Erlinda!! You were incredible and I’m so impressed with the professional and moral integrity you displayed here with respect to the law in this matter!! So refreshing!
And boy have the criminal justice systems of this country been doing a terrible job of representing our Justice System. It's an embarrassment to every citizen of the country.
Erlinda Johnson is a representation of what a criminal prosecutor should be, strong, forceful, polite, honest, just, and full of integrity. Kari Morrisey could learn a great deal from her (as could all present and future attorneys. I applaud her for doing what was right and for taking a stand and not allowing herself to be coerced into something she didn't agree with.
Even before the final day of the trial, it was obvious to just about everyone that Ms. Johnson was working with an incompetent Special Prosecutor. Kudos to Ms. Johnson for everything she did in the name of justice in this trial.
This is such a great interview. I was interested in hearing Erlinda speak on her behalf. Your ethics and self integrity are a wonderful example of what we would expect from an attorney. Every one deserves a fair trial.
The lead investigator Detective Hancock also was involved in the decision to separately file the additional new evidence and they decided to not investigate Seth Kenny and find out where the live ammo came from. The whole prosecution and law enforcement were biased and incompetent and unethical.
7:14 Keri Morrisey lies the whole time during that hearing on the motion to dismiss. Loved Erlinda Johnson, I hate she felt she had to resign, but she did the right thing and stood on her principles!!! ❤
I have a lot of respect for this Special Prosecutor❤❤❤she is honest and transparent. All evidence has to be given to the defence .... period. Alec Baldwin deserved a fair trial🎉
Erlinda Ocampo Jones - the special prosecutor who shows that you can show that you have skills as an amazing prosecutor, get the case dismissed with prejudice, and still come out looking like you're the ethical boss of the courtroom. And the judge too! Shows that it is possible to be fair and impartial without being political or just simping for the prosecution. These two are what our system looks like when it's working, when we've had SO MANY high profile cases lately going terribly wrong in unprecedented ways. KM on the other hand, should be ashamed of how she prosecuted this. When she took the stand it was all excuses and finger-pointing about why there were so many failures to disclose. No excuses! It's been YEARS!!! Just disclose it!
@Tcheera, She was on the stand for one reason. She was trying to save her own a**. She knew what the lead investigator, crime scene tech, and herself had done. She just didn't plan on getting caught. She had to try to save her job, and she should be fired by now. She didn't just lose a high-profile case. She withheld evidence at every turn. During Hannah's trial, she stated to the entire courtroom that "no one else was responsible for this shooting, but Hannah and she needed to be punished for her actions." If that was the case, then these charges never should have been filed against Alec. This "prosecutor," if that's what you want to call her, needs to be fired and lose her license to practice law. I think she's proven enough between the two cases from "Rust" that she can't be an honest, unbiased attorney, much less a prosecutor.
She didn't make the decision to charge him. She was brought on as a late replacement to assist Kari Morrissey and she believed in the case. I guess you have to believe in the case to do the job. I personally said from the start that the prosecution was without merit but I understand that others see it differently.
Finally, someone gets it right. This case was spurious to begin with. Alex Baldwin never set out to kill anyone, and as the executive producer of the movie, he had far more on his plate than that addicted "gunsmith." The prosecutor also contributed to the dismissal of this case.
Someone got it right but you got it wrong. Nobody ever claimed Baldwin set out to kill anyone. That’s why it was a manslaughter charge. Also, the fact that he was a producer wasn’t relevant. The defense was granted a motion that his status as a producer could not be used against him as evidence in this case. So you don’t know what you’re talking about
This is not accurate. It was dismissed because of the mishandling by one the prosecutors, and nothing to do with Alec's guilt or innocence. If the relevant evidence had made to trial I believe he would have been found guilty, he created an unsafe work environment and was negligent.
@georgefromdownthehall3334 Thanks for the correction. In my view, this case was nothing more than a witch hunt in the first place. As to my assertion that he was a producer not being held "against" him is exactly the point I am making. Do you recall what was happening during the time that he was busy trying to make that movie?, and there was all kinds of things he had to take care of himself, not least do the jobs of so called qualified people who were also demanding payment for "better" working conditions? If you lose control of your car due to no fault of your own, and you kill someone, would you not also plead not guilty?
@bradp2209 Quite right, I would be, but then I am totally responsible for the upkeep of my vehicle as required by law. In the case of Baldwin, he had people who were apparently qualified to do specific jobs, and for better or worse, he trusted them to do their jobs, which in this case was a terrible mistake.
Erlinda you are exactly what justice is about. Listening to you gave me goosebumps. Your integrity oozes from you. Such a shame the YSL prosecutors and Karen Reids prosecutors didnt have half your integrity❤❤❤❤
I like her too. I liked when she said it was the jury that has to determine if the defendant is guilty or innocent. She knows the law and honor her oath to protect the law.
OK, the prosecution fxxxed it up. But, prior to this, I asked myself, why ist Baldwin beeing charged? Whose job is it to maintain props? How does a live cartridge get to the props? Shouldn't a producer assume that the people he pays will make sure everything is ok? Then I recommend that all producers check everything that could be needed 24/7 during filming, including power cables, headlights, vehicles, knives, scissors, ....... right up to the material of costumes, so that no one suffers a fatal allergic shock. For example, if an actor driving a car during filming runs over someone because the brakes are broken, will the actor be charged? Or the producer because he stupidly relied on his team? Or only if the actor is identical to the producer?
I always liked this prosecutor and thought she was moral, competent and very good, I did wish Alec good luck however, it was just a tragic accident with failure at levels before him.. its horrible
If I understand Erlinda Johnson correctly Kari Morrisey lied under oath in court about Erlinda‘s motives to resign front the prosecution team. She died that with the purpose to prevent a dismissal of the case. Sounds like perjury to me which should get her disbarred and criminally prosecuted or is there something I am missing here?
She upheld her ethics and moral obligation even though she believed Alec Baldwin was guilty. Amazing! And strong lady, hope she gets the other girls job
If by "the other girl" you mean Special Prosecutor Morrissey, there is no job in play. Both Morrissey and Johnson were _Special_ Prosecutors, not State prosecutors. That means that both women (who have active careers as defense attorneys) were brought in as 'outsiders', to prosecute this case on behalf of the State. The case is over, so they can each return to their own, respective law practice.
You gotta choose your words correctly. She didn't say she thought he was guilty. She said she believed there was recklessness / negligence on set and her job was to present the evidence and whether guilty or not it's the jury's job to decide. If guilty fine if not fine. Those were her words more or less.
As an actor he's in character, not Alec Baldwin. He plays a renegade outlaw in the 1800s. Would a renegade outlaw check his gun to make sure he doesn't hurt anyone? He should have never been charged.
It was a manipulative interpretation. Ms. Johnson didn't see the point in having a public hearing bc the violation occurred and there should be a dismissal. Morrissey just picked out part of the overall issue and used that small thing of Ms Johnson saying something like there's no need for a hearing just dismiss based on the violation instead of saying the full truth that Ms. Johnson understood the severity of the violation and agreed with the remedy of dismissal.
If they withdrew the charges rather than pushing for the defense to file the motion, couldn't the charges be refiled? It wouldn't have been dismissed with prejudice.
You NEVER see a DA file to dismiss after a jury has been selected. Never. That is the defense'job. "Oh. Well I guess we screwed up, your honor and move to dismiss the case. Sorry for the inconveniences." Yeah, I don't think so.

What! She resigned becasue lead prosecutor did not want to dismiss and she did not even join the prosecution until April long after this evidence was buried.
@MrBetc you missed the point totally. She resigned before the judge dismissed the case because she wanted it to be dismissed and the other prosecutor wanted to fight against it.
