Well, they added a mana tank item, and many ppl are using him now
Because he is very team reliant, his skills are slow, requires a lot of team communication to do anything meaningful and very few people can handle the shear magnitude of fabulous with Taric on the screen.
Nobody wants to play team reliant champion unless your jungler is Master Yi

Kind of like Braum in a way. A catalyst. Makes a good team great, but cant really help a bad team or a team that doesn’t play with him (or even against him like missing his stuns or leaving his ult range)

Old Taric was probably the most fun and hilarious champion because no one expects his damage output even as a support
Dude , even with last season. I used to go sheen first buy. At that point you can completely fuck up the bot lane since they dont expect the spell spam with sheen procs dmg.
From there finished frozen gauntlet then spirit visage into zekes.
Its expensive , but hec you can solo any carry and were pretty unkillable:D
One of my earliest league memories was 1v1ing a yasuo as old taric support and seeing his confusion in all chat.
Dude I had over 200k mastery on old Taric before he got his rework and hate it so much. I just want my frontline aura tank back. Now he looks like a tank but play like a boring enchanter.

Yeah, i think there should be a tank mythic item that gives mana, at least 400 with the passive to get 100-200 mana per item.
No chalice either. OOM 24/7.
I used to go for Frozen heart instead, but the item feels really weak now. Taric was a niche pick last season, as he was only playable into dive comps and hard engage lanes: nautilus support and/or Samira/Tristana adc.
Now with no good mana+tank hybrid items, you effectively have no sustain in poke lanes where you might as well let your adc sololane.
Ive personally stopped playing Taric altogether, where last season I would often pick him support and occassionally jungle if I was duo with my midlaner, since he has insane synergy with melee carries.
Because riot has nerfed him to the ground because of funneling...

Funneling and "Double Mage Botlane" came at around the same time, but to Riot no adc bot in most games is perfectly okay, but support taric in jungle is not okay.
So they nerfed the fuxk out of funneling, but left mage bots untouched for ages.
Rightous glory was the perfect item for Taric in season 10. Giving Mana, armor, and move speed softened two major weaknesses and gave him armor, which he scales off. Not compensating Taric in season 11 for the item being removed was very surprising.
To me, it was unsurprising. He's one of the types of champions riot is likely to forget about or intentionally push into irrelevance (like Kalista). All cause his ult is far too strong.

I play Taric often actually, but not as support. Taric jungle where you basically play him as weird Udyr is tons of fun. In the jungle your mana problems aren’t as bad as well too.

Taric is actually my favorite rework as they made his whole kit interact nice with each other and he is generally a great pick if you duoQ with your adc

The mana issue is major for a ton of champs, outside of mythics, there are only 3, yes 3, items that actually give mana. The 2 tear items, and frozen heart.
In toplane Corrupting Potion has become a requirement for any mana reliant tank. Riot should put mana back on Frostfire Gauntlet or create a new tank item built with Tear of the Goddess.
I always loved taric as a Support since Season 3 and even today, i love his kit as it is tbh, i just think about 1 real change it could have, either more items for mana and sturdiness so his build can let him be more consistent with his strong points, or add a small speed boost after casting his shield, like ahri and her w, being able to chase/reposition more easily without a dash, could be reaaaally good for that fabulous man.
Also, the ult could has less cast time, based on taric and his linked team mate missing heal, that could really pay off for skilled players timing it on the right moment c:
Man, I really loved Taric… Them taking away Iceborn Gauntlet really crippled him. His synergy with that item alone made him
so great.
But since the major item overhaul, he’s been doing very badly.
As a support main, I've never took time to learn Taric because he's never been oppressive when on the other team. I never understood why, even when facing someone who clearly knows how to play him. I really like your series. It helps to have this kind of insight without having to spend dozens of hours figuring out the "why".
He was my main years ago, then i quit and picked the game up again in january this year... And when i tried him again, I went something like 1/8. I looked up what they changed and just... haven’t played him since :( I really loved him before

Taric is one of the reasons I am a support main. I found him when I Started in season 3 and loved how simple he was. He and Braum were my go to supports for the longest time.
Taric and Braum are literally my only level 7 champs XD
Abyssal mask with catalyst is another item that's not available anymore, which used to be my first item choice to get through lane.

As a Taric main , he has an amazing peel potential and enjoy playing him. Out of all the supports I play he is the only one I have with a 61% win rate however ,the mana costs are too much , so you are always on edge and his ult takes so much to a point you buy locket for the sole purpose to buy time before it activates

I started playing League during the 10 year anniversary event and Taric's loading screen splash art was the reason why I started main him. He's so much fun and nothing can ever compare to the terror or happiness when my ulti can decide a game

Kindred bot main, whenever I get a radical support I get really excited bc its not only our ultimates that have synergy. His stun and kindred q can really trip up opponents and with how aggressive kindred bot is any heals are great. It's always a gamble on whether the taric knows what they're doing and if we synergise well which makes sense bc it requires alot of communication to work perfectly
Before season 11 took away all the mana items it was still possible to run him top or jungle and beat people to death with his passive autos and iceborn gauntlet, but now there's no mana in the toplane item picks aside from frozen heart, it's really not the same.
Ideas;
Cosmic Radiance [R] can be recasted to activate invulnerability earlier, but at the cost of decreased duration.
Every time ally with Bastion damages an enemy champion, Taric receives mana equal to allies bonus armor from Bastion.
Or it could be only autoattacks. Or Bravado (passive) buffs allies autoattacks too, with bonus damage and restoring mana to Taric
It's good that you review champions based on how they're or would be performing in SoloQ, since most of the players/viewers are curious of how it performs in SoloQ, but I'm kinda in need to gather information on champions based on the team performance(5v5s, for tournaments or clash). Imo there is a big difference between champion performances and playstyles when it comes to SoloQ and 5v5 gameplay.
I always play him in Aram. I think he is really fun and actually really good once you know what you're doing.

You cant compare aram to summoners rift for tarick gold isn't an issue so you can build how you want your ult covers 90% of the lane so youll always a get a decent one atop of it being more obvious when a team fights gona happen
ARAM's totally different from SR, but I think he is one of the most fun champs to play on that map. No one really notices your stuns coming, and your ult is insanely powerful.
Only thing is some people playing on your team may have no idea what's going on when you use your abilities and not take advantage of your ult.
I would still suggest getting a tear after your first core item as the value in midgame is pretty insane
I remember playing a bunch of Taric when I first started out. I thought he was cool, because I loved that tanky healer aesthetic, and didn't have the experience necessary to realize just how badly I was getting stuffed by my weakness to range. Eventually, I found out when I tried other supports and stopped playing him, but I always kept him in my pocket just in case.
Then one day a miracle happened: My co-laner picked Nilah. I knew from experience trying her myself that she benefited massively from enchanters who could heal and shield, and Taric could not only do both, but also assist her when she dashed in with Dazzle. I gleefully rubbed my hands together and locked in Taric. Today, two champions worthy of legend would take the game by storm.
Two champions did indeed take the game by storm. The enemy laners. I don't even remember what they were playing. The Nilah must have been new to the champion, and used to playing safe, because not ONCE did she go in on the enemy. I was stuck trying to heal her with a slow cooldown heal that I couldn't safely reset due to being poked off the wave. I spent half the game wishing I'd picked Soraka and the other half trying to mentally project to Nilah to please god just go in so we can get something accomplished.
From that day forward, I never play support if the ADC is going to be the random. I can't handle it.
I've been looking forward to this one! I love Taric's new kit and I do hope that some people give him a chance to see how fun he is in the bot lane
Paladin is my favorite class in MMORPGs and what I love playing, I really wish they would make more Paladin-ish champs
i would change his Q. Make it a point and click healing that is increased based on taric's proximity to allies (instead of the charges stored, similar to world of warcraft paladin's mastery). Have his passive reduce cooldown by half for each auto (2 auto=full cooldown reset). With the limitation of requiring auto on enemies while making it stronger when nearby allies, you can lower the mana cost, since there are already conditions.
If you are fighting with an ally bruiser, you can deal damage while healing him at max power.
if you are peeling for your adc, you heal the adc extra when he position wrong (close to the enemy mele), or less if he is doing a good job kiting
I love taric and really like how he feels like a dnd paladin. I really think his kit is great and incredibly satisfying. If anything he should get a mana cost reduction but other than that I like where he is.
Well... He needs a smite to be an actual paladin. He feels more like a cleric with a very, VERY weak heal
@@1YCARADOFACAO with a tear you can easily heal enough to change the flow of battle while dishing out tons of dmg trough q resets. i like him how he is and dont want him to be turned into an s11 braindead champ that people play for elo.
Dont forget that he also got buffed and then heavely nerfed in a relatively short time after he was released. After that, people started to play him as an actual solo laner with decent succes, I still remember the time you could actually carry games with him as a full tank. Then he got that mini rework on his kit making it the funnel champ that he is today. As always Rito on all of its 200 years of game design and its moto "We encourage diverse gameplay for champions... unless its not the way we want it to be."
AKA "Supports should not be solo laners but mid lane burst mages are A-OK as supports."
I actually really enjoyed playing old Taric back in the days were i still used to play mainly support. Like holy shit with his Auras his teamfighting was insane, even if it perhaps never quite looked like Taric did much. I guess another reason why a rework was kinda necessary.
Getting in the middle of teamfight, ulting too buff your team and shredding the enemy Resistance with your w while it gave resistance to survive the first burst of the enemy first was something my teamates probably never really took note of but as the taric player you could easily tell the impact once you see a fight without you in it.
And this is why i personally think Taric can be a great jungler. Since you can actually get a few items done to actually properly help your team.
He feels like a slower less useful yuumi until u use his ult at the right time because they're both heavily reliant on being with someone else
My favorite support. Pairs pretty well with hyper carries and teams that excel in extended fights.
Most of tarics issues can be circumvented by playing him jungle. His clear with bravado is almost as fast as as meta farming junglers, natural mana regeneration in jungle really helps early, and ganking is actually pretty easy with him. I trully feel like he is more of a jungler than a support
I love taric and main him, but the new season hasn’t been very nice to my boy. The armor of knights vow is removed making me less tanky when rushing that item,ziki doesn’t slow enemy’s around you when you cast your ult, and the support mythic doesn’t suit taric’s play style. That leave me rushing ardent censer and be a shield/heal bot every game, then why would I play taric if lulu, Jenna, soraka and nami can do my job hundred times better?
As a pretty confident Taric player, I find that rushing a tear and building Shurelia's Battlesong pretty much take cares of my mana issues. His early game is definitely different than the majority of supports, and can be super punishing if you don't manage his resources correctly. His power spike isn't until level 4, and in most lane matchups you have to play him reactively rather than proactively/aggressively, but god is he rewarding as hell to play once you find the rhythm.
The biggest issue I always had when picking Taric in the new season is this; why am I picking a champion that excels most 30 minutes, when the game is over at 22-25 minutes. It's this painful first 15 that makes him abysmal to pick early, because you can't lane against a Karma, Janna, or Lulu, mixed with, if you have the space to pick your support late, why not pick to counter the enemy team comp more reliably, with say a Maokai, Rell or Galio support, or a Leona Nautilus, Alistar
I absolutely love Taric, I play him on toplane and I'm having a blast every time. I just love the fact that he's a support with a fighter passive, which makes him really versatile and fun to experiment with. And yes, he is quite team dependent, but the fact that you can combine his abilities with others champions can always create interesting and unexpected combos and strategies.
I've won multiple clean up 3v1's with Taric, he's insane right now and I absolutely love him
Taric's a lot of fun in ARAM! But part of that is that everyone is in range for your abilities. :'D
I feel like the problem of the high mana costs is the biggest one. You can only use a few q's before running out of mana, making him useless for the rest of the fight. And the heals aren't that strong either so it's better to use other enchanters with stronger long term healing / shielding
Also the whole combination between a support and a tank is really problematic because tanks usually don't have a lot of mana and can't spam their abilities while enchanters often relies on spamming their abilities in teamfights so it's create this really awfull position where you shine spamming your abilites but can't because of your low mana pool

i love the combination of tank and enchanter but the high problem its mana, if taric could spam the q more than 2 times he will be decent sup, cause when i get a suficient mana (win the line and i can buy mana) he become so powerfull more when are a tank in the suport lane cause he cant kill the adc. and its fun but there no runes or objet that fix the bigest problem in him

I too missed his old kit. I still main him, but I loved being a gem-clad warrior.
Personally I disagree. Tarek does not rely on his team to work with him, he makes them work with him. Your tank takes a batting gauge. Throw your shield on him. Throw your stun on him now It was bait. Your ADC gets caught out, same routine. You want the team to push with your ultimate, pop. Your ultimate hit your son and leave the charge yourself and they'll pick up on what's happening. I'm sure there's a dead zone at the mid levels of play, but in my experience, tarek needs a team less than any other champion because he can turn dumb disorganized play into teamwork at a moment's notice.
As someone who's played back when summoner spells were inserts for your damn boots and remembers the original Taric and mained him, I miss my fabulous boy. My fav bot lane combo was Taric and Graves.

I used to play him a lot last season but I can 100% agree this season's items really screwed him over. Locket is one of the best items for him to keep your team alive long enough for your ult to go down but to build it the dreadful mana issue is worse than ever, with most mana items locked into the mage class. That said, he is still so fun to play because his passive and Q baits so many people in, then they wonder why people aren't dying xD Level 2 all-ins aren't bad (stun to engage, spammable Q and passive for heals and surprising damage) but you get punished REAL hard if you miss the stun and they have a ranged support, leading to some miserable laning phases. Ultimately he really is as good as the team, which is the biggest downside. Not coordinating all-ins leads to nonstop pinging on your ult after some guys dash in 2v5 and get out of range of bastion and they wonder why you didn't flash-protobelt-galeforce your way to them
I play Taric all the time and completely shit on enemy teams quite often. Lots of games they have almost no chance of killing me unless I get caught warding alone. I love Taric for the tower dives, spam heals, and pursuit stuns.
Im glad someones talking about my main. Tarics mana regen is pretty descent so you cant fight all the time but you aren't always oom. Also Prescence of Mind and Glacial Shroud are great on him. Pick up Glacial early and sit on it. His passive damage is good. and he destroys divers and assassins even without his ult. the delay on his E can actually work in your favor for hard engages, if you see the engage coming you can cast it so it still goes off even when you are CC'd. Just dont use his E for Engage, only for Peel. I love this champ because he prevents the flashy champions from getting their snowball kills.
Another is his E. It's really cool that you can cast from Taric and his link but it's done in the most absurd way :
The angle at which the E is sent from Taric is defined by the direction you are aiming with your mouse. On the linked champion the angle relative to the character model is conserved, so it aims in a completely different direction.
Basic examples (because my description isn't super clear) : if you both face the same direction, both dazzle go in the same direction. If you face opposite direction then dazzle will go in opposite direction.
This means that if I want to use dazzle from my link to protect him from a jungler gank (because he didn'z fall back and I'm already closer to tower, or because they target adc first) : 1. I must not aim at the jungler directly, 2. I must not aim in the direction from my adc to ennemy (imagine I'm adc, where do I aim ?) 3. I must instead look at the direction my adc is running, determine the direction of jungler relative to their run, look at the direction I'm running, determine that same direction relative to my run, aim and release e.
Worse yet imagine a bursty champion that moves around a whole lot like an irelia, a samira or something. They run into a fight, they could use dazzle. How to predict what orientation they'll have when they spinning around like a maniac ?
It's very convoluted and stupid, the only other aspect I can think of where the orientation of a character matters is shaco's passive, but at least there's only one orientation to control and it's for bonus damage not for the whole move to work at all.
Two better alternatives :
- Same world direction : Instead of the game replicating the angle relative to Taric's orientation onto the link, the game simply copies the game direction. This would therefore imply that both dazzly always face in the same direction and are parallel. So in that scenario, the jungler is on the left of my adc, let me aim to the left.
- Same world target : When you aim at a spot with any linear move, the game deduces the direction from you towards the coordinate you are pointing at, the target. Have it be that the target is the same for both shots. So my shot is from me towards the target and my links shot is from them towards the target. So in that scenario : I want to hit the jungler, let me put my mouse on the jungler. A problem with that is that it would make it impossible to use dazzle for your link to hit someone that isn't on your screen and require large mouse movements just to aim, so not a fan but still possible.
I get that it's cool when two opposite direction shots land in a crazy unforeseen way but either something really cool happens out of dumb luck or the e becomes unusable unless by taric directly.
This is compounded by the fact that Taric's passive is instrumental in reducing cool down and making his set work. While using dazzle through your link you don't have the opportunity to use bravado, but it's worth it if you can land a useful shot for your link. But it's impossible to correctly aim the shot coming from your link. So almost never worth it

Rod of Ages used to fix all of his problems in one spot before season 11.
Even as a support it was an excellent first or second pick. Tanking gave mana, that mana supplied your kit, including heals, meaning more hp can be lost for mana.
1: change weapon to a Morningstar with mid rang
2 : q heal range increases with stacks
3 : w fine but enable the tethered to brock passive " nice damage boost "
4 : e let him throw it viktor style but stays the same for his w cast " like toss a projectile that stuns in a direction upon landing
5 : r 1 sec delay is enough for 2 sec ult
finally cut the cost for double the numbers it wont work like that
A friend of mine use to one trick taric and he was so pissed about the rework he never played him again after
My brother and I play Taric bot exclusively with Lissandra, your engage is insane and your abilities with your ults are enough to lockdown or out-sustain anything in most fights. Secret nasty!
It took me a little bit but I got used to the new Taric and he's one of my main supports. He requires careful resource management and timing, but when you pull of a successful ultimate that saves your team while the enemy team falters and dies it's worth it. Recently found that when timed right, his ult can nullify Neeko's ultimate which can get bonkers if she's fed. Stopping all that damage was so gratifying.
There is this item in Wild Rift, and each time i look at it, i think it's just perfect for Taric, even tho creating a must have items for champions to make them viable is not a good practice. Anyway, it's called Fimbulwinter, it's a tank Tear item, which gives 10 Ability Haste, 350 Health and 1200 Mana. It's Awe effect grants 1% of max Mana as Ability Haste and refunds 15% of mana spent. It's other effect, Frozen Colossus, grants you a shield (150+5% of current mana per nearby enemy champion, 15s cooldown) when you immobilize a target (can only be triggerend when you have nore that 20% of Mana). It's not upgraded version is Winter Approach, it has same Awe effect. Charges gained when you use mana, with basic attacks on-hit and when you take damage from enemy champions, turrets and epic monsters. I think item is so great to complement Taric and his needs in a game. Maybe Taric mains can ask Riot to add this item to main game, ofc it's probably need some balancing to be on level with Manamune and Seraph's Embrace

I played taric quite a bit during season 6-8 (never played old Taric) and got mastery 6, I think Taric would see way more play if Riot just gave him some quality of life changes like lower mana costs or being able to walk through units when you cast e, he's been in a pretty bad place for a while so I think he could use some buffs :p
I think there's one MAJOR point missed here, and it's really important to taric as a whole as well, especially when playing from behind.
Choke points:
If the enemy team is on Baron / Dragon, it's REALLY easy for taric to punish it, as they either have to counter-engage, or try to peel out, and give away a free dragon/baron. They can't counter-engage if you have ulti starting in the seconds that you walk up, so they get catch 22'd, and normally lose the teamfight, and the dragon/baron, even when your team plays from behind.
He's the comeback king imo, single ultimates often take losing games and turn them around, it's not uncommon for my games to start on the backfoot and turn around once we start contesting objectives and getting into actual teamfights.
He's just underplayed, people aren't aware of HOW MUCH he can actually heal in a pinch.
In lane, his mana is indeed a major issue, but if you just make him a hard engager, it kind of goes away. You fight to the death, burn all your mana, and then it refills when you back after they're both dead. His low level all-in potential is ridiculous.
Yow his Q is getting a mana cost reduction on patch 11.9
A lot of what you said is fairly true. Smart Tarics know when to stack Q. Also, I might add, Taric is *the* support to play with melee carries.
Taric is the ty of champion that works only if you duo with someone like Zilean or Ashe.
If his passive gave him mana back he would be 25% less trashy

P : after casting a spell taric next attack deals bonus magic dmg - AP, ARMOR ratios and 10% targets armor which the target is losing for 5 seconds this stacks 3 times.
P: taric gains 20% ap as armor
Q: heal an allied unit. AP + %missing health. grant the target bonus movement speed for 5 seconds and % of your armor and AP.
W:shield yourself for 5 seconds. ap,%max hp, granting you immunity to slows and roots while the shield is holding. when destroyed/expired the shield explodes dealing dmg to enemies around you.
the shield is also applied to other allies at 30-50% effectivness but its just a shield.
E: no changes
R:
P: taric deals bonus magic dmg on hit - %armor, AP. his abilities cost 30/40/50% less
A:for next 10 seconds gain 100 ability haste and double cost reductions from passive
Gave him chance now that he was free to play and I had so much fun. Not gonna main him, but he's a solid pocket pick in the right circumstance and that ultimate is tricky but such a major fight changer when used right.
I've been a taric main since before the rework. Personally, I like playing him solo que because you can turn teamate misplays into good fights/engages.
Yes he's squishy unless your adc gets really ahead, but he also has great distance on his stun (if used on a teammate, especially with a dash). I think the noevlty value is relevent as well, he's never banned and most people never play against him. This means if you're a main, you get consistent picks for a one-trick and people are slightly caught off-guard by what he can do in the right hands.
He has decent sustain early with Q, and can dish out decent damage in all ins. One negative is that depending on the match up, flash is almost critical to engage in bot. But as long as you turn that into double-kills, it's a worthy use imo. If you view your ult as a good diving tool early game, and a follow up engage late game as opposed to a last ditch "save me", that works better as well.
I can see why people don't play him, infact I like it that way because I he goes unoticed in bans and early game, which works great for me. It's also worth mentioning that when he's recently been buffed, and counters most of the top tier supports at the moment.
I wanna see another taric rework...you are right, his ult is so strong, that the rest of his kit is garbage feeling. Too easy to bait put Taric ult with one enemy ult...then he is worthless against delayed engage.
I wish they made him feel more like a paladin...idk how. Or maybe give us a new support...something new feeling

As a trick main i feel like most people are sleeping on the idea of building a zyonas hourglass. Its wierd but its kinda awesome because its armor, alittle ability power and cool down reduction and the stop watch synergies really well with his ult. Taric ult and then immediately stop watch. Stop watch wears off right before your ult hits. I've baited whole enemy team engages on me with this and then my team comes in to clean up
Started playing him today after i learned he got buffed. Im loving it, hes a beast
I mained taric like for 1 month my vision on taric is : It has a very good early game if you can manage mana well . It is a sustain champ but it is very good in early trades with his passive . In midgame taric just shines with a fed teammember or splutting with a not fed teammember . Ussually i prefer doing tf in mid game ( if your team not inted hard ) even tough like 1 to 2 k lead that enemy have. you can win fight with proper ult. In late only thing that you can do is giftin your team a good ult and protect adc as backline enchanter. Since everyone is full build you better stay back and let an other tank handle the frontline . You can 1 vs 1 almost frraking every champ btw i am not kiding sibce you have mana you can even 1 vs 1 a yasuo mid game if you play good. Dont try to 1 vs 1 ranged champs they will just kite u . You can 1 vs 1 mlee champs gl
Honestly to play Support Taric good, you need to get level 2 first, shield enchanter ability poke to out mana manage them, make sure you have enough mana to get 2 Q spams at least in early game because Bravado does great dmg actually, and have the wave pushed for second back because you'll want to buy Mobis and start finding places to roam if drag isnt a minute or less up. You can surprise the enemy jgler with the tight timing and still make it back to pit after winning the roam which you almost will if your teammates cooperates and isnt an ape.
Lastly, I just want to note that most of these complaints stem from the fact primarily that he is bad because he is team reliant only is a bad excuse for the learning curve. He has a different winning plan for lane and team fight and in general is different than other supports. You can out manage other supports to survive or win laning to the point you can start roaming and making your opponent fear your presence. There is so much pressure you can exert from playing correctly that will win you easy games, but you have to be willing to learn it rather than ask for number changes or reworks. He's a fine support with his weaknesses because they're made up with his incredible strengths
There was a taric jg cheese where he would have a really surprising clear but only when blue buff was up he would immediately have to deal with the mana cost when he didn't have if his mana pool or regen was upped or cost reduce it could make him more bearable to play
