The Camping Episode, Dying For Pie, and even Season 1's Bubblestand all have incredible references here, showing how far SpongeBob as a series has come.

Never would I have expected to see concept art from the golden age of SpongeBob in a modern episode, or those various shots of previous episodes in that one scene. It's always fun to see old stuff return, but SpongeBob rarely, if ever, directly references it.

Friendiversary has to be the most ambitious SpongeBob episode of all. So many references to the show's golden era appeared, and it reflects how far it came.

This really says a lot about how SpongeBob, even after 24 years since the first original airing on Nickelodeon, yet still goes really strong, just proves how it’s truly one of the strongest and most memorable 1999 classics of all time.

What I liked about this is that the references were quick and contributes to the story. Squidward tries to make SpongeBob remember the things that happened earlier, and when that doesn't work, he went as far as the Seasons 1-3 episodes. It's actually connected rather than just forced in.

Well hear me out, would you rather see quick fast paced episodes with humor that’s just sort of dumb, or slow paced ones that have actual storytelling and good humor along with good moments within the show to have character development? Of course you’d pick the second option right?
I do remember seeing this episode when it premiered on Nick, and I really liked it. From the episode's premise to all the nostalgia, it might be one of the best modern SpongeBob episodes (or at least for the season).

Episodes like Pickles and No Weenies allowed are still remembered after 20 years because they were... well, funny and creative. Not because they were referencing or parodying episodes that came before

The newer seasons really deserve a chance
I honestly love how some different Shows make Blast-From-The-Past Callback episdoes. Just shows how they havent forgotten about their past and they truly love the show.

Unlike most people. I view SpongeBob as well. SpongeBob. I don't define it as "classic" or "modern". I enjoyed SpongeBob when the first episode came out. And I've enjoyed it to this day. Both old and new episodes
It’s almost like Stephen Hillenburg is back, this episode is great.
I remembered watching this episode. The way I see the classic moments represented here would be like if I wanted to bring back the original elements of Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry cartoons but putting my own spin on the franchises.
Personally I thought it was very interesting of Paramount Studios to bring back the original moments of the series from seasons 1-3.

I love that the episode called back to classic moments and memories. What makes the series so great for this long is the nostalgia. The fact that the episode called back to classic SpongeBob moments is so cool.
This episode is genuinely very clever! The fact that Spongebob on occasion produces great episodes while programmes like Family Guy, which debuted the same year as Spongebob, struggle to come up with a single funny line, surprises me.

Finally this episode gets the love it needs! Every time I bring this episode up to someone who has seen it, they always complain about the Squidward torture or how the references were forced. While those are valid points, I just needed someone to say that this episode is actually a special one and is really cool.
This is probably the 3rd or 4th best episode since the first movie imo.
That's honestly kinda beautiful and a great way to celebrate their entire relationship especially seeing some of the best episodes getting referenced.

I watched this episode, and yeah, it was pretty fun! 'twas surreal to see so many classic moments redone in the modern era of SpongeBob, and overall the dynamic between SpongeBob and Squidward was shown off wonderfully. Really goes to show that the SpongeBob crew of today really care about the legendary IP of which they're blessed to be helping with.
I saw the episode once and nickelodeon just keep giving surprising up some great popular episodes from every SpongeBob nostalgia. Including one fate of Red Mist SpongeBob

Funny I noticed that newer episodes just keep on referencing old episodes because apparently these new writers were huge fans that just goes to show how old this show is also i saw in one episode while SpongeBob was cleaning windows he was singing the fun song out of nowhere
Modern SpongeBob is underrated, he is very hate by fans but there a ton things to love about him. The recreation classic things and bright back classic characters. It had some interesting stories. I still think he is still funny, i was super okay with exagerrated expressions. I still gave modern SpongeBob chance. Always

Spongebob's lack of continuity has always bugged me. However, this episode proves that the current writers for the show seem to be making an attempt to add a little more continuity into the show.
Why does a children's comedy show need continuity in the first place?

I loved Friendiversary!! I've been watching SpongeBob since 2003, so it brought back some really wonderful memories - especially when I saw the old episodes flash in SpongeBob's eyes!! Now to be fair, I still watch the old episodes, so all of the episodes are still fresh, but it was still a great sight to see! To anybody that thinks SpongeBob isn't good anymore really need to watch it again and give it a chance. Sure, Season 13 started off pretty rough, but I assure you, each new episode gets better and better!
The people who work on the show now clearly grew up watching the show in the late 90s and early 2000s.

When I saw this episode for (Friendiversary) it blew my mind that they recreated some iconic scenes from the classic SpongeBob episodes in the early days of SpongeBob good times, going miss the old SpongeBob days that aired on Nickelodeon.
How is this shows modern art style over 20 years more advanced than its old one yet the old one is infinitely more lively and colorful

I grew up with SpongeBob, and I’m certainly not one of those “new SpongeBob sucks” people. Of course, seasons 1-4 cannot be beat (I even love some of 5 and 6) but I still enjoy new episodes from time to time. As long as it makes me laugh, I’ll watch it
The modern seasons are better than season 4 imo (I like season 4 tho, but it's just very mixed).

You what classic scene i would have love to seen in this episode. Squidward takes SpongeBob to the house of that red fish from pizza delivery, except this time, the fish's wife opens the door and slams the old pizza in Squidward's fish for revenge of doing the same thing to her husband. That would be so beyond tables have turned hilarious if that happened!
The only reason SpongeBob is dieing is because of the death of new episodes of shows if they’re just going direct to TV. They don’t gain as much traction because it’s harder to find them and people aren’t as interested in watching the new episodes. Also, most of the episodes just are going to Paramount+, which even if you have it, you don’t use it 😔

I was never bothered by references being milked. In fact, Mario and Luigi paper jam, a lot of people hated how unoriginal the characters were and I personally love how many references it had. I don't see what's wrong with Spongebob having references.
I just wish Squidward would treat SpongeBob like he's somebody instead of a nobody. I still can't 4get how he made fun of him 4 loving his Grandma. I guess SpongeBob 4got that Squidward teased him, but I sure won't.
I think the episode did a good job of referencing to the original episodes from season 1 2 & 3. Imagine a new SpongeBob episode remake the original episodes Or a another SpongeBob series but with the old episodes in a modern style.

i've been saying for years, SpongeBob doesn't need new episodes, it just needs to repolish the older episodes and call it a day... there are more than enough SpongeBob episodes, almost an entire childhood worth of content, so they could easily start relying on what they already have rather than adding more to the pile of new episodes
Honestly, i think Nick should do a thing where people vote for 5 classic episodes to be remade in the modern style. They could call it: "Spongebob Rehydrated" or something like that.
