the water, which gets discarded. This process will produce candied peels which will lack in flavor.
Who in the world would give this video a thumbs down?
+HangOn2seconds some people are just haters.
Citrusphobes
Sad, pathetic lost souls who have never known the luxury of candied citrus peels. That.. And diabetics, probably.
An asshole.

Another good idea is to put a couple drops of orange blossom water into the syrup mixture, then simmer the citrus peels
Candied citrus is sooooo very good.
I love your hair!
Oh god! I have to try this!
Always wondered how to do this, many thanks.
Thankyouuuuuu, I love those. Always wanted to make some
Best part about this treat, no titanium dioxide. 😊
I’m making them now with clementines and I added a dash of vanilla to make it like creamsicle
Did it taste good? I've never tried candied orange peels, I'd assume it's kind of bitter?
Instrument Hoarder
Nope! I cooked them about 5 extra minutes in my sugar syrup and drizzled chocolate on top. The pith is the most bitter so to combat that use a potato peeler with light pressure rather than a knife. I jarred them and the whole family loved them, plus they are packed with Vitamin C.
@@macaroniandplease8894 Wow thank you!
We have so much citrus still on the trees! This will help out in using it up!
THhnk you for this recipe!
I make this stuff with lime, lemon, orange, clementine, and grapefruit peel.
1) Peel the skin by hand, NOT with a knife. Since the skin will separate from the fruit automatically you don't have to separate the fruit that you accidentally cut along with the peel because you didn't cut the peel at all.
2) The slices shouldn't be any thicker than a pen or pencil.
3) When you are ready to toss the peel in the sugar, toss the sugar into an old plastic peanut butter jar and toss the peel in with it. Tighten the lid over the jar and tumble the jar on a HORIZONTAL plane (not a vertical one) for about one minute or so letting the sugar tumble onto the peel in every direction.
A top feeding clothes washer tumbles on a vertical plane. A front loading washer and dryer tumble on a horizontal plane. You want horizontal not vertical.
4) Dump the entire mixture onto a serving plate and just take the peel that is ready to lift easily.
I have to disagree with your No.1. Paring the skin is actually very easy to do without taking a lot or any fruit with it: I've just done it! And as these are two very juicy Tangelos, I've avoided a sloppy mess. Now I can go in and cut the fruit up nicely
oof.. no wonder why it didn't worked :(( mine was still bitter :((
Great. Now I can make these. Tysm. I can't amagin ppl giving u a thumbs down. Shame on them.
Just made oleo saccharum.
Now on to step 2.
Your recipes are always amazing!
My great-aunt used to make these!
I would really like to hear about the wax cover on the peel and how to remove it first. That is if there is a safe way to do it. Commercial citrus is covered with wax with additives like anti fungal stuff and such and you really don’t want to eat that. Personally I make candied citrus peal from organic fruit. I would just like to hear this matter addressed to keep it real.
Before peeling, soak the citrus fruit in baking soda water for about 5-10 mins then rinse.
The pith candies as well by the way. Imo it actually candies better
Awesome, never thought about making my own at home :)
definetly giving this a try orange is my favorite fruit :)
I'm gonna do this!
Did you do it?
@@Salooty69 yes I did!
You can make lollipops with pieces of fruit inside as well once you do this step. It time to make more things like this
Thank you i will try
Thanx
excelente postre. Me encantó
Love it! Will try that for sure 👍🏼
How does one store them please?
Didn't know you could eat this, gotta try it now😂
Keep up the good work
Thanks, will do!
Great idea. Thanks very much. Separately, I'm going to melt dark and milk chocolate and toss half in each. Wonder how long they will last?😋
+Colin Hirons depends on if you temper the chocolate if you do, they will last a while.
not that many ingredients to it, i might try this recipe.
For how long can I store these candies ? Also will these decrease the shelf life of homemade chocolates?
yes.
any tips to reduce bitterness in orange peel?
What is the best way to store the finished peel?
+Joan Barbier I would store it in an airtight plastic container
@@luticia I like to grind it,mix it with sugar and freeze it. It's perfect for cakes and cooking
Wow
this looks WELL nice. Dead easy as well. definitely gonna make this. you never said how long it takes to dry though?
Jonny Chaos 2:20
she actually said an hour
I don't really make citrus salad. Could I freeze peel until I have enough to do this?
Would it be easier just to put a large amount of the cooked peel into a plastic bag with the sugar and shake it thoroughly?
You cant fool me Adam Ragusea
so i really want to try this recipe but all the other recipes i found said to boil and drain the peel at least three times over a long period of time to remove the biterness, is that really not necessary for this recipe?
I tried this recipe yesterday. I saw the other's instructions too and wondered. So I boiled it once for 10mins, then threw out that water and boiled it once more in fresh water for 5mins. Then I simmered it in the sugar/water mixture for 10mins. I drained it for 30mins, then sugared it. Tasted lovely. An added benefit was that the sugar/water mixture leftover has a delightful citrus flavour that I will now add to my cocktails and perhaps my baking too. Enjoy.
I'm so trying this! XD
Are they supposed to ve hard and dry? Or sticky and still a bit wet or gummy?
i love this..(: thanks for the tutorial new sub here(:
Can I do that without rolling in sugar?
Without the sugar, it wouldn't be "candied".
Please do an iced tea recipe (matcha)
Just peel the fruit like you would an orange. I cute my lemons into quarters and then peel them. Cut them thin with scissors and start cookin.
That looks good
Thanks!
Is it rolled in powdered sugar or regular sugar?
How long does it last at room temperature or in the fridge?
You should scrub the peel before you cut the fruit with baking powder to clean off any chemical residue and yukkies.
Why don’t you use a vegetable peeler to get only the peel.
potato peeler?
+Terrence Nicholson yes
Can i keep this in the fridge? If so, for how long?
+superdhebz I would actually store them at room temperature in an airtight container, probably a week or more.
I tried it and it tastes weird any advice
What if i don't have a wire rack? What can i use?
So do I simmer for 20 minutes with the syrup or 10? That was not clear
Candied citrus peal "It's a good Thing " M.S 1990
Can I skip the last part where you put it in the sugar? Thank you
Can you do that with a lemon peel. Please please reply. It will mean the world to me
If you listen to what she says in the video you will have your answer.
Paulina J yes you can
An hour and a half to make a handful of candy. Dang. You’d need a ton of pans and racks if if you want to make more at one time
No closed captioning
Some
Say to simmer 45 minutes. What's the difference?
Idk why mine are taking longer to make
I let them dry overnight and they're still wet
i was bored and i searched this up
Hi,
thanks for the recipe.
how long can we store this in plastic jar before it get spoiled?
is there any way to preserve this for longer duration in case we retail it to others?
Thanks
This recipe didn't really work for me at all. the oranges didn't turn out as well as the grape fruit and the lemons were in between and that was with 25 mins of boiling at the start and then about 30 mins of simmering in the sugar "syrup" they were still a little too hard. Then again I haven't tried them yet but just from feeling them, might update this after I try them. I appreciate the effort you put into this tho and I know it does work for some people, I'm just not in that category.
You might be in the same category as I am, meaning I have to study many recipes to figure out the method that suits me best. I have a trusted recipe that requires one to boil the peel until it is soft enough to be easily pierced with a match. That might not work if the peel was very dried out from the start. If the peel is very moist, drain well & cook the syrup to the "softball" stage (114,5° C) before adding the strips of peel.
I forgot to boil it first, it's so bitter =(
I like your hair
my mom used to cook it for us 😢💔
I wish i could taste it 😊 haven't tried it before
