Definitely great trucks! I am amazed at how well this truck runs. Aside from replacing the original wires, plugs, rotor button and distributor cap this year, that's all I've had to do. I manage to get about 17-18 MPG with it still. Only 68k on it, currently.
I drive mine everyday...pulling a trailer 5 days a week, just spent 4 dollars on spray paint from family dollar for my stock rims and wahlah...a 'new' truck...lol...take care...
As British Top Gear once said. "You'll need a calander not a stop watch". On the US Special roadtrip where Richard Hammond actually drives a 91 Dodge Ram 150 short box with a 6cyl.
That's not too bad. 20 years ago I had 1981 Diplomat with the 225. I was in college and had time and with my father we put a 4 barrel on it along with better exhaust. Got the 0-60 down to around 9
Inline 6 from back then you can always coax a bit of a faster acceleration time with a manual. The torque converter was robbing a lot of what limited power you had.
I used the timer on the video and got 15 seconds. Not bad! -b If your speedo's off, it could be you're using the wrong size tires. Should be P235/75R15, or anything that is roughly 29 inches tall.
I've been thinking about pulling a Super Six off of a Slant Six Volare, Duster etc to improve some of the low end. It does great on the highway, but really lacks at low speeds, due to very high gears. Still has stock 3.23 ratio.
Haha. Days! I think its quicker tyan the d150 with a 318 v8 I had. Gutless thing. But it did what I asked, pulled and hauled too much, punished me with gas use
Oh yeah, I know. I was just joking in the video, lol. I timed it and it's around 15 seconds from 0-60 which is about average, considering it's only 95 hp. When the speedometer hits 50 it's actually right at about 60.
The later model slant6 engines actually have less than the older ones.A 1960 model valiant had 101 horsepower. The one that was in my 67 dodge truck was rated at 127 hp .The thing about the slant is they are so strongly made you can turbo charge them or just add a 2 barrel carb to perk one up!!
I know! I wish this one had the super six 2 barrel carb and manifold. Right now it has that tiny 1 barrel Holley 1945 carb and it chokes this engine out, lol. No wonder it lacks a bit of power.
I definitely love these slants though! This truck was handed off to me a little while back and I've been getting it back up to par. Oil, spark plugs, wires, trans fluid, things like that. Thinking about doing that super six 2 barrel upgrade at some point.
Friend of mine just got an '87 with the same motor. I got to drive it and, while it looks rough, it runs beautifully.
I've lived a few slant six lives. They never quit. Used to be hard to start when it's cold out. I'd buy one today if they still made them.
That runs just fine, and is all you need as long as you can drive.
...so this is what my truck should sound like...lol...love it anyway, it has never let me down...85 slant six, great truck...

Leaning tower of power good stuff

I counted about 19 seconds.

Yeah and to top it off: An absurdly tall 1st gear ratio of 2.54:1 and a 3.23 rear gear.
You’ll never get a speeding ticket in that thing
Not a thriller but those slanted 6s last forever.
Those are a nice truck!

It's not that bad. The way folks talk about it, I figured it would take 10 minutes with the whole lane of traffic honking at you behind.
Put a 4bbl on it and a heavier cam, it will be a different animal.

That 19 second 0-60 will to a 17 seconds lol.
Not too bad.

Hi adam that wasn't bad your moving probably 4000lbs of truck.

3.55 rear?
I think it's the 3.23.
0-55 not 0-60 because the speedometer never made it to 60!!
I wonder if a slant six can take a turbo intercooler or a turbo charger!!
Read at the beginning. The speedometer is off by 10. I actually did 0-65.
Did you pay any attention to the beginning of the video? He tells us right up front the speedometer is 10 mph slow.
Who cares. I care about how many years. It lasts
sad..
it's definitely not a Corvette, but it's a damn fine running truck and I love it to death.
